address book is corrupted

I use Thunderbird Portable.

My address book shows only the 12 addresses and the 'list' is called "collected addresses". I used to have dozens, or even hundreds.

I had a recent strain of my flash disk, so when I noticed the problem with the address book, I looked up an address book recovered. I found a file in the top level called "contacts.txt" folder and it seems to have my entire stock of contact information, certainly much more than in the list of the "collected addresses".

How can I return this more complete list in my Thunderbird Portable application?

I guess you have the contacts.txt file you mentioned

    Help!

Just got this figured out today. Yes! My wifes phone did the same thing. Go to the Desktop Manager application loader, software update. Click on the most recent version (5.0.0.405 for me), press Next. He will probably say no update needed. Device software options, click on settings, then check erase all applications already installed. Who will check the two boxes below. Hit OK and that recharges all applications that there was probably some corrupted info here somewhere.

The next thing to do is to stop sync e-mail wirelessly, for now. Go to contact new contact list and click key of BB. Go to options, scroll through contact lists, type track ball or track pad, then assigned to wireless sync. In this way, when you make your backup, it will save your contacts to a file with your other backup information.

I hope this helps. It worked for me.

However, when writing is called shows the screen of choice and the various books are present. I tried to remove and reinstall TB, TB purge and resettlement and disabling modules, etc. None of these maneuvers help. However, go to mode without failure "fixed" the problem but then all turn off and restart does not restore the screen. Suggestions appreciated!

  • Move or merge address books TBird from 'death' in the current installation disc?

Old boot disk was not able to start Windows 7 Pro, because 'important startup file' has been corrupted in some way to the previous stop (shutdown appeared 'clean'). Re-installed Windows 7 Pro on a new drive, downloaded and installed Thunderbird, etc. on the new drive and now the disk access 'death' just another 'local' drive on the new facility. The directory of profiles of Thunderbird on the disc 'death' is completely readable, but I can't seem to find "address books" (there are four). Also can't find the magic incantation to launch Thunderbird and pointing to the 'old' profile so I can 'export' address books. Any tips?

  • I can't find my lists of contacts in my address book, how can I get back them?

I have about 12 lists that I mail. They're all gone. The names and email addresses are still in the address book, but I don't know how to recover my lists.

    Hello, Bobby

It could be a case of file corruption in the address book file. The personal address book exists in the profile folder ( Profile_Folder ) as a file named abook.mab. With Thunderbird closed, place yourself in the profile folder and see if there is a file with a name similar to that, but including bak in the extension of file or name. If there is, try to rename abook.mab to abookmab.old and rename the other abook.mab file. Restart Thunderbird and see if the addresses are present.

  • Cannot create a list of addresses in my address book

I created a new address book. I then create a (mailing) list and try to add contacts to it. It acts as if it has worked, but nothing shows in the list.

    Thunderbird 32.2 (even on 24.x)
Windows 7 Home Premium fully up-to-date

Unable to change an address book (and your mailing lists is contained in an address book) often point to the corruption of address book data file.

Repair a data file is to export the data to a file (Tools |) Export, use the LDIF option, and then delete the offending address book and re-create it by importing the LDIF file.

In the case of the personal address book and collected addresses, you will not be allowed to be deleted in Thunderbird. However, if you close Thunderbird and open their profile, abook.mab and history.mab files can be removed. They will be recreated, but empty, when you restart Thunderbird, so that you import their content in the LDIf files respective to a temporary address book appropriate and then move Contacts (ctrl + a, drag and drop) in their favorite places.

  • When I click on address book I no longer get the slot to insert a name, instead a long list of names/addresses

I sent this way new emails (not responses): click on address book. Place comes the space to insert a name. I do, find the name (among some close to it), select it and then click on "write". The result is an email address, which I proceed to write and send. But since there is one day, when I click on the address book, what appears is a long list of names and email addresses. It fills most of the screen of the iMac. And there is no space to insert a name.
Without doubt, I did something stupid to get there. What have I done? And how I turn the tide?
    Thank you.
    Arthur

This isn't answering your question on what is wrong.

I think that the address book is a pretty lame place to start.

Click on write or reply or forward and window of writing messages appears. pre-populated with the text of the previous message if it is a reply or forward.

If you select the To: box and start typing, it will feature names in the address book corresponding to what you typed.

If you really prefer to choose from a list, you can open a Contacts Sidebar which lists one of your address books. There are buttons to add Contacts selected to your message. You can drag and drop and use right click too. On a PC, F9 opens this sidebar, or you can use alt + v to get the view menu and choose the Contacts Sidebar in the submenu. I don't know how much it works on Mac.

It is so easy to add multiple addresses. You can set them as Cc or BCC.

Your method allows you to send a new message, but does not support the answer or transfer. It penetrates into all recipients regarding: and you have to change one by one, if that is not appropriate.

You see why I think that the address book is a bad place to start from?

If this alternative approach does not work then I suggest that corrupted address book. You have a recent backup to restore from?

  • Display remote content to restored ldif address book

Some along the way when I created & export my address book as a file in LDIF, a lot of these links had the option to see the distance content checked. The list has grown the file been re-exported as LDIF to keep up-to-date

When I import the file to a profile, remote content box was reset. Needless to say that the list is growing the number of contacts to reset also.

Isn't checked by default for security reasons,
    Setting stored in another file?
Is it possible to import this setting in tact

    Nice extension.
Yep, that's definitely the option content remote allow - verified on a new profile with ONLY this extension installed.

I have to have a play with the settings to see if its possible to have the name of the exported file remain the same on each export - I can see why having multiple names is a good idea in case one of them is corrupted

No idea why you have to restart Thunderbird to finish vs not on a ldif file importation?

  • How is a email address to get corrupted?

Regularly, I send an email to a group using CCI to a list in my address book. All of the addresses in this list are correct, but I also regularly get an error message on a remote server that one of these addresses is incorrect. The @shaw.ca correct has somehow or another changed summer in @live.ca, yet I have NO address in the list to a user of @live.ca. Nor have I ANY addresses in my address book with @live.ca in the address. Where can this corruption take place?
I use Thunderbird on a PC with a fully updated for Windows 7 version.

Please note that Shaw.ca and live.ca use the same servers. Sometimes I was invited on the shaw.ca SSL certificate offered to me by hotmail. Interestingly, enough, I live in Australia, so I really find the live/hotmail/shaw thing messed.

You may have found the answer in your case, but Microsoft and Shaw seems to be the same physical hardware

  • copy the address book to new computer

Hi all. I have a Mac Pro 1.1 running OS X 10.6.8 and a Mac Pro 3.1 10.9.5 running. I'm upgrading to an iphone 4 to a 6 s more. I have serious duplication of notes, contacts, and calendar for the last 5 years issues. My iphone 4 has hundreds of dups of the contacts and notes that would not remove for nothing. So I went through all the notes and contacts and all the destruction, updates, etc. in the old mac pro (which can't go beyond the current OS X), and cannot load the latest version of itunes to connect iphone more than 6 s. So, I'm in a bit of a bind to get the new phone in place. My thought is put in place the new phone on the newer computer as a new installation, so not to risk the old corrupt Info more back ups on the old computer becomes a problem. But since I can't (even if I wanted to) connect the new phone to itunes of the older for synchronization computer, I would like to copy the address book complete, all notes, and calendars of the old mac pro, place items to the appropriate locations on the 3.1 mac pro thus having immediate access to all of my calendars, contacts and notes in order to sync/upload their new phone with ios fresh install it. I have some info in contacts, notes and calendar for the new mac pro communities, but don't mind deleting all the old mac pro news. So, I'm looking most of convemient and precisely to transfer such info from old mac pro to new mac pro to have available for my new phone.

Sorry for the long question, but I try to be as complete as possible in order to get the best help possible specific to my question.

    Thanks in advance.

You can share messages, calendars and Contacts under Snow Leopard. If you have stage 2 verification enabled on your Apple ID, you need generate a password for specific application to Mail, iCal, and address book. Apple ID - manage

ICloud - book and iCal Snow Leopard

    ICloud Snow Leopard - iCal

ICloud Snow Leopard - set up email with Mac OS X 10.6 or iOS 4

There is no such thing as Outlook Express 8. OE is part of your operating system, and V-6 is just a last used.

Is installed, MS Outlook, (part of the office), even if you do not use? If Yes, see the reference by PA Bear in this thread
