Added Cuda accelerated GPU effects is suddenly very laggy?

Hello Adobe Experts,

I'm a call for help with a problem that has bugged me for a little while. The best way to explain it is to show you the problem in a short 4 minute video which I will post below for those who have time to take a look. Otherwise, my description is under the video.

Essentially, I upgraded to Premiere Pro CS5.5 CS6 and discovered the GPU acceleration. Wow! I eventually had to update my iMac and bring the specs to make the most of this technology, especially within the color, correction and classification. The new machine we have obtained is a core of Mac Pro 12 2012 (2 x 2.4 Ghz 6 cores) with 32 GB of Ram and a Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac (2 GB). It also has a SSD drive as the start of the OS and applications so hoping that things would be super fast.

For once they were, I remember adding the fast color corrector effect to a video clip, and dragging the wheel around and everything would be sent in real time, the le moniteur monitor program has been updated that I moved the mouse in the wheel of colur. It was smooth and silky that I just loved because it meant that this color correction/grading would be now very easy to quickly compose with precision at a glance and then move to the next item. For more, no need to return later either, hurrah!

Then recently and I don't know what caused it, it stopped working as well? I don't always have to make the clip after adding the effect or to make a change to the settings, however, the process of making the change became slow, unresponsive, lag, delayed, laborious or any other similar adjectives. Now when I drag the mouse in the color wheel the update arrives late stages and it is certainly something smooth and silky more. The problem with this is that it is very difficult to accurately and quickly move settings and precise adjustments which, in turn, slows the process down greatly.

I am really curious to know the following:

  • Someone else with a similar system has these issues?
  • Is it just that it is? (The problem is as I remember it to be much faster and more responsive. Also I looked at Maxim Jago at a workshop and seems not to fight with these issues when showing off the coast of the GPU acceleration and adjust the effect parameters, even during playback)
  • Is this a hardware problem? My GPU should be fast or is it not assigned correctly in Premiere Pro?
  • Is this a software problem? Is this something that has emerged in the latest versions of Premiere Pro?
  • How can I do to solve this issue?

So far, I have tried a just a few things like reset preferences, ensure the GPU acceleration in the Preferences of 'Memory' tab is turned on, clearing media hiding, remove and reinstall Premiere Pro and so forth.

If the community experts can help or someone from Adobe can help me solve this problem, or at least feed back thoughts and comments, then I would be very grateful.

Best wishes

Alex

Hi all

Just a quick update to let know you that the problem has been resolved in Adobe Premiere Pro 7.1 CC and we lag now free when using chromatic circles and CUDA accelerates the effects! Hurrah.

Adobe would like to thank you!

Here is a little video to show their work as expected:

  • Receive no benefit of using GPU acceleration/CUDA in After Effects CS6

I've recently updated the graphics card in my Mac Pro 3.1 for an EVGA Nvidia GTX 680 Mac Edition and have set up so that after effects CS6 recognizes it as a compatible card as in many places, I read that it should work fine. However, I don't seem to receive all the benefits of using, rendering time a little longer, if it is not longer than before and previews just like sluggish. I've updated the graphics card and CUDA, set the preview of Ray-tracing for GPU and all the comps are set to display with the ray-tracing, but I still get no no performance gain.

I noticed that under the information GPU in the OpenGL Shader Model information is empty and greyed out. I don't know if this is related to the problem, but I'm not sure why this is. Information under CUDA seems to be OK. I have provided the following information:

If there is no solution to how to get the benefits of CUDA in after effects, please let me know.

As Mylenium says, you seem to be waiting for something which is not the case. The 3D rendering engine traced to the RADIUS does not speed up the rendering of the classic compositions from After Effects. It is rather a rendering engine to make a very limited set of manipulations in 3D (extrusion of text and shapes) and flexion of the 2D layers. Even these things are not fast with the traced the beam 3D rendering engine. they are just faster with the GPU that they would be on the CPU.

Read this page carefully for more details of the GPU is used in After Effects:

  • The GPU CUDA acceleration stops working PP CC 2015.0.1

    Hello

I encountered a small problem with the GPU CUDA acceleration.  I've been running an EVGA GTX 570 for quite awhile.  I've relied on the GPU acceleration a bit for a smoother workflow, and recently he has virtually stopped working.  I'll drop a few clips in the timeline panel and apply color effects.  Usually, I can play for a few seconds and skip a few different points in the timeline panel, but once more the program monitor's going to be just black.  I get no error message and I can still hear the audio.  First restart will fix the problem temporarily, until it happens again.  I've resorted to just disable GPU acceleration using just the Mercury Playback Engine only, which solves the problem, but it is really too slow to work with.

This only seems to happen in After Effects at all.  I started having this problem after one of the subsequent updates of 2015.

I tried to update my graphics drivers, but it did not help.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Computer: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, Intel Core i7 3930 K, 32 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 570 (pilot 340.52), EVGA ASUS p9X79 Pro, 238 GB SSD

    Here's why, Neil:

Version of the ability to calculate CUDA.

You see, Premiere Pro CC 2015 now requires CUDA compute capability version 3.0 or superior for accelerating GPU of MEPS able to work at all. Unfortunately, GTX 570 your system's Fermi architecture more compute capacity is old, including the CUDA version only 2.x (in the case of the GTX 570, version CUDA compute capacity is only 2.0). In other words, the GPU in your PC is now too old to be properly supported in 2015 of CC. The latest version of first Pro CC to support properly such an older GPU was CC, 2014.

  • After using the GPU effects

Szalam, if possible, I'd like some information in what concerns this topic because I'm having a moment a little hard to get my head around how After Effects uses the GPU in some situations.

For example, I have a comp UltraHD quite complex with a group of layers 3D element. Because we work closely with the 3D with element layers, we have the rendering engine in After Effects "3D Classic" on. Because I'm using a GPU K4200, I'll just follow the advice of Adobe and use the CPU for any trace of the rays since the K4200 is "unsupported".

So now that I'm assuming that After Effects will do all THE processing of treatment on the CPU - with the exception of the work of 3-d element, which will be done only on the GPU, correct? Then now, I guess as long as I "simultaneous rendering of several images multiprocessing" something sensible (i.e. leaving 1/4 or preferably more like 1/3 of the available RAM to non - After Effects-related work and not hungry processors), then After Effects will try to max-out the processors as much as possible for everything except the item in 3D work (which will be hopefully out the GPU max). Is this correct?

Is it interesting to use in load/no tested (for example the K4200) GPU to accelerate the raytraced render engine in this scenario (i.e. 3D only in the model elements are 3D, element, cameras and lights 3D layers), or is it better to leave it on the CPU and leave the single GPU for 3D element?

    Thanks in advance!

Right. Your scene does not all the layers using the ray traced in her rendering engine at all, so leave it on Classic 3d is the best choice. The new version of the item has "drawn with RADIUS' shadows and whatnot, but which is unrelated to converter traced to obsolete radius of EI. EI raytraced render engine is essentially an effect pressing the Optix of NVIDIA GPU library. It was just to add depth to layers. People are often confused and think that turning traced to the rendered RADIUS on would hire the GPU to make this, but the only thing he never accelerated has been traced to the RADIUS effect (which has very few people have already used).

    Yes.

Pretty much, Yes. There are other potential bottlenecks (if you use images out of an external device with a slow connection, for example), but it's like basic things will be.

Your scene, as you describe it, does not use the ray-traced rendering engine at all. The ray-traced rendering engine is just a way to add depth and dimension to natively layers in AE. Given that you do not use this feature, by turning your comp to use the rendering engine raytraced won't help what whatsoever and, instead, plu cause lead the times.

But you can feel free to test yourself. Try a rendering with the standard rendering engine and with the renderer raytraced lit. See if you can see differences.

  • pilot 368.39 breaks playback of acceleration GPU MPE of R3D files

I've updated my GPU drivers to 368.39 but R3D clips display a black screen when I read in first Pro CC 2015.2. Solution: go back to 368.22 or Dungeon new drivers and disable CUDA renderer (file, parameters of the project, general... The video rendering and playback) by changing acceleration GPU MPE software only.

All 368 xx drivers. I have this problem, you must go back to the previous generation of drivers like 365.19. see this discussion

  • Problems with CUDA acceleration and playback of sequences of RED R3D

I came across several errors and crashes on my PC last night while trying to open the first. So, I decided to reformat my PC and reinstall all the drivers and what not. Now when I try to read the raw R3D files in Premiere Pro to use CUDA acceleration, all video files are just black. It simply does not appears in the window preview or the playback of the source window. Non-ROUGE images works fine and when I go to only software acceleration, RED cheek images very well as well. Advice as to why this is happening? I've updated all my drivers and made a few uninstall / reinstall.

I work with a Titan GTX, RED Rocket-X, 2 Intel Core Xeon (12) processors, 128 GB ram.

    Thank you!

    I have the same problem.

If you order acceleration of OpenCL, you'll be able to read and make, but it's very bad performance.

Word on the street is it of the xx 368 nvidia driver. do, I have not yet tried to install an older one, but I thought it should work

  • After effects CC running very slow with El Capitan!

Apple and Adobe, we have to answer you as soon as possible! We need this fixed number like yesterday. Since we have updated to the new os El Capitan after effects, first CC and encoder render times doubled. Our workload is now saved, and we need a quick repair. Help, please

I found the solution smh... Adobe originally had the Mercury Playback accelerated GPU (OpenCL)-updated rendering engine after having upgraded to the new operating system and Adobe CC the default rendering engine update affects the MERCURY PLAYBACK ENGINE SOFTWARE ONLY. Just change the rendering engine to Mercury Playback accelerated GPU (OpenCL) and bingo your back in the game will thank me later. Peace.

My LaserJet print quality has declined. Very, very light on all cartridges. HP utility > report shows supplies all the cartridges to between 30 and 50% of about 800 pages (black), 200 (yellow) remaining. But, HP utility > supplies management says "cartridge to very low behavior. Was an update last week I think. Maybe when the problem started. Not a gradual reduction in quality. One day everything was fine, the next day, suddenly very poor, light quality.

    Hi, Will,

Let me advise you to do what follows, I work in reality for HP, normally this problems can appear after an update of the firmware more precisely on the 477 models, try the following steps:

    1. go into the Setup menu

    2. go to system set up

    3. go in print quality

    4. Select color grading and then press on calibrate now

    5. After all the sounds stop and the printer goes back to ready status without any attempt of messages to print something to see if it improves

    6. If the problem persists or improved but not yet developed acceptable, try 2 color calibration steps more and print something again

7 if the problem persists I would recommend you to reach our customers telephone support for Laserjet devices.

I hope that helps you, really confident im, what should be, Kudos to pkazmercyk for letting me know that you need help.

What is "acceleration GPU in Photoshop?

    Thank you

Please read GPU and OpenGL features and preferences. Photoshop and Bridge. CS5, CS4

    Yes.

  • SLI and CUDA acceleration

Currently, I run a X 58 system with double 680 GTX in SLI and I always wondered do I get CUDA acceleration in Premiere Pro CS6 on one of the 680's when SLI is enabled? I know I can disable SLI but if CUDA acceleration will always work on one of the cards the same with current SLI I rather leave SLI enabled since I use this machine as well for games (where the SLI) like I do for video editing.

    Thank you:

SLI is not supported and will only cause problems. Best to remove the second card and get a second machine for the games. Games and editing aren't a happy couple.

  • How is acceleration GPU of MPE is slower than software only for export on my system?

I installed the GTX285.  Enabled acceleration GPU of MPE.  A clip has exported (source images: R3D 4 K) with encoder to 1080 (h264).  It took 41m42s to finish.

I turned off acceleration GPU MPE (so now it's MPE software acceleration only). I exported the same clip with the same settings (1080, h264).  It took 35m45s.

How is it that the GPU acceleration is slower by nearly 6 minutes?  All variables were the same in both cases.  Can someone please give an idea as to why this is happening?

I have a quad 2010 (3.2 gHz) Mac Pro 5.0.2 PP with 10.6.5 OSX with 16 GB of RAM.

    Thank you.

Start the Benchmark PPBM5 and PM me the results. If your configuration is correct, you would see a multiplication by 10 of the time made without MPE. It will also show how your system behaves in relation to others. Do not follow the instructions to the letter. It is the best way to check if everything is OK.
