6 InDesign cross-references cause mysterious line breaks

In a paragraph with several cross references (7), 6 InDesign, the scrolling text to the next line, apparently without reason, even if there is room for the text on the same line.

Here is my example:

At the end of line 1): when I do a link to Unit 52, it makes the word 'article' drop down to the next line, even if there is room for it. (And also with 19, 22, when they are turned into links, they fall down.) If I remove the reference cross on "52" the word return upward on the same line.

(1) animated and inanimate. This distinction affects how we use articles and verbs so we talk about in most of the units on the verbs and articles, but amongst the

other places in the following units: 17, 19/B, 19/C, 21/B, 22/A, / 22B and 22 c /, / 23 c, 27 (used as an object), 52 (summary of articles).

So after I created the 7th cross references, like this line breaks:

(1) animated and inanimate. This distinction affects how we use articles and verbs so we talk about in most of the units on the verbs and articles, but amongst the

other places in the following units: 17, 19/B, 19/C, 21/B, 22/A, / 22B and 22 c /, / 23 c, 27 (used as an object), 52 (summary of)

Articles).

It seems that 6 InDesign can't manage a number of cross-references in a single line.

Have you ever seen this happen? Do you know what to do about it?

Thanks for any input and help!

I've seen it happen. I also posted about it here, and introduced a bug report, but I have not tested to see if it is still present in the CC of InDesign post-CS6 versions. Cross-references can cause goofy cloth, implausible, in conditions that I can't identify. However, your text will probably compose as you expect if you pass the composer of normal paragraph to the paragraph universal composer.

  • Text tool: < enter > Causes wide line spacing

    Sometimes when I type in the text with the text tool and I touched < entry > for a line break, line break is single-spaced, you expect when entering text in any text editor.

    But often hitting < Enter > causes a line break, which is about six times larger than the font size. Weird.

    How can I cause the tool text always acknowledge < Enter > as a single space, compared to the size of the font.

    Change the line spacing of the character Panel. In the example below, the type, the size is 12pt and the leader 14pt (12/14).

  • Causes of white space, tab, and line breaks slow in running the queries? What is the main reason behind it?

    Hi all

    I am facing a weird problem in the SQL query. Taken, I wrote the request with the spaces, tabs and line breaks after execution it slows down the database and finally, I have to restart the database again. But after removing the spaces the application went very well. I don't know what the problem causing this slow run, but after the removal of whitespace to query everything works fine. I've also confirmed plans to explain the two after the removal of whitespace and previously had the same results.

    I use the TOOL of DEVLOPER PL/SQL, SQL developer, Toad and Oracle 11 g.

    For example. (in reference to my original query):

    Double;

    ****************************************************************

    (After removing whitespace)

    Select * twice;

    What would be the reason for white spaces causing slow performance?

  • Make Indesign cross link references to the top/above the point of landing?

    The cross-references in InDesign, create interactive hyperlinks that point to a location in the PDF file where the paragraph of targeted destination is just at the top of the page. Often, it's too far - sometimes the text of the paragraph is actually the top of the page, and usually it's partially on the top of the screen.

    When a person follows a link, the text more in sight in the middle of the page has nothing to do with the link they clicked, and the position that matches what they clicked is often partially on the top of the page as if it were scrolled beyond past. From my experience, that it looks like a mistake - they often do not see where they are supposed to begin to read until, in the confusion, they scroll upward a little.

    Is it possible to control this - to make cross-references jump up to a point with a decent amount of padding in the top, so that what am looking for the user appears in good position on the screen?

    After a few tries, I found something that might help to workaround: the "vertical offset" value for the first character in the paragraph destination determines where the new cross reference scroll will land. This could be the break character and could have (invisible) value of offset of baseline in a previous paragraph.

    • Give that first paragraph a positive base offset value is high, and there will be a corresponding filling above the text amount when the incoming scroll lands.
    • Give that first paragraph a very negative base offset value, and it will be pushed up above the top of the screen an equivalent amount.

    In my problem paragraphs that were not yet on the screen when an incoming link landed, their first character (a tab between the paragraph 'bullets and numbers' number and text) acquired somehow a negative change, one above in unrelated paragraph.

  • Export EPUB from InDesign CC not including line breaks

    I'm done with a book and it were formatted as I want. I'm exporting to EPUB with InDesign CC and image displayed in preview in iBooks and also through Kindle previewer. Everything is great except for one thing... where I created the page breaks, the exported file includes them.

    I tried to export as HTML just to see what he's done and there's no line breaks. I know its owner markup (in kindle) but I still want to include them in some specific places (to mark the separation of the chapters).

    In kindle, it's the tag they say to use: < mbp:pagebreak / >

    In iBooks, I've yet to find how to create, I'll work on that today once I have set the kindle version.

    Y at - it no way to force if it includes the breeze to the export line. Or otherwise, I could export to HTML but I can't find how to bring back in the EPUB format from there and also it did not include the fonts, so he had other issues to consider as I have a custom font that I used for the headers that looks really good and matches the font on the cover of the book as well... so I really want to keep that consistent if possible.

    Are there tricks or things I can try here to improve my workflow and do a better job of separating the chapters?

    You need to mark the paragraph style, you use for chapters in the paragraph Style Options/Export marking/Split (only EPUB) Document.

  • Cross references in invisible space causing unwanted packaging

    I have a document I created an index of carefully mapped using cross-reference page numbers. However, I have a huge problem where the references take up way more space as they should.

    Take a look at the following screenshot:

    Screenshot-2013-10-10-14.16.01.jpg

    Notice how the numbers could easily fit on one line, but they begin to wrap way before they come into contact with the other side of the text block.

    It's very frustrating! Can someone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix this problem?

    Thank you.

    It's very frustrating! Can someone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix this problem?

    No and Yes.

    No, I have no idea why the normal paragraph for this composer. I reported it as a bug in the past.

    Yes, if you go to the universal composer, the bug goes away - the WRC doesn't have this bug. Looks like the normal paragraph composer to think of the variable as longer is it really, as the WRC doesn't have this problem.

  • Cross-references in InDesign does not convert the links in the PDF

    Hello

    I can't work on any model that... I have a number (75, to be precise) of references in a single InDesign file to other locations within the same file. In InDesign, all work well - I can go from destination to source and vice versa.

    When I export to PDF, about 20% of them (I did not, I'm afraid) jump me to a particular page... page 58 of the 61-page document. They should not. There two correct links to this destination, the rest should go to various other pages. All cross references are using heading styles. I have not used all the bookmarks (if I remember correctly - work has been done some time ago, but has only raised the issue).

    In some cases, there are destinations in the PDF files to the appropriate pages, so I'm fixing this way links. They cannot be the original destinations, because I have more than one destination per page in some cases. In other cases, there is no destination for the page required... they have not been exported, so I'll have to create destinations in the PDF file as well. I noticed that a lot of destinations end with "Anchor xx" (where xx is a number), others are a 5 digit number what is the difference?

    It has been a pain fix these, but will be even worse when the document is updated in a few months... I don't want to have to manually re-create each hyperlink each time. I also wanted to use InDesign for another project, but the files would be updated on a regular basis in this case and if there is a known bug, it would not be an acceptable load.

    Any suggestions? Oh - the graphics are almost all related, and most are anchored frames... don't know if this has an impact, but I noticed when picking topics cross reference that some were (chart) after the title of the topic.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Endnotes in Indesign using cross-references

    Hey all,.

    I'm trying to follow this tutorial using the endnotes in indesign:

    http://blogs.Adobe.com/indesigndocs/2009/03/endnotes_in_indesign_cs4.html

    In what it suggests, what appears in the document ends up being the full note:

    so that everything that I want to make is:

    1

    In his case, he could just make "1" appears. I note under reference dialogue format, his example shows "end note paragraph number. There is no option for me. Anyone know what it does I'm not understand?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Looks like this tutorial for step 4 details omitted the details of creating a cross-reference format. Click on the pencil icon indicated by a red circle in the screenshot of the dialog new references to open the cross-reference Formats dialog box, where you can create or edit cross-reference formats. Select the paragraph number in the list of formats provided by InDesign, then click on the '+' to paragraph number in double under the number of paragraph (1). Replace the note at the end of paragraph number name, as in the tutorial, or any name you like. Enable (check) for reference character Style, choose the style of characters superscript, you created as described in step 2.

    The "" notation in the reference format dialog box captures only the part of subsection the reference point to auto-numerotees. In your example above, it is supposed to be "1".

    Google search for terms like "InDesign create cross-reference formats", without the quotes, if you need more information about the several subtasks of reference mentioned here and in the tutorial.

  • help on cross Reference Type indesign

    Hi you

    I have a question. Is it possible does not show the number of the page where the reference is in the same page? in a sample is attached. Thank you very much! It's really important... pls let me know. Andrea Imbrosciano

    Cross Reference Type indesign.png

    Hello Andrea, if you delete the text you are referencing, the cross reference will show as 'broken' in the Panel cross references. At this point, you can navigate to the reference, using the icons in the lower left corner of the Panel and to remove the reference. About changing the order of multiple references, they will appear in the order in which you create them. If I understand what you're trying to do, you want to combine, or concatenate almost references. (See tab 10, tab.11 and tab 12) on page 102. You need to play with the cross-reference formats to see if you can get the results of your search of. I did in the past, but usually end upward with a kind of workaround. There is no easy way to refer to multiple text boxes.

  • import of text in oracle causes a loss of line breaks

    Hello and thank you for helping:

    ------

    First of all, I export this table (single varchar2 column) to a text file.

    The column in the table includes the text with line breaks.

    ------

    O FileWriter = new FileWriter (jlogdir + "/" + jtablename + ".txt", true);

    While (rSet1.next ()) {}

    jcolstring = rSet1.getString (jcolnum);
    o.Write (jcolstring);

    } / / While

    ...

    ------

    Then later I try to import the text file into the database:

    ------

    While ((jfileline = reader.readLine ())! = null) {}

    jcolstring = jcolstring + jfileline;

    } / / While

    insert into the table with preparedstatement...

    ------

    Now the text in the database doesn't have line breaks.

    I tried this next line instead, but so far it does not work:

    ------

    jcolstring = jcolstring + "\r\n" + jfileline;

    ------

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Long life and prosperity.
    while (rSet1.next()) {

    jcolstring = rSet1.getString(jcolnum);
    o.write(jcolstring);

    } // while

    So, here you wrote each row of this column in the text file, with line breaks if the lines have line breaks in them; If not, no.

    while((jfileline = reader.readLine()) != null) {

    jcolstring = jcolstring + jfileline;

    } // while

    So here you create a string huge column consisting basically of the full-text file. But readLine() is to throw the line breaks for you. Were you aware of that?

    Now the text in the database doesn't have line breaks.

    Of course not. readLine() threw away, and you don't put back them. Also, I don't understand the logic of writing on the entire cell by cell file but by importing the Assembly as a single file and waiting for the result to be the same. It will not.

    I tried this next line instead, but so far it does not work:

    jcolstring = jcolstring + "\r\n" + jfileline;

    It is not correct, because it (a) place a new line at the beginning of the text and (b) does not a newline at the end of the text. Move the newline at the end of the statement: jcolstring + jfileline + "\r\n".

  • Eratic behavior: book, the main text blocks and Cross References

    I'm on InDesign 2014.2. Mac.

    I'm working on a fairly large book. About 14 chapters / sections, about 400 total pages. There are also hundreds of cross references, almost all of them to anchor references.

    The design of the book is as simple as possible. There is no graphics, text blocks only.

    I use a single master page, with facing pages, and a block of text type. I used it throughout the production of the book, and the primary text flow worked well, chapter after chapter. Pages have been created automatically, and automatically flowed text.

    Maybe I need to change the page size of the book, and I also have a lot of editing to do which will reduce a lot of the chapters. I wanted to make sure all pages use the main text flow to do that, go as gently as possible.

    To my dismay, I discovered that although I used systematically throughout the book master text streams, all but three of my chapters have inexplicably lost their text stream. All images in these chapters have converted into ordinary images. That I edit the book, it's playing havoc with paging and referrals.

    I tried to restore the flow of text in one of the first chapters. It's easy to do, in theory.

    • Move the first page off to the side frame
    • Delete all pages except the first page
    • Command-shift-click on the first page to restore the flow of the main text
    • Copy and paste the contents of the old frame into the primary stream restored.

    When I do, the pages to move properly, and I'm back to having a chapter with a block of primary text on each page. Unfortunately, this breaks all cross-references that refer to this newly reorganized chapter and all references to the front in this chapter.

    I tried to do all that I could imagine. Only remove the frames and not pages. Try without the busy book. Nothing works. I tried the command update cross-references in the book menu. Has nothing.

    It seems impossible to redistribute the text in a new primary master framework, without completely breaking the cross references.

    I finally found something that seems to work:

    • Create a new master page at the end of the document.
    • Go to the last page of the history of the chapter and the last history image a link to the text block type on the page that you just created.
    • In the pages palette, delete all pages in the document, with the exception of the master page that you created.

    All text will be redistributed within the frameworks of masters, and cross-references (to and from the frame) seem to be intact.

  • Adding breaks of the hyper link with line break

    I am trying to add a hyperlink to my document. The text I'm tying is long and crosses a line break. I select the text and then add the hyperlink, which seems to work very well, but then when I export to PDF and then click on the link, the link is broken at the break.

    Does anyone knows how to fix this?

    Yes. It is not InDesign, that determines what the hyperlink is right there, but rather the 'smart' function Acrobat who sees an address "www" and reads the text to the right on the PDF file. Pass this function disabled in Acrobat , and it should work.

    You can confirm that you have actually exported your document with active hyperlinks (it's a toggle in the export to PDF dialog box).

  • Automatically convert soft line breaks in the text box to hard breaks

    I have the design of textbooks and convert to ePub recomposable, broke up. These ePub files get formatted then can be used interchangeably on the printed text. A book that I am currently in conversion is a literature book where there are lines of text with the overall line numbers so that teachers can quickly refer to a specific section of the text.

    All the line breaks in the ID file are defined just by the edge of the text box. So the text box change sizes, all line breaks would also change. Isn't a problem until you need to keep these online breeze in recomposable text and add up the numbers in.

    What I'm looking for is a way to insert automatically the line breaks in these LONG sections of text in the right places. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do that?

    Thank you!

    Select a text box and run this script. He puts a soft return at the end of each line that doesn't have a carriage return. For more information on the installation and use of this script see http://indesignsecrets.com/how-to-install-a-script-in-indesign-that-you-found-in-a-forum-o r-blog - post.php .

  • Possible to turn off the legacy of line break in the table of contents?

    Hello

    Say I got a long title stupidly, that I need to address (and subtitle is not an option in this case):

    Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, adipiscing elit computer. Integer nec odio.

    Due to wide-ish the font size of the header in the document, I want to break this header in two lines.

    However my OCD uses a smaller font size, and so he could sit happily on a single line.

    The problem is that the inDesign TOC seems to be ineriting the soft breakdown and therefore the line break appears in the table of contents too.

    Is it possible to disable / prevent this?

    Thank you!

    Try to use nonbreaking spaces, or without breaks (spaces are less problematic) the part of the topic that you want to wrap instead of the line break is forced.

  • Several cross-reference Formats

    Hello

    I have a document with figures and notes. I use paragraph styles to dial my digits. I do the same with another style of paragraph numbering my notes.

    So sometimes I add cross-references in the text of a link to the image. (So if I add an image somewhere in the document, all the following numbers of the figures will be updated and I can update references in the text with the command "update cross-references".

    (Basic on the numbering and references stuff can be found here: tutorial InDesign: automatic update of the references listed for books: lynda.com - YouTube)

    Now I can use the "Cross Reference Format" option in "Edit the cross-reference" Pop Up.

    If I click on the little feather I can choose a character to the cross-reference style. So far everything is ok.

    (See images)

    But now I want to have a different format of cross reference, every time I refer to a note (then I want something with an exponent). If I refer to an image, I want the italic text, but not exposing.

    If I change the format of the cross-reference to a single reference, it will change the format for all references.

    Y at - it any way I could use reference formats?
