  • Malicious adware/software has infected Chrome and Safari

My exactly the same problem was discussed in another thread, but unfortunately the solutions did not work for me, so I'll try again.

I'll try to be as detailed as possible, so I'll drop my question into several categories:

    My system

    • MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, end of 2013)
    • Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    • Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    • Storage: 249,77 GB
    • Operating system: OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.4

    The problem

    • Calendar: This problem has persisted for fifteen hours; I he didn't notice last night so I think it happened this morning, but I'm not sure if I'm being generous with the timing at 100%.
    • Chrome and Safari (both browsers I installed), some kind of malware is the insertion of hypertext links on specific words that link to the ads. Each unique ad is related to the s.igmhb.comurl. The words a hyperlink become all-cap, bold and italic with a green arrow at the upper right of each word in a hyperlink. Curiously, it doesn't seem to affect all Web pages, only a small number. It does not seem to be all rhyme or reason as to which sites it affects.
    • I have not installed or downloaded anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, so I have no idea where it comes from.

    What I've done so now

    • I immediately checked for any suspicious Chrome extensions because it is generally what is the problem, but cannot find anything. Then I went to Safari to see if it has also been hit, which is. This means that it is probably something that is in my system, not only in a browser.
    • I then ran a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and it found a number of things. Quickly, I deleted the and restarted my computer. Unfortunately, the problem is still persistent. This is where I am really myself, because kicking that I should write the names of what found Malwarebytes. I just assumed it would well after I deleted the offending files. I tried to run several other analyses Malwarebytes, but they all appear negative. I know from experience that there is probably some hidden files in my system, but as I said I don't know what to look for.
    • I googled "s.igmhb.com" to see if other people have the same problem, and he's a little suspect. Best results are less than 48 hours, and they are all websites, advertising an anti-virus software. Many of them recommend same installation MacKeeper, I know is a big no-no. So yes, pretty suspicious if you ask me.

That's all I can think of right now; I hope that's enough for someone to help me. This type of adware are seem to be very new, so I've not had much luck finding solutions.

You may have installed ad-injecting malicious software ("adware").

Do not use any type of product, "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" on a Mac. It is never necessary for her, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attacks, not less.

    Save all data first.

Some of the most common types of adware can be removed by following the instructions from Apple. But before you follow these instructions, you can try an automatic removal.

If you are not already running the latest version of Mac OS X ("El Capitan"), update or upgrade in the App Store you could adware to automatically remove. If you are already using the latest version of El Capitan, you can still download the current update of the Apple Support downloads page and run it. Still, some types of malware will be deleted, not all. There is no such thing as the automatic removal of all possible malware, either by OS X third party software. That's why you can't rely on software to protect you.

If the malware is deleted in your case, you will still need to make changes to the way you use your computer to protect you from new attacks. Ask if you need advice.

If the malware is not automatically deleted, and you cannot remove yourself by following the instructions from Apple, see below.

This simple procedure to detect any type of adware that I know. Disabling is a procedure distinct and better still.

Some legitimate software is funded by advertising and may display advertisements in its own windows or in a web browser while it is running. It's not malware and it may not appear. In addition, some Web sites display advertising intrusive popup that can be confused with adware.

If none of your web browsers work well enough to carry out these instructions, restart the computer in safe mode. Allows to temporarily disable the malware.

    Step 1

Please triple - click on the line below on this page to select it, and then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents

    In the Finder, select

Go ▹ go to the folder...

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + v press return. Open a folder named "LaunchAgents", or you will get a notice stating that the file cannot be found. If the file is not found, proceed to the next step.

If the folder opens, press the combination of keys command-2 to select the display of the list, if it is not already selected. Please don't skip this step.

There should be a column in the update Finder window. Click this title two times to sort the content by date with the most recent at the top. If necessary, enlarge the window so that all the content show.

Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "take a screenshot of a window." An image file with a name starting in 'Screenshot' should be saved to the desktop. Open the capture screen and make sure it is readable. If this isn't the case, capture a small part of the screen indicating that what needs to be shown.

Start a reply to this message. Drag the image file in the editing window downloading. Alternatively, you can include text in the response.

Leave the case open for now.

    Step 2

Do as in step 1 with this line:

    /Library/LaunchAgents

The record which can open up will have the same name but is not the same as in step 1. In this step, the folder does not exist.

    Step 3

    Repeat with this line:

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

This time the file will be called "LaunchDaemons."

    Step 4

Open Safari preferences window and select the tab 'Extensions'. If the extensions are listed, post a screenshot. If there are no extensions, or if you cannot launch Safari, skip this step.

    Step 5

If you use Firefox or Chrome browser, open the list of extensions and do as in step 4.

  • Chrome browser adwares / malwares?  Cannot close the window

    Hello
I'm trying to help my mother to troubleshoot remotely.  She has a Mac Mini running El Capitan 10.11 and she seems to have some sort of malicious infection?

I enclose a photo of its Chrome browser window - she can't close Chrome and if she did a restart it back just to the same window.

We did download and run Avast free Mac Security (oops - probably should have checked here everything first).  The scan has not fixed the problem.

Should reset us the router?  Any help is appreciated!

No malware was installed or downloaded.

It is simply a Javascript in the browser designed to trick people by dialing a phone number and give criminals access to your computer so that they can steal money.

    Force quit chrome.

Restart it in now shift clicking on the chrome icon.

Clear cookies and cache of the browser.

  • Does anyone else have a problem with Adware/Malware with Chrome and Safari?

Started having trouble there is 24 to 36 hours. It affects both my iMac and my Air. Pop-up windows whenever I try to click through an e-mail and within an application when I want to read on or click on a left/right arrow to display additional information.

I upgraded to El Capitan OS on both. Have reinstalled the security provided by my ISP, Charter-spectrum suite. I'm REALLY frustrated!

Browse the list of "applications" in the finder and find any number of malicious applications. whenever I'm fixing Mac of someone who is having this problem, I googled 'virus [application] '.

    Hope this Helps!

    Third party extension and plug-ins?

If Safari is slow, unresponsive, which closes unexpectedly, or has other issues

The problem may be caused by a Safari Extension, Internet plug-in or another add-on.

The safari Extensions, Internet plug-ins, and other modules are designed to improve or customize the browsing experience. Modules are widely available on the Internet, and some are installed as part of an application or other software. If you have Add-ons installed, an add-on might be at the root of the issue.

If the problem is the unwanted pop-up windows, advertisements and graphics while surfing on the web, discover how to remove the ad-injection (adware) from your Mac software.

    Disable the Safari Extensions

You can disable Extensions Safari to learn if all are causing the problem.

    1. In the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
    2. Click the Extensions icon, and then select an extension from the list.
    3. Uncheck the box enable disable this extension.

If turning off an extension solves the problem, look for updates of the extension by clicking Update in the lower left corner of the window. Or remove the extension by clicking on the button uninstall.

Remove Internet plug-ins and other add-ons.

You can remove Internet plug-ins and other add-ons to see if everything is the origin of the problem. To find them, quit Safari and open these folders in library:

    • The library folder at the top level of your hard drive. Open it from the Finder by choosing go > go to folder in the menu bar. Then type /Library and then click OK.
    • The record library in your home folder. Open it by organizing the Option while choosing go > library in the menu bar.

The folders in the library contains the following folders for modules. Move all the files in these folders to the trash.

    • Internet Plug-Ins
Do not remove the default Browser.plugin, nslQTScriptablePlugin.xpt, Composer.webplugin of Quartz or QuickTime Plugin.plugin.
    • Input methods
    • InputManagers
    • ScriptingAdditions

If the removal of the files in these folders solves the problem, quit Safari again and gradually put the files until you find the one at the origin of the problem:

    1. Open the Recycle Bin and select one of the files that you removed. Chose file > back up. The file back to its folder.
    2. Open Safari and see if the problem returns.
      • If the issue is returned, you have identified the add-on causing the problem. Do not use or contact its manufacturer for an updated version.
      • If the question does not return, quit Safari and put back another file.
  • Need help to kill the nasty Firefox virus / adware

One of the computers in my office has a nasty Firefox virus / adware. Only Firefox is affected, Chrome and IE agree. Get lots of pop-up ads even if pop-up blocking is enabled. Many pictures of non-standard advertising appear on most web pages. Hyperlinks show more pop ups advertising when you hover over some of them. Performance of Firefox is very slow. When I use 'Copy link location' on links and pop-ups, they each have a base URL different - too many to try to block via firewall or virus software. Anti-virus AVG, Malwarebytes scan, AdwCleaner, HitmanPro all come clean. All the Firefox plugins and extensions are disabled. Firefox reset does not solve it. Uninstall/reinstall of Firefox is. CCleaner ran on the files and the registry. None of the suspicious programs appear in the Panel. Ran antivirus, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, once again, all in safe mode. No joy.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Rob

Occasionally, malware can change settings in the Firefox program files. To address this problem:

    Clean reinstall it

We use this name, but it is not about the deletion of your settings, this is to ensure that program files are clean. As described below, this process does not disrupt your existing settings. Don't uninstall NOT Firefox, that does not need.

    (1) download a fresh Installer for Firefox 37.0 of https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ in an ideal location. (Scroll down your preferred language).

    (2) close Firefox (if applicable).

    (3) to rename the program folder

    (Windows 64-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

    (Windows 32-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

    (4) run the installer you downloaded in the #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

    Any difference?

Note: Some plugins can only exist in this OldFirefox file. If it is missing something essential, present in these files:

    • \OldFirefox\Plugins
    • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins
  • Deal with problems adware and internet...

    Hello

When I started my macbook yesterday, I discovered that my mac is (still) infected with adware. When I open google chrome I was met with 'You'll find' as my browser and adds everywhere. The problem with the browser is not so difficult to solve, to rummage in the settings. But the adds are much harder to remove.

    The problems are the following:

    -Add all "Top case".

-some randome words in Web pages are highlighted and are also, adds if you hover over them you get add mackeeper and other unnecessary things

-When I was looking on the web for a solution I discovered something strange, something that makes the difference for the rest of my case I guess. Some pages are blocked. Chrome tells me that 'the site cannot be reached"and" (example) has refused to connect. Images not loading not either. Another example, if I want to update via the app store says that "the server is not reachable.

This problem of internet started since I discovered the virus add so I think they are related.

I have tried several reboots, deleted all data in chrome and BitDefender to scan my mac everything on viruses. None of this worked, I've always had...

I'm on OSX Yosemite 10.10.5 incidentally.

Please help me, I hate this.

    Kind regards

    Stig W.

BitDefender is useless, you can uninstall it.

Guide of Mac Malware: How can I protect myself?  http

  • Why doesn't my Gmail account? Most of my contacts isn't here, why? Gmail works fine on Google Chrome!

Comes in a different format (see)
Most of my contacts is not there.
    My email groups aren't there.
    My google calendar isn't here.
    My google phone isn't here.
Cannot access the settings, as described in using google.
    Everything worked properly last week.
Everything works fine in google chrome.
Everything works fine on Internet Explorer.

Hello Lippman, your useragent (information, the browser sends to websites to identify its version) - apparently by mistake - shows you're on firefox version 3.6 (which is very outdated so google will probably offer a reduced feature set). some kind of adware or toolbar crushed it.

Please refer to this article to reset the settings of the user agent in firefox: websites say that Firefox is obsolete or incompatible, even if it's the latest version

You can also try resetting firefox...

  • Adware has hijacked Firefox can't find it in extension, or programs. It is Dejvu IE 6 all over again

I did a cleaning with Adware remover, malwarebytes, Spybot search and destroy.
    Nothing I can find.
I was infected by offer4u and malware of similar product that kept showing offers and other products when I was on a commercial Web site.

EVEN this does not show anywhere, it was not in the programs. He moved somehow in hidden firefox.
Even my firefox start page has been hijacked and the search for something I do not remember.

All this has allowed out. But the other day I still have the Offer4u popup. I disabled it for always the have not seen since.

Now, whenever I visit a site, it is redirected to this url.
    http://API.pitlap.info/v1/users/wMfSaZPIqrU=/tips.JSON?where_created=SG & api_key = da4b9237bacccdf19c0760cab7aec4a8359010b0 & secret = eb3e8ac05132bbaeb79f6e8eb53b67e753d79da3 & pr = 1 & bring_info = 0 & method = post & url = http://www.tienda.com/?affid=cj
This is the exact url to tienda.com
As you can see, when I visit a site, he's trying to reload this page with a particular reference id.

I can't find it anywhere and nothing can remove it.
His is a huge firefox security hole, I'm sure. So it is not detected as an adware.

It is difficult to go yet as the reference ID and the URLS are false and he ends up redirecting to the home page.

Yes, I know that I can reinstall firefox to a scratch, but it will be for all the extension back pain once again.

How did become FIrefox like IE. It's dejavu. It seems the right time to spend in chrome.

There seems to be no support or any person recognizing this question in the forums. It seems that no one is disturbed

Have you checked your list of extensions Firefox Safe mode? This disables the ability of the extensions to hide in the page modules.

Something custom in your connection settings? You can check here:

the button Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) > Options > advanced > tab mini network > button "settings".

The default value is "Use system proxy settings" (adopted IE settings); you could also try 'no proxy '.

If you do not have an extension or a proxy, the cause, you may drain your Firefox program folder and reinstall Firefox. Note: do not uninstall Firefox or delete your settings, it's about the program folder.

    Clean reinstall it

The process is: rename the program folder, and then reinstall Firefox. In this process, the installer of Firefox should recognize and automatically connect with your existing profiles.

(Still, it may be a good idea to make a backup. This article offers suggestions: back up and restore the information contained in the profiles Firefox.)

You can download the installer for Firefox 27.0.1 here:

https://www.Mozilla.org/Firefox/all/ (scroll down to your language)

Then, after the release of Firefox, rename the folder

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

    something like

    C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

    Then run the installation program.

    Any improvement?

Note that some plugins and extensions installed in the program folder. You can check out them later if you discover their lack, but to minimize contamination, please not bulk copy these files.

Regarding the opening of a new topic, you can always start a new question by using the "Ask a Question" at the top of the page.

It's demand to have the strongest anti-malware built into Firefox? Currently, the phishing and malware protection is limited to what Google is willing to offer and it offers not the same list for users of Firefox to Chrome users. Further, Mozilla plans to add more services to the browser. The question is if something is better free or that he would need to be a paid service, in this case, use commercial antivirus software could be better than to have a Firefox solution only.

  • Adware/Malware on Mac Air

    Hey,.

Unfortunately I picked up some adware/malware, but I can't locate the source of it on my computer. I have found no extensions or plug-ins in any of my browsers, but the Adware/Malware is injected into the three (Safari, Chrome and Mozilla). I don't remember downloading programs in the last days (the problem is recent), but it slows down my mac.

I tried to re - install OS X but it it has not erased. I have searched through the launch folder & deleted all files .plist, restarted and noticed that they have been removed, but as soon as I log in the browsers I am spammed by pop-up/ad links! I don't know what else to do? Someone at - it ideas?

    I use a MacBook (13-inch, early 2015) Air, 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD 6000 1536 MB graphics card.

    Thank you!

Download and run MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our colleagues here to ASC. He received rave reviews and is on the more proven anti-malware for Mac software.

  • Download FF that Chrome has integrated bugs, then when I import bookmarks in FF do I also import cookies and browsing history, don't want to import bugs?

Bugs in Chrome are in the form of extensions that will not remove or return when I remove them. General Council is to use firefox and Chrome which I am happy to provide. Don't want bugs coming from good chrome.

Hello, Lugano, import your cookies or history of chrome Firefox won't these kinds of disorders. the symptoms as you described could also be a sign of adware/malware on your system assets - please run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner.

Fix Firefox problems caused by malicious software

  • When I opened a new tab "chrome://lightning/content/newtab.html" appears automatically. I tried in safe mode without success.

When I opened a new tab "chrome://lightning/content/newtab.html" appears automatically. I tried in safe mode without success.

Hello unparadomas, try this to reset the page to the new tab manually: enter Subject: config in the bar firefox address (confirm the message information where it appears) & get preference named browser.newtab.url - right click and restore the default value for that entry.

You can also run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that this change was not caused by adware or that it is present in other parts of the system as well.

Fix Firefox problems caused by malicious software

  • Continuing to malware / adware problem

    Hello

I have finally upgraded to El Capitan at last week. I had no problem until today when I downloaded a new Java Update, which I think may have also installed some sort of adware / malware on my system. Since the installation of new advertising tabs open (on both Firefox and Safari) when I click on some normal links on some sites. I also see underlined green links ad on some pages.

I tried all the tips I can find online, including of Malwarebytes, Avast, reinstall browsers, try a new user, follow the instructions to remove "DownLite" etc. I also checked the LaunchAgent and LaunchDaemons folders in my library, and they seem to be something unusual.

Any help with this would be much appreciated because it becomes extremely frustrating Apple have advised me to reinstall OS X, but I would try other options first as it may seem a bit drastic!

    Thank you very much

    Tomai

You may have installed ad-injecting malicious software ("adware").

Do not use any type of product, "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" on a Mac. You have already seen that it does not work.

    Save all data first.

If you are not already running the latest version of Mac OS X, update or upgrade in the App Store you risk adware remove automatically. If you are already using the latest version, please log off or restart the computer.

If the malware is not removed automatically, see below.

The malware will be disabled temporarily.

  • Check for the presence of malware/adware/spyware software

I'm currently looking if I have no malware/adware/spyware on my computer. I followed the steps on the other discussions as removing the. Agent.plist and other daemon.plist. Right now I don't see any symptoms (such as force redirection Web site or just completely frozen screen) but I don't know if there is nothing else left. Could someone there check it please for me? Thank you!
