After restart of 2 of our servers ESX 3.5 - 110268 the console or VMS are inaccessible

Hi all

We've had this problem for a year now, and we assume that when we fixed a server that was causing the problem in these two places (Singapore and London).   However, we have since discovered that just reboot the server causes as well.   So I'll try to find a solution if we do not have to have the car of people for hours to get physically on the server to resolve the problem.   I wish the problem more in detail now.

In London, we have an HP Proliant DL380 G3, with a NETWORK NC7781 card, which has 2 ports (vmnic0 and vmnic1) connected to vSwitch0 (which is the Port of the VM - DataCenterLAN)

In Singapore, we have an HP Proliant DL 380 G4, with a NETWORK NC7782 card, which has a port (vmnic5) connected to vSwitch4 (which is the Service Console Port - Legacy eth0)

During the reboot of these machines are for some reason, the tg3 driver does not load properly and causes the switches above to lose the connection.   In London, I can at least PuTTY in and solve the problem, but to Singapore, it's the Console port that breaks down, making it impossible for me to connect, so get hold of local people, and they can take less 2 hours and up to a few days to get there.

What I have to do is run the following commands

esxcfg-module d tg3

esxcfg-module e - tg3

vmkload_mod u tg3

vmkload_mod tg3

in London I can go to VIC - Configuration - networking and readd the vmnic on the Virtual Machine Port

In Singapore, I have the most local support to run these 2 commands as well.

esxcfg-vswitch - L vmnic5 vSwitch4

and then

esxcfg-vswitch - M eth0 vSwitch4 Legacy\ Pei vmnic5

Why is happening.    We have a few other machines that I expect to have the same problem, based on the type of computer and network cards, but they did not.   The only thing these two have in common is that they are both among the first ESX boxes, we have deployed and they have been upgraded to version 2.5.2 and 2.5.3.   We had 2 other machines that have been in our Dev environment which were identical, but they did not have this problem, but they are local to us and not in another country and one-third of the way around the world.

If there is not a direct solution, is there a way to put something in place so that the controls can run on startup or reboot?

Thank you

Steven Stuart

If nothing else, you can put orders in /etc/rc.local as if entered you them in the command line.  It will keep you in suspense when / if another number arrises.  If you have the time, it may be interesting a relocation for strange topics such as this one.

    original title: Auto Adjust

    Hello.

Whenever we start to use our computer, the screen goes black and the message 'Auto adjust is in Prgress'. Then, all of our screen is small and all the icons and pages are smaller than before.

I tried restoring the system that works and that gets our screen back to normal but every day that this Auto setting is coming and we can't seem to stop it.

Any help would be appreciated... Thank you

    Try this:

Go to the Web site of the manufacturer of your laptop computer-graphics/computer card > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > look for the latest Vista drivers > download/install them.

    Then:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Windows-Vista/change-screen-resolution

    Change the screen resolution

Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images on your screen. At higher resolutions, items appear sharper. They appear also smaller, so more items adapted to the screen. At lower resolutions, fewer items adapted to the screen, but they are larger and easier to see. At very low resolutions, however, images may have serrated edges.

  • Why VMS are inaccessible after change of data store?

    Hello

I have two ESX 3.5 running servers that share two disks of SAN. I moved files VM of all virtual machines of a SAN disk to another disk of SAN using vCenter server. After you move these files, I am unable to work with virtual machines (unable to start virtual machines). I rebooted an ESX Server after you move the files from the virtual computer. In vCenter server, I can see that virtual machines are inaccessible. I have attached the screenshot of the vCenter client application.

For the other ESX Server (which I have not re started after moving the VM files) VM is available, but if I try to start this virtual machine, I get an error saying

*' A general error occurred: the system returned an error. " Communication with the computer may have been interrupted. » *

I am also attaching the screenshot of this error.

When I installed ESX Server for the first time, I had created virtual machines on ESX Server's hard drive only. After that, I moved files VM to ESX from disc to disc shared in SAN.

    Anyone know what's the problem?

Inaccessible VM may be due to different reasons. So, it depends on how you migrated virtual machine between the data store. If vmx and vmdk files are not accessible from storage, then you see this error message. Otherwise, check that all the files on a virtual computer has been moved to the single data store and there is no file delta left behind. This happens if the migration is not complete.

If you see a delta file, then clone a new vmdk with "vmkfstools-i" and fix it with VM and try again to power.

  • Unable to connect to the console of the virtual computer after dns change

I finished just change of my VM and VC servers esx hosts to use the new dns servers. In addition the area changed as follows

from vm1.subdom1.xxx.com to vm1.subdom2.xxx.com the esx hosts and vCenter server all underwent this change at the same time although ip addresses have remained the same.

In vCenter but I do not see "cannot connect to MKS: address for server vm1subdom1.xxx.com host lookup failed: no host is unknown.»

If I log into the esx vSphere Client with server can't connect to the console where I can say vCenter to use the new name of the virtual machine instead of the old host? I can ping and resolve the vm from the vCenter server and RDP to DNS so it works but vCenter is still going to the old address.

    Any help?

To access the Console of the virtual machines... the vCenter does not really rely on the DNS config. It communicates only through ports 902/903

This problem could have arisen due to some misconfig while changing the DNS... .pls try below

Remove and re-add the vCenter ESX Server

Restart the ESX management services... #Service mgmt-vmware restart

  • The "Console" tab fails on servers on a host ESX Server 3.5.0

    Hello

On one of our server VMware ESX 3.5.0 123630 hosts, I get an error message when I try to use the "Console" tab on the servers located on the ESX Server.

The error message "unable to connect to the host esx006.sb.local: a connection attempt fails, because the connected party did not properly after a period or the connection failed because the connected host has failed."

This ESX Server is configured as all the other ESX servers in our environment, so I don't understand why it does not work on the ESX Server.

I have no problems connecting to the ESX Server and I have no problems connecting to servers through the mstsc.

I have the following VMware Infrastructure customers installed on my computer:

    -VMware Infrastructure Client 2.5

    -VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client 2.0

    -VMware vSphere Client 4.1

To connect to the above mensioned ESX Server, I use the client "VMware Infrastructure Client, Version 2.5.0 Build 147704".

Can you help me solve this mystery?

  • Three servers esx or two esx servers?

We currently have three esx (dual dual-core, 16 GB) servers that are connected to a network of Hitachi SAN. We are trying to replace these servers with replacements and we have two options to meet our requirements about 12 GHz of CPU and 64 GB. We run around 20 virtual machines that are a combination of windows servers running exchange and file and print and redhat running oracle and jboss.

Option 1: 2 x superiors servers dual QuadCore with 32 GB each

Option 2: 3 x lower servers dual QuadCore with 24 GB each

Both servers are the same model but different specifications, one is a high-end server. Three servers operate at about 20% cheaper.

We will reuse the FC HBA, we have already three ESX licenses and we manage servers using VC, so there is no additional cost to the three servers (except the maintenance cost each year on an esx server).

    The advantages I see to have three servers are;

    • 12 hearts as opposed to 8 cores

    • redundancy n + 2 for base servers

    • 66% of capacity left after a failure instead of 50%

    • servers cheaper and cheaper maintenance as collateral can be reduced by one day to the next

    • more easy upgrades to new versions of esx server can be taken offline and still leave redundancy

    • bandwidth of 50% has increased to SAN

    • bandwidth increased by 50% to network (18 versus 12 NIC NIC

I really don't see any downsides to having three servers?

My boss however like the idea of two servers and I need to convince him, if anyone has information that would help in my case I'd be very happy.

On the surface, it's easy to say, come on 3 Server... as you well pointed out the technical benefits. However, it is easy to underestimate the cost of this 3rd server. Of course, you have a sunk cost in the Vmware licensing, but you again year 2 and 3 cost. It is the same with the server, support costs for 3 years, power and cooling for another 3 years etc.

This probably isn't a huge number, but your boss is probably thinking in this direction. Maybe you need to hit a quick worksheet to calculate these costs, and then compare these costs and benefits that you mentioned. Until you do this, your boss will probably have his way

I would focus on availability and additional capabilities. Capacity is easy to align costs, so start there. The availability is important, but more difficult to quantify.

    Good luck.

  • VMkernel no longer works after restart

    Hello

I have some problems using VMotion.

    Here is our configuration:

    -2 servers ESX Infrastructure 3.5;

    -on each server, we have 2 redundant interfaces (was and B) for the default network connection (iSCSI + VMs: she will be cut in half later with another network card);

    -on each server, we have 2 redundant (C and D) interfaces for VMotion which are connected directly to another ESX;

    -2 servers are added to a data center with vCenter (HA and DRS active);

-as a result, on each server, we have a virtual switch with a VMkernel and the default network Service Console (0: hasB) and another for VMotion (1: CD).

Our problem is the following. When restart us one or two servers the VMkernel does not work anymore. Both servers ping between them on the interface of VMotion, but vmkping does not work. Finally, remove us the vSwitch1 and recreate it with the same breaks randomly on one of the parameters, and it seems to fix the problem.

We tried to repeat the same scenario several times and we get the same problem each time.

We look at /var/log/boot.log and/var/log/vmkernel and, for us, there is no problem.

    Any idea?

1 test = Test VMotion with own vswitch and 1 NIC (two guests)

I would start by removing the vSwitch1 and all groups of associated ports.  Create a new vswitch.  Under this vswitch, create a port vkernel group.  Call the VMotion (just to identify him only).  Select the vmotion on it.  Add only vmnic2 to the vswitch.  Hardcode than NIC to 1000 Full.   If this configuration works, you're laughing.  Add the second group of ports for the "Service Console 2" and test again.  If adding the vmnic1 it breaks, it is the cause.  I would start by following these recommendations, rather than simply remove the network card.

I guess "vMotion Service Console" is your second service console for redundancy HA...  Take it out at the moment.  Simply your installer for troubleshooting.  Use only a NIC personally, I don't like to create links with different cards.

Test 2 is the question of routing/network vmkernel Test.

The vmkernel to the VMKernel default gateway allows NetAppcommunications in and out of the ESX host.  The VMotion uses cross over cables.  If these two elements are in conflict, it may be the cause of the problem.  Can you connect to the network instead of a direct cross your vmotion over cables?  The vmotion network connects to should be able to use the same default gateway of vmkernel as NetApp.

Start with a simple config.  If you can provide a simpler configuration for the virtual machine as local storage disks and remove the NetApp, it would be useful to remove the question from the vmkernel trace.  Today, I do not use NetApp.  The configured vmkernel is used for vmotion and the default gateway is the same IP address as the Group of ports of vmotion.  Yes = 10.0.0.23 vmotion, def vmkernel gw is 10.0.0.23.

  • There is no volume after restarting the device. Need urgent help

    Hello.

Our ReadyNAS RN31600 iSCSI target device. We have (had) two LUNS of 8 terabytes each built on X - RAID 5, which are presented on a Windows Server.

This device is less than a year, and he began to have problems today. First two LUNS disappeared from the iSCSI (WS 2008 R2) client. When we tried to restart the NAS server, he's hanging on "restart now, see you soon."

We power off of the switch and after restarting, two LUNS seem to have disappeared, and the unit is empty somehow? How to solve this problem? Or is it quite normal on the Netgear devices to suddenly lose 16 terabytes of data?

The GUI shows "there is no volume" and also "delete inactive volumes using disk. Disc # 1,2,3,4,5,6 ". This means that all the disks.

    Firmware is 6.4.0.

And no, we don't have backups, because this device is used to a backup unit.

I suggest you to contact support (support.netgear.com), because I think it will be faster than from here.

  • mini h710p forget right SATA raid after restart?

    Hello

I have trouble adding a new hard drive in my existing server. My server is R720 and with 2 virtual disk (the two 3-drive raid 5, HDD SAS)

I just want to add a SATA hard drive, so I inserted the disc at the front and Ctrl-R in the raid configuration, press F2 to create new VD and add the disk, check the initialization, and after clicking ok system the initization is completed as in 2 seconds. It all seems normal. And I pressed the ESC key to exit, System told me to Ctrl-Alt-Del... OK, very good.

However, after the restart in the startup message Raid card, it says that my newly created VD02 doesn't have the drive and will be inadequate. The exact message is:

The following virtual disks are missing: 02 If you continue (or load the configuration utility), these virtual disks will be deleted from your configuration. If you want to use them later, they will have to be imported. If you believe that these virtual disks should be present, please turn off your system and check your cables to ensure all disks are present. Press any key to continue, or 'C' to load the configuration utility.

Tried updating raid card to the latest firmware (21.3.2 - 0005), to build a raid 1 with a SATA 2 drive instead of one, replace the hard disk, build the raid using raid tool in the bios, all with the same result.

I have not installed any kind of dell openmanage.

Tried a blink and unblink disc, there is no problem. And of course I unplug the disc after the reboot.

I have once again, read the instructions and see that SAS & SATA drives are supported simultaineously, as long as they are not in the same virtual disk. What did I miss? Any help is appreciated.

It is certainly the case. Probably more so now then years... and for different reasons.

Company leads to meet SATA or SAS standards and increasingly being designed to run 24 x 7, are designed to react differently to the controllers and behave differently with regard to the maintenance of data in redundancy (standalone vs) environment.

EACH disc is designed for a specific purpose these days - some for storage of low power in a NAS capability, some to access high-performance RAID arrays, some for use Office/casual consumer, some for quick access to the database, others for a slower archival capacity. A bit of research necessary to make sure that you have the good tech for the good work. Use the Server grows in servers, NAS NAS drives, disks of desktop/laptop computer in desktop computers / cell phones, etc.

Using a player from the server as a stand-alone drive in a laptop Desk/computer is as bad to use a portable office/computer in a server... you may lack of reliability and the potential loss of data.

  • Push does not not after restarting the device?

So we have successfully implemented BlackBerry push with our Android app-focus.  The application registers with RIM and receives a response of success.  We register successfully the info back to our application server.  Our application server send push messages to the device, they are accepted by the RIM servers and are received successfully on the device.  Everything is great!

    Except...

If we shut down the device or reboot the device when he returns is no longer receives pushes for the application unless that register again with RIM BPA.  They are sent to the device and the same agreed before they get simply never received on the device.

What we're doing wrong?  Is he expected to receive pushed back them after a reboot of the device that the user must launch our app to record with pusher?  It would be really weird because a user will not necessarily start the application after each reboot.

Thanks for that bring to our attention. We have the Android Runtime search dev team in this.

As ennova2005 said, you need to unregistor/re-resistance after a reboot as a work-around. In addition, because the application does not start automatically, the application must be opened/started by the user.

    Thank you

  • Problems after restarting the vAPP vCOPS

Hey there - I am under vCOPS 5.

I noticed that some VM indicated "no data" in their respective details panels... I read somewhere the restart of the service was the way to solve this problem...

At the time I was not aware of the mode of command line to restart the service (from the resumption of vcops-admin Ui box), so I right click the VAPP vCOPS itself clicked shutdown, expected some time after that he had done and he turned his back.

Tried to login using the domain name COMPLETE on the web of the said server browser is not available - redirect where possible... shortly there after it struck me to a 404 screen.

I checked in the vSphere Client IP are different and static, I then connected the box to user interface and run a summary, he showed the VM analytics from the same Ip address... so I ran the repair tool (repair vcops-admin - XXXXXXXXXXXXX ipaddress) with the address of the VM analytics... They say "fixed" after restarting the service once again, but after another analytical perspective - showed the same thing.

I read that in v1 vCOPS, it was a graphic incompatibility known - and ignore it.  So-what could be the problem?  Let me know (I've already checked there is disk space)

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Leffingwell,

Can you check how much space is left on the partition/data of each virtual machine?  the 404 error means a webservice started, but one of the DB background servers probably didn't.

If either/data is near or at 100% full, then you need to turn off the TIME... Add a new drive... power back on.

When you add a drive, take all the default settings... and preferably choose style Eager zero thick (runs faster than the other two).

    Best regards

  • ghettoVCB extract missing after restart

    Hello

can someone help me with this problem, I used and followed this document ghettoVCB.sh - free alternative for the backup of the virtual ESX (i) 3.5 and 4.x + machines - last updated 14/03/2011 to set up n schedulling for my VM Server backup. After completing the configuration, I tried to backup using the list and it is successful. Then I try to program using crontab, everything is ok until I have restart the server after restarting, I noticed that all the files and folders that I had created and configure disappeared... I hope there is someone out there can help my problem here...

    Hello

Changes or the location of the files in ESXi are not preserved through reboots that ESXi is loaded into memory. Only some configuration files are saved via cron, to changes to preserve as cron, you will need to run the script to auto - backup.sh which is documented in the documentation of ghettoVCB. It is also recommended to place scripts ghettoVCB and the configuration files, the local or shared data store, where they will be persit by restarts.
