860 - 160se CTO: install a SSD and SATA power connections

I try to add an SSD for my computer.  Does anyone know the correct references to allow the DSS must be installed in drive caddies in the chassis?

Also, I will need another cable to SATA power by the look of it.  I need an explanation of the various SATA ports on the motherboard to know that one to connect the new drive in.

Thank you

  • Virtual MACHINE disk SSD and SATA III?

    Hello

I am building a new workstation tech support and will greatly appreciate your advice:

In short, I am migrating from a 92 GB 32-bit Win7 with the only platform of RAM 4 GB, for a Win8 - 64 bit with 32 GB of RAM platform. From experience, I know that it will take months of "free time" until I can complete installation, configuration, data migration and upgrade of all Win8 software I need to run my business on a daily basis. In terms of continuity of activity for the moment, my way of thinking is to:

    Install a fresh Win8 64-bit in a C: partition of 125 GB on a new 250 GB SSD.

Create logical partition D: on the remaining 125 GB SSD.

I'll then P2V old Win7 on a new VM VMware on the D: partition.

BTW, I'm not looking for methodology on the mechanics of the P2V here, because it is beyond the scope of this post and I know how to do this with the VMware products and 3rd party utilities.

    This should help:

    1. gradually get the host physical Win8 upward and entirely configured at my convenience, being able to continue to run Win7 in the VM for my daily activities.

    2. enjoy benefits and features of productivity which offers VMware Workstation on the competition.

    3. enjoy the impressive speed expected to have the VM Win7 on an SSD.

    4. several months from now when I need is more VM Win7 for daily activities, move the VM Win7 off the SSD (more than one pin SATA III), delete the D: partition out of the SSD and resize the partition of Win8 to use any DSS.

If I do the migration of this way, Win8, I can do (part 3) full backups / incremental of Win8 C:partition and partition D: Win8 (which holds the VM Win7), the image separately as an activity based on required on these partitions. Yes, with the stop of the VM or suspended of course during imaging of 3rd party partition.

    The $64 questions are therefore:

    5. the sound that precedes like a plan?

    6. or, it would be better to just install Win8 on the SSD of 250 GB of space (with VMware Workstation installed of course) and put the VM Win7 on the pin SATA III that contains my other virtual machines? My 3rd party software Imaging allows full/incremental file, so I could just save the VM Win7 directory on this axis. I can see potential disk latency issues in this scenario, if I have the old VM Win7 running and at the same time also work on (for example) two guests Windows Server of pre-production with a few guests of Win7/Win8 (to test ERP software or question MSSQL). There are five virtual machines running on this SATA III 7200 RPM spindle.

Sorry, that was so long. I look forward to your thoughts and comments.

    Kind regards...

Personally speaking I use the SSD together as a single partition and have a low spindle drive where you can run your file exchange and the VM, it would be different if you were running multple VM and wanted that they have spun fast and enjoyable, but as it's a loophole to stop until you get all migrate by then I don't see why you want to divide the SSD.

My MSI laptop has 2 SSD mSATA, the operating system of the House and a brooch my VM and file exchange and tbh I don't suffer at all with performance, I even was called to run virtual machines running (plural) from a device USB 3 instead.

  • Can I install an ssd and its system of MacBook Pro mid-2010 on a Mac Pro mid 2009

    Hello

My MacBook Pro just died yesterday (logic board) and I want to install the SSD with the system on a Mac Pro.

I just ordered a case to install the ssd drive in the machine.

I wonder if I can boot directly from this SSD or if I do the previous setting in the system.

Given that the Mac is able to run the latest version of Mac OS X, and you want to move the SSD for older Mac rather than new, it should work. I guess that saying you 'ordered a case to install the ssd drive in the machine' you mean connecting via USB rather than internally, which would be a great test.

If it works, I would say running the combo for OS update comes on the SSD once it is installed in the older Mac.

  • Mini 300-050np Pavilion: Pavilion Mini 300-50NP - Possible to install an SSD and keep the SATA?

    Hello

Just for the sake of the argument, can this descktop take a second HD and have it be an SSD? Someone who knows more about PC that I do currently told me I should try this update but cannot find if it is possible to do in this one. I found an online on this subject but inconclusive discussion.

Photos online of open chassis, it seems that it has space to take a second drive with the original but I see not all ports to plug. There is a location empty on the set and I don't know what it is for...

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there @Kutusov,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that you have a question about the SSD with Mini 300. I'll be happy to help you.

The desktop HP Pavilion 300-050np Mini Card, it comes with a 2.5-inch 1 TB SATA 5400 RPM drive. It is the only drive that has been tested to work.

Upgrade and maintenance Guide page 11, it shows there is place for a single player.

My P50 m2 comes with a SATA SSD that I think upgrade to SSD PCIE. Is it not possible?

    Yes.

In fact, if you chose the 512 GB SSD in M.2 when ordering, it is the Samsung PCIE version.

  • Pavilion 500-281: where to install a SSD and the best way to get the operating system on it

I have a Pavilion nine 500-281 with Win 7. I bouight a SSD 128 GB to load the operating system on it.  Where can I get inside the chassis? It seem not to be berries of classical records. It came with an adapter with the screw plate, but it's not obvious where I was able to ride the thing!

In addition, can I just run a restore to get the OS on the SSD drive, once I have installed?  I received instructions with the SSD for ADATA software copy an image of the disk, but all I want is the operating system.  I'm dying to start using my new computer, but I think I want to get the reader installed first before you make any changes that he.

    Hello

Review the #8 message in this thread.  Not all models of the 500 - 2xx Pavilion are provisioned for the SSD in the location as shown.  In the indicated installation, an adapter plate was not necessary.

Most SSD manufacturers have free software migration.  I suggest that you image the entire HD, all partitions even hidden partitions.  Some of the more recent migration software will allow you to exclude your data records.

  • Weird Audio problem since installing new SSD and reinstall the OS and the upgrade of Ram

I have a really strange problem in first (well the same thing happens with native files outside the first he too!)

Some of my corrupted .wav and .wma audio files. At first I thought it was a buggy project file.

Then I checked some other files of the projects waiting to be done and they were the same time of a heart attack.

So I copied the apparent bad file to my laptop and it plays very well!

Then when I check some audio files of the projects finished on my PC they sound corrupt too! And of course, they were very nice when I actually finished projects.

I have tried in the first CC2014 and CS5, but it is not the program that I know now.

I googled "Audio codecs Windows7" but all the options appear to be malware, someone has any ideas? Y at - it a codec pack that I could try?

  • Slow startup after installing the SSD because gray screen

I just installed a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010. I went to start and it starts very slowly due to a gray screen just sat there for about 30 seconds and then it shows the apple logo and it takes another 15 seconds to load. The gray screen did not appear before installing the SSD but the Apple logo did take longer to load with the HARD drive. I used SuperDuper to clone my my SSD HARD drive and installed the SSD and it starts normally. The only issue was the gray screen. I've heard that I need to go into system preferences and select Startup disk, then my boot drive, but there is no choice. Help, please.

    Have you seen this article?

How to choose a boot on your Mac - Apple Support drive

  • Troubleshooting: Addition of SSD and then boot from it

I have a G1 600 ProDesk, recently bought with a single 500 GB hard drive.

Before migrating all my programs from the old machine it's replacement (which some require installs ALONG), I wanted to install a SSD and use it as the startup disk.

I bought a Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB drive. I have hooked up to the system (SATA1), started and 8.1 Win Panel to format the SSD (Master Boot Record, like HD).

    Stop the machine rebooted

I started the computer, the computer beeps and I got a system message "IDE Device Failed"

At the bottom of the screen, in a field otherwise black, was a message that says: "F1: Boot ' so I did and it seems to start fine.

I saw a note in a thread on the confirmation of AHCI, I thought I did this way:

    1. start

    2 valve

    3 F10

    4. in the main menu, select storage

    5. a small window pops up stating: "SATA emulation: AHCI '... If you select, you can change it to IDE, but I don't change to AHCI is always.

After machine has started, and I installed Samsung software cloning and it recognizes the drive and cloned my main HD for the SSD drive. I will stop the machine.

I went to the SSD to the port SATA0 on the Board and put the HD in SATA1.

«Restarting the machine and got the IDE Device message "failure" again, with the message "F1: Boot".» So I did it (i.e., you press F1) and the machine (from the HD).

    I will stop the machine.

Unplugged the HD (just to check), restarted the machine, the message "Unable to IDE device" once again, with the message "F1: Boot.  Then, when I press F1, I received a "No. System Disk" message, if I put the HP Win 8.1 restore disc in the DVD player, and it started from that.

Tried to install from DVD on the SSD drive. When I get to the part where it says "Where do you want to install Windows?" it shows the SSD, I select, which says "Windows cannot be installed to this disk." When I click on "Show details", he says: "Windows cannot appear on this disc. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the drive controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS Menu"

So... Two questions: what is the message of the IDE?

And the MFS 600 ProDesk disabled to install an OS on an SSD? Or should I do something differently with Win 8.1 software restore disc?

Maybe I need to solve the problem of message IDE firstly, re-use the Migration software and then try to boot from it? I have a feeling that is the source of the problems, anything you can help with would be appreciated!

  • 15-ab236nl Pavilion: Pavilion 15-ab236nl install an SSD

    Hello

I am interested in buying this laptop

    Pavilion 15-ab236nl

AFAIK, there is no option for a second HARD drive, so if I change the default HARD drive with an SSD in my choice would that work? (which means I'm able to reinstall Win10 etc..)

or rather, if I had to buy a HARD drive for this model caddy, swap it with the DVD drive and install it with a SSD would that work? Do I need any special ribbon cable?

There is no information about this exploit, so if anyone has any opinions or knowledge that would be great.

I'm just asking if it is possible, not how, that would come later.

Here are the applicable maintenance manual:

    Manual

The first thing I want to emphasize is that this type of change, which probably will void the warranty. That said, it is possible to install an SSD, and according to the configuration you order, you can add a second hard drive in the slot of the WSSD m2 or the SATA connector, if she's not busy factory.

You generally don't want to use the optical Bay for one SSD because the interface is slower than the main SATA bus and a player any connected as it will not be bootable, so you end up just with very expensive and paralyzed storage speed if you put an SSD in there. The best thing to do is to get out the mechanical hard drive spinner, put it in the optical Bay for storage and install an SSD. The m2 slot gave people fits, so I recommend you just work with SSD SATA 2.5 inch and not a m2.

  • I want to install an SSD, but then change drive under normal storage

Hi, quite new and mac OS lovers, bought one after windows kept crashing on me

    I bought an iMac 27 "mid-2011 running with a 1 TB 4 GB 3.1 ghz i5 drive

Im going to attempt to install a SSD (never opened an iMac upward before but ive read online)

I want to install a SSD 128 GB Samsung 850 Evo and install an another 4 GB Ram

I want to install El captain on the SSD, but then change my current 1 GB to store my photos and music

I was going to install the SSD and then load my current drive.

Then install the el captain for the SSD by keeping the two separate drives.

Then start in the SSD and format the old drive and reinstall all my necessary applications

    What do you think guys?

    Thank you

    reinstall all my necessary applications

Not sure what you mean by the above. Aren't you going to keep the Applications folder on the SSD? If you reformat the drive of 1 GB, you will lose all your data. I hope that you have backups.

Other meanings, it should work. I would like to download El Capitan before beginning.

  • Screen of C850 - 1 H 8 satellite flashes and turns off using SSD and win 8

Hello, I bought a C850 - 1 H 8 of Ebuyer and I removed the hard drive installed windows 8 on it and installed my SSD, and then a clean installed Windows 7.

The laptop was working perfectly, and then after a little more than a month, the headphone jack has become defective intermittently. I contacted Toshiba, they picked up the computer laptop, fixed and returned.

When the returned laptop, I still pulled the hard drive provided with Windows 8 and replaced by my SSD with Windows 7 top.

The laptop screen started flashing on and outside. So I thought ok, they must have changed the material. Using the SSD even I formatted it and then reinstalled Windows 7.

I find that contrary to front - that my laptop according to the system information for Windows - is manufactured by LG and not Toshiba.
I also find that the desktop screen and startup splash turned into a screen LG and not an a Toshiba.

I contacted Toshiba and they gave me, told me to ask for a replacement from Ebuyer. I was passed between the two companies constantly. Then I took the hard line with Toshiba and said that they have damaged my computer and I want a replacement or I will not buy another Toshiba product.

I then return a petulant response from Toshiba, actually insinuating that aside from the faulty earphone Jack, it was my fault. Incredible.

I had not used my new laptop at all really after all of this, because I'm sick of all this. But today I started to use it again, and after some time of use, the screen flashes again. Even after using a new installation of Windows 7 and the clean use of Toshiba Windows 7 64 bit drivers for the right model.

    What can I do?

    See you soon

+ The message was edited summer - subject wire +.

    > When the laptop returned, I still pulled out the hard disk provided with Windows 8 and replaced by my SSD with Windows 7 top.

It was not good because headphones is part of the motherboard and I think they replaced the motherboard. In such cases, the bulk of the material is changed and do not use the same system pre-installed due to the compatibility of the driver. This can lead to physical problems.

But the screen flashes at the beginning with 8 win preinstalled?
Have you seen the LG sign turn on/off the unit after replacing the mobo?

Maybe service guy (ASP authorized service provider isn't Toshiba but independent company) I forgot to update the DMI and therefore LG sign appears on the screen.
But in my opinion this should not affect the screen but this should be verified using Toshiba original image (Windows 8)

I have an M50 - 8187 think Centre and I see on the motherboard and in the manual that there is a 1 SATA and SATA 2 connection. I tried to plug in a SATA 2 hard drive but when I connect it using a SATA data cable, there is nothing recognizable in the BIOS.

I took a 30 GB IDE HDD and hung like a slave and the BIOS recognized immediately.

My question is, if a SATA hard drive can be used on the M50 series think Center and if so, what do I do I do get recognized in the BIOS SATA 2 controller. I've updated the BIOS with the latest version, but it did not help. I don't see where in the BIOS to enable the SATA.

  • Inspiron 3650 SATA power cable

I want to add a new hard drive to my new Inspiron 3650. I have the sata cable, but looks like I need to buy a power cable. What I should buy and where can I get a? Thank you

I had the same problem trying to get the secondary sata power cable to the sata 2.5 drives. In the first command, they sent me the primary sata power cable that has only a single sata power connection and a connection from dvd player. P/N = KC81G. The sales rep insisted it was the right cable.

I called back and discuss it with another sales who has been able to help me. She said yes, there are 2 different reference numbers and the correct is P/N = GP2JM. Once I received it I installed it and it worked perfectly.

The part costs $4.99 with free shipping.

Oh, they have no photos to show what they look like.
