3Par QLogic zoning heterogeneous environment

Hello

I have a 3PAR F200 connected to two switches QLogic 5800 CF. I have 3 servers ESX (4.0 Update 1) with redundant of QLogic and a single Windows 2008 R2 Server with of redundant QLogic connected to the 5800's. I read the Guides implementation of 3PAR and was hoping someone who is familiar with this configuration could look both attachments and tell me if I've zoned it correctly, I think I have.

I put the host type of character for the host esx generic 6-legacy.

I put the host type of character for the Windows Server in 1 credits.

I'm following vmware article 1008113 to strangle the queue depth.

Thank you.

Robert

Look just to me - you do a zoning to initiator target/single, which is usually the right thing to do for insulation.

  • Quick way to select an article from a heterogeneous environment

    Hello

Sorry for what may seem like a simple question but I'm creating a selection of a person in a photo using CS5 Extended. The background of the picture is not uniform and is neither the person (so the magic wand tool does not work). Other the catch is I have to do this same process for about 90 photos and so need a quick way to do this (creating an outline using the pen tool, and then do a selection works very well but it is far too labor).

Thanks in advance to a memory segment.

Have you tried the quick selection tool yet?

  • OAM and MS integration Active Directory on non-Windows Server environment

I begin by saying that I'm dealing with a heterogeneous environment here where several systems are managed by different management levels. Our Oracle systems chose to go all * nix (Solaris Oracle and Red Hat Linux) and so we do not have a single Windows Server in our Oracle services and would really like to keep it this way that we prefer to keep a uniform platform in all of our Oracle servers.  However, the side our Department Office has chosen to use Microsoft Active Directory, and now we want to integrate and perform authentication against it for our protected sites OAM.  We are in the initial phase of installation, but we didn't want to implement a critical server like OAM on the Windows platform and focus rather OAM running on a Red Hat Linux server to Active Directory.  We will also use OID as run us portal but do not want to use it as our authority for Oracle products authentication (local policy is that Active Directory is the authority of the credential is valid on the site as we head towards the true Single Sign On our desktop and web applications).  I have a few questions.

    1. it is possible using native or to run the version of Windows of OAM?
    2. If you must run OAM on Windows to use AD for authentication, is it possible to install the Windows of OAM version as kind of an interface for our main server of OAM running under Red Hat Linux to make the AD Auth?
    3. can it be done using some kind of interface such as Oracle Virtual Directory in interface with the interface LDAP to Active Directory MS?

    Hi David,

    Answers online

    1. it is possible using native or to run the version of Windows of OAM?
You can run all servers in OAM on * nix and just point to AD as a source of data on the machine: port AD running on OAM. There is no need for the components of the OAM on Windows.

    2. If you must run OAM on Windows to use AD for authentication, is it possible to install the Windows of OAM version as kind of an interface for our main server of OAM running under Red Hat Linux to make the AD Auth
As above, this is not necessary.

    3. can it be done using some kind of interface such as Oracle Virtual Directory in interface with the interface LDAP to Active Directory MS?
Yes, it is quite possible. Even if it is not necessary in your situation, it provides more flexibility front the user store with OVD, for example when the addition/change of name of Windows domains, or by specifying some branches for users and so on.

  • Exadata - databases how?

    Hi members,

Exadata has amazing hardware specifications for eg - even the smallest config - Exadata X 3-2 c RAC has:

Storage servers 3 DB 2 with very large storage, pci cards, faster servers infiband network etc...

    Now my question...

    (1) if these materials are used to only run a DB (which can actually be requiring a high-end configuration)?

    (2) what is the real meaning of 2 DB servers? You can use it to implement two node RAC [Server assuming 1 DB for a single node] system?

    (3) these DB servers can are accessible individually to run in a heterogeneous environment of the databases such as the use of 1 DB for 1 database server...

Or is it just a plain pre-configured, "no changes could be made" system?

I'm just a beginner so please help me to clarify my doubts...?

    Hello user12054962,

    (1) if these materials are used to only run a DB (which can actually be requiring a high-end configuration)

A quarter rack gives you two database servers.  You can run a single database, or several, depending on your choice.  The main factor governing the maximum shadow of databases is generally the amount of memory on the servers, so I wouldn't say thousands of databases running on a single server.

    (2) what is the real meaning of 2 DB servers? You can use it to implement two node RAC [Server assuming 1 DB for a single node] system?

You get two physical servers that are running the Oracle database software.  You can indeed set a node two RAC system, and this is the most common configuration.

    (3) these DB servers can are accessible individually to run in a heterogeneous environment of the databases such as the use of 1 DB for 1 database server...

Altogether.  Or just run several databases on your two-node RAC system.

Oracle RAC documentation has more information on the differences between the servers, clusters, instances and databases.

  • Which model # HBA Qlogic card for my ESX 3.5 environment

Is - this true only Qlogic are supported and if so what model should I look for in buying?

I want to add this adapter HBA to a HP DL380 G5.

    Hello

No, this is not true. VMware ESX supports many different HBA providers.

Something like this http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/pciehbaql/index.html, I have used it before on the DL380 G5.

You can visit this link and do a search on the different supported HBA http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?q=VMware%20ESX%203.5%20HBA%20compatibility&btnG=Google%20Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

  • Heterogeneous Connectivity environment layout

    Hai everybody,

I am very new to "ORACLE heterogeneous connectivity"...
and this is my senario... I need to connect to oracle with microsoft access (and update of 5 tables more regularly)...
    so...

What are the pre-reqsites needed to make this connectivity...
What are the drivers/softwarz, supposed to install to achieve my goal...

    Datebase:11 g 1
    OS: wisdows XP

and if you can, please give me a better link, from a beginner / give me a brief description...

    Kind regards
    JP@valapad

    Hi JP,
    I'm glad it's working now.
    To answer your questions-

    1. access the column names are case sensitive must delimit them by double quotes in a select statement to access in this case, otherwise they are converted to upper case.
So try to select it as -

    Select 'name' of dep_mst@db_link;

    2. can I update oracle ms access tables?
Yes, DG4ODBC supports updated statements, so it should work for access also. The only restriction is that DG4ODBC cannot be used in distributed transactions, is that you can not update Oracle and Access in the same statement. There must be a validation between the 2 updates.
You can not use the gateway to update access Oracle.

    3 can you in brief/link on hs agents ("PROGRAM = " @listener.ora file (sucha as dg4odbc) "")
Different gateways have a different name for the agent of hs created for the gateway. For example, Database Gateway for SQL * Server uses (program = dg4msql) and DG4Sybase uses (program = dg4sybs).
Hs agent is the software that manages the communication between the Oracle database and non-Oracle database.
HS heterogeneous services which is the RDBMS software layer that manages communications outside the database.

  • QLogic WWN issue

All the Qlogic hba 2464 we have their ports 21 00 and 21 01

    IE: FF 21 00 00 44, 22 B5 2nd port 0 and 21 01 00 44 FF 22 B5 2 port 1

But we had recently a 2464 where wwn looks like:

    FF 21 00 00 44, 22 2 B5 and FF 21 00 00 44, 22 B5 2F.  Then, instead of the 21 00 and 21 01, only the last hexadecimal value is changed.  I know that it's different wwn. But is that normal or what?

    Hey BeckhamK

I have an environment with all of QLogic and, sometimes, the last Hex values are changed and sometimes the second series of HEX are different on the same HBA. As long as it is zoned properly I wouldn't worry abou little.

    Take care

  • FCoE directly connect to VNX5300 with no switch zoning

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this unit or a similar facility. I find no decent documentation to help us decide if it is a legitimate set upward for a production of about 16 servers 3 chassis environment. Our expert Cisco has ever put up a UCS environment with a direct connection to the San via FCoE and intuitively is against it, as we do not expect to use a switch to zoning.  Is there a real risk in the present? It will support in the future?

    Hi Henry,.

If you look at the following document:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/switches/Datacenter/MDS9000/interoperability/matrix/Matrix8.html

See point number 3, the direct model to support tethering still requires a SDM or N5k upstream to provide this information.

  • Data store space used not maching between VMWare and 3PAR

    Hello world

I have a strange behavior between our environment VMWare and 3PAR storage system.

I checked each data store of our cluster and for each of them, the space used in vSphere Client does not match the size of the user 'used' their volume associated with 3PAR.  The value displayed in VMware is higher.

For example, our data store named DS03 has space around 1 TB in VMWare.  And when I checked in the Console of 3PAR, I see that the volume created for this data store has a size of the user 'used' 722 GB.

While doing some research, I came across this post: ability to store data about the free space is not the same thing in VMware and 3PAR

But the problem I encounter is quiet different. It's the opposite. I do not understand why the displayed value is higher in VMWare...  We are also running vSphere Server version 5.1.0

    Any advice? Ideas?

    Thank you very much.

It's the ASIC 3PAR inline zero detection function stripping zeros of incoming data until they land on the disc. Www.3parug.com try this happens a lot.

  • SAN zoning, masking and compliance

How should they be fabric SAN zoning and masking be addressed, if respect for standards such as HIPAA, SOX, FISMA is in sight?

Which of these questions are involved?

1 area and mask ESXi hosts that are within the scope of compliance so that ESXi hosts that are not in the scope are in separate areas?

    2. use the more granular and more stringent zoning and masking in general, to demonstrate higher standards if the infrastructure design is audited, so that each ESXI host has its own area or each cluster of ESXi has its own area, even within the scope of the compliance area?

How should I think about zoning and masking from a compliance point of view?

    Thank you!

    Hello

If you encrypt the data within the VM, then separate data stores are not really necessary, however, you can use separate storage of data for HIPAA data just to keep things simpler for audits. If it was me, I would like to keep them separated, it will be much easier compliance checks and remove non - HIPAA VMs to a scope of the audit. In HyTrust I would implement a HIPAA tag on the virtual machine, the virtual networks in use, and data warehouses. This way I can have a clean audit.

From a technical point of view, it really depends on when you encrypt your HIPAA data. Practically speaking, HIPAA, it's all about the audit. Facilitate the audit, but don't waste any resources for this purpose calculation can be shared (you need maybe disable the GST or get the latest patches GST however.)

  • Zoning properly esxi host

    Hello

I'm new to CF. I have an esxi host, I need to create a zone for on my FC switch. When I look in vSphere, I see two addresses for my QLogic HBA. It shows 20:00:00:26: ff: xx:xx:22:01 21:00:00:26: ff: xx:xx:22:01.

I go to my FC switch to create an alias. Then, I add the wwn as a member. If I expand WWN and one from above, there a sign next to him, if I ignore + the + and add it like this, as well the added 21:00 and 20:00. However, if I develop the + and forest down in it and then add him, only one of these addresses gets added.

    No idea what is good?

It is not really specific to vmware, as each server I have shows the same thing, I just found this community more useful

Zoning, you would typically use the WWPN (World Wide Port name) that is assigned to a single port. With a single HBA port you have a WWN/WWNN (World Wide Node name) and a single WWPN, and for multi-port cards, you'll always have a unique WWN/WWNN but several WWPN, which can be used for different areas. (maybe World Wide Port name - Wikipedia help)

  • Ability to store data about the free space is not the same in VMware and 3PAR

    Hello

I'm running vSphere version 5.1.0 Server build 799731 and all my ESXi hosts running the same version: 5.1.0 799733.

I use 3PAR as a storage system for my VMware environment, but on some of my LUN created, I get a different number on what is currently available as a free space on the LUN.

On a LUN (LUN2_R5), vmware says that is has a capacity of 3 to and free pace on TB 2.08 (and it has been updated this morning).

But if I look in my view of 3PAR system, the same number of unit logic (LUN2_R5) has a size of 3 TB, but the size of the user used in 85% (2.6 TB of data).

If I do a look of VMware in the LUN, corresponds to the size on the LUN with the VMware view server, but I do not understand why 3PAR has another number.

    Can you help me?

    Kind regards

    Carl-Marius

Your storage system only "knows" what's on the VMFS file system. As soon as the space is allocated, it is marked as used from the point of view to the storage.

  • 3PAR for SRM application problem

    Hi guys,.

I met a problem when I tried to configure SRM with 3PAR, I use 2 series F400 to implement this.

This is the step I use to implement the SRM:

    1. configure the cluster environment 2 Vcenter

    2. prepare 1 volume of each 3PAR (1 expected as the volume of the source and the other as a target)

3 provision each volume for each cluster and then do as data store.

    4. the vm inside (Windows Server 2008 R2) installed in the source data store to install SRM, SQL and 3PAR SRA and then I download it to save and reproduce the data store target if necessary

5 remote installation copy the link between volumes. (This is when the problem occurred, the volume of the source which became the data with VM inside the store he is still active, but the 2nd volume intended to target remote copy became necessary to rescan and inactive)

    6. when I scan her and try to mount it back she invites me to put in shape once more to the VMFS format before it can be used, but it returns me an error, so I can't do it in a data store. The error state: "'HostDataStoreSystem.CreateVmfsDataStore' call failed for object ' datastoreSystem-401" on vCenter Server 'VCENTER02'. ' ""

Do you think that im missing some steps? or I did something wrong in the process? any answer is really appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Alvin

    (1) your diagram looks good.

  • Vmware cloud supports according to heterogeneous hypervisor?

    Hi all

Although I did the VCP410, I'm new on environment concluded. I've read about vmware cloud solution, but I have a few questions about cloude Vmware solution.

    1. Vmware cloud supports according to heterogeneous? like can I use Hyper-V, ESXi, hypervisor XEN with vmware cloud solution.
    2. Does VMware cloude is for only X 86 environment only?
    3. What happens if I use the HP - UX operating environment in VMware cloud?

Please throw some light on this.

    Kind regards

    Selim Desai

    VCP-410.

    (1) No, there is nothing in the wallet at the time that supports different hypervisors.  ESX is the hypervisor VMware of Lighthouse of choice for vCloud Director

    (2) not always.  Refer to the list of comments system of operations supported for both vCenter AND vCloud Director in the respective documentation

  • New Test for SAN environment

    Hello

I want to configure a test environment of SAN. Currently, I have 2 ESX host and switch San Q logic and a machine with 2 TB of storage in this regard. I just want to test if I could create a SAN storage and I both ESX hosts point to storage using the fiber cable. Is there an inexpensive way to do it? I know openfiler using iSCSI, but I want to test using fiber channel.

    Thank you

Download and test with the V6 DSS 4550 version and when you create a set of logical volumes CF the size block to be 512K and then go to the nursery to target CF in the graphical interface of the Configuration tab make sure to set the Qlogic FC HBA mode target since the GUI configuration > Fiber Channel then restart the system. You don't need a Swtich CF so you don't want that you can directly connect the FC HBA to each other. Hope this helps and thanks for watching Open-E!
