Adaptors for hp Pavilion zd8000

My laptop died suddenly a few days after several hours of photo editing. (Yes, he was connected at the time.) We have identified two problems: AC adapter / CC did not show a clear green and seemed not to the function and the battery was dead. Didn't wait for replacement order online, so went to a place of battery recommended and found the new battery and compatible adapter. I had no success the new battery to charge with the new adapter, so I have hooked up to the old adapter and now got 100% charge. (The battery is down to a maximum load of 18%). But the new card does not work and it seems to be a physical problem, not an electric: the piece of black plastic in the metal cap entering the computer moves about 1/16 of an inch, while the same piece of black plastic on the old adapter flush at the top of the metal wreath.

So I guess I have two questions: now that the old adapter works once again, I should replace or try my luck will continue to work and for how long? Secondly, what replacement adapter work? (When I looked into hp spare parts, no adapter was in stock, that's why I ' d up with the energy + TI2020.) And this leads to a third question: is there a universal AC adapter can power two different laptops hp? My husband has the HP DV926Onr Notebook and would rather just buy an adapter that work for both computers. Thanks for any help with the one or all of these questions, the world!

Yes, a Targus Universal adapter should have a plug for the two laptops.
