a1250N hard drive parallel ATA or serial ATA q?

I'm helping a friend repair his a1250n. He had 2 hard drives in his computer. (2) a Sata Drive and (1) a 20 GB parallel ATA.

The parallel drive is dead, and there seem to be problems with the sata drive as well.

If I put a new disc into his computer, and this will be its only by car, can I use a sata drive or the first drive should be a parallel ATA drive?

I have the recovery disks and reinstall windows.

Thank you

Just to be safe, check the BIOS to see the configuration of boot sequence, it is possible to that this device was shipped with a SATA drive.

And make sure your friend has the recovery CD/DVDs.

  • X 200 + Intel SSD 330 - HARD drive password / ATA defined but no prompt

    Hello

I have a Lenovo X 200, that I just bought (in used condition), ridden by me with a 330 Intel SSD. I tried to set a password for the HARD drive with a supervisor password and a power on password and supervisor password and turn on the passwords seem to work as expected. All the passwords are identical at the moment. To test if the HARD drive password was really in fact, I removed the power on password. Now there is no prompt to normal startup. I tried to put the HARD drive password once again, but there is still no prompt.

If it is relevant, I put the HARD drive password after formatting the drive and installing Windows, but as far as I can understand it, there is no reason this matter as long as the computer's BIOS and firmware of the Player shouldn't care/know what data is on the drive. In addition, no significant/important data on the drive at the moment, so don't worry giving advice that could make existing data on the disk unreadable.

    Best regards

    Eric

OK, I think I just solved this problem by chance: after the electric bike computer (stop and remove the power cord and the battery for 10 seconds) the VT - x to work, the HARD drive password prompt now works as well. I hope this can help someone else with the same issue in the future.

  • Use old hard drive parallel m9340f desktop?

I have a HDD ATA parallel from my old computer that I would add to my m9340f, which has a serial ATA as its hard drive.  I don't know, but don't think I see a connection on the motherboard that I can use in parallel.  There are places available next to the serial ATA in the hard disk box, but I think that all I can see are series connections (power and data).  What do I have to use a converter for data transfer and power?  If so, someone suggestions on good to use?  Or should I buy an external hard drive enclosure (wouldn't).

    Thank you!

The m9340f uses the motherbard IPIBL-LB. As you may have guessed, it didn't have a PATA/IDE, just a floppy and SATA connector:

    You have two options:

    1. you could get an external enclosure and put it in that and use USB or Firewire. This is probably the best choice. Turn around on the internet, you should be mean to find them for less than $20. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817121034)

    2. they do PATA to SATA connectors, however, this would require opening your computer and install the drive. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232004)

    3. install a PATA controller card. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815280009). But because all your slots are full, you will need to remove a.

  • Change the hard drive of my Inspiron 9300

    Hello!

This is my first post on this forum.

    Since July 2005, I have a Dell Inspiron 9300.

As it is now out of warranty, I would change the hard drive in it.

So I have a few questions, I'm looking for answers to if possible.

I will present my questions in two different parts, the first is on the material, the disc itself and then the software thing.

    (A) material:

    (1) should what equipment I expect? I know it's a hard disk IDE, so I guess I have to get the same kind, in parallel ATA works?

    (2) I read here and there that the BIOS is limited to hard drives 120 GB, because more is not supported by the latter. You know a way to expand this capacity? (Only a medium chest!)

    (3) what kind of drives advise you? (Brand, speed, etc...)

    (4) I read on description hard drive 'IDE ATA 100' or ' IDE ATA 133 "in online shops, you know what it is?

    (B) software:

    (1) I would like to be sure that I will install the same things as when I do "Ctrl + F11", for the utility norton Ghost (want to keep this option!), which reinstall the entire computer with factory settings. I will get this during the installation with the recovery CD? Or you have a way to get this? (I want the same computer I have today, except a different HDD only!)

    (2) do you know how to create a D: partition, so that I have a part for programs and a part for the storage of the files?

    (3) how to install, is it: replace drive HARD; start the computer while starting on the recovery CD, Partition the disk HARD C: and D: (with the D: partitioned within the C: drive, I guess) and complete the installation of windows with the included Dell factory settings?

I hope that I won't bore you with my questions, and you'll be able to answer. It would be nice, because I'm not a pro from the computer, only an amateur.

    Thank you very much

    Vincent

  • Satellite 1900-100 - what is a maximum size of HARD drive

    Hello
I would replace the drive ide 2.5 "on a Satellite S1900-100.
What is the maximum capacity of hard disks in this laptop?
    Max

    Hello

As far as I know this laptop supports the ATA-5 interface and, therefore, it should be possible to use the 120 GB IDE HARD drive as ATA - 5 supports the 28-bit LBA

But to be honest I didn t find details what size HARD drive max can be compatible

I seems that you would have to test

  • Need help hard drive M55

I just bought an office used for thinkcenter M55 (8808w7t), which has no operating system on it.

I have a new current USB 320 external hard drive with an internal hard drive IDE ATA/100 in there with my current windows OS XP Home on it and all my files. (I bought this for my default Dell original replacement hard drive)

What would be the best way to transfer my current content of the USB hard drive to a new drive hard internal SATA in the IBM PC and the size of a hard drive can accept this computer?

I have Acronis True Image 11 software and the only Windows xp CD I have is my operating system from Dell restore CD.

And my external hard drive USB this will work for the backup with this PC?

Under Linux, you will need to download and save the update to the bios. ISO file. Burn it. ISO image to a cd, set your bios to start from the cd, restart and check all your bios settings, mine was due to my original settings.

  • ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay fit III 43N3412 for T61

Anyone know if this adapter works for T61?

So far I couldn't find this "40Y8725 ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter" on the site that says work for T61.  But I thought Ultrabay options are supposed to be interchangeable? I hope that this is the case.

I prefer to buy the newer model if it is compatible for the T61.

It's one of the T61. Ultrabay slim housing uses a PATA connectio to the motherboard of the laptop, so the adapter you buy contains a SATA to PATA chip to allow you to use a SATA hard drive.

While the new thinkpads, T400, T500, R400, R500, X 200, W500 all use a SATA connection on the motherboard of the laptop, so the device ultrabay for previous machines are not physically compatible. This move is due to the need to allow full support SATAII.

  • Set password Linux ATA hard drive / Toshiba Satellite Pro U200

Sorry for the long post, but I want to be as specific as possible:

    1)
I use a Toshiba Satellite Pro U200 under Linux (OpenSUSE) for some years now. Works fine without problems so far, even the fingerprint reader works. I deleted and never used the Windows XP preinstalled.

For security reasons, I have now decided to put a HDD ATA password, in case the laptop is lost or stolen (changed drive for a disk Seagate Momentus 7200 FDE.2 SATA II with full encryption of the disk material).

In order to get the protection offered by the full disk encryption, I need to set a password for the ATA. During startup, the Bios must request the password and unlock the drive only when the password is correct.

    2)
My problem is: in the Toshiba laptop it is impossible to set the hard drive ATA password directly in the bios (as is possible in HP laptops, for example). Toshiba there is only one way to set the password to disk, which is a software utility for Windows XP (named 'Assist'). But I don't want to change the operating system only to set this password.

    3)
Therefore, I tried the linux instructions

    hdparm - user-master m - security-all-pass SecretMasterPassword/dev/sda
    hdparm - user-master u - security-all-pass SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

which are used for adjustment ATA passwords. Indeed, at first, it seems to work very well. The password is set and the drive is locked.

    4)
When I restart the laptop, the Bios the HDD password request, as it should do.

But he does not accept the SecretUserPassword prior to seizure. The answer is "wrong password", or similar.

    5)
    Analysis:

I have no doubt that the password has been set correctly: I checked by restarting the laptop through rescue DVD in linux and unlock the disc via

    hdparm - user-master u - safety - unlock SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

in order to use it. No problem, it works as supposed to. After the release, the disc is usable as usual. And I can also disable the password via

    hdparm - user-master u - security - disable SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

After you disable the password, the laptop starts normally again, but I have no password.

When I re-enable the password bios Toshiba again asks the password during initialization, but does not accept the (correct) password on entry.

    6)
Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior?

Bios Toshiba has somehow changes the password entered by the user, before being sent to the disk? I think that this would be inconsistent with the ATA standard.

Anyone managed to set/change the password to ATA in a way that the disc can be unlocked via the internal order of the Bios, without installation of Windows XP and the Toshiba Software 'Assist '?

Thanks for reading this long post so far. Any response is welcome.

    hmetz

    Hello

As you probably know Linux is not supported by Toshiba and if you n t get some good advice here I recommend you to visit a few Linux forums and try to discuss with experts in Linux it.

  • Portege S100 ATA HARD drive password issue

    Hey guys

I just wanted to ask a quick question. I've owned a Toshiba portege S100 computer laptop for about 18 months and he's had a life constantly on hard lol and some stains of coffee etc. Unfortuantly it launched the bucket the other week, so I got out and got a new toshiba laptop :)

My problem is that I can't access my hard drive? He had a password for HARD drive that I got and now I can't unlock it. I tried several tools to unlock the dam thing and wil it unlock NOOOO! Now, I'm an unhappy man, because all my work was there.

I have a tool that has several options to unlock HARD disk utility? It requires a login and a tank to fill? I was wondering if someone can help me?

    TY in advance

    Zarren

    Hello

Unfortunately, if the HARD drive password has been set and if you n t know the password you will not be able to unlock the HARD drive.

To my knowledge, the HARD drive password can be deleted from the BIOS and any other disk HARD unlock utility will not work.

In my opinion, there is nothing to my buddy :(
