Activate XP PRO on a clean hard disk

I installed a disk drive hard vacuum on an old Toshiba Tecra 9 has and did not have the original Windows installation CD. So I installed XP pro with an old drive I had laying around the disk of XP SP2 installation integrated with Microsoft XP SP3 download to installation. I have the product key on my COA sticker, but it does not work. I used the tool to update key product to try an update, but that does not work either. I'm stuck with no real installation here, but I have the certificate of authenticity! How can I fix it?

This explains why the key is not accepted by XP, then :)

You have a key of XP at retail to go with the installation, or not?

The installed key is key - which can never be activated by default.

You must have a XP key to activate XP

  • MacBook pro cannot detect ANY hard disk

    Greetings,

I have a 13 macbook pro (mid-2012 a1278) inches and when he start shows the folder with the question mark. I think that bad hard drive, so I get a new drive, drop it in and then try to start a recovery from the internet.

After connecting to the internet and download the recovery image, I load disk utility, and he does not see the new hard drive. Am I a bad disc, I wonder?

So I drop the old drive in a hard disk enclosure and connect to an another macbook, and that is, I can see all the files. I put the new drive in the caddy and it can detect and partition/format the new drive.

Thus, the macbook can not see any hard drive.

This seems to be functional in the case, as I can load the internet recovery image and exploit all the basic functions (Restore disk, time machine, access to the network, keyboard and mouse, etc.)

It will not just to see the hard drive.

I've never had a hard disk controller macbook to go ahead without him taking the rest of the macbook with her. Am I missing something?

  • How can I recover my files from hard drive on a clean hard disk, Diskpart

I tried to install Windows 8 Preview, however, I kept getting a message saying that Windows is to not install the disk hard because it was in the GPT format or something. When this happened, a forum on the internet suggested that I use DiskPart to clean the disc. I did as he said, not realizing that it would literally clean off my hard drive. I am trying to use another hard disk and install a (overview of Win8) OS on it so that I can access the old hard drive and retrieve it using a program called TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

I hope that it will work, but I would like to comment on this and maybe some VIP tips.
At this point, any advice is good advice.
    Thank you

First of all, I would highly recommend NOT to use Windows 8 for your recovery efforts.  New systems of operating have incompatibilities with the generation previous tools and utilities - witness to the fact that all of the major anti-virus companies update their products to Windows 8.  Stay with a published known operating system.

Then, realizing that what you do for the old hard disk decreases the chance that you will be able to recover the files.  You would ideally take the disc, put it in an antistatic bag and ship it to a recovery company data that you would charge probably hundreds of thousands of dollars to recover your data, but was probably a chance of recovering 100% as long as the player has not been written to since the diskpart session.

Having never been in the position that you are in because my computer gets backed up every night, I can't recommend a recovery product based on personal use. I've seen a good many people recommend Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva) and it would probably do the work for you... but remember once again, play you with the reader, becomes it is likely that you will not be able to recover at all.

  • Re: Satellite Pro L - Eventviewer displays HARD disk controller error

I've had problems for at least two months, with slowing down, freezing same blueys etc. and eventviewer tells me that I have a HARD disk controller error. Now when I check the device it tells me - as do the dealers - work correctly, but after a chkdsk problem erases only coming later. My Toshiba characteristic of diagnosis does not work so I can't check without the use of a third-party application which I am very reluctant to do.

I am now lost for what to do given my position of dealers who fell to something I've done / downloaded etc. All the world has any ideas on how I can get my diag back function or other than eventviewer / chkdsk to identify what's wrong?

The machine is only 10 months with 500HDD core i5, 4 GB of RAM under Windows 7 Professional and Kasersky Pure as my ISS. I use it for general use at home and the little that is worrrying me is that even though my previous Toshiba had a HARD drive crash and had to be replaced - I might have to do a factory default or worse go format and just load a new OS on or get the drive HARD replaced at my expense ($450 last time). The drive is a Toshiba MK5055GSX and looking around locally can not see where we could be contained--if I have to.

It has become a nightmare, and even if I took an additional guarantee that feeling of time will run out before that I get something on this subject.
Any help would be so appreciated.

    Hi johndragon46,

I put t know what laptop you have exactly, but the fact is if the Eventviewer indicates an error of HARD disk controller it can be both: HARD drive itself or HDD motherboard controller.

You wrote that your laptop is only 10 months old then why n t contact you authorized service provider? Your laptop should still be under warranty and that means an ASP can fix your computer laptop free time guaranteed.

By the way: list of authorized service providers, you can find on the official website of Toshiba

    Good luck! :)

  • File transfer on a clean hard disk backup CD

I had to clean up the hard drive and now need to transfer the files from the CD to which they were saved to the hard drive clean. Quatro Pro and Word files. Need help?

Click on the first file in the list to highlight, press and hold the 'Shift' key and click the last file in the list. They should all now be highlighted, right-click and select 'Copy', now use Windows Explorer to navigate to the destination and click "Paste."

You might consider creating folders with logical names to be used a subset of similar files.

You can also save the effort by opening Windows Explorer twice, a window to the location of the source file and the other on the destination. This copy and paste a much easier task.

  • reinstalled Windows XP Pro on the new HARD disk, not invited to key code

My Dimension 9200 needed a new HARD drive. Ordered from Dell, installed HD then re-installed Windows XP Pro sp2. I forgot to unplug the media reader, so I had to reinstall it again to get HARD drive letter assignment as C. Added drivers in good condition and just download and install sp3 and all the necessary updates. Now, all that remains is to transfer all the files from the old HD.

Never, I was invited to the WinXP key code. I DO have the Dell OEM disc as well as the installation key code in the original Dell factory. I was wondering if anyone else had the same "problem". I checked under administrative tools and don't see anything that ask you "activation". The only thing that I went off and was invited to provide was the key code when I installed MS Office 2003. When I check in system properties, General, it shows that it is registered to me and some numbers with Dell OEM then more numbers, not the OS key code well.

Anyone can shed some light on this? Thank you

When you use a Dell OEM media on a Dell computer, it checks the BIOS to make sure that it is install on a Dell computer, then it will be activated automatically, using a generic OEM key.  As long as you have the sticker COST/License/Product Key, you have the right to run Windows on this computer.  That's pretty standard for OEM systems.

System properties still shows a 'code', not the actual key.  You can use Magic Jelly Bean to retrieve the key used to activate Windows, but the key, that he will return does not match your COA and cannot be used for manual activation.

I intend to get a new HD to replace this drive and I got all the data I had on the disk. Unfortunately, I don't have any support recovery. I understand that I can buy a Toshiba recovery media. I want to be sure that, before you start this expense, my proposal is logical. Is there anything else I need to know?

    Hello

At first, I must say that you need to update your laptop with SSD and HDD not. This will increase the performance of your laptop. SSD isn't more expensive so I think it's the best option for you.

Recovery media: If you do not have original recovery media for your machine you can order on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I hope I could help you. If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

  • Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE4E) failure hard disk

    Hello

My computer is Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE4E) purchased Oct 2007, running Vista 32 bit. He was always a bit skittish and prone to crashing. The first time I ever did a Windows Update it projected blue, so I restored and never updated since.

The other day it started to emit beeps during startup, and while I could then get into, I think that the hard drive has failed, because now it runs very slow and crashes.

Think the forum that this laptop could never be made to be stable and reliable?

The hard drive is hard to change? I do it myself.

HARD drive Bay must be placed at the bottom of the unit.
You should see the drive Bay HARD fixed with a screw cover.
Remove the screws and you will see the HARD drive

To remove the HARD drive, remove the connectors

  • Satellite Pro L650 - hard disk is not initialized.

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L650 and I am having some problems.

It all started a few weeks ago, I received the dreaded screen black death (windows could start, but then just came up with a black screen and a cursor. After playing well, I thought that a reinstall of windows would do the trick.

It worked, but none of my pilots have been installed... After much research, I found my Toshiba repair disc. I put in and went to fix it. At half way through formatting the drive, it came with an error, saying that he was unable to delete a specific file, it asked me to reset.

So I reset, and it came with a screen with "this disc is not initialized, Please initialize now."
So I pressed Yes, and it resets, it came with the same screen. and again and again.

So that's where I am. It is only a year old, and already got the replaced disk. I'm desperate difficulty, I don't want it to become a grammage of paper-dear...

First of all I m wondering why the message appeared saying that the disk is not initialized have you used the Toshiba restore for the OS installation disc or have you used any other Windows disc?

On the other hand, it might be possible that your HARD drive is malfunctioning, the cursor blinking in the upper left corner is a sign for this fault
So I recommend you to check the HARD drive. Use a tool like Drive Fitness Test, for example, it helps you to check the HARD disk
If errors will be displayed so the HARD drive needs to be replaced

  • Impossible to 'System' to defrag Portion of the hard disk on Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 Pro dvt7-3000

I have a laptop HP Pavilion dvt7-3000 CTO that has a single disk drive hard 500 GB.  The operating system has been improved in Windows7 Pro (64-bit) to Windows 8 Pro (64-bit), but the problem occurs in both operating systems.  When conducting the defragmentation of the different hard disks (C:\ D:\, HP tools and system), the percent of the "System" drive which is fragmented never changes, while the % fragmented adequately for other readers going to 0%.  Over time, the system part of the hard disk rose to 27% fragmented.  How to defragment this drive?

    Hello

The system partition contains the boot files and recovery for Windows 7 environment and should not be défragmentée.  It will always appear to be fragmented and it is quite normal - force this partition defragment would almost certainly avoid the Windows startup.  In addition, the fragmentation in this small partition has absolutely no effect on performance.

For much the same reasons, the recovery partitions or HP_TOOLS must be défragmentées.

  • Satellite Pro A210 - recover the HARD internal disk

Happy new year guys – love the active forum community!

My Satellite Pro A210 dead spectacular a few months back and being out of warranty, I did my best to fix it - diagnosis I think has a faulty motherboard (No bios loading, no start-up through external boot disks/drives) and if I do regular backups, there are always a few files that get missed so connected the HARD drive to another PC to find the HARD drive died in that it is not even turn.

Is it possible, even bother to try to change the circuit printed out the HARD drive, like-for-like, or is the circuit "listens" on the disc (even if it could lead to another Board blown) or what are my options to get the HARD drive looked at and repaired, at what price?

Sorry if this is a stupid question

    Hi bearoon,

This means you want to replace the Control Board on the underside of the HARD drive itself?

Well, theoretically it of possible, but note: you can only replace it with a Board of 100% same HARD drive. If you use it from another HARD disk you can destroy the HARD drive and everything on it always makes not readable so it s sensitive technique.
So before of you exchange it make sure that the model numbers of the two HARD drives are 100% identical.

I've never done this on 2.5 portable hard drives but a few years ago I did it on my drive HARD 3.5 from desktop and it worked and so I was able to recover my data. The reason was that t wasn't HDD spinning up more (totally dead) and the problem was the faulty Control Board.

My 4200 Pro Satellite got too hot and the hard drive was struck by who (scandisk stops at 84%, very slow data access). Is there any available Toshiba Software with which I can check the HD and get a diagnosis?

    Hi Ben,

I'm not aware of any software specific to Toshiba, but you can still use the Microsoft CHKDSK utility to scan and repair your hard disk sectors. You can access this by right-clicking on the drive icon in my computer-> properties-> tools.
