Almost dead Satellite P10

When I turn on the laptop the power light lights up and the hard disk light flashes then nothing, the screen is blank, it is as if the laptop is not even read the bios. It's already happened and the motherboard was replaced, exaggerated, I think. Last thing, I did put a cd in the drive when it was turned off when he was in mode single cd player. I think he is stuck in the cd mode drive, anyone know of this problem?

Dougie Connor

Hello

I have P20. It is similar as P10 just a bit more general. This problem is not known to me, but from your description, I really don? t believe you can do anything alone. If the unit doesn't? t start correctly and same BIOS can be demonstrated that there is certainly a bad operation of the equipment.

The firs time I understood that the unit works and that you can not see anything on the screen, but if the BIOS cannot be loaded correctly there is a serious problem.

Satellite P10 is old enough laptop model. I have very good experiences with P20. It's almost the same laptop, but a bit bigger. A friend of mine uses P10 for the job and we have installed WXP Pro using all the tricks of the Toshiba support page. The OS is installed two years ago, and the sound still works.

If you can not get this to work, I recommend you remove all the important data for the D partition or save on an external device and make the clean OS install. It will be interesting to see if the problem persists.

  • Satellite P10-304-DVD-ROM/CD-RW questions!

    Hello world

I own one of the original computers Satellite P10-304, which has a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. For these last months, we have one or two problems with that. It was a little skittish in which CD it reads, but in the last days he almost completely stopped read correctly (audio/data) CD / DVDs. He doesn't seem to know they are there. However, the Player opens and runs well, as if it were playing the CD, but nothing happens on the PC.

Curiously, I then looked on the list of the system, and the DVD-ROM/CD-RW driver had an excalamation mark. Even more curiously, the pilot was called TOSIICA! DWD something or other, when I'm sure it should have been DVD TOSHIBA etc.etc. Following the instructions, I uninstalled and then tried to reinstall, but it does not appear now when I try to add hardware.

    Confusing.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions?

    See you soon,.

    Ian.

    Hello

It looks like a car damage registry entry.
But that is only my suggestion. The other possibility is broken (lens calibration problem) by car.
You say that you have already removed the drive from the Device Manager, but the peut t OS recognizes the drive again. Well, in this case one of the possibilities is to use the System Restore tool or retrieve the device with the recovery CD.
But if the drive is broken recovery procedure doesn t help. In this case, only the replacement of the drive can solve this problem.

  • Satellite P10 turn suddenly

    Hello

    I have the satellite P10
    Im having problems.
I reformatted about a month ago, and since then, his performance is even more strange. One morning, I turned on and then as windows was loading, all images on the screen pixeld and started jumping up and down the screen... almost like matrix effect. Windows loaded, but my office etc. still had this majorly pixeld watched and kept jumping.

I managed to restart the pc in safe mode - and he has not had the same problem since then, however, it shuts down completely I work almost everyday now - or the second day.

I reformatted... installed lastest drivers, constantly updated to windows and have updated graphics cards etc.
He continues to cut all of a sudden - and feels as if it detects overheating a bit as well.

    SOS. What should I do?

    Katy

    Hello

Maybe the display problem had occurred because of the corrupted display driver.
However another question looks like overheating.
You can try to use the vacuum cleaner to clean the cooling modules.
It is a simpler procedure to clarify the fans.

  • Satellite P10, internal keyboard: the key of the pipe doesn't work anymore

    Hello everyone!

    I have a Satellite P10 with WinXP (SP1) for about 1 year.
Symptoms: it's the internal keyboard. I used the key pipe <|>indeed, not every day, but it worked. And suddenly, I see that it does no more: it is 'dead', while all other keys work correctly...

    My next steps:
    (1) I uninstalled the driver of standard keyboard (101/102 keys) or Microsoft Natural Keyboard (PS/2) keyboard, and were found after Windows starts. There is no material conflict under the Device Manager or the information system, the driver runs correctly...

    (2) the keyboard layout is German. But I have already tested the English (United States) too: the result is the same.

    Questions:
    (1) is the key physically damaged?
    (2) otherwise, what I can do to solve the problem? Where can I get a newer driver perhaps?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

As far as I know that it is not necessary to install a driver for keyboard. The driver is built into the OS. If the button is dead and doesn't work at all, it is probably defective.

  • Satellite P10 - how to get Windows XP?

I have a satellite P10 I bought again. The HARD drive is dead and I need to install a new one. I have all the recovery disks provided with my machine, but not windows XP that was loaded first. How to get it without having to buy new?

The HARD drive was replaced by the only agent of service Toshiba 9 months ago in London but they say they offer only a 3 month guarente therefore is not willing to pay another £100.00 + I all saved data.

    Can anyone help please?

    Hello

I do not know, you will get an original recovery media for this older model laptop, but you can see the page posted by Akuma m.
If you are not able to get Toshiba recovery media install WXP using the facilities of Microsoft CD.

All the drivers, tools and utilities, you can find on Toshiba support and download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads.

    Hello

I found some info on the HDD on Satellite P10:

    It can be used a 2.5 ", 9.5 mm hard disk with capacity of 30 GB / 40 GB / 60 GB / 80 GB

    -Master - IDE bus
-9.5 mm, 2.5 HARD drive carrier
    -Support synchronous Ultra DMA 100

So for your laptop you can buy IDE HDD up to 80 GB of capacity.

I think you can buy it everywhere. In PC Magazine, online electronic store, eBay...

  • Satellite P10 - problem with grafic card

    Hello

At the start of my Satellite P10 - 554 today, the display shows not sorted pixel color around the screen. The message of the BIOS seems completely normal. After the start in graphic mode, from windows XP, the screen keeps being black.

The hard drive works fine. I checked the display. It works very well.
I guess that the graphics card (geforce go 5600) is damaged. Any chance of getting my phone fixed? Do I need a new mainboard, or is it possible to replace the graphics card? Where can I get the parts needed, used or unused? How the 'spare parts' cost? Better to buy a new laptop?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Steven from Germany, Duisburg.

    Hello

    > Any chance to make my phone fixed? Do I need a new main Board, or is it possible to replace the graphics card? Where can I get the parts needed, used or unused? How the 'spare parts' cost? Better to buy a new laptop?

Are you sure that the graphics card is dead at 100%? This can be checked easily.
You could connect the external monitor to the laptop and could check whether the same appears on the external monitor too. If the same failure would appear on the external monitor then the GPU could be really faulty.

In this case the whole motherboard must be changed and such procedure costs a small fortune, because the motherboard is on expansive parts laptop. You should calculate 300-350 euros

Then maybe a Council of second hand could be an alternative.

  • Re: Satellite P10 304 - hard drive compatibility

    Hello

My original hard drive is dead and I find it very difficult to get information on the internal hard disks will be compatible replacements, especially that Toshiba offers no sales through this site.

The old disk seems to be IDE (or EIDE). An ATA100 drive would be compatible? PATA?

    Thanks for any information.

This forum offers numerous useful threads on the upgrade of the disk on the Satellite P10.

    But here's my suggestion;
    The laptop uses a 60 GB 4200 RPM IDE (ATA-5) (Ultra-ATA/66)
The controller uses ATA - 5, and in my opinion for example disk HARD ATA - 6 (Ultra-ATA/100) will work too, but perhaps not with 100% performance.

  • Satellite P10-304 - update Windows 7 problem

I have a Satellite P10 304 to 2003 which has Windows XP, but I need to update for obvious reasons. I bought a copy of Windows 7 (32 bit) and installed without any installation problem, however I can't update Windows.

I reinstalled, deleted the hard drive and reinstalled again. Tried the stop and start the Windows Update utility.
    Downloaded the stand-alone Windows Update.

Updated the BIOS to V2.0 and downloaded the Toshiba Service Station application (who says no update is necessary).
    All this without success.

My hopes were raised when I saw that the Station Service for Windows 7 32 bit software was available for the P10 304 but I am now at a loss.

Anyone know if this laptop can be upgraded to Windows 7 and how to get updates of work?

    Help is welcome.

    Peter

I'm sure that installation of Windows 7 update problems are not specific to Toshiba problems even if you use the Toshiba laptop.

From my point of few, you should check the Microsoft support pages to find the solution.
    For example this:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/w...#1TC=Windows-7

Just a tip: I had some problems in the past to install updates because of the antirust software. He locked the installation of some essential updates and after you disable temporal, updates could be installed...
Missing Service Packs might concern the single installation of patches.

I recently bought a Satellite P10 371, to use on business when away from home and I am a newcomer in the world of networks

  • Satellite P10 722: what Mini-PCI WLAN can I integrated?

    Hello

I have a Satellite P10 722. It seems to be ready wireless (it has an LED to show the WLAN activity). I would use an internal Mini-PCI card in it. Ideally, it would be a b/g card.

Anyone know what model/part number Mini-PCI card will work with this laptop.
She is not in the list of compatibility of the any of the maps on this page (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/options_and_accessories_search.jsp?z=16&service=UK & selOptionCategory = 4696)

    Thanks for your help,
    Shane

    Hello Shane

Sorry, but this kind of information can give you just the authorized service partner. I don't know if the P10 722 is ready WLAN but you can check only. In the lower corner of the unit, you will find WiFi coverage. Remove it carefully and check if there are two antenna WLAN (black and white) cables. If so, the device is definitely ready WLAN.

Contact the Service partner and ask them for you to adapt to your model of laptop. As far as I know, the consultation is free.

Just for info. One of my friends has P10 with WLAN (802 11b Agere) card.
