[A40-211] no sound

Yesterday I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP. After that, I installed the latest drivers for the Intel chipset and graphics chip, the games, Toshiba common modules and the driver of the touchpad.

The problem is that I can't get the laptop sound. Earlier that day everything worked fine, but after a few hours (and the installation of the drivers and programs), it did not work at all.

I can't think of something that has nothing to do with the sound.

I hope someone here can help me.

Hello

checked the sound settings and volume at the control panel! It may be that mute is activated!

Also check the modem if it is installed properly because her are related between them!

Good bye

  • Increase the video memory of the A40-211

    Hi all

I have the Satellite A40-211. The Intel chipset also supports all of the graphical stuff, so he needs a little more memory RAM as video memory. This is possible up to a maximum of 64 MB. The problem is that the chipset is now using a maximum of 16 MB of video memory, but I want to expand this to 64 MB.

Where can I find the settings for this in Windows XP Home Edition?

    Thanks for all the help!

    Bart

Hi, it s not possible to increase the video memory yourself!

Let me tell you that your laptop is a dynamic memory management

Your computer system reserved graphic only as much memory as it needs to accomplish all tasks running on your A40.

.. dynamic video sharing .This is not bad, as I think!

More info on your graphics chip basic find on pages of Intel.

  • Satellite A40-211 - there a 512 MB or 2 x 256 MB RAM?

    Hello!

I have an A40 - 211 (its the Netherlands, maybe not to the United States under this code). It has 512 MB of Ram and I want to upgrade by adding an another 512 MB to 1 GB Ram. I know that my laptop has 2 Module, but I'm not there 2 * 256 or just a 512 MB and one other Module is free. If it has 2 * 256 MB, do I add a 512 MB and it works with 256 + 512 MB?
I see the AENEON (INFINEON) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 333 MHz is the Ram low price. Is this good or not?
(Sorry if my English is not so good!)

the link with the full A40-211 features:

    http://www.pricecat.de/en/p/Toshiba/PSA40E-0C1UK-G3/satellite%2520A40-211.htm

    Hello

The laptop has 2 memory slots, and it seems that both are busy! In this case, the laptop came with 2 x256MB.

    > It has 2 * 256 MB, then I add a 512 MB and it works with 256 + 512 MB?
Yes, you can use 256 MB and 512 MB set.

    > I don't see AENEON (INFINEON) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 333 MHz is the Ram low price. Is this good or not?
Usually the Infineon modules are not bad. The performance is optimal.
I always recommend the use of modules of brand and not no-name

You use PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR SODIMM 200 pin. These specifications are supported!

If you wish, you can consult this site. It shows the compatible modules:

  • Satellite A40-211: RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent

    Hello

I bought a functioning Satellite A40 - 211 of one of my friends, who had a defective model A60 from where I took the fast hard drive, the memoryupgrade and the internal wifi card, but the only annoying on the A40-211 new thingie is the message that the RTC battery is low or CMOS is incompatible whenever the laptop is turned off and turned on again (which also happens when a warm reboot is done)

After checking the laptop for any other problem (there was none), I decided to replace the RTC battery with a new... about 17,-euros in total cost. (Of the disassemble the whole laptop, but it has more than once 100 or so with other models, takes 15 minutes to disassemble and put them all back again once)
Did charge it new CCF to power the laptop up and leave it for at least 24 hours... (the manual says to do)

No results... always the same... boring message.

I also tried to reflash the bios, but the version 1.50 seems ok and cannot be replaced by the programming software.

So, we have a good laptop to work here, but with an annoying message that cannot be solved?

    Anyone with a good tip?

OK, a response to myself, because I've been tracking something here...

I replaced the hard drive to another laptop (Satellite A60 series) to the A40-211... installing Windows could be transferred, since the IDE controllers are the same... then just install some other vga - and sounddrivers to operate...

But... somehow with the new hard drive and therefore installation, date/time settings are lost after a restart or power off...
I also discovered that the installation of 'old' will not go into sleep - or standbymode... it will only close...

Then. I'll make a recovery disk hard 'new' facility, because it is faster than the original that came with the A40.

I'll keep things updated here... also because this isn't a real solution to the question...

Now, the question is: what makes the time/date setting go lost after this laptop with a non-on-this-laptop-installed-OS off the power?

  • Satellite Pro A40 - sound skips when loading programs

    PC: Toshibe Satellite Pro A40
Sound card drivers: Soundmax integrated digital audio

    Hello

When I bought my Toshiba Satellite Pro A40 my audio is not affected by loading programs and any other activities that could slow down my computer.

I had to resinstall windows a few months back when my HD crashed.

I reloaded all my drivers etc. and installed itunes.

When I play music or any audio I listen to jump seriously when loading programs or when processes are performed on my computer.

This used to be the case, I tried to change my settings from quicktime to run in safe mode, I even now deleted quicktime and itunes that I thought it was the source of the problems.

Nothing worked, my sound is still seriously affected when my processor is busy

I uninstalled, reinstalled my sound card drivers, but nothing has worked...

I would really appreciate it if you have all the settings I could change to stop this problem.

My voice through my microphone breaks a lot, so the people at the other end of a VOIP call can barely hear me... it's driving me crazy!

  • Satellite Pro A40 - driver Windows 7 sound.

Hi, IM running Win 7 beta on one of my laptops, which is be a satellite pro a40.

Ive got everything right except the "multimedia Audio Controller" aka the soundchip and the display adapter, which doesn't really count that I can see the screen etc anyway.

Now all I really need are vista 32 drivers where they are compatible with windows 7 32 OS.

But I can't find anywhere and archive here only has win2000 and xp more, I tried both and no work.

    Help!

    Thank you

I think you should search for drivers if external websites on the Toshiba site are not drivers for Vista available.

As far as I know that the Satellite Pro A40 is equipped with an Intel graphics card and so you should find the driver on the Intel page
    [www.intel.com]

In addition, the laptop has a card his Analog Devices. I checked the manufactures Web site and in the [FAQ-area | http://forms.analog.com/Form_Pages/soundMax/soundMaxSupportFAQ.html#question1] I founded the following information:
    > SoundMAX provides no drivers or software directly to computer users. To download drivers, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer
You will not find a driver for the sound card, but maybe an another Toshiba notebook is equipped with the same sound card so that's why you can find a driver for Vista.
    Check it!

  • Satellite A300-211 - light button has stopped working

    Hello

    How people you?
I have an annoying problem with my Toshiba Satellite A300-211.
I had windows vista Home premium 32-bit installed on it but then I removed and started using windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and a result of one touch media buttons used to switch the led light on and off changed its function and began to put the sound on and off.

When I installed the value-added package because the function key wasn't the button no longer works. It does not enable or disable the led light or the sound or no more.
It is blinking but does not.

    Can someone help?

    Hello

Have you tried to reinstall the VAP once more?
    Check it!

Moreover, as far as I know you can configure media buttons by using the software.
Please check the software in all programs-> Toshiba

By the way; lighting can be turned on and off in the BIOS settings too!

  • Strange problem with adapter on my Satellite A40

    Hello world

I bought Toshiba Satellite A40-221 more than year a go and it works perfectly. I m maybe a heavy user I have working on it in the average of 12 hours. Sometimes I work in manufacturing, especially graphics 3d next to games. last month, the lead of the charger is burned to the ground and it seems to be a shortage that has happened. I've corrected the charger several times myself, but it burns again so I sent it to a fixed workshop that he and they said they changed something inside the charger when I used it just a loud sound of it and lift it up I have not noticed before when I use any heavy program like games or 3d make things. When working on batteries could be the same sounds follows the laptop itself. The laptop works fine but this noise that I don't know it's a serious thing?

Also the charger gets very hot when I play for a long time, but when I use it on web surfing, programming, drafting... etc no heat is observed.
Have I sent to specialist Toshiba... help me please?

    Hello

In my opinion, you should be very carefully with that. As you know defective AC adapter may cause damage to your property at home and you should contact the SAV Toshiba partner in your country. I put t know where you live, but on this page, you will find a http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true useful addresses

If please contact them and explain the situation very carefully.

  • Satellite A40 HDD Possible fault... ?

    Hello

At the end of December, I had to return my A40 Toshiba for a new hard drive because it was not completely.

It is now March and I'm getting the same problems once again, I went to open Miscrsoft Outlook yesterday and the whole machine simply locked with the drive hard light is constantly on, but no movement.

When I restarted the machine, it simply froze on the windows xp logo, which is the beginning of my problems with the previous hard disk. I have a backup of the drive and think it might be windows currupt I resinstalled the backup but the same problem has started to emerge again, and I know that it was a 'good' backup image.

I tried running scandisk but it is stuck at 9 percent and crashes, I tried a complete reformat of the disc using and windows xp insall cd but this happens at 8 percent and crashes.

I'm just witing for this rattling noise the last drive makes when it is finally gone completely.

This sounds like a hard drive problem...? and should I be contacting support I have the additional guarantee of 2 years on this subject. Don't want to be told it's a software problem and I am sure that it is not.

    Concerning
    Brian

    Hello

This could be a beginning of the end.
You should always make a backup of your files, because the HARD disk may crash every time.
    Be careful

  • Satellite Pro A40: error message - cooling problems

    I have a Satellite Pro A40.
I cleaned the cooling circuit (hose and cooling fan), after hearing a strange noise from the cooling fan.
After cleaning the system, the error message "you have cooling shut down your computer and bring it to a service center" is displayed.
The fan operates at a low level, but do not accelerate as usual after opening several applications.
In this case, the error message is displayed and the system becomes extremely slow.

Thanks in advance for your advice

    Concerning

    Hello

sounds, something was wrong after cleaning. I recommend you to send your machine immediately to a service partner and let it check your machine because the laptop might have some serious hardware malfunction.

Before you send your machine for them, I would check the cooling fan cable and attach, maybe this could remove the error message.

If you need to find an ASP then click [HERE | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=ASP_SUPPORT] and find one that is closest to your country.

    Welcome and good luck :)

  • Need drivers XP for Satellite Pro A40

Just do a fresh install of XP on a Satellite Pro A40 of second hand. Various onboard devices are not known (of in XP Device Manager) and I can't go through the process of "Install new hardware" that I don't have the drivers. The devices are mainly the Multimedia Sound Audio Card and the PCI Modem. I don't know what manufacturer made these, as XP ID device as unknown Manager.

Anyone have any ideas or tips on how I can get the sound and PCI modem to work?

(I'm not using the laptop for this message, even if it has access to the Internet).

    Thank you

    Looking for XP drivers?

You can find all the XP drivers on the European driver Toshiba page!

For the multimedia and Audio sound card, you need to install the audio driver and Modem PCI-> modem driver.

You will find everything on the page of the driver.

But note that buddy, there are also a few QFE Ms. This is usual Microsoft patches and fixes that are necessary and essential for the installation of the driver.

Also check the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 update information. Sometimes the only drivers or utilities must be updated after the installation of service packs for MS!

    Good bye
