4400 and 5508

I have a 4402 and 5508 times code v7 running, are compatible if used as primary and secondary controllers?

Thank you

Jason

Yes, running the same code they are compatible according to the features you use.

For example OEAP is supported only on the 5508, so any OEAP would not connect to a x 440

See you soon,.

  • Problem with NAC and 5508 WLC OOB

I have a wlc 5508 to shared resources to a 6500 switch. Shared resources to the switch on eth0 and eth1 is also the CASE. The CAM is connected to an access port.

The SCS and CAM are on VLANS separated and the CASE has been added to the CAM without problem.

I followed the example of document for OOB WLAN (VLANs and mapping etc.), but I don't get all current identifications. The client is associated and the WLAN interface is the quarantine VLAN but it seems that the client can connect to the network without problem (may web access a server in-house to campus)

The customer indicated in customers wireless on the device of the cam page

If I either CASE interfaces close client connectivity is broken.

Once, randomly the own access connection Page appeared on the client (battery dead and waited for about an hour) but when I rebooted the CASE check it was she never came back.

I do not set up the SSO part, must it be filled or is it a valid test without it so far?

No idea where to start with this problem?

    Thank you

Yes, it looks like that somewhere, your 'placing in quarantine/no authenticated' vlan is filled to the full network, I do not see another explanation.

Try to configure the WLC for a new vlan quarantine which does not exist anywhere.

Then you should not have any access at all to anything whatsoever. Then try to leave this vlan gradually reach the heap and constantly test. You should find the point where the vlan 'flows '.

  • Failure and 5508 WLC WLC 5508-HA

We are a hospital that uses wireless communication / clinical applications through.

    We have a pair HA (AIR-CT5508-K9 / AIR-CT5508-HA-K9) 7.6.130.0 running.

It seems that it's 7 days something caused the original primary down and restart.  Primary current has been for almost a year and I want to it without rebooting without losing connectivity to APs customers.

Other devices Cisco active / standby, allow you to restart the secondary and then fail to him with no impact on users.

That's what I intend to do:

    (A) primary

Reboot peer   (B) - and wait for the system to return to the top.

    then

redundancy > force-passage to the -force just restarted WLC (B) to become a primary

    then

    Reboot peer  (Primary)

    Thoughts?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Bob

I used this version of the firmware before and in conditions ideal switch to the redundant unit should not have any impact to applications or not real-time.

Make sure that the TAC Gets a copy of the coredump file so that these can determine the real cause of the accident.

  • Should what version of the software for the controllers of 4400 and 5500 I use?

I saw a 7.0 and I think that the 7.1146 (is that an early release?) I have not upgraded in a year and would like to now since school is out. I also use the WCS system as well and did not know if there was an upgrade for that since last year.

I would go for the last 7.0.X.

I doubt it, because Dimension 4400 systems, have Dell motherboards and cases/chassis with exclusive features.

You may have problems to install an ATX motherboard in a Dell case.

The rear i/o Panel can align properly, then you might have to change that.

Both ATX case and motherboards do not have the same front wiring connectors that use 4400.

Dell uses an owner Ribbon to the front connector, while the standard ATX cases use Molex type connectors, you will need to find a way to redo the electric installation of the front panel and USB ports, because Dell has never published the details of the pinout.

It cost less likely to buy an ATX case retail, as well as a motherboard.

  • Discovery of a new WLC 5508 AP

the wireless controller is now configured, but we have an issue with WLAN that is using radius server authentication. Should we enroll the NEW WLC to the Radius server?
Yes, you must add your WLC in your RADIUS server with the same credentials that you to define the RADIUS on your WLC server. Link below may provide some guidance on required WLC configs. http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/WLAN-security/69730-EAP-auth-WLC.html HTH Rasika * Pls note all useful responses *.

  • Question about Design and wireless controller

    Hello world

Although I am not new to Cisco, I have some limited experience with Wireless in general.  I was hoping to get your help with the following:

We currently have a total of 8 1130AG, 4 on each floor.  They have been set up a few years ago, and now we are looking to update the design a bit.  Each access point has its own SSID and just provide internet access.  Looking at the configuration, I noticed that they are not configured to use the appropriate channels, the channels just randomly (9, 10, 11, instead of 1, 6, 11, etc.).  I noticed that when I roam from one access point to another, I'm losing on 4-8 pings until I re - establish connectivity again.

    Here are my questions:

    1. do I need a controller in order to use one SSID for the entire installation instead of the seprate 8 of those currently?

2 will be using controller providing a seamless transition when a customer places between AP?

    3. is it normal to lose connectivity around homelessness?

    4. can I reconfigure the current configuration to use one SSID and provide the best transition between the AP without the use of a controller?

    5. what controller that you would recommend?

We didn't need anything fancy, I am aware that I can activate multiple SSID VLAN, etc..  Just tried to keep the simplest possible, even reliable.

    Your entry is appreciate.

    Thank you

Need me a controller in order to to use one SSID for the entire installation instead of the seprate 8 of those currently?

Yes a controllers will solve the problem. any case of autonomous ap try to use the feature "unique guest SSID broadcast.

2 will be using controller providing a seamless transition when a customer places between AP?

It will not solve the problem, but it depends on the type of config goes for the consolidation of the AP? Layer 2 roaming? Layer 3 roaming? etc.

    3. is it normal to lose connectivity around homelessness?

No, you should same autonomous AP, check of overlapping channels

    4. can I reconfigure the current configuration to use one SSID and provide the best transition between the AP without the use of a controller?

    This can be a solution

    5. what controller that you would recommend?

It depends on what is your need and how much access point you have? 4400 and WISN are most commonly used.

  • migration of APs to the 5508 controller 4402

    Hello all,.

We have two controllers (4402 and 5508) to one of the site.

    Customers of services at present.

Both controllers have the same set of SSID but uses only a single group of AP.

What would be the best means to move APs on 4402 to 5508?

4402 services series years 1230 and 1240 AP. And looking at the note accompanying the WLC 7.6 code located on 5508,

years 1240 only are supported. So, we will need to get the replacement of the years 1230.

Someone suggested to go into every single years 1240 and change high availability for point to 5508 as primary and secondary 4402

(just in case the AP don't is not the controller) 5508 Once this is done, I can add the AP in the access point default of the group to broadcase the same SSID.

Is it enough for the task of migration?

Also, what is the requirement of default design for the number of necessary uplinks?

We have about 150 APs currently on 5508 that uses Group LAG of 1 4 uplinks.

Regarding the 4402, it is service 60 APs with 1 2 uplinks.

Thus with the APs on 4408 joining the 5508, 5508 serves about 210APs. 4 1 enough uplink is?

What is the best practice recommended requirement of uplink AP?  APs on 5508 are 3602 s and 3702 s.

    Thank you in advance.

P.S. BTW two controllers are part of the same mobility group

Someone suggested going into every single 1240s and change the high availability to point to 5508 as primary and 4402 as secondary.(just in case the AP does not join the 5508 controller.) Once that is done, I can add the AP into the default AP group to broadcase the same SSIDs.Is that enough for migration task?

Yes, it is sufficient. Unless 5508 have the same available on 4402 AP group name, all years 1240 migration goes into default-group & you may need to add to the good group of AP. It is advisable to have same AP group created between the controllers where AP configured for failover.

Don't forget 1240 last took in charge in 8.0.x code. In order to better plan as well before moving on to 8.1 replacement code (expect less than 1-2 months of time). See below for more details compatibility matrix

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html

Also what is the default design requirement for the number of uplinks needed? We have about 150 APs currently on 5508 which uses LAG group of 4 1G uplinks. Thus with APs on 4408 joining the 5508, 5508 will roughly serve 210APs. is 4 1G uplink sufficient?

4G LAG is more that sufficient for 250 AP, I'm sure that together the traffic will be much less of 4G if monitor you the traffic volume of the art on this trunk links.

What is the best practice recommended AP to uplink requirement? APs on 5508 are 3602s and 3702s.

I guess that all of these AP connected to 1 Gbps switch compatible PoE ports +. If your binding rising intercommutation is 1 Gbit/s, which would be the bottleneck, WLC to SW LAG before becoming a bottleneck.

What we also focused on was the fact that the 4400 series have been out for 5 or so years and are likely to be approaching EoL (End of Life) .

We expect the announcement of end of life of the 4400 and WISN.  New WISN expected unveiled by Q3 2011 based on the design of the 5508.
