ACI Cisco Simulator in a virtual machine?

I understand (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/cloud-systems-managemen... ) that this need for Simulator machine physical but all the world got it running on a virtual machine?

I use aci-Simulator - s dk9.1.1.1 .iso

I'm running it on 6.0 ESX and VM configuration is as below.

100 GB SSD

10 NW cards,

16 GB memory

8 cores

Even if get you this to install, it won't rise properly.  The software is written in order to check the ID of physical product of the machine on which it is installed.  If that does not match an expected value, the APIC fails to start properly - DME services begin voluntarily.  You must purchase an APIC-SIM-S and install it on that.  In manufacturing the APIC-SIM-S hardware is programmed with the right PID.

  • Networking between virtual machines on different hosts

    Hello

I need some advice on the basic approach to networking between virtual machines, each running on a different host machine.

    Consider the following configuration:

I have a few processes that are running in a Machine virtual Ubuntu. Call this guest1.  I guest1 race inside a real computer running Windows XP SP3 and VMware Workstation 7.x; Call this host 1.

I have a copy of this virtual machine that I put on another machine.  Call this Guest2.  I have Guest2 running on a separate physical computer, also runs Windows XP SP3 and VMware Workstation 7.x; Call this host 2.

Now, I would like to guest1 and 2 comments to make networking with eachother.  I wish they were able to ping, SSH, etc., among others.

This is where I am stuck. I tried setting the virtual machines to use the bridged network mode.  I tried to connect my router on each computer and manually assigning IP addresses to each host and each virtual computer.  When I do this, guest1 can Host1 and Host2 ping, but cannot ping Guest2 and vice versa.

What is the right way to do this kind of network?  This seems like an obvious application, if you want to perform simulations on multiple virtual machines residing on different computers on the network.

I apologize if this is the answer elsewhere, I had to dig and was not able to find the solution.

    Thanks in advance!

    Charles

Guests must be on the same subnet, like 'real' hardware machines.

1 when you copied the VM and then started, what did answer you the question of copy/move? (this determines if a new MAC address is applied)

2 view each guest and ' ipconfig/all' results 'ifconfig - a' by the hosts.

  • Call recording on the virtual machine running on Cisco UCS

We evaluate the requirements for implementing call recording in our environment. Ideally the call recording server to run as a virtual machine on an ESXi host running like a blade on a Cisco UCS. I know that I need to set up RSPAN between my physical switches and turn the "Promiscuous" mode on my vSwitch which would be connected to the virtual machine. Where I'm stuck, how the NETWORK adapter that is connected to my vSwitch would be able to sniff this traffic? Are there requirements when I implemented the vNIC on the UCS or VMWare or under the physical being connected to the span port card desired traffic will get to my VM as a controlled traffic?

    Thank you.

No we are not running Cisco UCM. We have a 3rd party VOIP solution. I think I got the answer I need... we need to order a series C for our UCS Server manage the recording of calls.

    Thank you.

  • Virtual machines communicate don't not via cisco 4001i module, can not ping gateway

We have just buit IBM blade with a switch cisco nexus 4001i 10gE module.  The service console communicates via a different network module, but VM networks are mapped to network adapters that use the cisco nexus 4001i circulating on 10gE... Unfortunately, the service console connections are working properly, but virtual machines cannot ping the gateway.  We move the virtual machines on the service console network and they work.  The NIC adapaptors are configured to 10, 000mbps but are appearing at only 1, 000mbps.  Currently, we don't have all the switches-dv put in place and run on standard v-switches within ESX, which brings me to this question: VMware does require the nexus 1000v to work with cisco 4001i?  Also, another symptom, the cisco discovery Protocol is not collecting the information since the passage of these adapters that are connected to the 4001i but take the switch info at the other network management modules.

Anyone have any ideas what we do wrong?

Had a very similar problem with a very similar hardware.  Turned out to be a problem with a configuration between the Nexus 4000 and Catalyst switches they're connected too.

  • Access to the BlackBerry through the USB port on the virtual machine VMWare

I have my development environment configuration in VMWare virtual machine, and I have no problems of deployment of BlackBerry applications on a simulator that runs as another virtual machine. The problem starts when I try deploying to the device via the USB port. The address is assigned when the mode of development on the device is not accessible from the VM, but only from my host, who do me any good, since as I said my IDE is in the virtual machine. A way to solve this problem? I can still deploy to the device via wi - fi (which is btw access via different ip - one given by the network) by this can sometimes be slow depending on the strength of the signal, etc, so I prefer to be able to deploy via the USB port.

Just in case anyone has the same problem, how to activate must, VMWare Player click on the USB icon (to the right) and choose to disconnect from the host. Connecting the USB port at the prompt. Stupid...

  • 'Fail forward' for Ports on the virtual machine

We have a customer who will be centralizing the unit with about 250 users at remote sites (4 Sites, 1000 Subscribers, they have currently a unit break at each site and want to centralize). Each site will have its own cluster of CM. I'm thinking about what I could do failure network SCOPE. Of course, each site will be fine IPT wise because they have their own cluster of CM, but VM will be declining. I think I watered but if there was a way to "transmit failure" or something on the VM ports on the PSTN to maintain the work of the virtual machine. (Of course carrier must support ISDB).

Someone at - it works in this or thought about it?

Andrew Dignan... If the carrier supports RDINS of course

The connectivity of voice mail for Cisco CallManager chapter of the Cisco CallManager System Guide:

"Inter-classes Interfaces A Cisco CallManager in a cluster can provide access to a voice mail system in another cluster, if the administrator provides the voicemail number on the trunk driver inter-classes. Voicemail systems can leave messages and sets the flags of message waiting for devices other clusters if clusters are connected by trunks QSIG. »

This applies to any system of virtual machine. With the unit, you have of additional capacity to save ports across multiple clusters so to provide MWI without ICTS as QSIG.

  • Using PCD to migrate from VM to a virtual machine already deployed

    Hello

I need to expand a cluster of 2,000 users to a cluster of 7,500 users. I tried to do that by deploying the DRS, but I wasn't able to do because the DRS estates the security password is different from the backup. I have an open case of TAC to investigate it, maybe the problem is the password @character.

So I wonder if I can use PCD to transfer data from the small bunch for the big one to overcome the Drs I run a lab to do that however PCD me does not use a virtual machine already deployed as the destination of migration. Is there a way to get around this? The big problem is I have no permission to deploy a new virtual machine in VMware infrastructure, but I can ask the priming of a simple installation of CUCM to allow me to migrate data from the old cluster to the new VMWare.

    Kind regards

    Alberto

    Hello Alberto,.

First of all you must always mention both cucm and other important info while posting something on the community, given that the procedures for various things change with different versions. Yes, with DRS backup and restore only the security password must be known, if not, that it will fail. If the cluster is still in place and launched, you can easily change the security password using the procedure mentioned in the following link and then take a backup of the DRS and use it on a freshly built with a similar version cluster

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/voice_ip_comm/CUCM/Cucos/8_6_1/Cuco...

With PCD you must follow the steps mentioned in the PCD administration guide, basically you will build a virtual machine and then allow PCD migrate existing data to the new cluster. However, check the compatibility of the versions and other factors listed in the guide of PCD

  • License VCS\VCSE of virtual machine hardware migration.

    Hi all

I want to migrate my hardware to virtual VCS\VCSE.

Both servers are covered by the active maintenance contract.

How licenses work in this case? What is the procedure of transfer?

    Any cost?

    Thank you.

    Hello

About Cisco VCS, you want to migrate virtual machine hardware, you will need to purchase a new license to make the transfer. These are the partnumbers you need:

    R-VMVCS-C-M-K9

HW migration to E - Delivery Virtual VCS only controls

    R-VMVCS-E-M-K9

HW migration to E - Delivery Virtual VCS Highway only

Please contact your Cisco representative for more information.

After purchasing the license, the license of the VM device rehost will be made by a specific Cisco team, not the team of global license, it is a process different rehost. You will need to send your request to [email protected] / * /, this team will provide instructions to rehost your VCS license correctly.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to set the vlan native on a virtual machine in vSphere when you use the 1000V?

Using the General switch original vSphere, we put VLAN native by VM by setting the VLAN 0 d.

How do we set VLAN native for a virtual machine, if the virtual computer is connected to a 1000V? I heard that is over, we can use VLAN ID 0?

Same way as you would on any Cisco switch.

Add this command to your profile of uplink port:

    switchport trunk vlan native X

Keep in mind there is no VLAN 0.  VLAN '0' is just how vmware means the VLAN untagged.  There are valid in accordance with the standard 1-4095.

  • To access the Sim Playbook on the other machine or virtual machine?

I set up the Playbook dev environment in a virtual machine (MS Virtual PC if it is important) and encountered problems trying to connect to the Simulator, which is of course an another VM.  I guess there will be the same problems you are trying to run the Simulator on one machine other than the machine of dev, regardless of if the dev machine is a virtual machine.

Anyway, I can't start the trainer inside my dev VM. I guess it would work, and in fact it doesn't (even if the error is a strange not found error). Instead I tried to run the SIM on the true operating system of the box.

The machine has an IP address in the 192.168.0.X subnet and VM Dev has also received an IP address on the same subnet to the router. However, the IP of the SIM is a 192.168.153.X. I tried affecting 255.255.0.0 subnet mask right on the Dev of VM and it still does not work. I also couldn't find any way to change the network settings on the Simulator hoping to move it to the subnet 0.

Has anyone got a configuration like this work? If so, there is advice on what config change?

    Bill

I'm currently under this configuration with the development environment in a separate VM (Windows7 Enterprise) and the Simulator playbook in another virtual machine, both on the same machine.

To make this work as well virtual machines had have their network in "Bridged" mode configuration

To configure your virtual machine, assuming you are using VMware Player as I am, in the VMware Player menu bar, click on the tab drop-down 'Virtual Machine', select "Virtual Machine Settings... ».

In the tab "Hardware", select the device of the "network card".

Change the network connection to open and activate the option "reproduce the physical network connection state.

Click OK and restart your virtual machine.

Once this has been done for both, discover the IP address of the Simulator and notes that it has changed. This IP address allows to load your applications from the development of VM.

  • Monitoring of virtual machines running on the UCS blades

We are in the process of migration of servers HP rack to Cisco UCS blades. I have 4 blades UCS running ESXi and dΘmarrez from SAN. We have configured in HP SIM HP servers to monitor hardware issues and the status of the VM. Now Let's watch the material of the UCS in UCS Manager, but I still need to monitor the status of virtual machines. I looked at existing Solarwinds NPM we have all our ESXi HP servers to Solarwinds. What I've discovered, is that we cannot add the individual to NPM ESXi blades, because we can not configure SNMP (or we).

Which means that migrate us from HP servers for UCS blades, we lose the ability to monitor the State of the CPU and VM.

How people monitor their virtual machines in an environment of UCS?

    Thank you.

We monitor our UCS ESXi 5 with SNMP hosts and use Solarwinds NPM.  It works well.  These are the commands that we send through our VMA (free VMware) server to a new host.

  • NAC and virtual machines on a pc

    Hi all,

Is any one know if when a computer is connected to the network using the cisco or the web agent and he spent the authentication process, the user suddenly starts a virtual machine with a different operating system (linux, windows, etc.) the NAC solution will recognize this "new computer" and enter the process of authentication and sanitation?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Traffic from the virtual machine OS will have a different MAC address than the host operating system. That's why NAC will detect it as a new device.

If you inband, the virtual machine will go threw the authentication without disturbing the host operating system.

If you are using out of band, the switchport will change to the authentication vlan and the BONES will have to go threw to new authentication

  • Migration of virtual machines to vSphere 4.1 to vSphere 6.0

As the title eludes to, we are standing up a new physics 6.0 Server vCenter Server and need to migrate virtual machines of 4.1 6.0 guest hosts.  I'd love to take the time to create a script that does the following; However, before heading down this path, I wanted to do a ping of the group to see if someone has done something like this before or have pointers to scripts that perform some of these actions already.  Some background and concept:

    • Running 4.1.
    • A new physical Center of vCenter 6.0 will be deployed side-by-side with 4.1.
    • The existing configuration of vSphere HA allows for 1-2 guests down without impact to the virtual machines.
    • The two environment and will be Cisco N1KV, SAN access shared for the same data storages.
    • A new vCenter will be lifted.
    • A single host is identified and VMs evacuated to the remaining hosts.
    • This host will be in maintenance mode, removed from the cluster and close.
    • A clean install of ESXi 6 will be done and set up spec.
    • N1KV will be deployed.

To digress on the details at the moment... Now markets PowerCLI desired.  This idea is ad hoc and on the fly, so as I write this.

    • identify all the virtual machines associated with a specific data store - will need to work with the local client to schedule downtime for virtual machines
    • Stop the virtual machine
    • Remove the VM of the vCenter 4.1 inventory
    • to connect to vCenter 6.0
    • Add the virtual machine to the vCenter 6.0 inventory (and once we have passed the first host in the new cluster, automatically place the virtual machine by using the DRS)
    • Reconfigure the vmnic with the new Cisco 1000V dvs (will be the same name on both sides, but has a different ID)
    • pull in the keys and the values to a CSV and advancedsetting set to harden
    • Turn on the virtual machine
    • Perhaps a test of ping for the NETWORK card to check connectivity

The order in which the steps are performed can be switched around, as long as the desired end result is the same: migration effectively virtual machines between two disparate solutions with single medium sharing as a data store.  In which I realize will always be VMFS3.  New data stores VMFS-5 is another task for another time.

Thank you for your time, suggestions, links, etc...
