Satellite A40-211: RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent

Hello

I bought a functioning Satellite A40 - 211 of one of my friends, who had a defective model A60 from where I took the fast hard drive, the memoryupgrade and the internal wifi card, but the only annoying on the A40-211 new thingie is the message that the RTC battery is low or CMOS is incompatible whenever the laptop is turned off and turned on again (which also happens when a warm reboot is done)

After checking the laptop for any other problem (there was none), I decided to replace the RTC battery with a new... about 17,-euros in total cost. (Of the disassemble the whole laptop, but it has more than once 100 or so with other models, takes 15 minutes to disassemble and put them all back again once)
Did charge it new CCF to power the laptop up and leave it for at least 24 hours... (the manual says to do)

No results... always the same... boring message.

I also tried to reflash the bios, but the version 1.50 seems ok and cannot be replaced by the programming software.

So, we have a good laptop to work here, but with an annoying message that cannot be solved?

Anyone with a good tip?

OK, a response to myself, because I've been tracking something here...

I replaced the hard drive to another laptop (Satellite A60 series) to the A40-211... installing Windows could be transferred, since the IDE controllers are the same... then just install some other vga - and sounddrivers to operate...

But... somehow with the new hard drive and therefore installation, date/time settings are lost after a restart or power off...
I also discovered that the installation of 'old' will not go into sleep - or standbymode... it will only close...

Then. I'll make a recovery disk hard 'new' facility, because it is faster than the original that came with the A40.

I'll keep things updated here... also because this isn't a real solution to the question...

Now, the question is: what makes the time/date setting go lost after this laptop with a non-on-this-laptop-installed-OS off the power?

    I have a Satellite Pro A10.

When I turn everything first laptop computer on I get RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is unstable - press F1 to set date/time. When I press F1, I get a beep and it's everything that happens. I'm unable to had to set up or do anything at all with the installation program.

I kept it plugged in for 24 hours, but still the same results. I replaced the CMOS battery with a new. But even once, I get the exact same results.

All that happens when I press F1 and a sound signal. Is this a sign that I have probably a problem with the motherboard?

You can access the BIOS and could try to set the default settings, and then save the settings and start again.
If it doesn't, then it must be another reason for this message.

My first thought was that this error pops up because the BIOS battery is empty.
Usually such charge as described in your ad should help get rid of this message.
But it seems that there is a more serious problem

I m not quite sure what this could be, but the hypothesis that a motherboard could malfunction is not wrong.
I think that a fault of mobo might this causes too.

But in my opinion a mobile technician must check to make sure what's wrong.

    Hi guys,.

I need urgent help. I have a laptop, Toshiba Satellite A40-S161, which gives me the following error whenever I restart the machine "RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent."

I took the laptop to my local dealers who replaced the CMOS battery and advised me to leave the machine 'fees' for 6 hours [what I did], and the problem persists. Is there advice that I could follow to remedy the situation?

AFAIK in user? manuals it s nice instruction how to deal with it. If I am memory while the unit must be turned on, connected to the power supply current minimum 8 hours.

  • RTC battery is low or CMOS incompatible chksum on a new Tecra M4?

    Hello

I bought my Tecra M4 in November, making it relatively new.

Since then, I got the following message to the ignition on four occasions:

RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent *.
    Press [F1] to set Date/time.

Why is it that happens on a new laptop? And with relatively long intervals (4-6 weeks)?

Is that what I can do to check for hardware errors?

I prefer not having to send to my computer right now (reviews of spring to come to the top and from one month summer session).

    Any help/ideas are appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Thor

    Hi Thor

As far as I know is not a hardware problem. Connect the camera to the power adapter and leave it for 20 to 24 hours.
I hope you use it very often and the battery can be charged at all times.

  • Satellite A45 - S121 RTC battery low or unstable CMOS

I have a Toshiba A45-S121 that I got from a friend who has left the country...
I keep going back to the same message over and over again and cannot activate it because it keeps doing again and again.

The message is: "RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent, press F1 to reset the date and time." It would have been great if it was, that I should have done, but at this stage no button does nothing, and the only thing I can do is to restart... I looked on the net, and someone said to recharge, the main battery for 8 hrs, will do... NOT.

Another said to rest with charger for 15 h and have the laptop on at the same time... NO help there.
Another was told to change the battery Cmos... Did this... NO help.

I tried F12 thing... the computer is located in the startup Toshiba logo, and as soon as I press another key, it goes back to this message... I can't do the BIOS, and I can't run it from a CD, until I have this message.

    HELP PLEASE.

    Hanks a lot.

    > The message is: "RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent, press F1 to reset the date and time." It would have been great if it was, that I should have done, but at this stage no button does nothing, and the only thing I can do is to restart

Usually this or similar message appears if the battery CMOS/RTC would be empty.
In this case, you should be able to solve this problem of the RTC battery.
    How to recharge?
The laptop must be turned on and connected to the power supply for approximately 24 hours.

But I see you've also already replaced the RTC battery and this message still appears.
In addition it seems that you are not able to access the BIOS to change the date/time settings.
Well, this would mean that there is a serious problem on the motherboard

I think that only a laptop computer technician would be able to help you.

  • Tecra M5 does not record the date and time - battery RTC or CMOS checksum is inconsistent

My Tecra M5 PTM50E reverend new does not record the date and time. I loaded RTC battery for 8 hours when electricity is on in the said user's manual. I don't know where is the problem. The BIOS settings are respect after power is on.

When I change any value in the BIOS, the changes are saved properly but date & time system restored to their value 01/01/2000, 00:00 every time when I get out of turning off more of 2-3 min. Message "RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent.

Press [F1] to set Date/time"does not appear when I power on the computer. Any suggestions?

    Hi guys

Usually this problem appears only if the CMOS (real time clock) battery is empty or corrupted.
The real time clock battery powers the internal clock in real time and calendar. It also maintains the system configuration. If the RTC battery is completely discharged, the system loses these data and the real-time clock. In this case, the message RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent appears.

So I see only two possibilities:
Either you will charge the battery for real-time clock, or you ask the technician for replacement.

Generally, the battery must be completely charged after 8-9 hoers but try to connect the laptop to the power adapter for a long time.
If it will not help solve the problem if you contact the ASP for the RTC battery replacement.

  • Qosmio X 70-B-103 - RTC battery is low

So my laptop Qosmio X 70-B-103 on the last days have been stop, and it won't turn when I press the button.

So I proceeded to remove and replace the rtc battery and eventually it worked, but at the start of the laptop, on the blue color screen, it says "RTC battery is low"... So my questions are, the rtc battery closes down and should I buy a new one?
(I have the laptop for about 1 year)

    Thank you

In my opinion the RTC battery should not be traded but at full load. Leave your laptop on the power adapter and leave it for about 24 hours.

  • Satellite A40-211 - there a 512 MB or 2 x 256 MB RAM?

    Hello!

I have an A40 - 211 (its the Netherlands, maybe not to the United States under this code). It has 512 MB of Ram and I want to upgrade by adding an another 512 MB to 1 GB Ram. I know that my laptop has 2 Module, but I'm not there 2 * 256 or just a 512 MB and one other Module is free. If it has 2 * 256 MB, do I add a 512 MB and it works with 256 + 512 MB?
I see the AENEON (INFINEON) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 333 MHz is the Ram low price. Is this good or not?
(Sorry if my English is not so good!)

    Hello

The laptop has 2 memory slots, and it seems that both are busy! In this case, the laptop came with 2 x256MB.

    > It has 2 * 256 MB, then I add a 512 MB and it works with 256 + 512 MB?
Yes, you can use 256 MB and 512 MB set.

    > I don't see AENEON (INFINEON) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 333 MHz is the Ram low price. Is this good or not?
Usually the Infineon modules are not bad. The performance is optimal.
I always recommend the use of modules of brand and not no-name

You use PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR SODIMM 200 pin. These specifications are supported!

If you wish, you can consult this site. It shows the compatible modules:

  • Satellite P100-423 - RTC battery replacement

I'm happy enough to replace the CMOS / RTC on Satellite P100-423 battery because the device is out of warranty and the battery needs to be replaced.
Le-423 is a build of Costco and not much found after the mandatory, manual Google and research forum.

Can anyone recommend a type satisfying to do this, no clue on the former.

    Thank you

    Hey,.

Are you sure that the RTC battery is replaceable?
I ask this question because as much as I know it is not possible on all s models and if it is replaceable you can find the specs on the battery itself if you disassemble the laptop.

Normally, this battery can be charged if you leave the AC/DC adapter plugged in for 24 hours. Have you already tried?

  • Issue of Pro 6100 satellite about the RTC battery

    I know it's a huge topic which will be discussed on, and my Toshiba is screwed. I even did a lot of research and found it disappointing that my Toshiba may not be repairable, but I have a question;

When I boot my Toshiba, it looks good, and I can run normal programs (I get the error of bad RTC battery), but for some reason, the Toshiba randomly freezes and I have to stop it after 5 to 20 minutes to use me.

I tried to leave it on, as some other forum topics proposed to charge the bettery RTC and it went okay, then 20 minutes later, it froze and I had to reboot.

Sometimes it is not still turn just after that I have forcefully arrested, so I have to wait from hours to days so he can go back on. But it's useless cause it hangs again.

Any input on it's great and I'll take advice for this problem. I want the RTC battery but it keeps freezing on me, if I want to find a way to prevent this. Thank you!

PS: ASP Toshiba Theres two locations in my city (Markham, Ontario, Canada), so if all else fails, I'll take the laptop with my father at one of these places.

    Hello

If you want to reload the RTC battery you don t need boot up the laptop.
You can simply connect the AC adapter to the laptop and allow it to charge for a piece of 8 to 12 hours.

The freezing issue for me sounds like an overheating problem. This can happen because of the dust and debris inside the laptop. In such cases, cooling modules may not work correctly.
In case you I recommend first charging the RTC battery (don t need to turn on the device), then to clean the fans (you can use carefully vacuuming).
If the laptop freezes then you could try to reinstall the operating system.

If all of these tips n help so you should ask the ASP for the verification of the laptop.

I have read many similar topics with the same problem, but with mine, I can't enter the BIOS if I press the F1 key. Is it normal when occurs the error above? However, having no answer by pressing the F1 key concerns me.

    Hello

Please check you user manual. I put t know what chapter but check the battery info.
    The same mistake has been mentioned in my user manual and here the solution is very simple;
You must charge the battery of the CCF. This battery provides power to the motherboard.

You charge the battery for 12-18 hours. Leave the laptop connected to the power supply during this period.

To set the time and date, you need to access the BIOS. I think you click everything first ESC then F1 to access in the BIOS settings. Try it.

    Good bye

  • Increase the video memory of the A40-211

    Hi all

I have the Satellite A40-211. The Intel chipset also supports all of the graphical stuff, so he needs a little more memory RAM as video memory. This is possible up to a maximum of 64 MB. The problem is that the chipset is now using a maximum of 16 MB of video memory, but I want to expand this to 64 MB.

Where can I find the settings for this in Windows XP Home Edition?

    Thanks for all the help!

    Bart

Hi, it s not possible to increase the video memory yourself!

Let me tell you that your laptop is a dynamic memory management

Your computer system reserved graphic only as much memory as it needs to accomplish all tasks running on your A40.

.. dynamic video sharing .This is not bad, as I think!

More info on your graphics chip basic find on pages of Intel.

  • Satellite C855 - low RTC battery

Bought a brand new Satellite C855 7 months, now get a RTC battery low warning, every time I start, have to reset the date and time. The laptop battery says fully charged, but if I unplug the portable charger will turn off.

    > The laptop battery says fully charged, but if I unplug the portable charger will turn off.

This means that the main battery is empty and is probably damaged.
Empty main battery would affect the RTC battery too. So I think that you need to replace the main battery first and then the RTC battery for a longer period of time while the mobile computer is turned on.

The laptop seems to be covered by the warranty (if its 7 months) so the battery must be replaced in warranty conditions.

  • Satellite C50-B-19V - RTC battery low

    Hi all

    I ask your help.

    I have 15-inch Toshiba Satellite C50-B-19V laptop.
    It is 2 years old.

I get RTC battery low message the laptop turned OFF for awhile (without adapter).
When I turn it on, I have to re - set the Date and time in the BIOS.

So I fully recharge via an adapter, and every time I put it to sleep the clock stops just when I put on standby.
So if I put for example standby at 10:00 on March 2, 2016, and I turn it on at 12:00 on March 2, 2016, the clock says 10:00 and March 2, 2016 (the date is not lost).

Laptop works well when on battery (without adapter).
I have WIN 8 is installed.

RTC battery low message is displayed after the laptop is off (no adapter) for a while... (a few days).

Above mentioned laptop is NOT a pile of separate clock when back cover is removed (no battery is visible on the motherboard)...

What to do in this case?

    Waiting for your response.
    Thank you very much!
    Ivan

I would say that the RTC is low and that maybe it's the other side of the motherboard. Find and download the manual for your machine. All PCs have batteries for the CCF and to keep some of the BIOS settings. If it is not under an agreement of service of any kind, take it to a technician, you trust and let check. Otherwise repair by the company with which you have permission. The battery will be there somewhere. They can be painted, I saw that with some motherboards desktop.
