Hidden after system restore files

recently taken food out of a date. I had a "system check" trojan virus, so took a day before the virus has occurred. When I restore my music, photo folder files, documents, etc. are 'hidden' the reason why I say hidden is because when I right click-> properties it still shows I have more than 1 GB in this specific case, but it does not appear. Any help! ??

Hello

Here's a possible solution that I gave to a few different posters in these Forums with a problem similar to yours:

http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_vista-system/Vista-system-restore-issue/6bd382b5-8f3d-48fa-9ABC-3792f53db945

You may also still have some malware installed.

Read the information on the link provided (Section 19 and 21) on the way to "unmask" data and Start Menu as a few skins of Malware.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-Windows-Vista-recovery

While you're there, it would be a good idea to follow in their footsteps of malware removal to ensure that your system is clean.

This is a very good general Malware cleaning page there.

See you soon.

    Hello
a program has been uninstalled (Symantec Endpoint Protection)
After have rebooted and still have problems to install a newer version, I decided to do a system
Restore prematurely, I uninstalled the original version.
(Since I couldn't find the installation files or my license info)

The old version worked again.  Now I am able to start the
new version, the old version will not uninstall.

It just sits there in a small box with a bar saying Windows of progression

for as long as I left, at least 25 minutes.

I thought that the system restore would put things back exactly as they

I was able to cirumvent the problem by a selective startup in Msconfig.

I disabled all startup items, all services not MS, restarted and then uninstalled

successfully.  However, I met another strange problem.

After uninstalling old version, I rebooted (the system was still selective

startp) I put a new restore point and installed the new version successfully.

Later, realizing msconfig has been arrived at "selective", I went and

has tried to return to Normal startup.  However, when you select normal

and hit 'apply', it immediately jumps to selective.  I have never seen it before.

I didn't know how to solve.

Instead, I uninstalled the new version of the AV program, jumped to the restore point

I did before I installed, rebooted, open Msconfig and have been correctly set up

In normal mode.  Then reinstalled the AV.

    Everything is OK now.

You ever heard of this problem of msconfig before?

How can I do this: put in the recovery cd or just make a formatting the drive with the restore cd?
    Thanks in advance
    drweekx

    Hello

System Restore is a very useful tool, but it is not the miracle solution! :-)

Your "ntoskrnl.exe" file seems to be corrupted and this file is very important as you BONE!
You can try to start Notepad, and then press the key "F8". This will take you to a menu and you can choose the 'last known good configuration"and the VGA Mode.

If you are lucky your laptop work after that, otherwise you can only recover the portable whole! But if you have important data on the NB you safe to an external drive!

    Hello

If the system still boot and CD/DVD Burns just put in a DVD-R (write once) or DVD - RW (burn
several times)-it will encourage - when its ready use Windows Explorer to drag and drop files (and
their content) on the DVD. When you're ready, click BURN. I would like to make a couple of each DVD for
Security with redundancy. These will not be encrypted and you can access the files out of them or
subsequently copy on a hard drive.

Basically, make sure you know what you want to copy the files and put them in a blank DVD to write.

If the system does not start, then you will need to put the drive in another computer or in a
External enclosure USB so you can copy files to removable media.

  • Satellite A500-1CO - loss of data after system restore

Hi all, because the system was slow I decided to restore the system using the DVD of restoration system (1,2). The problem is that I have not saved anything from drive D, and after the restore, all files have been deleted. My logic was unaware that the restoration apply to drive C (system disk) and let the D drive as it is, but I was so wrong.

Is there a way to recover all or part of the lost data?

    Please help me. Thank you.

    Hi mate

Unfortunately, I think that there is not much to do now.
Recovery DVD redefines the laptop to factory settings and, therefore, this disc format the whole HARD disk and also all the partitions and, therefore, you will lose all data if you n t backup this before starting this procedure.

You should read the user manual or information before starting the recovery. :(

  • Update and Service Pack installation after system restore

    Hello

I am a Customer Service representative your question for Windows XP. Here's the issue: System Restore will be restoring all the Service Packs and updates installed Windows XP on a Windows XP computer or at - it need to reinstall everything after the system restore?

Please enlighten us on this issue.

    Thank you.

a factory restore is not identical to a windows system restore.

While a restore of windows re - interrupts the previous versions of the system and program files

a factory restore is the original state of the computer at the same time that he has left the factory.

so a factory restore will wipe the hard drive and then re-install all software provided with the computer original.

to this end, if a faulty the system restore windows to make the system functional again, then the restoration of the factory is the ultimate option to make the system work again.

the only way to solve a software problem is sometimes with the method above.  However, the method above can not solve the problem below.

in return is that a windows system restore or a factory restore can overcome problems related to defective hardware.

in any case, keep in mind that, before executing a factory restore, the user must copy their personal files and email boxes and internet Favorites before performing this procedure.

  • His lost after system restore

Recently I did a system restore, after that my computer has crashed and everything seems to be OK except for the lack of noise coming from my speakers. This isn't an uncommon problem because I found a bunch of stuff on Google, but nothing I tried worked for me and I'm frustrated. I tried to uninstall the device from Device Manager, but even if I have it and restart the computer, he manages to resettle in any case, and yet I still have no sound. Everything seems OK despite these problems. I tried to download the latest drivers and their installation without success. Update the drivers does not work either. So, I wonder if someone can help, and if you manage to get through this, I'll save a song as a tribute for you 30 seconds. Yes I know. I'm quite desperate.

  • Disk space HARD disappeared after system restore

A day ago, I decided to free up space on the C: drive of my computer. By the time my drive was 10.4 GB of space. I deleted some old games and files, releasing much of the space and defragged my system gives me a total of 29.5 GB of space.

Shortly after, I was forced to do a restore of the system on my computer to correct an error. To recheck my space on the drive, he came to 10.4 GB. Deleted programs have not returned and after a thorough check of the system.  I tried several other forums as to find an explanation for the missing space, but most of the answers in the forums does not solve the problem at all.

What happened to the 19GB of space freed after deleting these files and old games?

  • Windows Vista - what should I do after system restored?

My home edition vista recently will not start. After I turned it on, it loads for a while and stops automatically. • No Internet connection after system restore

I had problems to open Windows Live Messenger last night, and I tried to do a system restore, as I noticed there were a couple of updates that have been installed throughout the day where I suspected may have caused the problem.

I went back to a restore point from the earlier in the day when I heard that Messenger was working. Of course, Messenger open instead of crashing on startup.

Unfortunately, I am able to connect to the Internet. Network connections settings say it's "id" my wireless network, but nothing changes. Is no longer, I get an IP address. I have other computers on the network that connect without problem.

I tried to install a Wireless N USB adapter and the problem still remains. Finally, I gave and did a complete restore to factory settings. Good news is that I can now get a connection. Fortunately, I had my backup files.

Research online, it seems that many people seem to have had similar problems, but not after a system restore.

  • Dell V313 does not print after system restore

My apologies if I should have posted this elsewhere.

    I have a printer all-in-one Dell V313, using Windows 7, 64-bit. I really like the printer.

I used the "remove IE11 update' to good use, and he continued to print well for about a month, until...

My father ran a system restore point to solve another problem, and now I can print is no longer. DOH!

I moved that pesky IE11 updated again, but this does not solve the problem.

When I "Launch Dell printer at home", instead to open the main menu, a dialog box pop box, asking me if I want to open, save, or cancel the download to a temporary file named "DSX # .tmp", where # change every time.

I opened it with notepad and this file seems to contain a rudimentary version of this main menu, but of course it is not interactive. (The home Dell printer menu is never responsible.)

Another interesting note is that when I print something (does not seem to matter what program), the printer status area is not - what appears instead is a html file called jswdialog.html. This file is apparently empty.

I made Java and run-time environment has been updated, just in case. I tried to remove all traces of the printer (by removing prints, queue, stop/print spooler, printer, uninstall drivers uninstall from compensation), and reinstall everything from scratch, right down to the firmware of the printer, but nothing will print when I ask him.

Instead, it adds the work in file print, which then comes out after a reboot.

The scanner function works of the printer itself, although this menu of the printer on the Dell home page will not start.

Any suggestions? I must be missing something, but I don't know what. My last resort is to reinstall Windows, or reset whenever I want to print something, but I'd rather not.

    Thanks for reading,

    Matt

    Matt,
