• Portege 7010CT - no hard drive recognized

  Hi all

  I have a Portege 7010CT, I want to use to drive my modeltrain, because it has a RS-232 connection. The problem is however it doesnot recognize the hard drive more. I bought a new one that works fine in another laptop but when I put it in Portege said with the installation of Windows that no hard drive is detected.

  Looking in the Bios, it also says that no hard drive is configured. I can't however in the Bios to change this. East - auto detection? What can I do to make the Portege recognize the hard drive? Thanks for help.

  Hey, Willem.

  As far as I know this old notebook used hard drives with IDE interface. Normally, on all hard drives with this interface, you have a rider where you can switch between Master, Slave and Cable Select.

  I recommend you to check this. Set the switch to Master and try again.

  Since I am a student I can't afford a new laptop (unfortunately) so I have to use my old 7010... That's why I think a small update... a bigger HARD drive (used)... But I cannot find anywhere the maximum size HARD drive for the 7010 - everyone knows, or experience with the largest drives that small 4.3?

  Also - is it possible to change the CPU with a faster mobile P2?

  I put really t exactly know the limit of the capacity of the HARD drive used on Portege 7010but, I'm sure you can use hard drives up to 10 or even 20 GB with no problems. Unfortunately only service partner or a buyer of HARD drive have precise information on this subject. They are specialized for the hardware upgrade and jut, they can give you a guarantee that the HARD drive is recognized properly by the BIOS.

  With CPU is the problem because most of them cannot be changed at all.

• Portege 7010CT shows Toshiba logo then the screen goes black

  Help! When I turn on the Toshiba logo comes up then the screen goes black and I find myself with a cursor blinking in the upper left corner. Nothing seems to work, keyboard seems locked even though CTRL, ALT & DEL it restarts. Was working perfectly one day, so that the next. Any ideas?

  You can start the machine in safe mode? Which operating system you are using? Are you using it for a while or is this first boot after installation.

  Hmmmm... to be honest Portege is not portable for the games. Maybe for playing chess, but for some graphics intensive games is certainly bad laptop.

  I use Toshiba Portege M600 with windows Vista.
  When I reboot my lap top I get not all sounds... In the status bar system, the volume icon button is marked with X and when I thought it said that "no audio output device is installed.". I tried the option just like uninstall the audio driver and reinstall. When I checked in the device under his management, game and controller I get Realtek High definition audio driver with exclamation sign. When I tried to update the driver, it shows that "this device cannot start. (Code 10) ».

• Portege A600 Webcam software crashes when changing the settings with the sound muted

  I have a problem with XP Toshiba factory build for Portege A600 and Portege R600.
  If you try to change the sound properties of the Webcam using the Camera Assistant Software with the sound muted, the camera wizard app will hang & Windows fails to shut down or even stop. The only way to stop is pressed the power button until the machine stops.

  So far, the only solution I can come to is to increase the volume to zero rather than using the mute box. The problem is if you forget and mute rather than turning down and then try to change the sound properties, its "game over." In addition, it is not really satisfactory because politics is to keep the machines muted until the sound is required.

  This does not happen with the Vista Build, build it only XP.

  My guess is that this will not happen on any machine using the Chicony Webcam & software with the Realtek HD audio but I have not tried on machines enough yet to be sure. So far, I've recreated on two A600s and a R600. The machines are not defective and you can create the problem, "straight out of the box. Just do the following:
  (1) use the provided Toshiba product recovery DVD for restore factory Toshiba Windows XP SP2 version
  (2) once you have done the whole stuff, mute
  (3) open the Camera Assistant Software application & to select Properties
  4) click the audio settings tab

  That of all, suspended. The Camera Assistant Software version is 1.7.209.0807L which seems to be the last being available for download on the websites of Toshiba.

  Someone has encountered this or have any suggestions?

  I n t have a Portege but U400 with pre-installed and integrated webcam Win XP.
  I installed a clean Win XP and then upgraded the XP to the last State and installed all the drivers available from the Toshiba page and possible.

  I followed the steps in your message and I have to say that I didn t notice strange questions, software webcam still works correctly

  I put t know what could be the problem, but I recommend that you check the audio driver to update maybe you can use the Realtek page
  Also, check if the BIOS has been updated to the current state and if your Windows XP is up to date.

  My trusty M100 has developed a serious boot problem. It will not run games just the bios the second (on/standby) LED flashes orange and throw the fan.   Nice work you have tested other RAM modules in your laptop Portege because that would be my first suggestion other testing modules RAM :)

  In my opinion it s a serious as the motherboard or the CPU but without diagnosis hardware malfunction special tools it of not possible to say more on this subject in particular on this virtual path. If you need to contact an authorized service provider and ask for help. The guys have good diagnostic tools and can help you get rid of this.

• Portege L19 Z30 - A - cannot sync the iPhone using iTunes

  We bought 2 of these porteges. Previously, we used older models.

  • You should see the generic 'apple iPhone '.
  • Right-click on this device
  • Click on update driver software
  • Select search automatically
  • It should take a few minutes, it you disconnect/reconnect etc.

  Tom's right. If you want to use the 64-bit operating system, you must do clean install operating system. All drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities must be installed Additionally one by one.
  If you need assistance with installing Win7 let us know.

  I put t know for what purposes do you use your laptop and what applications are important for your daily work, but, in general, I don t think you will have problems using 64 bit OS. Please keep in mind that all additional software is 64-bit capable and everything will be OK.

  As far as I know laptop user doesn't have the influence of the use of video memory and it runs automatically. It is unclear to me that you can change these settings and set how much RAM can be used for video operations.

  Anyway, Portege R700 is nice for laptop with sufficient power for daily use and also for use with standard applications. I don t think you ve bought this laptop for games.

• Re: Question about the CD/DVD player for Portege M400

  I have a Portege M100 - and the CD-ROM drive does not work.

  Whenever I put a disc in I can just hear the motor turn the disc, but the computer is not picking up the drive. Device Manager picks up flawless.

  It doesn't seem to be any firmware for this sorting (or am I wrong).

  I've seen a DVD player for a M400 on ebay and I was wondering if that would take on my M100.

  Before buying it, I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be compatible. It seems to be OK size wise, but I was wondering if my Portege M100 XP would be able to use it.

  Unfortunately I n t have this expensive laptop Portege but in the past I ve made some experiments with the extremely slow laptop models and I can say with certainty that the right OS configuration can help a lot.
