• Problems adding new host as Eval

  I have 4 hosts in a cluster, all who have exhausted all of the licenses. I have a test server I installed ESX on which I want to just use it as an eval. I created a new data center for it and when I go to add the host I get the error "there are not enough licenses to perform this operation.

  I don't understand why I can't do if I want to just eval this host? It should not need an available license right?

  You can evaluate it as a facilitator of stand alone, but if you want to add it to an instance of vCenter you must always have available vcenter agent licenses.

• New host is added to the cluster

  I took over the administration of a cluster 4 host running ESX 4 U1.  The processors are Xeon E5335.  The admin before ordered 2 extra guests with Xeon E5620 CPUs.  I wonder if vmotion will work when I add new hosts, it looks like in KB, I found that I have to change the mask on new hosts and select CVS on all hosts for this to work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Just turn on CVS at the level of the cluster before adding new hosts. And vMotion works perfectly after that.

  Generally people post because something does not - but I would like to know why something works, I think I should not...!

  I just added new hosts ESXi 5 of my inventory vCenter with Intel X 5675 (Core i7 32nm) processors.  They are not added to a cluster - just at the top level.  Eventually they will succeed the existing cluster, which is comprised of 3 servers ESX 4.0, using a 2 Core (with E5440 & 5160 processors) VCA

  Now, I wasn't expecting to work, but I gave it a shot anyway, and it allowed me to VMotion in the former EVC cluster (in Core 2 mode) and the new host - once again...

  If it works?  This means that virtual machines are still using the Core 2 mode on the new servers - even if they are not in a cluster of VCA?  Where we are today able to migrate computers through the generations of processors?

  I will say that it is because of the function defined CPU provided by your CVS base is based entirely on your host target outside the cluster...

• NFS share for one (1) added when adding to a new host in the existing data center

  I'm sure it's a simple answer, but I've been beating my head on the wall, trying to find a solution. The scenario is as follows:

  1 Vcenter has several hosts in different groups. All built at the same time with a NFS share that is shared among all.

  2. I add a new host to the data center (I tried independently and also added to a cluster as well).

  3. the new host sees its local disk as a data store, as expected, but I have to add the shared NFS datastore.

  4. at the level of the host, I go to configuration-storage-add storage and the NFS share.

  It shows and normal with NFS (1) as the name. I can't rename it as it says THAT NFS already exist. I understand that there are in the vcenter DB, but how to add this new host or host an existing environment and maintain the name of the NFS share? vCenter 5.5, 5.5 esxi

  finally found the problem,

  the mounting data store I used FQDN.domain.com /Datashare

  I needed to use the FULL domain. DOMAIN.COM /Datashare

  Plugs in the name of area COMPLETE the variance in the symbolic name that caused the problem.

  The existing cluster has a connected SAN. Should what precaution I look forward to add a new host to the existing cluster? I did research that we should physically disconnect the HBA before adding, I don't know what it is to be honest.

  Once the host is already in the vCenter inventory, you cannot change it, you must disconnect host to vCenter, delete the inventory and add it again using a different name,.

  for example, if you specify IP during the connection wizzard, it seems in vCenter inventory under an IP address, if you want it to be visible as a hostname or a domain FULL, during the wizard name you used its hostname or FULL domain name

• No network connection to the virtual computer after migration manually to the new host

  We have added six new hosts to our environment, and I was tasked to test connections of VIRTUAL LAN on each of them before we move VM production of their.  This is probably a simple problem, but I am new to VMWare and need help.  I already talked to our network guys, and he assures me that the physical switches are setup and working properly.  We work a vDS.

  I'm testing 14 VLANs on six new hosts.  All but one are constantly working.  (They all work on the hosts of origin which were in force before.)  I have a static IP configuration on my test VM and MAC is set to automatic.  I checked the MAC does not change when you migrate to other hosts and the VLAN correct is listed in the settings the VM network (it is not empty).  Him VLAN will work on three of the six hosts, but not all at the same time.  The strange thing is that guests at work are constantly changing.  For example, this morning hosts11, 12 and 14 may work, but this afternoon, that could change at hosts12, 14 and 16.  I don't understand why they would change on their own.

  Thanks for the reply. My problem has been resolved. In fact, I created vDS with option "vSphere Distributed Switch Version 5.1.0" and tries to add the version 5.0.0 of the host. Now, I added the host in vDS after upgrade the version of the existing host machine.

• Problems with the new host VMware ESXi 5.0

  We have a dell blade chassis, with 4 710 blades and 8 610 the 710's have 12 network cards and the 610's have only 6 network adapters. I added a new host on one of the 610's and two network adapters in each of the networks belonging to virtual infrastructure. 1 mgmt 2. ISCSI 3. vmnetwork

  My problem is that the new host can see all the resources but I can't move the VM from the hosts to the host 610 710. I get an error because nic 2 on the 710 host is not in the same network as nic 2 on the 610. It seems silly that I wouldn't be able to do that just because the hardware is not identicle.

  I have three vswitches, vswitch0 for management, vswitch1 for the iSCSI network of shared storage, vswitch2 for the network of the vm.

  The vSwitch port group to which are connected the NICs in question is named identically on both hosts?  If they have a different name, vSphere considers different networks.

• New host, existing LUNS, see device but will not add datastore

  Hi people,

  We have 2 free with an iSCSI target each and three ESXi hosts to their use. We also have VCenter.

  We have added a new 4th host. He can see the SAN devices and connects very well from the point of view iSCSI (confirmed both ends). If we look at the way we see the VMFS partitions and different paths. The location and IDs are all the same and all seems good. But, view that we see no data warehouses and a refreshment or a new analysis found in the data stores.

  We have added a new this new ESXi host iSCSI target and can see in all the others with a refresh. We can also add this host to vCenter and tried the above through vCenter both directly on the host computer. We also deconfigured and disabled the adapter software again.

  The only thing I notice is the runtime name is different for these two channels on the new host for others, but it is also different for the new target of the test and works.

  Can anyone offer pointers? We can do something necessary to this host but cannot disturb the San for obvious reasons - that shouldn't be necessary, however, because they show the iSCSI host connections.

• Failed to configure HA on a new host

  Here's the scenario...

  I added a new host for my cluster existing, reproduces all the components of network correctly and can ping the new host name and IP address of the network and the vcenter Server and the license to the new host file allows HA.

  The question I have is that when I try to activate HA on this host, it fails every time with the following message appears: -.

  HA agaent has an error addnodefailedforprimarynode: cmd:

  AAM error - internal agent could not HA start.:Unknown error.

  Can someone help me solve this problem or at least point me in the right direction.

  Take a look at the Configuration of the host tab in the vSphere Client. Make sure the entry field (and search) in 'And DNS routing' exists and is correct (for example, a typo in).

• I can't power on a virtual machine (with linked disks) after the addition of new hosts of Lab Manager

  ENVIRONMENT

  -Lab Manager 3 using VC 3.5

  -Initially the 2 hosts in a cluster and managed by LM

  -Added new cluster with 2 new hosts in VC

  -Two bunches pointing to the same NFS storage

  PROBLEM

  -When you try to turn on a computer in new cluster, I get a "requested file" "not found" error

  RESULTS

  -This seems to happen only when creating a virtual machine that has virtual disks of parent; most of our VMS is linked clones

  -When you look at the log file, please see attachment, we found the following:

  It is the location of the new virtual machine in the new host:

  /vmfs/volumes/fabdf38d-beff047d/LMW2K3/2909/002909-T_XP_SP3_32b.VMDK

  When you look at the hard, it points to the parent disk, but it seems that it does not:

  /vmfs/volumes/6586c772-53eee1bb/LMW2K3/2904/002904-T_XP_SP3_32b.VMDK

  Please note th volumen IDS are different and can not get the disc parent of the new machine.

  You should immediately stop using the new hosts otherwise creating new virtual machines can spoil the vmdk channels. Try http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1005930.
