Try reinstalling the drivers for your printer. I had times when an update has done something that required that I have reinstall the drivers for a product. Don't know why, though. It's not really 'supposed', but he did.

  • Windows Update has failed. Don't want to not brick it. Need help

I just received my Revo RL80-UR23.  WIN8 booted up fine.  Went to get the usual windows updates.  All 102 of them (~ 1 GB).  Clicked on install.  During the installation of 99%, he failed and spent several hours back to before the updates.   For a while there I thought I was going to be stuck.  He would not return back and what I would do if the boot has been altered.

Fortunately he finally did come back, but it made me think that better, I have a backup plan if this happens.  This documentation on Acer is thin.  Can anyone answer a few questions?

    • If the if the unit does not start what can I do?

    • With Windows 8, you may want to upgrade to Windows 8.1. The upgrade stream can be found here: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/update-to-windows81. This is the suggested method and wrote for all of our units, we tested and customers to my knowledge. I recommend this updates a few at a time and not all at once. It is recommended to install only the critical and recommended updates first.

If you want to try another operating system, you must create your Windows 8 USB recovery media.

You can access the UEFI/BIOS by pressing the delete key when you do a cold start. You can also access it from inside Windows by following these steps: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27103.

  • Windows Update has failed or corrupted

Can someone at Microsoft please help... I did have a successful Windows since Oct 2015 update. Each update since then, except a (Skype) did not install. I have read and tried to follow workarounds including installers independent d/l that were presented on this forum as a solution to this problem. None of the 64-bit installer will install on my machine. In addition, given that the selection never install updates, by this Council, my Windows Update is inadmissible and just hangs. I ran scannow function and has been notified, a system problem has been resolved, but I'm unable to know which.

I've had this laptop for a while and updates have always worked very well until they just stopped. Someone please offer a solution that works? Thank you

  • After an update has failed (service Pack2) I get a message "windows is not genuine".

    Hello

My laptop has been inactive for a few weeks and when I started I had many updates to install...

I am running Windows Vista professional. After a (apparently unsuccessful) update with service pack 2, I get a message that my Windows is not genuine!

    • When I try to enter my key product per computer > properties etc. I get a message: "the product key you entered will not work with this edition of Windows Vista.» You must run the Windows Vista Setup program or enter a Windows Vista Business product key." But the key that I entered is for Vista Business!
    • I also tried to download the service pack and run it again, but it never ends. Same thing happens with another microsoft product making so-called system updates... They both end up never after many hours.
    • Do here, unfortunately, none created system restore point so I can't go back...

Other possible solutions? I have a lot of programs installed there and I don't want to reinstall windows from the restore CD. In addition, I do not know if it would work since I have the product key appears to be invalid for any reason any...

    Thanks in advance

I don't know what the problem is to post your report in the forums - especially since you are clearly able to download also.

The problem seems OK - a corrupt license store.

Please try the steps below to re-create the store with the correct data.

    (1) open an Internet browser window.
    (2) type: %windir%\system32 in the browser's address bar.
    (3) find the CMD.exe file
    (4) make a right click on CMD.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
    (5) type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you're sure, select Yes)
    (6) type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    (7) type: Rename tokens.bar tokens.dat
    (8) type: cd %windir%\system32
    (9) type: net start slsvc
    (10) type: cscript slmgr.vbs - FLIR (it may take time for this will be complete, please be patient)
    (11) restart your computer twice.

You may need to enter your COA key and activate it.
Once complete, run another report MGADiag and post back with the results
  • 10 Windows Update has failed, restored for Windows 7 - cannot open existing files

Oh boy, am I ever stressed.

My update of Windows 10 failed today (error: failure of page in nonpaged area).  I will have that later - my immediate problem is that when the update failed and stopped, it is automatically reduced to Windows 7 and all of a sudden I can't get all my Word or Excel files.

More specifically: I can't open my files in Word or Excel, except those saved on the desktop.  Desktop files open fine, but whatever it is saved in a folder or other location does not open.   Other types of file open: photos, Photoshop, PDF, apparently everything opens without a problem.  For Microsoft Office files, I get the following messages:

    For Excel:

Excel cannot access "File Name.xls". the document may be read-only or encrypted.

    and

"File Name.xls" are not accessible. The file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding or read-only.

    For Word:

Cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges

    Possible Note:

    1. I registered normally (as an administrator).

    2. when I right click on the file and look at the properties, everything seems normal (read-only is not checked, and the location of the file looks correct.

    3. I tried to pass a doc to a folder on my desktop.  It says that I have to give permission to the administrator.  I am able to click on the button 'continue' admin, the file is moved to the desktop, but still does not open.

Any advice would be welcome!  I'm not a computer expert, and I desperately need to access my documents.

So I clicked 'Add', typed the username- desktop\user name in the subject box, and then clicked on "Check names", then press the OK"" button.

    And now, the file opens.

I'm sure there's a better difficulty out there, I don't know what it is.  Whatever it is, I can access my files now.

You have made the right choice. It is essential that the specific user or group 'everyone' has full access to the file or folder. The alternative would be to use the console commands. They require a good knowledge of administrative tools.

Be sure to mark my suggestion as "Response" to this topic.

Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/

Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
