8.1 Windows upgrade-C file undeletable

Hello

4 months ago, I bought a laptop HP with Windows 8 is installed. I waited 4 months to upgrade to 8.1 thinking that the system would be very different and I was right! I hoped to be able to download Microsoft Security Essentials, but couldn't, even if Microsoft promissed, it would be possible.

My question is quite different. After the upgrade from 8 to 8.1 I was stuck with a record of old C extra 30 GB (when Microsoft boasts that the 8.1 is lighter) which I was UNABLE to erase the because I did not have permissions (I tried everything). I've missed something in the process, or is there a way to delete the old folder C?

Thank you for the support of Paul. Did you come by the way?

Merry Christmas

Kind regards

Fotzou

    Hello

What installation media you are using?

    Method 1:

Error 0 x 80070017 translates "CRC error" which means that the files that are copied from the disc are not making it to the hard drive with the same structure, which means that the 'original' the disk files are modified/changed/corrupted while being copied to the location of the 'destination' on your disk during Setup.

This usually means a bad DVD, or an error reading on the DVD player.

  • The windows 10 ISO file will still work to upgrade my computer to Windows 7 after the date limit to install the free version?

    Original title: upgrade Windows 10

I made an iso file for windows 10. I am waiting to upgrade until all the bugs are being developed. My question is: will the iso file of windows 10 still work to upgrade my computer to windows 7 after the date limit to install the free version?

The ISO will work after the date limit, but you can buy Windows 10 after the date limit, if you don't improve and activate it before that date.

Windows 10 is delivered as a service:

    Windows July 10 release - build 10240

    Windows Update 10 November - build 10586 (with many updates depuis.13,.29,. 36)

If you want to take advantage of the free offer, you must do so before July 29, 2016.

If you the newer versions are released before then, you can always download and install when it becomes available.

You could also install it now then download updates via Windows Update as soon as they are available.

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).
  • You want to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7 Professional. I ran the Windows Upgrade Advisor, and he told me that I can upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate. Why not professional?

I want to install Windows 7 Professional.  I ran the Windows Upgrade Advisor, and he told me that I can upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate. Why not professional? Or is this correct?

You can still install Windows 7 Pro, but it requires a custom installation. This will remove all your programs (you will need to reinstall them), but you can save your files and settings to external storage before doing so.

If you want to make a place in the upgrade you will need Home Premium or Ultimate.

What Upgrade Options are available for Windows 7?
If you are running Windows Vista , in some cases you can proceed directly to Windows 7, and in other cases, you must perform a custom installation. The following table shows what editions of Windows Vista can be upgraded to Windows 7.

    Windows Vista Home Basic

Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate

    Windows Vista Business

Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate

Help, please!  I was stuck on 99% of the hours now and there are theoretically less than 5 hours left to complete the update.  I hear people say, "let him finish", but I've also heard that MS is saying that the entire process MUST be complete before 5: 59 EDT, 30/07/2016 so that Windows 10 be considered free.  I don't want to get stuck in some purgatory between Windows 7 and 10, because the installer gave up before he finished.

  • Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be damaged or missing. Error code: 0 x 80070241.

I had a lot of trouble trying to install the 64-bit version of windows 7 Home Premium on my 64-bit vista, and my question is multi-part. If it is relevant, it's my 2nd copy of windows 7 I have tried. Initially, I had the problem of not being able to run the installation on two copies with the error "'autorun.dll' could not be found or is damaged. Error code is [0x7E]. "However, I managed to get into with my 2nd copy installation after restarting my computer. Once in Setup, I got another error that stopped the installation that says "windows not could create an installation folder. Error code is 0 x 80070017. "Again, I rebooted my computer and started the installation again, this time following installation was decently through but stopped when I got the error"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be damaged or missing. Error code is 0 x 80070241. "I then backed up and restarted my computer and then tried to use the option to install custom but then got the error"E:\sources\autorun.dll is not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program using the original media, or contact your system administrator. "coupled with the error"the file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Error code is 0xC1"again once I restarted and tried the custom option but got the error" Windows has no load the required file WinSetup.dll.» The file is possibly corrupted. To install windows, restart the installation. Error code is 0x3E6. "I restarted my computer and tried the custom triple option more and still have the error"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be damaged or missing. Error code is 0 x 80070241. »

I understand that my problem is very complex, but it seems to be built around a missing or damaged file. Thanks if you can tell what's wrong or what to do.

    * Original title: critical lost files after update PC on Windows 8 - not in the Windows.old folder, so what is the best way to get back them?

Initially, I had a problem whenever my phone wanted to do an update. It takes 30 minutes for the update and then I would get an error saying updates could not be performed changes recovery. I called the helpline PC came with my computer. After a few here to get the update to work, they told me that they will have to perform a PC Refresh. I was told that I would not lose any of my personal files, photos, docs, etc... I did it. At first, it seemed everything was ok except when I went to access some files that belong to a photo software I use.

I knew that my software 'Panstoria' would have been lost, but I wasn't expecting the files I have access through it to lose. When I reloaded Panstoria I couldn't find the files I acceding known for 'My leap' software, which file name is manifest.vaultx. This software allows me to label photos, file in categories, journal etc. Again, I didn't know all this has been a problem because the software States very clearly that all of your photos and other are not saved in the software but rather your documents... then I thought about updating PC would be ok... turns out NOT. I can't find "repository"My"in the documents. I have even returned to the folder Windows.old and they cannot find.

My questions are these: what is the best way to try to recover the files? If I do a system restore which will bring back all the documents as they were before the update? A system restore would return all users that may have been changed as well?  I'm just sick to my stomach that I can't find the file because it is the last 20 years of pictures and videos of my family and if I can't get these back I lost all my memories :-(

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the problem, I understand that, after the system update, you've lost critical files.

I imagine how it could be frustrating when losing essential data from the computer.

To better understand this issue, I would like to know the following information:

    1. What is the brand and model of the computer?
2 do you have him comes preinstalled with Windows 8 computer or you have upgraded the Windows 8 of the older operating system such as Windows 7?
    3. you receive an error message when you try to access these files from the Panstoria software?
    4. where these files saved locally on the computer, as well as my safe?
5 did you cooling system or the system restore?

First of all, I would like to inform you that if you this execution of a cooling system, would not create a Windows.old folder.

The Windows.Old folder is generated when you perform a customized Windows installation. The files that were used in the earlier version of Windows are stored in the Windows.Old folder.

Perform the refresh of the system: Applications that you have installed Web sites and DVD is deleted. The applications provided with your PC and applications that you have installed in the Windows store will be resettled. Windows puts a list of apps removed on your desktop after you refresh your PC.
Follow the article below to know what are the powerful effects of cooling system.

Refer to: refresh your PC without your files
You can refresh your PC without delete all of your personal files or change your settings.

I suggest you look for missing files on your computer, by referring to the article below.

Search for files in file Explorer
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/search-file-Explorer
Note: You can search for files in file Explorer using the search box next to the address bar in top right. (Note that my computer has been renamed to this PC in the file Explorer in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1).

If you are unable to recover the missing files, I suggest you check once in the trash.

If you are able to find the files in the trash, I suggest you to restore files from the Recycle Bin.
My safe also stores the image files.
Refer to WHAT PEOPLE ON MY safe STORE:

If you are not able to find the files that you have lost the computer I suggest you to contact my Vault to recover lost files.
