(I had changed and reduced the amount of updates installed to shorten the waiting time for results)  When I went to install several updates, it did not.  I ran the Fix - It again and lost all facilities.  After a few attempts, Fix - It is not helping.

  Then I went through this series (a few ideas from another thread of discussion, rest are mine).

  I cleaned the computer - clean disk, then my regular analysis of McAfee, then tried Malawarebytes program (nothing was found by any program scans, fyi) and then defragment the drive.

  After that, several Windows updates appeared.  I installed Windows, not Microsoft software updates only those related to programming (I think that's what I did.)

  And then install it worked and have stayed.  I'll check for another batch of updates installed as I imagine that there must be more, because I lost all the others who were there before the Fix - It.

  I don't really know what the sequence preceding really helped and enabled the victory. Update service works.  But it's good for now.
