  I have a Yoga pro 2.

  I recently formatted my drive and got rid of all partitions. The reinstalled windows 8.

  Everything worked well until I went into the bios and changed the legacy boot uefi support.

  I get this is now pop up when I boot.

  By default, lack of start-up or start-up device failed. Insert the recovery media and press a key. Then select "Boot Manager" to select a new device boot or boot recovery media.

  I have no support from reccovery.

  I tried to restart the mchine pressing F2, but I still get the same screen.

  If I press on enter I then move the pop up to the Boot Manager when the list is empty, so I can't start any other readers because there is not to choose.

  I don't know what else to do...

I have an Aspire M5 that suddenly no longer starts and gives the message "Default boot device boot failure or lack" and claims recovery media to be inserted. I usb recovery media and have also signed up with cloud of Acer. With my recovery media, I tried to refresh and to my PC nothing will do. When I try a system restore is gives me an error and says "you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart, select the operating system and then select the system restore". Unfortunately there is no operating system to select when I restart. I am very worried about losing the data on my hard drive, it is more precious than the drive itself. Now I'm checking if somehow my files are backed up on Acer Cloud - is there a way to do this? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated thanks!

  Not good.

  I suspect a failure of HARD drive, the only way to check is to remove your laptop and connect it to another PC with a external HARD drive Bay.

Also when I have the office close and then open the lid, the computer does not (black screen).   I FINALLY found the solution to the problem of the power-off/sleep;

  Go to the Control Panel

  Click devices

  Under System devices to find... Intel Management Engine Interface

  click it, and then right-click to find real estate

  DRiver , it will tell you what version you have.

  Mine was worm. 11 - who is the culprit.

  I chose to roll back the driver to 9.5.xx

  Once I did this back roller... I have more the shutdown problem.

Everything worked well until December 19 when my Antivirus McAfee has expired and I decided to change my Comodo Internet Security antivirus. A month back, I had installed Windows 8.1 as well and things were smooth until last night. Last night, when I installed Comodo Internet Security, the computer requires a restart, I did, and then my computer erased. I could not even reached the Acer logo at startup.

It seems that Windows 8.1 and an installation of a new antivirus may have led to this white screen problem. My S7-392 has a built-in battery that I had to reset which allowed the laptop to reboot normally. As in, I was able to boot up to Windows 8.1. However, as soon as I logged into Windows, it hooked up soon. Do the restart 3 times triggered the automatic repair/update option. That I took and returned to Windows 8. I had a Bios 2.05 2.03 intead and I had to install 2.05 before making updates. I recommend you seriously all the people who use the S7-392 to strictly follow the installation procedure for Windows 8.1 mentioned on the Acer site.

  Please update your Bios to 2.05 before installing something new, especially a new anti-virus.

  OK, time to abandon it. Pretty disappointed that, although I can find dualboot the correct drivers (graphics card and wlan) is almost impossible. People always want to dual boot and indeed that's being hit on the head - I can understand why (from the marketing point of view) but it will hurt only M$ in the long term.

  The thing is, I installed the new BIOS on UEFI mode and legacy not I don't know if that makes a difference or not, but when the computer laptop restarded, error - no.   for UEFI boot, windows must be installed under UEFI not inherited, because there need an EFI partition and the Manager start windows.

  So if you want to UEFI, you must reinstall windows.

  Yesterday when I tried turing my S7 on it would not turn. Power led kept flashing. so I plugged it to think of HQ, there lack of battery, but the result was the same.

  I found a solution to my problem.

  -> My pc with only back venus installed

  ->, I installed win 8.1 on my ssd (installed by me in the DVD slot)

  -> I forgot to activate the mode UEFI BIOS before installing win 8.1 (executed in legacy mode)

  --> the problem with the firmware update is that it resets the default bios options (here UEFI is defined)

  and then it does not find the partition no UEFI.

  --> solution: I created a recoverydisk of win8.1 on my other pc on a USB and put in and could select

• BIOS in an Acer Aspire 8942.

  I'm locked in my BIOS on an ACER Aspire 8942 and I reset the default BIOS and need the factory password to change it as I don't have access. I was doing a refresh and in some way I hit enter and it must have set a password I do not know if it me locked out.

  Have you tried to remove the battery and power. Press and hold the power button to try to reset the bios? Another option is to see that if you have a bios re - configure the jumper pins usually located in the compartment of the DRAM module on the bottom of the machine - it should be located somewhere on the outskirts of the DRAM module, so you should not remove the module.

After many hours of trying to figure out why the update failed and how to recover the BIOS and either try to reinstall the most recent roll to the other older, I accidentally discovered that I could access the BIOS settings part, where I could see the information on the laptop itself and BIOS (curiously It says that the version is the most recent 1.15) and the other parameters such as order of device boot and BIOS password, but some options are grayed out and inaccessible for me (e.g. factory reset). So as soon as now, I don't know if I've messed up in the first place or if it's something completely different (since I wasn't able to find a person who had the same problem) and would be very grateful for any help.
