6008 USB running random resets

Hi all

We use the USB-6008 to control both engines and acquire data from a number of motion sensors. We are the control with LabVIEW 2010 on Windows 7 on a laptop. Usually, it works fine, but sometimes without reason, that we can see the resets USB-6008, causing a REAL output on all channels, causing the engines whir round and round up to the stop.

It happened one time three times in one day and then didn't happen last week. It happened once when the sensors were activated and sometimes not.

Someone has any idea how to prevent this, or if not how can I check this software and stop it if it happens?

Thank you

Danielle

6008 are fine for a control, as long as the appropriate security measures are implemented.

Yes, they can reset from time to time... or if windows feels like it... or, if windows crashes, or apply an update, and restart the machine... all kinds of reasons.

And Yes, all the digital outputs get pulled high when this reset occurs. Analog output goes to 1V, you can use a comparator and a few logic gates to drive outputs digital to a "safe" State for your application, then turn them digital outputs by driving the analog output to 5V.

A more elegant solution, as crossrulz says, use a more compatible device like cRIO or PXI controller. Obviously, this adds considerable cost to a system.

Power savings options are usually the culprit. Only turn on each device and root hubs.

You drive the 6008 via a USB hub, or directly to the output of the PC? Is the PC restart or throw errors (see the system event logs)?

  • Design practice nor 6008 USB DAQ

    Hello

I have a few question, I'd like to introduce. I need some sort of indication on how to better perform a timed cycle of acquisition driven by WSF.
I'll send my VI (conceptual, not one currently working one) and ask for explanations.
    The goal

I need to acquire a battery voltage. Load current consumption is driven by a couple of transistor. I drive the hollow transistors two digital i/o for USB data acquisition.

Because I need to have a power for a given time cycle, I need to have some sort of time control on the output.
So I wrote a simple state machine whose States are updated when a timer reaches zero. Each State has its own queue time.
Moreover, I differentiate between acquisition and control operations using two all in cycles.
First question: is this a correct way to a timed WSF of construction?

    and now:

    The problem (s):

I need to connect and establish a correlation between the input line for the internal of the fsm States. So I madesome digital indicator on the face before of the VI and created a local variable (I know that local variables are BAD, but I had no other idea everything) to pass values for some time to the other.

I also want to select State sequent of the FMS based on the input value, I get a channel. I can stil use a local variable?

    Are the two related tasks?

Second question: are local variables, something that I can use for this task?

Last but not least: I need to filter on the values.
In this vi I perform a filtering operation and then I get the I use for control of local variables.

will be this filtering desync the two cycles while? will I run out of control before running the filtering?

The same question is valid for the purposes of registration: the unfiltered data record, I guess is unnecessary. But based on this 'architecture' I know the country reports and the recorded signals are out of sync (as happens in many game data acquired with this vi).
Is this a problem of logging (perhaps given by different buffers for data acquisition and internal State or something similar) or the whole WSF will be out of sync, then all acquired data is more useful because it is out of sync?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Best regards

    Luca.

    Luca,

Question 1: This is a reasonable start but need some things to make it a good WSF. There is no waiting or delay in the loop so it will run as fast as possible. U.S.-6008 outputs digital software timed so that the DAQ Assistant can take a long time, but the amount of time is unknown and not necessarily consistent from iteration to iteration. Since the DAQ Assistant Analog Input in the other races of loop to<= 10="" iterations="" per="" second,="" a="" wait="" of="" 100="" ms="" in="" the="" fsm="" loop="" seems="" like="" a="" good="" starting="" point.="" waiting="" 3000="" ms="" is="" not="" a="" good="" idea="" because="" the="" loop="" becomes="" unresponsive="" to="" the="" stop="" button="" for="" long="">

Do you need to write on the lines on each iteration, even when the data has not changed? Add a write state that is called only when the data changes.

The DAQ Assistant has a Stop input and an output of Stopped. When you are ready to stop the loop, the stop signal must be wired to these inputs so that the DAQ Assistant can delete tasks. The output of the order can be connected to a Terminal to stop the loop.

    Problem (s):

It seems that you want to link the two loops. Local variables are usually a bad way to do it. The best way is to use queues. A queue can send the current state of the file loop. (More comments later if that's really what you need). Another line can send data, or better, the commands, the loop of the file to the loop.

I think you want digital output values rather than the State. Especially if you add a State writing as I suggested above, the current state will not always represent the condition of the power of your test. To make this work with the additional state Boolean matrix must be moved from one iteration to another via a shift register.

It seems that you have at least two controls to be sent from the loop of the file to the loop. One is the stop command. The other went to the higher power level control. You should probably have a command to set off power level which can be used if the battery voltage becomes too low and before stopping. How your program is currently configured, the last level of power will continue as long as the power of the computer is on and the USB-6008 is always plugged. The cessation program does NOT reset the lines.

When you use anti-parallel to the queues, you must be careful on the definition of wait times and the timed out case management.

The benefits of the queues are that it is easy to ensure synchronization at the level you need, the data can be stored according to the needs, and there are good examples. It also avoids the possibilities of race conditions, often introduced by local variables. This program could be based on a variation of the design producer/consumer model.

Filter questions: any filter introduces a time delay. In your case when you filter 100 samples 10 times per second, it is likely that the filter will do well until the next data set has arrived. The delay of the filter is not affecting your synchronization. The above lines will solve problems. Since you are looking at time of cycle seconds and the minimum interval on the order of 100 ms, the exact chronology (to tens of milliseconds level) is probably not too important.

The real question about filtering boils down to this: does the control work better if the signal is filtered?

    - - - - -

I'd probably all this a little differently. Given the slow speeds and the small amount of data, a simple loop with an improved state machine is all that is needed. Get rid of the DAQ Assistant and learn how to use DAQmx screws. States could include: Init THE Init, Init File, Idle, read, write, DO, Analyze, filter, adjust the power, wait, Save, close file, DO, AI Shutdown Shutdown, error and exit. No variables. No indicator fake just to allow the creation of local variables. Very little code outside the structure State case. None of the queues.

  • 6008 USB shows the digital signal with nothing plugged

So I really hope that's not too bad, I guess it is.

I had problems reading of my digital USB 6008 entry this morning. Everything worked very well last night. Now all digital lines on the device to read a signal if it is has that anything connected to them or not. When I run the DAQ Assistant and test line, it shows a signal to each line. Then I did the joint VI (which should do the same) and it shows a constant signal in each line also. And I have nothing connected to the unit. Should reset somehow, or it is broken? Or am I just missing something?

    nckeeley,

Look at pages 21 and 22 of the User Guide Ni USB-6008/6009 and specifications. Digital lines have a traction 4.7 kilohm place resistance to + 5 V. It will be a line of input opne look (and be) high.

I notice that you have several changes to third-party hardware. There are some third-party RAM installed and a double HARD drive installation. They should be directed to see if one of them is the cause.

These are your software possible candidates for your kernel panic:

Remove them and reinstall them individually to find the "problem child".

NVIDIA, CUDA is the prime suspect in my opinion.

  • Questions about SD and USB running Vista on Satellite M40X

Well, I've updated my M40X to VISTA, if it is not mentioned on the list of allow.
Well, actually installed on a new formatted partition.
Runs smoothly, RAM is sufficient, component more slow seems to be the CPU, well, fair enough.

Obviously, I'm not able to get the card reader (chip SD card combo, xD,) or the USB ports running.
The two is listed in Device Manager, the USB hub and the customer of the sd. In addition, there are a storage device mass with a pilot error in the list.
Whenever I have insert well tested cards, USB HDs mp3 players or that it is in the slots the computer sometimes makes noise-ping but does not show any device in Solution Explorer or a new letter of the device.

I think it's some kind of driver issue, but found no solution. Not even after researching dayandnight on forums and other things.
Card reader is "Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Intergrated Flash Media Controller", as I understand it.
Well, I'd be more than happy and greatfull if someone could recommend a solution for these problems, pref with links to the drivers.
    Am really low.

    TIA

    Hello

As you know, this laptop model is certainly not support Vista and Toshiba will design all the Vista drivers for this model of laptop. I can imagine that Vista works very well, but without the right drivers, it is not easy to use certain hardware components.

I recommend you to use Windows XP Home edition. WXP works great on this laptop. For all tests, you can install Vista on the second partition to see how it works. I think right after a few weeks remove you Vista and use WXP as before. ;)

  • USB-6008, USB-6501 and Embarcadero C++

    Hello NEITHER and NOR users,.

I spent a considerable amount of money several years ago on a number of devices USB-6008 and USB-6501 for a class that I teach on interfacing the simulations with realworld sensors and actuators. Write us code using Embarcadero C ++ Builder and we wrote the code to interface with the jury of EZIO AD / DA via RS - 232. The EZIO is much too slow and limited. Given advertising NOR, we bought these boards, but after several attempts to get some information OR on the way to talk to these devices directly via C++, we have yet no valid response. No, I don't want to LabView or any additional expenses. I just want to talk to them directly.

OR: are you ready to help with this, or not? If this is not the case, although wanting to refund these purchases. Announce as being accessible from C++, but you are not willing to provide any help of substance to this day...

Yes, I am self-taught, write code, and old-school enough to feel that I have a right to know how to talk to all the devices I buy. I confess my ignorance, but I'm sick and tired of secret corporate and misleading advertising.

Can someone please provide me with enough example of code to start. That's what we wrote for the EZIO:

    http://www.Duke.edu/Web/ISIS/Gessler/Borland/RealWorld-Ezio.htm

We would like to start writing similar code for these materials of NEITHER. If possible, we can buy more. If this is not the case, these cards are useless.

    Kind regards

    Nick,

When you have installed the DAQmx drivers to communicate with the 6008 and 6501, I assume you also installed programming examples? It is here that they are on my XP machine: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\DAQmx ANSI C. I don't think that Embarcadero C++ Builder is one of the languages supported, so you'll need to twist your compiler, but it should give you a good start.

  • graphics randomly reset

I'm having two issues that may or may not be related. My graphics card keeps resetting itself. Sometimes, it works and I can continue working.other times I get a screen full of vertical lines and have to reboot. The computer also will not combat or race to the power of the battery. If it is and I unplug the power adapter AC it is closed. Any ideas on how to fix my dv7 problems want? It's the windows 8 that I am running after doing a full restore yesterday in the hope that if would solve the problem. If didn't.

    CAREB,

Thanks for getting back to me. In all honesty, it seems that the material starts to go.

However, my last suggestion is to reinstall the operating system. This is because their may be a software or a virus causing the problems you describe. It's a long shot, but since you will need to backup everything in any case, you can do it as well.

First of all, please make sure that you back up your files. Here is information on how to proceed: backup of files (Windows 8)

Once this is done, it is safe to reinstall the operating system. Performing a recovery of HP (Windows 8) system

If the same situation occurs, the risk computer has a faulty hardware. At this time, please contact HP telephone support or bring to a repairer to evaluate.

If you enjoy the information provided, please mark my posts with congratulations and "accept as Solution! It would be useful to me and someone else help to find this information in the future.

I'll look forward to your response!

  • 6008 USB differential measure of floating resistance source & bias

    Hello

For some time now, I have been measuring the sources of floating signals such as transducers of linear speed (LVT) in differential mode by plugging directly into the differential inputs. The sensors have an impedance source of usually 1 k or less. I read recently that if you want to measure a floating source in differential mode, you must use polarization resistors, as recommended in a field here Guide. But I understand that the resistors are only to prevent entry of bias currents pushing beyond common-mode signals. The recommended values are 10-100 k. However, the 6008 already has 140 k input impedance, so I figure it's "close enough". I have not noticed any problems with the signals that I measured, at least in the sense where it oscillates back and forth between 0V and out don't max. What other kind of errors I would see in my signals?

So in this case the polarization resistors are really necessary?

Due to the input on the box USB-6008 circuits, it is unnecessary to use polarization that are required, resistors ofter on other devices with impedances of entry much higher. The picture below comes from page 16 of the document specification and User Guide.

  • USB runs now buzzing noise

    Presario S5100NX

Hello, believe that I caused a short circuit and now there is a noise of snoring/snoring coming from inside the pc. Accidentally hit the side micro usb cable to the usb hub, computer shutdown / crashed? and when I turned it on, the buzz began and monitor shows the Compaq screen with a configuration F1 and F10 system recovery options. The two option fail. Switch keyboards and F1 & F10 always inadmissible.

The noise comes from a little black cylinder, with AC - 1205G and add the sign inside a circle on his back. It is located right next to the port which connects the power button and led lights to the Board of Directors.

Need to know if there is a reset or fuse. Is the Council possible burnt or bad? Can I repair or should I bring to a service center?

    Help.

The AC - 1205G Unit is a magnetic buzzer. Given that your venerable old PC (10 years) gave you many years of great use, it seems a good time to replace. There is no fuse or reset on the motherboard.

It is highly unlikely that you will be able to find a replacement motherboard as they are no longer manufactured. • Windows 7 64-bit USB mouse randomly freezing

    Hello

My Microsoft Wireless Natural Ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse 7000 freeze randomly.

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit

    Drivers: Latest IntelliPoint IntelliType

Latest drivers for p6x58D premium mobo and all Intel chipset drivers USB installed. All the drivers are up to date.

Several other posters here have the same problem. Their solutions have ranged from:

    (1) disable USB (tried without success) power management

    (2) updated drivers (fact) (fact) windows update

    (3) use the usb mouse not (not an option)

    (4) time of DPC latency (not verified, no problems)

Uninstalling drivers USB Root Hub 5), reboot to reinstall (does not work)

The only thing I have left to suspect, is that I had to plug the mouse/keyboard before installing intellipoint/intellitype for the first time. As I built the system from scratch and have no other key/mouse, I need something to click/press to do the installation of windows and intellipoint/intellitype. Yes, the instructions on the set of microsoft to install software first of all that's probably the source of the problem? Should I track down a PS/2 mouse, reinstall all the drivers for mouse/USB?

    Any other suggestions?

    Hey Chris,

I found the source of my problem. As others have suggested, wireless interference are the problem. :(

However, before the test of this theory, I removed all the neighbours of the wireless devices, (not a microwave nearby) and moved the mouse right next to the receiver which was attached to my desktop, but it has not solved the problem. This leads me to believe that the issue is not reached. After all, if the mouse is 3 inches of the receiver and still problems...

However, after reading around online, I found a place that mentioned that large metal objects can interfere with signal as well. Then it dawned on me that my entire computer chassis was made of steel. It is not a plastic case, rather a metal.

I purchased a USB extension cable and kept the receiver for the mouse wireless of the case, and all the Frost took to occur! :)

Thanks for all your help, Chris, Debra and Curry!

  • 6008 USB channel power for specific times

    Hello

I am new to Labview, so I don't know if it's easy or hard to do.

I have an attached VI who writes exits Digital 12-channel.

What I´d wants to be able to write each channel for a specified time (avoiding the is fine - it doesn´t have to be super accurate, but he needs to turn off automatically after a certain time).

    For example:

When I click, channel 1, I want him to be for 1 second, then turn automatically cut and wait for the next command.

When I click, channel 2, I want it turn on for 0.5 seconds, before turning automatically turn off and wait for the next command.

When I click, channel 3, I want him to be for 5 seconds, then turn automatically cut and wait for the next command.

    etc.

So when I click Run, I could click on channel 1, wait a few seconds, channel 1 still once, wait a minute, then channel 3, wait 10 minutes, then channel 2, etc, in any order.

Is how easy it to do? Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Jon

    Hi Jon,

If you want to set the time separately, my guess is it would be easier for you to create the channels separately. It's more manual work, but I think it's better to come up with an algorithm of time-supervision to all channels at once.

To trigger the output, I think that it is better to share entries, then perhaps it would be good to get out them of the matrix as well.

In a loop, you can check the value of the button and then just write 1 to the port, wait for the timeout with time delay vi, then wrtie 0 again.

If you create tasks separately and do not merge error, the process for each channel will work in parallel, so a delay will not affect the actions of the other channel.

    Kind regards

    Mariana.

  • Z330 randomly resets / accidents

So my phone restarts randomly. Sometimes during calls sometimes when using the app or just lying on my desk doing nothing. It's only 2 weeks. This would be a case for a replacement unit or is it a software error?

    Thanks for the reply.

I think I found the cause for the accident. I had too many applications open. 8-10 and I think the phone just can't handle more. It did not crash because I force close applications after using it.

  • Multi-channel AI program 6008 USB in c#

I am writing a program in c# to collect data of voltage.

I want to allow the user to toggle the channels they wish to collect of (up to a maximum of 4), refers to the number of samples and the sampling for each frequency and write the log to a file of PDM. I think Task.AIChannels.CreateVoltageChannel call four times to create the four channels and Task.Timing.ConfigureSampleClock four times to set up the sampling parameters individually.

Similar threads seem to indicate that a single channel of AI must end sampling before another channel of AI could begin. Is this true? My method would work?

You right about that, there is only a single clock controlling the task, so there is no possibility of setting the channels at a different pace, and the API would use a final which has been set up.

A common practice when different high sampling rates are required is to sample the fastest rate required for all channels and then "decimating" data for slower channels, so you can get the number of samples that you expect.

  • Random resets on the taskbar and other things.

Well, then this probably won't to come out very well because I don't really know what I'm talking about you, but I will go ahead in any case. I watched an episode of a television show of my hard drive on the VLC Player and it froze and nothing was happening, there just repeat the same section of the episode on a newer, no matter what I did, I closed the lid of my laptop but it continued so I stop the laptop by holding the power button and when I turned it It came with a black screen and plenty of writing emerged as she has been updated or do something tells 1/3 and all a bunch of numbers, and when he finally turned back on correctly, almost everything was the same except that I used to have my taskbar and window colors purple, and now they are back to normal and I don't know how to change it back , and the only other thing I noticed that changed, it was that now when I tap all open programs in the taskbar, it came not with the small windows as it was, if that makes sense, he said only: name of the window. That's all until I've noticed has changes, and I would like to know what the problem is and how to change it back.
Thanks :) Just FYI, I have little knowledge of computers and so I tend to google everything.

    Hello

As the issue took place recently, I suggest you to perform system restore to the date it was working fine.
