About fed up with my new iMac

About six months ago, my iMac to old office of 8 years started giving me wrong - it will re-start in itself the heart I am working on a project.   Then, it would be closed by itself.  Sometimes I could not start it again without disconnecting.   I had watched it by three different Apple specialists, and while they were unable to give me a reason for the problems, they all recommend that I have will not fix this problem because he was so old.

I kept it until three weeks ago, when it would not start again, no matter what I did.

So I drove to my Apple store and bought a new 21-incher.  When I unpacked it, I hung my Time Machine backup of the old machine and moved all the data and applications to the new machine.   So far so good.

But when I started using new 1 TB machine - now charged with the 250 GB of things from the old machine - I find it incredibly slow.  Everything I tried to do, to open my web browser to open a document, took at least 30 seconds.   Quite often the reel spinning arise and I have to force quit whatever it is, I tried to do.

I called Apple Care has worked a couple of times, and while we tried some things (such as the removal of caches and adjusting the P - ram), nothing.  The machine is still as slow as molasses.

So I got to the Apple Store.  Genius Bar Guy can only recommend I wipe all data, clean and do another migration from the backup drive.  He speculated that perhaps there was a file corrupted in my backup disk, or that there was a hiccup during the initial migration.   I pointed out maybe make a second migration was not a good idea, because it could invite again the same problem.   So we agreed that I should just manually choose what I wanted to work with from the disk for backup, as opposed to re - import everything again.

So, today, I get on the computer to start choosing files and the first thing I notice is that the time Machine icon is missing in the menu bar.  So I'll be back on the phone with Apple Care and the guy told me how to get the icon in the bar.  So I do, and I enter Time Machine to recover some files.  It turns out that Time Machine is completely empty!   No files whatsoever.  Five years of data seems to have disappeared.

So Apple Care Guy said it seems to have all the saved data.  I said, that's ridiculous, I'm using Time Machine for at least five years and it's worked great and I've always been able to recover the old data in case of need.

Then, he gets his top tech on the line.  Ninety minutes later, we discover that the data are there, but for some reason any my new machine doesn't recognize - it's as if Time Machine he's hiding from the machine.   All he can say is "weird."

Finally, he figures on a work-around where I can get access to my data.  Successfully download us my old desktop and documents.   Then, we start the process to download all my movies, photos and music.   At that point, I decided to go to work and let the machine do its work in solitude.  At the end of the day when I go home, I discovered that the music of movies and pictures did not have to download.

So I don't know what to do at this point.  Genius Bar can make it work.  Apple Care can get it to work.  What was supposed to be a simple migration of data from an old machine, reliable to a new spanking, far more advanced machine has turned into an exercise in futility and a waste of time.  That's what I paid $1200 for?

That someone has a few words of comfort to me?  Or, even better, a way to solve this problem?  Thank you.

Ask a new machine as it is under warranty. There is nothing more for us to say because we are unable to review the material or to determine who, on the contrary, you're hurting. I own five iMacs, which none have never had such problems you have described. No word of comfort, really. The machine is under warranty, and you can request it be replaced in the first 14 days of the date of purchase.

  • Why USB is extended keyboard needing an extension to work with any new imac?

I have an imac 2013 end running the most recent El Capitan. My brand new extended USB keyboard stopped working with the computer. Genius Bar had no idea what was going on so they replaced the new keyboard with another new keyboard. I did LANDAU restarts with no positive effect. I took the computer and we couldn't reproduce the problem restart and shutdown and reboot... so they did a reformat on the computer, reinstall the operating system and the computer has been wiped clean. Home and after 3-4 weeks the keyboard problem was again does not. So, I found this thread... Thank you. New USB keyboards that you buy now have a short extension. I threw this side did not know why he was there... I got it all the time. The Genius Bar only did me not know I needed. I thought it was to plug OTHER THINGS and not for the keyboard... so I feel stupid. Why this problem with the extension? Why Apple people ignored it tell me? Why Apple Care on the phone asked me on the extension? Also, why is the communication within the company to the customer so badly on this issue? This computer was very expensive like $ 3,000 and I expect better communicate and knowledge of this problem which is apparently more crawling.

FWIW, Apple isn't here. This is a user to user forum. Apple can do here... http://www.Apple.com/feedback/

I can hazard a guess why the keyboard works best with the extension. It can be without it, the cable is too short and shoot the connection enough to disconnect. It's just a guess.

  • How can I connect Epson R1800 with the new iMac?

Older to make sure printer, but it is good quality and I have a lot of ink and the large photo paper I want to use up. The printer is connected to my iMac plus old (2009) with the cable provided with the printer and an ethernet (Sonnet simply fast) adapter. It seems that the new iMac is a 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector). Although my Sonnet connector seems to fit in the port, I can't get the computer to recognize that there is a connected printer. Until I can do that, it seems that I can't download the printer driver and everything what I need Epson. (Old iMac died, failed to retrieve the latest driver from there).

So do I need a different Ethernet adapter? Alternatively, I have USB ports available, how to connect to the printer with a USB connection?

This printer has a USB port so just connect with a USB cable to the USB port on the iMac.  Download and install drivers from here: printer drivers Epson v3.2 for OS X.

After installing drivers go to Scanners & printers/system to complete installation.

  • Problem of calibration of mouse with the new iMac

I recently bought one of the new iMacs with the retina display and installed VMware Fusion 5 on it with Windows 7.  The iMac is 10.8 running and is 64-bit.  My problem I notice is that when you start Windows, the mouse inside the virtual machine does not reach the edges.  For example, I'm not able to reach the start menu or the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.  If an application is opened in full screen, I can't reach the toolbars at the top or close the application.  It seems as if the mouse is not calibrated to the correct resolution as I can only move the mouse in say 50-75 pixels of any edge, before it breaks on the virtual machine.  The attached image shows what I mean.  The red line is pretty close to the edge, the mouse is capable of doing before stopping the virtual machine.  I have not installed VMware Tools.  I used another iMac with VMware Fusion 5 and that you did not run this issue before.

I can do any additional download using my personal serial number to my Mac-compatible software. I have no more cost?

  • After the migration to the new iMac 10.11.3 - unable to repair permissions on your Photos App library

I bought a new iMac running El Capitan and migrated from my old iMac running 10.6.8 and opening of the Photos app after migration ended I see the error "failed to repair permissions on your library. Initially, when I open the Photo app, I'm asked to select the library migrated or create a new. I select the library migrated and then see the above error.

I tried on my new iMac running disk utility, and there is no error reported. "I tried too hold down the command and option keys when opening the Photo app and I go as far as the window pop up prompting me that" you are about to repair of the 'iPhoto Library' library but after selecting the repair, it returns the error "year error occurred while repairing permissions" and citing is the only option given.

I then tried to go back to my old iMac and did a full rebuild of my photo library using the command and option keys when opening iPhoto App and also ran disk utility. Then I made another backup from time machine fees and moved once more to my new iMac. This has not improved the question, and I see the same mistakes.

I also tried the iPhoto App 3rd party download manager but it does not allow me to open the application because it returns the error iPhoto Library Manager, must have iPhoto 8.1.2 or later must be installed. Of course when you run 10.11.3. My App Photo conforms to this requirement.

I am really confused on this issue and would appreciate any help or advice for this problem.

    Kind regards

    Brian
