Adding new host ESX in VCD 1.0

Hi all

I wanted to know the procedure to add the new host Esx VCD and how to increase resources for the installation of the existing cloud.

Thanks in advance
Ashok

Add the host to the Cluster support required in vCenter provider vDC, ensure that networks and required data warehouses configured on this host, and finally as a system administrator in vCD under surveillance & -> resources vSphere management-> Hosts, prepare the new host ESX (i).

  • Adding new host

We are preparing to add a third host on our site and you need to find out what things I really need to look at more difficult to.  First time addind a solo host so I will try to be careful.  Currently we have 2 hosts running ESX 3.5 U4 and my guess is that the new software license will be 4.0 (VSphere).  I'll need to upgrade the two currents in 4.0 before adding the host or which is subsequently possible.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks for the time.

You can downgrade the license to VI3 and you should have no problem.  If you want to upgrade to vSphere4, then you first put your instance of vCenter because 2.5 cannot manage ESX(I) 4 guests.

The only weird issue I saw with the hosts 3.x and 4.x, this is what is being talked about in the article.

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1011294

Finally, if you want to have a mix of ESX hosts, you need to keep your license in tact for the stuff 3.x server

    Good luck!

  • Problems adding new host as Eval

I have 4 hosts in a cluster, all who have exhausted all of the licenses. I have a test server I installed ESX on which I want to just use it as an eval. I created a new data center for it and when I go to add the host I get the error "there are not enough licenses to perform this operation.

I don't understand why I can't do if I want to just eval this host? It should not need an available license right?

    Thank you.

You can evaluate it as a facilitator of stand alone, but if you want to add it to an instance of vCenter you must always have available vcenter agent licenses.

  • New host is added to the cluster

I took over the administration of a cluster 4 host running ESX 4 U1.  The processors are Xeon E5335.  The admin before ordered 2 extra guests with Xeon E5620 CPUs.  I wonder if vmotion will work when I add new hosts, it looks like in KB, I found that I have to change the mask on new hosts and select CVS on all hosts for this to work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just turn on CVS at the level of the cluster before adding new hosts. And vMotion works perfectly after that.

  • VMotion IS allowed to new host?

    Hello

Generally people post because something does not - but I would like to know why something works, I think I should not...!

I just added new hosts ESXi 5 of my inventory vCenter with Intel X 5675 (Core i7 32nm) processors.  They are not added to a cluster - just at the top level.  Eventually they will succeed the existing cluster, which is comprised of 3 servers ESX 4.0, using a 2 Core (with E5440 & 5160 processors) VCA

Now, I wasn't expecting to work, but I gave it a shot anyway, and it allowed me to VMotion in the former EVC cluster (in Core 2 mode) and the new host - once again...

If it works?  This means that virtual machines are still using the Core 2 mode on the new servers - even if they are not in a cluster of VCA?  Where we are today able to migrate computers through the generations of processors?

I will say that it is because of the function defined CPU provided by your CVS base is based entirely on your host target outside the cluster...

If you power off the virtual machine and it still works on your new host, thus exposing the new features of the virtual machine CPU, virtual machine fails try to migrate to the VCA pole...

  • Require a process step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new VMware ESX hypervisor

    Hello

I'm looking for the method step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new host ESX Migration both cold and hot.

Scenario - I have two data centers running ESX host stand-alone (with VM) in Europe. I need to build the new ESX host in new Dataceter to Singapore.

Need prerequisites, the methods available for migrate VMWARE virtual has new host ESX (in the new data center) with minimum downtime.

It will be great if you can enumerate the markets or redirect me to documentation that I can use to create detailed steps as the target host compatibility check on VMs and so on.

The steps are correct. The virtual machine must be turned off (step 3).

  • Host esx license problem substituting

    Hi all

I have a problem when I try to replace it by an esx host.

We have a total of 20 under license issued, 19 in use (9 esx host have 2 cpu, 1 esx host has 1 cpu).

To add a new host esx (I'll call esx11), I had to unplug and remove a host of VIC (I'll call esx01).

The result is that esx11 is "unlicensed" and if I make a 'survey of status' using license server tools (FYI License Server is installed on Virtual Center), it always reports as licensed hospitality that I disconnected (esx01).

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance.

    PIO Massaro

just because you disconnect will not remove the license.  You must go to the ESX host, under the configuration tab and the features under license.  Change your license source.

  • NFS share for one (1) added when adding to a new host in the existing data center

I'm sure it's a simple answer, but I've been beating my head on the wall, trying to find a solution. The scenario is as follows:

1 Vcenter has several hosts in different groups. All built at the same time with a NFS share that is shared among all.

    2. I add a new host to the data center (I tried independently and also added to a cluster as well).

    3. the new host sees its local disk as a data store, as expected, but I have to add the shared NFS datastore.

    4. at the level of the host, I go to configuration-storage-add storage and the NFS share.

It shows and normal with NFS (1) as the name. I can't rename it as it says THAT NFS already exist. I understand that there are in the vcenter DB, but how to add this new host or host an existing environment and maintain the name of the NFS share? vCenter 5.5, 5.5 esxi

    Appreciated all your help

    Kind regards

    Hello

Once the host is already in the vCenter inventory, you cannot change it, you must disconnect host to vCenter, delete the inventory and add it again using a different name,.

for example, if you specify IP during the connection wizzard, it seems in vCenter inventory under an IP address, if you want it to be visible as a hostname or a domain FULL, during the wizard name you used its hostname or FULL domain name

  • retired former host ESX 3.5 and you want to use the license for the new ESX 3.5host

We put one of our ESX host out of service and will be replaced by a new ESX host.  I would like to use the license from the old host to the new host.  How do I do that?

BY stopping the old host you have returned the licenses to the pool available and ready to be used by the new host.

  • Create the new host to the Cluster and Cluster

    Hi team,

Have we not document or steps to create the new Cluster and add host to cluster?

In addition, what are the post configuration that must be done on the ESX host? As switch, Nic, the data store Configuration?

Should we add the storage front of cluster before adding the host?

A process document or a step will be really useful.

We plan to automate the process and any entry is really useful.

For starters, it is User Guide PowerCLI, that comes with the installation of PowerCLI.

And there are a lot of messages and blog discussions in this community that meet some or all of your questions.

See for example establishment of data centres, Clusters and adding ESXi host VMware vCenter 5.x with PowerCLI

Storage is assigned to ESXi hosts and for use in a clustered environment, you will probably want a shared storage.

Maybe you need to split issues separate, more specific issues.

This would make it easier to respond in this community.

  • Migration to new domain ESX environment

First - sorry if I chose the wrong category for this discussion...

Environment: ESX 3.5 U4 Enterprise, 2.5, ESX 2 VC welcomes, HA, DRS.

We have acquired. As a result, I'm migrating over to the corporate domain. My main question is about DNS. We will no longer be a local AD/DNS server. Which is supplied on the MPLS WAN.

Is - this supported or even desirable?

You can hedge your bets by also adding address static hosts file entries? Or conflicts of this cause?

My secondary question is a revision of my overall plan. Here is what I intend to do:

Migrate all virtual machines on a single host ESX, ESX1.olddomain.local

Since the VI CLient, change the name, the domain name and DNS of ESX2.olddomain.local configuration, reboot

Unplug the two ESX hosts current Virtual Center

Rename the server, W2K3 VC of oldname newname, sever olddomain.local

    Restart the server

Join the server to newdomain.org newname

Upgrade old VC to VC4 (seems like a good time to do that, no?)

Connect ESX2.newdomain.org to Virtual Center and make sure that everything goes well

    Among the possibilities here 2:

IF the DNS lookups are functioning properly, may be able to connect ESX1.olddomain.local to VC on new domain

Migrate virtual machines running at ESX2.newdomain.org

Since the VI CLient, change the name, the domain name and DNS of ESX1.olddomain.local configuration, reboot

IF this is NOT the case - use the VI Client to connect locally to ESX1, power off all the virtual machines

Since the VI CLient, change the name, the domain name and DNS of ESX1.olddomain.local configuration, reboot

Connect ESX1 to the virtual Center

You have problems moving your hosts on toward the new domain, because they are, honestly, any COMPLETE domain name and not linked to or controlled by AD.  I guess that the process would be similar to this:

    1. turn the VC server on new domain.

2 confirm user accounts you need are created/added.

    3. check the DSN user account to ensure that it is correct.

    4. ESX2.olddomain.local mode now and change the FULL domain name.

    5 reset.

    6 to join the RC

7 rinse and repeat for ESX1.olddomain.local

I could be missing something, but I think that should do it.

    Kind regards

    James B.

  • How to get the host ESX DR see replicated Celerra Lun

Hi guys, Im setting up SRM with 2 x NS20 and ive got regarding the configuration of the LUN on the production storage array, Lun on the storage LUN appropriate to prod/dr esx servers present DR Bay. Ive set up replication and added the DR lun to the esx server, ensuring not to add it as he will write a signature. I've then added the production on the production ESX Server LUNs, added storage which obviously writes a signature on the drive, and with the installation of the replication, I expected to simply issue a new analysis on the DR esx host and do see the data store.

Am I missing something here? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

"On DR NS ive done exactly the same thing with respect to FS, Lun, target iSCSI and presented to the host ESX DR, ive done a rescan and his picked up the lun 'Read Only', which is being replicated in but the tab of summary in VC, I see that the local VMFS file system and I was expecting to see the replicated LUN listed with the store local data or is this seen only". When SRM changes the properties of Lun during a failover? »

You will not see the Site recovery volumes listed in data warehouses, unless you do one of two things - a failover in which case the production side will be unalterable and be removed from the list of data on the Production side store while exposing the VMFS data store now read-write on the side of the recovery.

Or you use the test function in which case that encourage a wink of Celerra temporary writable and it will appear as a data store broken in the list on the side of the recovery VMFS data warehouses.

However, it seems that you do not see this result, as DR table does not seem to be configured as it should.

Can the side Production VC communicate with happiness with the Celerra recovery site - IE can launch you a session PUTTY from the Production side VC and connect to recovery side Celerra. Can the recovery side VC do the same thing for the Production side Celerra?

I guess you get the unknown peer after that MRS. not the discovery of the table that owns about 23% forever and then ends. The only other thing I can think of and am not sure about this as a solution because it is a set of actions that I did of my side of recovery when Celerra is to create a small file system and in a small iSCSI LUN on the side of the recovery of the recovery side Celerra and put it in your recovery ESX cluster side - create a file system VMFS on it and place a Virtual computer in this VMFS file system - this is to check that there are no problems with the ESX host side recovery working with the recovery side Celerra

My guess would be a thing of IP connectivity - if it's a little strange, if the link between the Production side VC and the recovery side VC has been established successfully

I'll pass on to a colleague to VMware SRM and see if he has any ideas

  • No network connection to the virtual computer after migration manually to the new host

We have added six new hosts to our environment, and I was tasked to test connections of VIRTUAL LAN on each of them before we move VM production of their.  This is probably a simple problem, but I am new to VMWare and need help.  I already talked to our network guys, and he assures me that the physical switches are setup and working properly.  We work a vDS.

I'm testing 14 VLANs on six new hosts.  All but one are constantly working.  (They all work on the hosts of origin which were in force before.)  I have a static IP configuration on my test VM and MAC is set to automatic.  I checked the MAC does not change when you migrate to other hosts and the VLAN correct is listed in the settings the VM network (it is not empty).  Him VLAN will work on three of the six hosts, but not all at the same time.  The strange thing is that guests at work are constantly changing.  For example, this morning hosts11, 12 and 14 may work, but this afternoon, that could change at hosts12, 14 and 16.  I don't understand why they would change on their own.

My test consists of VM testing, migration manually, powering back, then he ping from my computer off.  Of course everything works when I get ping responses.  When I get no answers, the test of the virtual machine has a yellow exclamation mark on the network icon in the system tray.

What should I do to fix this?

How is the network configured?  You have a different NIC port/cable for each VLAN or Trunking used on the side of the switch?

If you use circuits on the side of the switch, then your GRPE ports virtual switch a VLAN ID needs to match the vlan is underway to shared resources.  No matter if it's a standard switch or switch distributed... you still need this ID of vlan.

I've seen the random question that you encounter if missing one or more of of the uplinks on the side of the switch the VLAN.
