    I have a very serious problem with my laptop. First of all, my laptop's HARD drive crashed, I bought a new one, then I installed ubuntu 14, as I have the installation disc, & then I downloaded Windows 7 one day before yesterday & then I installed on yesterday afternoon. Everything was fine, that the installation was successful

    USB drive but most shocking is error: invalid product key, when I entered and tried to activate it again once I've upgraded to windows 7 & part empty left product key & then I connected to internet & entered the product by typing key just today to activate in the search from the start menu & got the following error :

    This error message occurs more often because Windows thinks that your product key is already in use or not valid for the media you used. I saw this problem where a person uses a disc at retail to re - install on a machine that came with Windows preinstalled, but still wants to use the original product key, which, in itself, is still perfectly legal.

    The most common method for this problem is to use the option "Microsoft phone" do telephone activation.

    When you call, if offered, select the option to speak to a Microsoft representative, explain your situation and usually they will be able to talk you through the reactivation process. If this option is not available, you can do two things

    1. Try the automated function, in my experience, it works about 50% of the time.
    2. Saying / doing nothing - finally the automated system will pass you through to a real person.

    When you are in the display of error message you will get a support contact option once you click on it, it should open up Internet explorer. If you are able to open IE page, then follow the steps and see if it helps.

    a. Click Start and type cmd in the search box.

    b. right click on cmd and then click Run as administrator.

    c. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER:

    Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you're sure, select Yes)

    Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    Type: Rename tokens.bar tokens.dat

    Type: cd %windir%\system32

    Type: net start slsvc

    Type: cscript slmgr.vbs - FLIR (it may take time for this will be complete, please be patient)

    Reboot twice

    You may enter the product again key, and then activate.

    I've had this computer for 5 years now. After installing a SSD and re - install my copy of windows, I get the above error. I tried to type the commands as has been suggested by some other posts without result.     Today, I tried to load my computer and was faced with the blue screen error short story that my hard drive some how became corrupt and had no partition. When it came to reinstalling windows I booted the computer directly from my windows disc 8 and when I tried to activate the key once I was ready to I received an error Code: 0xC004F061Description: The Software Licensing service determind that specified only usable product key for the upgrade not for own pieces. Means that I can not use the key I bought and must buy a new one? It seems really unfair because I've already spent money on the upgrade.

    If you have formatted the drive until the upgrade of Windows 8 version has been installed, you will not be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8.     As you can guess Windows Update is not installed for a few months. Cryptographic services does not start . CPP is the beginning.

    NOD32 Antivirus + Spyware Doctor still running. Already run MSRT and Super Spyware, but nothing much.

    Finally, I worked it out myself. But it's painful to watch than virtually any other that Uday has responded to my problem. Something I've been waiting for so eagerly.

    I applied my common sense and defragmented the dirives then sfc/scannow, and it worked. Cryptographic Services said when I began to log in as network account. So my problem is solved. Now, windows update works fine.

    Interestingly, Microsoft Fix it, says it cannot start the Cryptographic Services. Are God, while the _____ you supposed to difficulty? It made Internet Explorer icon on my desktop and other places.
