5 essential things you must do after unpacking and setting up your HP computer

You just bought your HP computer and are ready to use for fun, but here are 5 things you should do immediately before you dive into pleasure

1. Update Windows and all it's drivers

Computers are made months before they are sold in fact sometimes. This means that during this time, Microsoft will release updates for the Windows operating system and other components of the computer can receive updates. These updates usually improve the use and the stability of the operating system and drivers.

See this link for more information about how to use Microsoft Windows Update, Windows Update

2. make recovery disks

The more frustrating it is when a computer crashes and cannot be recovered. Nobody is sure and no manufacturer designs the computer free of perfect crash. HP has taken measures including a recovery partition on hard disk for you to access and restore, if it is still in good condition. When using the recovery partition is not a recovery disk option can often still be used. HP does not include these disks with the computer when you buy it because it comes with a built in recovery partition. That does not mean that you can not and should not be your own. Make your own recovery disks, it's that you ensure that you have the tools to help you when things are just bad.

Check out these links for more information on how to create your own recovery discs using the tools that are already available for you on your HP computer.

3. to protect

Windows is the most popular operating system available on the market. As long as you're on top, you will be attacked. Viruses exist, many of them, more than any other operating system. However, there are many tools that exist which can help you to protect you while browsing the web. Install an anti-virus program and make sure that you browse the web safely.

NOTE: A virus protection program does not ensure that you will never get a virus. It's a protection mechanism, it may fail, but 99% of the time he will do you justice.

4. create a plan of energy saving

Energy costs are rising, electricity bills continue to climb. Your computer, if not configured properly, can be a huge energy consumption and a huge contribution to your electricity bill if allowed.

You must configure your Windows power settings to the configuration that suits you. There are plans that are already created by Microsoft, additional settings can however make the most ideal installation for you.

This Microsoft page has more information about the use of Windows power Plans. Change, create, or delete a power plan (scheme)

5 make your own

After you have configured your computer it will resemble all other computers out there. Change the theme to something that is more friendly. Set up the sounds to play the way you want. If you want to have a duck instead of bonk you quack, then you can do. Each person has their own taste, by configuring your computer your way to express your.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi benjamdm,

Check if the backup files are located on the disc:

    a. you can view the contents of your backup by opening the wizard to restore files.

    b. open backup and restore by clicking Start, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.

    c. to browse the contents of the backup, click Browse for files or click Browse for folders.

If the backup files are always located so you can restore it using the link below: restore files from a backup:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Restore-files-from-a-backup

  • You need to install MS Office Pro 2007 on new computer after motherboard crashed on the old computer.

I have a license for MS Office Pro 2007 (US only) (OEM) that came with a new Dell laptop.  The motherboard on the computer crashed and I bought a new computer (Dell no).  Of course, I can't uninstall Office from your old computer.  Can I use my existing license to install/activate the Office on my new computer.  The new computer has the trial version which allows 25 uses.  My product key does not work because it has not been uninstalled or disabled (I guess).

Your product key does not work because you can not use it to "move" from an edition of the trial and because it has already been used (on the other system).  You must do it manually and I do not know the manual process for Office products.  As an OEM license, I do not think it can be moved to another machine - but if this applies to operating systems, I am not sure that it applies to the Office products (I've never had this issue before).  It may be perfectly fine once you uninstall the trial and download the appropriate version of Microsoft.  You need to ask the experts.

  • After 5 months of use... "You must allow replacing existing data to start using this device"

I currently have a very disturbing system status:

"You must allow replacing the existing data to begin to use this appliance.

"Are you sure you want to overwrite existing data?"

The unit shall be set up a 8TB ix4 - 300 d in RAID (I forgot the number). I am still able to access and read / write from the network, and as far as I know that no other messages indicate that none of the drives failed.

How can I solve it without risking the 2 TB of data? What happens if I click on OK?

    Hi whitby,.

The first thing I recommend you to do is backup your data even if it is still available and you can access and read/write to the device. Your unit is probably in RAID 5 because this is the default value for the device. With RAID 5, you can lose a single drive and be able to continue to access your data, but if another hard drive were to fail, your data will be lost and you need data recovery.

Once your data is backed up on a second location, you should be fine to replace the existing data and to rebuild the RAID. The real problem is that the drive is most likely a failure and it will be replaced soon. If you are covered by the warranty, I would recommend contacting technical support to send in a log dump so they can get more information from device to see if the hard drive needs to be replaced. The warranty covers the replacement of the hard disk. Otherwise, you will need to get a replacement of the hard disk that is the same manufacturer, speed, and as long as the original disks.

  • After cancellation of Windows 10, still getting notificiation at system level to Windows 10. ("your upgrade is ready, you must now restart to install... »)

    Hi all

I have a problem with my system which concerns the upgrade of Windows 10 - I agreed to download, and then decided to not put at level I like Windows 7 as-is. Windows 10 then installed himself anyway after I didn't say thank you, and after giving it a try I rolled back to Windows 7 because of the 10 interfering with my internet protocols and prevent net access.

HOWEVER, now that I'm back on Windows 7 I always get Windows 10 update notice ("your upgrade is ready, you must now restart to install... "), and Windows update will only say it has downloaded 10 and I need to reboot... I uninstalled the update of KB3035583 according to online recommendations to stop this, but my Windows Update still says that it needs to restart the upgrade, despite the fact that the upgrade has already been installed, restored, then uninstalled and is basically not wanted. Windows Update issues are of no assistance (cannot find a problem and does not have a relevant help topic as far as I can find), and because he insists on an immediate reboot I can't seem to access the more updated list to find a solution. I actually tried to restart the computer, but this results in the same situation - 10 Windows is always uninstalled (thank God), but Windows 7 is still give me urgently install and restart notifications for what I can't get rid of.

I'm sure I can't be the only person having this problem, but I can't find any info online (all I found is on the way to restore, rather than how to deal with the consequences). At the moment it's like I'm working with Malware, which really is not what I expected from Windows normally and honestly, isn't hard enough.

    In summary:

10 installed Windows, then restored to 7.

Windows 7 update still wants to install 10 Windows and locks in trying to restart.

Restart affect anything, as does cleaning registry or try to uninstall the previous updates.

As far as I know, it means that I don't get updates to Windows 7 in the meantime.

As it is, I'm really worried about the State in which the company Windows 10 has left my system and no matter what help he is serving my system and updating so that Windows 7 can return to normal again would be very greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region.

    Windows media player dvd region

After you apply an update to the media player, I now get the error message

"Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region. »

natuarally ive checked the area defined for the reader and even tried to re applying the region

I then noticed its doing the same thing with dvd stored on my media server, and while he would not even play MPEG or avi stored on my hard drive

I went to my comments to logon (standard user) media player works fine

so I'm back and tried to reinstall the mediaplayer to my admin login, it wouldn't let me not delete it, ran Media Player microsoft penalty shooter, he said everything ok

so I changed the guest account on an admin account to try to remove it from there, but as soon as I did this mediaplayer stopped working in the feedback connection that leads me to believe its a sort of level access virus, that has permeated the media player or a defect in this connection required to complete admin update media player

    Hello

    ·         Have you tried the steps in method 1 of troubleshooting?

    ·         Do you have any code or an error message when you try to uninstall Windows Media player?

    Method 1:

You can try to connect the different DVD player and check if it works.

    Method 2:

You can re - register wmp.dll file and check if it helps.

    (a) log on as an administrator.
    (b) click Start, type cmd in the Search text box, right-clickcmd.exe, click run as administrator, and then click on continue.
    (c) at the command prompt, type regsvr32 wmp.dll press ENTER.

    Method 3:

You can also try to create a new administrator user account and check if it helps:
