• Windows doesn't let me use product key, but it is valid. How can I contact it?

  I have a second-hand machine from my father. He gave me the copy of Windows Vista Home Premium it bought to go with it. But now I installed it all he continues to ask for activation. When I type in the product key, Windows tells me that it is already in use. I made contact with him and he has checked his machines and assures me, it is not in use on any of them - he bought his own copies of Windows 7 that he uses.

  I bought WIN PRO 8 32-BIT / 64-BIT ENGLISH VUP DVD SKU 3UR-0001 on the Microsoft Store.

  I installed it on my laptop with 8GB and a new SSD.

  Can't activate Windows 8 Pro with product key provided after installation is complete.

  Have not installed on Windows 7. Clean install on a brand new SSD.

  You upgraded to Windows 8, but did not have an earlier version of Windows Installer (error 0xC004F061)

  If you see error 0xC004F061 when you try to activate Windows 8, this means that you are using a product key for an upgrade of Windows 8 version and a previous version of Windows wasn't on your PC when Windows 8 was installed. To install a Windows 8 upgrade version, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.

  If you have formatted the drive until the upgrade of Windows 8 version has been installed, you will not be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you will need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. Help with the activation process, contact technical support.

  Well, what to say to my knowledge it of not possible to activate the other version of Vista with OEM from Toshiba key.
  This key is assigned to this OEM version and it should not work with another Vista CD/DVD.

• Will be validate Windows if previous owner used product key?

  I need to run Windows XP on a new computer, I am building for games, so I searched eBay and found a seller of good reputation with a full detail of Windows XP Pro package. Assuming that the seller has retired the PC that were previously running this copy of Windows, I'll be able to install it on my new build? Or Microsoft will always record the product key is in use? If this is the case, what is my recourse? Can Microsoft help me validate the copy, because I'm having the certificate of authenticity and documents proving that I bought the software enough?

  If the key is not used for a long period of time (say, 6 months or more) there is an activation lucky will not be a problem.  If she fails to activate (assuming that the key is no longer in use), then try to phone activation.

• Windows 7 used product key sticker

  The product key of Windows 7 on the sticker attached to the bottom of my laptop is worn and not readable.  The HARD drive crashed and I need to install a new one.  I can't boot from the existing HARD drive - but I can retrieve files from the disk using Recuva.  Is there a way I can get the product from a file recovered key?  Can I use the HP model and serial number to find the key to OEM product somewhere?  I'll need when I install the new drive.

  Unfortunately there is no way to get a replacement product key or to retrieve the key from the HARD disk.

  Even if you could, you wouldn't be able to use to activate the windows installation.

  Your only option short of buying a new operating system to full version (OEM or retail) is to order a recovery disc for your PC game, if they are still available.

  AFAIK, a product key is not required when you use the HP factory recovery disks.  I've never had to enter a product key when using them.

• Windows 7 Pro Activation error by using product key previously working. Cannot be enabled.

  Windows became unstable after noticing an arc that happened during the installation of a USB key in a USB3 motherboard ports.  I used my installation discs for windows to attempt a repair.  Windows didn't fix the problem and is now impossible to activate using the product key.  There is no hardware made changes.
