Subject: config is separated by a colon (:))

    New tab override (browser.newtab.url replacement)
    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

With Firefox 41 (and later versions), it is no longer possible to customize the
page displayed in a new tab by the evolution of the browser.newtab.url preference
in the about.config. Due to the fact that the hijackers abused the
preference in the past, Mozilla has decided to remove (see bug 1118285).
Fortunately, by removing it, Mozilla has also introduced a new API to bring
This feature to life as an add-on. This module allows the user

  • changes to browser.newtab.url about: config no longer work

I tried the user - set the page to a new tab in everything: changing browser.newtab.url config

I followed the suggestion of extensions to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1081409, but I have no extensions enabled. None of the other suggestions were relevant.

41 of Firefox is no longer uses the browser.newtab.url setting in about: config because he was constantly attacked by malware. From 41 of Firefox, you need an add-on to change the new tab page.

Here are a few options (I'm learning more all the time):

    • If you are already using the "Restorer of classic theme" or "Tab Mix Plus" extension: There is an option somewhere (!) in his dialogues of the parameters to select another page in the new tab.

Use only one of these methods at the same time, otherwise there may be conflicts and dysfunctions.

Setting up substitute new tab and new tab custom

After installing one of these extensions, you must use the Options page to set the new desired tab page (instead of use subject: config).

Open the page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a (Mac: Cmd + shift + a)
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the side right, find the new tab replace or custom new tab and click on the Options button. (See first screenshot attached).

    New tab Override

Depending on the size of your screen, you may need to scroll down to enter the address in the form. (See second screenshot attached). For example:

    • (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
    • Blank tab = > subject: empty
    • Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
    • Any other page = > full URL of the page

Then tab or click this form field and you can test using Ctrl + t.

    Custom new tab

It is easy to enter your favourite homepage address. If you check either of the boxes, the expansion will set the focus in the page as well, for example, the cursor will be in the Google search box. (See third screenshot attached). I had to leave Firefox and start it up again before new custom tab started working, but this may have been due to tests so many extensions back to back.

  • Cannot be deactivated domain guessing version 37.0.2 to go to about.config

Online suggestions have not helped, including going in Preferences > browser, because the browser is not in my version. What I need it to must stop geolocation requiring an entry "about.config" in the URL, but adds field bar ALWAYS guess www. for her, so I get error 'server not found '. Mac OS x 10.6.8. Thanks for your help.

It is not about.config by a point, but Subject: config with a colon.
topic: is a protocol such as http: and is used to access the built-in special pages
You can open on: pages through the address bar.

I guess you are looking for this pref:

    • Geo.Enabled = false

Note that Firefox will always ask for permission before using the geolocation.

If geolocation is not used Web sites can do a reverse DNS glance upward from your IP address and is generally not very accurate.

Can I change these entries in about: config?

A reference to instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

You can reset prefs which are remains after you uninstall extensions.

Is there is a lot, then you can edit the prefs.js file in the Firefox profile folder and delete those lines.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Close Firefox before editing the prefs.js file.

Note that Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them are .html, .ini and .js, .txt, so you can see only file name without the file extension.
You can see the type of actual file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

  • I'm a little worried that since about: config can change almost anything on firefox can someone use to disable my master password.

So I would like to know if some geek bozo can turn off my master password in all: config.

No, you cannot disable the master password with about: config.
You can do this only through the the "Options > Security" and you must enter the current Member.
If you would reset the MP, then all the passwords saved would be lost.

How to stop the browser from the start to about: config and how can I make the homepage be what I want?

  • How to edit about: config to set by default on the desktop

I use the Sony Xperia Z and Firefox for Android tablet. On a screen 10 "I'd rather see the desktop version of websites (always hated the web version, even on a small phone screen). I set the preference on the desktop by checking the box in the menu > Office of the application. But firefox always unticks this box every time the page is refreshed, a new page opens, opens a new tab or a new session begins. When shopping on eBay, for example, I check the box, connect on the desktop page, are sent to the mobile version, click on the box, refresh, back to the mobile version, manually enter the url for ebay desktop, get the mobile version. This happens on all websites. I might ask to office but I have mobile site each time. Makes me crazy! I need to set default values by typing about: config. Can someone tell me what the Protocol allows to set the default value AND ensure that it is recalled whenever I use firefox.

As a matter of general interest, someone knows what is the cause? Whatever it is, it does not to my other customizations. For example, I deleted all the provided search engines and don't use StartPage and DuckDuckGo. And I added the ghostery and bluhell modules that work very well also. Thanks for your help.

  • Typing about: config in the bar always results in the search results of the supplier, which prevents me to change the settings that could solve this problem to address.

I just installed Firefox 29.0.1 and immediately after the restart of the browser, type the addresses in the address bar has given rise to a page of search results instead of the Web page I typed. I know that this behavior is due to a setting in the confuguration, but I can't Setup since every time I have type about: config in the address bar, I get search results! I need to access the configuration, but this little gem in the update prevents me to do.

    • Make sure that you type in the address bar and not in the search bar.
    • Make sure you do not enter a space between about: and config if you use the address bar.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.

Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: open with) If you do not create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

If you do not keep the changes after a reboot or have problems with preferences, see:

  • I did the screen too small (using about: config) and lost the address bar and all the menus. How to restore the display on a screen size can be used?

I changed the size of display screen using about: config, as stated in the other answers help. After you use a value of 1.0, such as recommended, I've experimented with other sizes, because it seems small. I have entered a large number by chance (a typing error) and made the display so small that only a bug could read. And I lost all the features: bar address, menus, home, Favorites, settings icons.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, thinking that this would fix it. But the new facility displays the same way: unreadable and no functionality.

I found instructions on resetting to the factory settings, but cannot perform this task because I have to be able to access the menus to do so.

Hello PaulaBob, have you changed the value of layout.css.devPixelsPerPx? -You can perform the following steps to change the still 'blind ': value

    1. Open firefox, and then press ctrl + L (this will focus in the address bar)
    2. type of topic: config
    3. Press ENTER twice
    4. type devpix
    5. Press the tab key
    6. Press enter
    7. type 1.0
    8. Press ENTER again and I hope you should be normal visibility now

It is quite possible that a problem gets migrated to a new profile via reset in case the migration includes data that is causing problems (cookies, data from bookmarks and history stored in places.sqlite).

When you reset Firefox and a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, data form) are automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved on the desktop (old data of Firefox).

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be careful not to copy the files corrupted to avoid transporting on the problem.
