Age of Empires 2 crashes at startup.

I am running Windows XP SP2 and for some reason, Age of Empires 2 has stopped working.

It worked fine a few months ago, but then I stopped playing. A few days ago when I tried to play again he just of the cutscenes at the beginning of load and crashes. It gives no error after. He's just leaving the cinematics to a black screen and then it just hangs.

I tried with DirectX 9, DirectX 10, but nothing helped. I also tried to disable Direct Draw like I saw on a forum, but that no longer works.

All solutions?

Thank you.

I reinstalled windows and it works fine now.

  • Age of Empires II crash with error 'can't initialize graphics system' on Windows XP SP3

    Hello world.

I would like to start by saying that is it supposed to be in section games XP, well that is it has been deliberately redirect here, or there is a bug somewhere in social.answers, so do not blame me: P

In any case, I decided to install AOEII today. After installing it, I have updated to 2. 0, then I tried to run. It crashed with an error starting with «can't initialize graphics system...» ", with nothing very useful after that. Nothing in the case where the viewer will appear, I have no choice but to click on ok and close the game. This happens right after that it looks like my CRT resolution changes and before the video intro begins.

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP3, with a nvidia Geforce FX 5500 w / 128 MB of memory onboard (1 GB system). For my graphics card drivers are updated to 175,19, and I just tried to update Direct X end-user running, nothing new in this field.

If anyone can help, that would be great. (Also, to save us from evil, I already ran DirectDraw diagnosis, but also completely remove and then reinstall my graphic drivers.)

PS is it just me or there's a lot of people having problems with this game?

It seems that the installation and launch of the expansion rather than the basic game pack seems to work.

Thanks for helping anyway, so :)

  • Age of Empires II crashes when you try to access the features of the 'story' and 'cat '.

    Hello.

I play this game, and when I try to access some features of the game, it crashes for no apparent reason. Trying to access the 'History' function from the main menu causes a crash, but also tries to access 'Cat' and 'Diplomacy' in the game also cause outages, and I don't know why. the game works perfectly also. I play The Conquerors version 1 .0c.

Never mind. Solved the problem myself.

  • Age of Empires 2 crash when you click on diplomacy.

I have windows XP media center 2005 except Pck 3. I have all the latest updates from my windows, card game, and video. This is the question that I have.
I recently bought AOE collectors edition. The game is installed correctly and plays. But for some reason any, whenever I click on diplomacy so that I can pull up the diplomacy screen, my game completely blocked. I send the error report. I reinstalled the games without the updates, but nothing works. I want to regain control of my diplomatic positions for multiplayer games, but I can't as long as it keeps crashing.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem?

    Hey Jeeper,

Welcome and thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers community forum.

It seems that you are using Windows Media center 2005 SP3. Since this is the forum for Windows vista games, you can get the relevant information in one of the Media center forums. I've included one of the Media center forums.

  • Games crashing in 64 bit 7 Ultimate causing same problems Age of Empires 3 and Company of heroes

Hello I have recently upgraded to 64-Bit 7 Ultimate and manage with 2 games. The first being Age Of Empires 3 the second being Company of heroes. The games begin and will be launch to between 2 to 15 minutes then crash to the windows desktop. After the accident and live Explorer mail will constantly crash and the icons in the Explorer and live mail are all divided. I thought it was a card problem G so replaced my GTX 280 oc with a Radeon 5850, but exactly the same problem occurs. The only way to remove the crash is to reset the computer and then everything is fine until I try to play a game and it freezes, then I have to reset again to get rid of the Explorer and live mail crashing?

Bravo for your buddy for help. It seems that everything was linked to my cpu overclocked! I unclocked it and played every game in sucsession with no drama. I then lowered the 200 mhz overclock, and once againg played two games without drama. I have the clock my BE 555 to 3.8 with 4 cores unlocked for over a year and had no probs with XP. It does not seem possible for me it must be a coincidence that when I moved to Win 7 64, like my cpu is no longer this particular serger speed?

  • Age of Empires II Age of Kings not completely installed

I had to reformat my hard drive and installed Windows XP with service pack 3. It is the same operating system installed on the machine.  I installed Age of Mythology, with no problems, but when you try to install Age of Empires, the installation starts, but then crashes during the installation of the files. I tried with 3 different Age Empire, II, Age of the King disc and they all freeze-up during file transfer.  Help!

I'm sory to say this, but I think you are trying to INSTALL these games... all in GOOD ORDER!

"Age of Mythology" has never been the a 1 exit.

Remove it and re-install all... in their order.

This is what is causing the 'big freeze '!

I may need a few more details to better understand the issue.
    1. what exactly happens when you try to connect to the game?
    2. do you receive any error messages?
    3. were you able to play the game before?
    Method 1:
I suggest you to put the computer to boot and check if it helps.
By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 3 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.
    Method 2:

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the problem, it seems that you are having problems with the game Age Of Empires II, you receive an error message "AppCrash.exe". I'll help you fix the problem.

    (1) what version of the game is installed on your computer?

    (2) did the problem started recently?

    (3) have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

Step 1: Let me inform you that the game is not compatible with Windows 7.

You can check the link below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/win7/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefaultFilters?TempOsid=win7&Locale=en-us&TextSearch=Age%2Bof%2BEmpire%2BII&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&LastRequested=14

Step 2: If the version of Age of Empires II is not compatible, I suggest to install the program under Windows XP service pack 2 compatibility mode and check if that helps.

Make older programs to run on the version of Windows 7
