Almost black screen on Satellite P30 145

I have a P30-145, the screen is almost black.
I can just about make out the windows logo and figure on a pier, but everything else is black.

I think it is the inverter Board, but do not know if it could be the backlight or something else entirely? How can I check?

The laptop is now out of warranty so can not take back and, in any case, I see it as a challenge now!

I had the same problem on my Tecra M1. The laptop is about 5 years old and I use it very extensively (almost 10 hours a day). The display was exchanged. This is the much brighter screen as before.

Maybe you should exchange display too. To be honest I didn t ask although the also new FL inverter.

  • Satellite P30-145: White Rectangle on screen

I have a Toshiba Satellite P30-145, and he has recently developed a problem with the display. Whenever the computer is turned on, there is a large white rectangle covering part of the screen from top to bottom.

Stopping and restarting the computer didn't help, display settings settings I tried did not work and a system restore did not work.

I think it's maybe a problem of overheating the computer often becomes very hot and sometimes stops due to overheating (even if fans don't seem to be blocked when this happens).

Anyone know what could be the problem and if it can be fixed?

    Hello

I think that the fault of the graphics card might be the problem
Maybe the GPU damaged because the temperature inside the laptop.
As you say the laptop is overheating and it is really possible that it was a reason for that matter.

In my opinion, you need to connect the laptop to the external monitor to check if the same will appear on the second screen.
If you're going to see the same rectangle on the screen then the graphics card is damage and the entire motherboard must be replaced

    Feedback would be greatly appreciated

  • Satellite P30-145 has no backlight?

I have a satellite P30-145, which I have owned for 1 year and 2 months. Yesterday, I went to turn it on to find the image on the screen was very very low, to the point where it is very difficult to do anything. I know that there not the works of fine external output, as I connected it to the TV, so I can only assume the LCD backlight bulb.

Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I'm angry that it happened just outside the warranty period and I was wondering if there is anything I can do about it. I'm pretty comfortable with the dismantling of the stuff so the ideas/pointers would be welcome!

    Hello

It looks like FL-inverter to malfunction. This part is not very expensive.
You suggested that the laptop is about 1 year. As I know the guarantee must be valid longer since only during one year.
I would recommend contact the Toshiba service partner in your country and explaining your situation guys.
I think that the service guy will solve the problem of the inverter without major problems.

  • Satellite P30-145: the drive won't recognise DVD double layer

I have a Satellite P30-145 with a SupermultiDL DVD player. When I got the PC, I could write DVD double layer with no problems. Now the drive will not recognize DVD double layer at all. Even those from the same box that has worked well before. I use are Verbatim Double layer DVD + R 2.4 x discs.

After a lot of internet research, I have downloaded and run DVDInfoPro. This application has reported that the Player did not support the DVD + RW DL. Very strange!

    Can anyone help? The drive is a carpet * a DVD-RAM UJ - 831S.

    Hi Lan

This disc is certainly DL one, but I can imagine that the drive is defective and cannot calibrate lens in the right position. This model of laptop is more than two years, and if you have used this drive extensively, I can really imagine that the DL function is defective.

What you can do is to clean the lens and see that it will help.

    Very well.
My laptop will charge when turned off.

If I take the battery and turn it on with PC network, it will stay on for a second, then turns off.

    any ideas?

    Hello!

To me, this looks like a hardware problem. Maybe there is something wrong with the motherboard plug or power on the laptop. I put t know
I think that this should be checked by a technician of the laptop.

On the Toshiba site, you can find the nearest authorized service provider. They can help you.

  • Question about upgrading BIOS for Satellite P30 145

    Hi all, first post!

I have just received notification that there is an update of the BIOS for my laptop, Satellite P30-145, I downloaded and tried to install it but I get this message "the size of the rom file is incorrect" ideas?

    Hello

Seems Toshiba has released and document technical support for this newsletter.
I found this useful statement from Toshiba:

I can't update my BIOS with the function BIOS Phoenix-file ZIP Windows XP Windows.
I always get an error message: the size of the ROM file is incorrect.

    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB59014X0000R01.htm

    I hope it helps.

But note; The update of the BIOS is always risky! If you have any problems with your laptop you n don't need to update the BIOS.
The bad BIOS or bad BIOS update procedure may damage the cell Board!
So take my advice and never change a running system ;)

    Greetings

    Hello

Bluescreens can have different reasons so it s is not easy what causes this problem. Normally, Bluescreen related to drivers or a faulty hardware (RAM or HARD drive).

But have you tried an external monitor now? Maybe the internal monitor is defective if you get a black screen.
    Check it!

I put t know what you hear with customer support, exactly, but on the Toshiba site you can find a list of all authorized service provider. Call them and explain your situation. They can help you as they can order spare parts Toshiba.

  • Satellite P30-145: where to find the Radeon 9700 Mobility for Vista drivers

Does anyone at - he had a success get drivers ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 to arrive correctly on a P30-145 on the RTM of Vista version? Currently, everything seems to be detected ok but I get an error in saying Device Manager: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) "Googling didn't turn out much more than a certain number of people see this same error and it could be necessary an update of the BIOS, or the problem may be in the area of drivers ACPI?

Outside the upcoming graphics card not properly the only other comment I have is that system standby support doesn't seem to appear and that the cooling fan is continuously on, both of which I'm sure that can be fixed with a Toshiba release.

All had experiences with Vista and Satellite P30?

    Hello

I have no Satellite P30, but it will be interesting to see what kind of support Toshiba will arrange for older models of laptops and where will be the last limitation (how the old units will be supported).

AFAIK P30 is about two years old and we will see if the units in the year 2005 will be Vista supported. Official start is January 2007. Before that I n t believe you will get official info. I just hope that my Satellite Pro M70 will be supported.

    In any case good luck!

  • Cannot upgrade the BIOS on Satellite P30 - 145

    Hello world

just inherited a laptop P30-145, impossible to pass the bios. When I run the file, I get the message"BIOS update rom wrong format! "and then the installation program stops. How to pass? I do all right according to the Web site.

Just one thing, the original restore disc wasn't available, so I installed a standard XP and updated the necessary drivers on the Toshiba site.

    Hello

Try the 1.40 BIOS driver Toshiba page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/support/JSP/downloadDetail.jsp?soID=1236378&PF=true

The BIOS is for Satellite P30 PSP30U. It the same series as the European notebook PSP30E series.

Download the exe file and save it to the desktop. Then, create a folder and unzip the sp35v14.exe file in this new folder created.
Now go to this folder and inside that folder, you will find some files.
Read the Readme.txt file for the complete instructions for use the BIOS update.

  • Black screen on Satellite M40-185

After that a few months of problems with switch-offs sudden finally my Toshiba Satellite M40 - 185 is a black screen and it cannot do more. I have an external monitor, but it is also black.
Should I try to get a new LCD inverter or leave the Toshiba service get it and look at the motherboard?
    Maybe its completely dead?

    Any help and suggestions welcome!
    Dimitris

    Hi Dimitris

If the result is the same laptop computer s screen and external monitor it's probably serious hardware problem and fair service can help. I guess that the graphics card is the troublemaker and I fear that the motherboard must be exchanged.

Of course, I can't say that for sure. Because of this that the technicians run diagnostic programs to see what is the problem with your laptop.

  • Vertical lines and darker screen on Satellite P30-109

    Hello

I have a Satellite P30-109 running on Windows XP... But my screen is slowly becoming bad. It's getting vertical lines from the top of the screen down. In addition, the colors are much darker than before.

But when I plug in an external display, there is no problem. So I do not think that the video card problem? He spent the period of warranty.

    TNX

    Haris

You are right; If the same question doesn't appear on the external monitor then it s certainly not a GPU problem!

I think it might be a problem with the LCD itself or with the small role as a FL inverter.
I think you should communicate with ASP in your county for a check.

Maybe if you're a lucky man, only the small part malfunctions and the replacement wouldn t be expensive.

    Good luck

  • Disk error and black screen on Satellite c660-21z

    Hello

MY SON HAS HAD HIS LAPTOP FOR 3 WEEKS.
USED THIS MORNING, SHUT IT DOWN IN A NORMAL MANNER, WENT TO START TONIGHT AND GETS A BLACK SCREEN WITH "A DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED. PRESS CTRL + ALT + DELETE TO RESTART»

I TRIED TO RESTART, TRIED BOOTING IN SAFE MODE, AND THEN RETURNED.

SOMEONE HAS SUGGESTED EVEN TAKE OUT THE BATTERY AND PUT IT BACK BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.

    CAN ANY ONE HELP?

    Thank you

    Hello

It looks like a problem with the HARD drive.
Please check if the HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS. Switch on and press F2.
Usually, this will help you access the BIOS.
In the BIOS on the front page that the HARD drive should be mentioned is that?
Otherwise, this means that the HARD drive is dead and must be replaced

By the way: you did not post the laptop model but if it s 3 weeks old, then you must get in touch with Toshiba service, if the HARD disk is defective you should get a new one for free because the warranty to be valid.

Laptop s hardware seems to be affected.
But maybe you should try a common solution that would breathe new life into Notepad.

First unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button keep it pressed for about 30-40sec
Then connect the battery and the AC adapter.
Now press the power button once more.

    What happens now?
    Could you give some feedback?
