6 oversized report VM VROPS

I just upgraded a few weeks VCOP 5.7 to Vrops 6.0.1

In VCOPs, we had more than 400 virtual machines listed as "oversized".  In the new Vrops with migrated data, we show that 30?  It is quite a difference.  Even if analytics has been tweaked, I don't see how he could say that we have 30 VMs together in our overall environment that are "oversized".   All works in this, or have any ideas about radical change?

Everything depends on your strategy...

The default policy to vROps only the list oeversized if the recommended savings is greater than 50%.

Example:

If you had accrued 10 GB of RAM recommended should be 5 GB or less so that it appears in the report.

The default policy to 5.8 has been brutal with his recommendations as usually without adjustment you'd end up chasing your tail with resizing.

The vROps policy is much less aggressive and more realistic.

See you soon,.

  • Control user access to reports in vROPs

    Hello

I noticed that in vRealize operations Manager, we can say whether allow us a user to view or not (models + those generated) reports page, but I want to know if there is a way to show only some of them about the permissions of the user to the object whose report was generated on.

I also have a user who has the right to access an object (for example a vCenter). By my Admin account, I generated a report on this vCenter. I connected with my test user account, and I did not see the report generated, even it was generated on a vCenter that I have access to, but it does not show because it was generated by another user, and the report is not shared.

Any idea? I hope that I was clear. Thank you very much.

Unlike the dashboards, you cannot share the views and reports. You can only export the model and import it into the user account.

  • Oversized incorrect report?

Last Thursday, I reduced some VMs according to the oversized report that included the vcops VMs.  Now, I did not change my efficiency and now reports have weird numbers on them for vCPU configured as some of the machines with 2 vCPUs week last broadcast 1.9 vCPUs on the report now when they have only 1 vCPU and so on.  Any ideas what's happening?  Takes the VMs vcops up to 1 vCPU a problem?

Oversized reports work on average values calculated over a period of time. This time interval is configured in the Configuration section for views no trend. Then, even when you make changes, it takes time so that it is reflected in the result. That said, a change of configuration of VCPU should get reflected immediately if you chose the 'last known capacity' for the determination of capacity under Configuration. Please check this setting. Make sure it's not average.

  • compare the value of loan to a virtual machine: vRops vs. vCenter

    Hello

during the analysis of the values of a virtual machine cpu, I noticed value "ready" is not too much to skip between vCenter and a report of vRops.

After watching a few reports more it turns out that the value of ready in the vRops report appear to be much higher than in vCenter.

I made two screenshots that should tell more than any explanation.

I misread the values? Any ideas?

  • Recoverable ability in oversized VM report

I have a question how the total recoverable CPU is calculated in the oversized VM report.  For example, I have a cluster with 1414 hearts put into service.  Recommendation of the CPU is 1084 and recoverable CPU is 610.  I expect this total out equal (provisioned = recommendation + recoverable) but not nearby.   I see I have some VM with 1 core, recommendation will be 1.  I think that the recovery would be 0, but many cases, it is also 1 Although nothing could be claimed.  Anyone know why this is?  I want to get an idea of why this seems inaccurate.

    Thank you

What is the powerstate of these virtual machines where the vCPU allocated 1 vCPU and recovery is 1 vCPU? It might suggest a VM decomm. vROPs will make this suggestion for PoweredOff and Idle VMs.

I don't get too stock recoverable ability in vROPs. I really like the suggestions, but such people are rarely comfortable with resizing of a virtual machine to 8 vCPU until 1 vCPU. Then I usually start to reduce by half the specs and see how it works with half of resources once. If after the downsizing of a virtual machine at half the size, you feel comfortable cutting it in half again, go there.  This is my approach at least

The mail is not found in the Outbox and seems to float in the system. The messaging system works, I can send E-mail, oversized mail remains in the system when the other letters are sent and.   My Question is: How can I remove the letter mail in the window. I use Windows Vista, my mail server is Comcast. Thanks for the tips. Henning

  • How vrops generated reports can keep without overwriting

How vrops generated reports can keep without crushing it? is there a limit?

    V5.x, I think it's 5 reports before they would roll-off.

In v6.x, 10 reports in "completed" status which is the maximum, with older roll off as new are generated. This cannot be changed in the user interface to be, in terms of changing the limit.

  • Weekly report for VMS oversized

    Hello

On the basis of the use of the UC should send me weekly report for virtual machines that are oversized. but in the report itself, it counts only for these vms, which was oversized for the point

say, if I run this report at 08:00 on a particular day, then it checks for the period from 08:00-08:01 AM

    stress.JPG

Switch to the view of the oversized VM (content---> views) report

The view that creates the oversized VM report is called "Machine virtual Rightsizing CPU, memory and disk.

Change that view and go to 'Time settings', you will see that it is probably set to 1 minute. Change to the length you want for your report. In my environment, I use "45 days" as an example. After registration, rerun the report, and you should be good.

  • vROPs - you can create a report to show when a virtual machine has changed and what has changed?

I can't currently developing a report/view that can show me what I'm looking for.  I thought since it's related capabilities vROPs can keep track.  Is there a way to see the when a virtual machine has changed and what has changed?  Looking mainly vdisk, vCPU or vRAM.

    Thanks for help or suggestions.

    Hi newbski1,

There are few things you can try to help him with this.

    1. the events view shows you changes in resources, it is not terribly detailed, but it will help

    2. depending on your version, you can also view in Configuration Manager that is part of the vRO suite that will show you the changes to configurations.

  • No green symbol to create a report customized in vROps 6

    Hello

I have recently installed vrops 6 and I need to create customized reports, but I don't see any green symbol to create... that the delete symbol, the symbol of model execution, and stocks symbol with the possibility to export the model.

I see in the official documentation of the green symbol: vrealize-operations-manager-60-cust-admin-guide.pdf

    Procedure

1 in the left pane of vRealize Operations Manager, click on the content icon, click reports.

2 in the report model tab, click the plus sign to create a template.

    and in these videos:

Create reports with vRealize Operations Manager - YouTube

vRealize Operations Manager 6.0 Documentation Center

You see it on your vrops? I missed something?

    That's what I see:

    and these are actual permissions:

Another thing that comes to mind a license->, check if the creation of custom reports are included in your license.
I * think * the option is not available for standard

  • Joint units in vrops reports

I vrealize this vrops is a new product not patched (perhaps the best new version that vmware has dropped in a long time!). One thing that I found today, it is that at least datastore reports values for the parameters such as latency, and rates are mixed.

For example if I run a report e/s VM inventory data store and a CSV file to export I you read and write latency some other values in milliseconds and microseconds. With I/O rates, some are bps, Kbps and Mbps. This makes the data very difficult to handle (photo sorting in Excel). I hope that future versions will use a single unit of measure for each param as not to complicate things.

This one is for you, Mark J to the comments at the head of the propeller.

This behavior existed in v5.x as well. Nothing new here.

There are some built-in logic that exists v5.x + CapIQ where "return to default" cluster parameters Analytics to store in Postgres DB of the Caron have been up/down automatic rolling of the units of measure. If you run a report and get values in MB, GB, or TB, depending on how many decimal places had. Sometimes it is annoying if you were comparing each object in the same range. The "fix" was to create a supermetric in the user interface customized to follow this # gross, before the VM interface user, then leverage THAT value + unit of measure in a custom report. That's how we worked around that sometimes. Alternatively, we could get cautious with the definition of the units of measure in the reports themselves to block a measure specific unit... yet once you had to be very careful what metric value/types, you are working with.

V6, have some default reports measure unit set to 'Auto '. This means that RV Ops will choose the unit of measurement according to the decimal points... just like 5.8 + Caron did. However, we can solve the problem. Go ahead and change the view 'Virtual Machine inventory - data i/o store '. Go in the "storage | the lines of data"and you'll see that it set to 'Auto' unit. That set up a specific unit and SAVE for cela only display in a coherent unit in PDF and CSV reports.

  • How can I run a regular report on an hourly basis in vROps?

Is it possible to run a report on-demand on an hourly basis? I don't see that weekly and monthly under this function...

It's probably possible to create something at the database level, however, my solution was just to create 24 hours and check all boxes from Monday to Sunday. Do it once, and you don't have to worry anymore. Even if you decide to recreate the view, the report model is still there with all 24 schedules (12 h to 23:00), took me about 10 minutes to create each one. But that solved my problem for now.

It would be good for VMware acknowledge it and make a characteristic product, for the next version.

  • VROPs - creating reports for VMS that were down for 60 days or longer

We have a requirement for the creation of a regular monthly report for virtual machines that have been down for 60 days or more. I thought by using the default "Disk space recoverable of Virtual Machines for some time" for the creation of this report would be the best option. But the date of the option of filtering to this view does not give an option to choose anything prior to a specific date.

There is possibility to choose the last days of specific", also has the ability to relative and absolute dates > do not know which option is best for filtering to see my specific opinion. Date range seems also seems to be a good option but it needs so many dates. It would have been nice if we could choose only the Date 'To' leave the Date of something more to this day.

Any help on this is much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Matz

I think that this could be a really useful report, but when I was testing the integrated perspective time settings had no effect on which were virtual machines.  It seems that it is show all virtual computers that are turned off, regardless of the parameters of time or how long the virtual machine has been powered down.  I've played with filters and could not find a way to filter the virtual machines based on the length of time that they have been turned off.  What I did to work around this problem, is to add a column for the metric"summary | "Powered off time %" and the Transformation of the value average.  If the virtual machine has been powered down for the entire period that average will always be 100%.  If it was powered at any point the average off power time will be less than 100%.  Is another metric, you might use this "summary | Turn off the power"with the set Minimum Transformation.  If the virtual machine has been for the entire period that minimum will be '1', otherwise it will be '0 '.  I thought that the percentage was easier to understand, so I went with that.  Time settings, I use just the last 2 months.  I have attached the view that I use.

  • VROPS 6 - location of the reports?

    Hi all

We have deployed a fresh deployment of VROPS6 to replace our old device of Vcops5.8.2.

    We wanted to start fresh

Question - in the new version we can't seem to find the reports tab

We are looking for the setup of the Cluster or host inventory report and the report capability and optimization, as we previously in 5.8.2

Could someone advise where we can find the reports in the new version and where we have implemented email addresses so that it is sent to?

    Thank you

You can use the "Find" field to find your Cluster / Host.

  • Permissions on the report templates & views

Is it possible to give a non admin user permission to copy a view exsisting or models or give him the right to create a new view or report templates without the ability to remove or modify the default / built-in views and models report?

The user must be able to remove the views & templates report he created or copied himself.

I tried this but as soon as the user got delete it or change the law he was also able to remove or change models and integrated views.

UPDATED July 18, 2016: I dropped a request for service at VMware for that matter.

Het bericht is bewerkt door: Simmetje

    VMware support response:

    Hi Rob,

I have troubleshooted this extensively in my 6.2.1 lab environment and concluded that it is not possible to achieve in vROps at the moment and we look at a feature request.
I came to the same conclusion that you mentioned in the case where as soon as the user got delete or modify right he was also able to remove or change models and integrated views.
Even a view or a report created and owned by the local user admin can be deleted by a user to test if they have the delete permission that their responsibilities under the management of the views. If you don't give them the delete permission, even when they create a notice or report that they own, they are not able to remove it.

In contrast to the dashboards, which can be shared by the local user administrator and set up for a user in turn, views and reports are not the same.

In order to put this file, we would suggest to send a feature request. Would you mind signing your request using the link below:

It is the best way to get traction on requests for features or product improvements, you can have.
