Am I safe upgrade to El Cap on a 2009 Macbook Pro?

I've read some reviews in the ApStore on El Capitan and am concerned by works on my MacBook Pro 2009.  I know I'm not going to be able to run this thing forever, but I am very proud of the fact that its so fast now that it has fresh out of the box of 7 years.

Anyone out there running El Cap on older MacBook?

Thank you

p

I throw on a MBP 09 model, it works fine.

The latest version of Mac OS is 10.11 'El Capitan' and the upgrade only currently available free. Any computer capable of running 10.8.5 will run 10.11. My son and I both have the same model of MacBook Pro you and executed both El Capitan without problem. I upgraded my RAM 8 GB but its still has the original 4 GB and shows again no problem.

Any successful upgrade means that you must be free of any antivirus, internet security or so-called applications of "cleaning/optimization/tune-up. They will destroy the performance.

  • How can I change safe my mid August 2009 MacBook Pro of El Capitan safe...?

Unfortunately my iPhone 5 has stopped working yesterday, so I had a 6s, but I'm still in 10.7.5 naturally now I need to update my laptop, but the last time I tried to update my laptop a few years apparently from what had been told to me by the MacMall apple technician in Santa Monica , it's that I didn't delete the old partition out of my HD, then the laptop was stuck in a lock box. Which resulted in me having to wipe the HD. Is there a way to access El Capitan safely without any headaches and being able to have my files in order with the new OS...? My MacBook Pro is a Mid-August 2009 with processor Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM. Thanks in advance, any comment on this situation is welcomed.

Here are a few steps you need to take before moving on to the latest version of Mac OS X.

First, run the software update or the App Store and install all the updates available for the operating system you have now. The system must be in good working condition. Do not expect an upgrade of the operating system to repair a computer that is abnormally slow or unstable. More likely, the upgrade will make the problem worse.

If you have less than 4 GB of memory, as shown in the box about this Mac, and your model has an expandable memory, install at least that a large part, or preferably the maximum amount of the machine can use according to the specificationsof Apple. If the memory is not expandable, or you don't want to upgrade, turn off using a newer Mac OS x version until you decide to buy a new computer.

If you have already upgraded the memory, check the specs to make sure that the memory is compatible, both the type and capacity. Do not install more memory that is officially supported by the model. Sellers of spare memory may contradict Apple specifications because they want to sell memory. Their guarantees that you can exceed the specs are not not trustworthy. Although the memory of out-of-spec worked, it may not work after the OS upgrade, or you may not upgrade at all.

Make sure all of your most important third-party software are up-to-date and compatible with the current OS x Very old versions of Microsoft and Adobe products, for example, may not be compatible. The Web site is the best source for this information. Incompatible third-party software causes almost all problems with OS X updates.

Finally, in back up all the dataand be sure you know how to restore if you don't like the results of the upgrade.

If you have a with a sufficient capacity storage device, you can copy the boot volume in disk utility, then run him and to upgrade. So, if you don't like the results, all you have to do is change the setting in the startup disk preferences pane and restart.

Hello. I buy the Macbook Air Mid 2015... After the upgrade to El Cap internet speed slowed painfully. What should do? Help, please

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is particularly bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Run the Console application in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be all Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ all Messages

in the list of logs on the left. If you don't see this list, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu at the top of the screen bar.

Each message in the journal begins with the date and time when it was entered. Highlight date back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered since then until the end of the episode, or until they begin to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy messages to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command + V.

The journal contains a large amount of information, almost all this is useless to solve any particular problem. When you post a journal excerpt, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't dump blindly thousands of lines in the journal in this discussion.

Please do not post screenshots of log messages - text poster.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the journal excerpt, an error message may appear on the web page: "you include content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the forum software. Thanks for posting the text on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

  • Trackpad MacBook Pro late 2011 does not not after upgrade

I just update the OS in my MacBook Pro (late 2011) which worked perfectly well 'El Capitan' to 'Sierra '. Everything went, smooth and pleasant. but now, the trackpad is completely erratic, is in itself (such as move and open programs like possessed). I tried several suggestions from apple such as checking for updates, check the settings, delete all the gestures, etc. I'm assuming that the material is very well that was perfectly fine yesterday... any suggestions please help.   -Note; I have to use an external mouse, and the latter is very well.

    Hello Med_,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It is my understanding that after upgrading to Sierra, your MacBook trackpad has become erratic. I know that my trackpad is an important part of my daily use, I can certainly understand your concern. I'm here to help get this resolved with you.

You did an excellent job so far! Then I recommend the system management controller (SMC) reset. This system can solve some unexpected behaviors. Follow the steps below:

    1. Stop the Mac.
    2. Unplug the MagSafe from Mac power adapter.
    3. Remove the battery. (Learn about removing the battery in the MacBook and MacBook Pro computers).
    4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    5. Reconnect the battery and the MagSafe power adapter.
    6. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

The LED on the MagSafe power adapters could change State or temporarily disable when you reset the SMC.

Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

If the problem persists, test this problem in safe mode. This will allow you to exclude the software as the cause. To help get started in safe mode and additional steps, use the steps and the link below:

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Try safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning

    See you soon!

  • Can't stop MacBook Pro after upgrade to Mac OS Sierra

Yesterday I had upgraded my MacBook Pro since OS X El Capitan with macOS Sierra. Unfortunately I can't stop him, I can't even restart. Whenever I have start/stop I get a black screen (no slider) and it remains frozen. I have to hold the power button for a few seconds so that he will stop. I want to avoid cleaning the installation and configuring everything. Does anyone have an idea what causes this problem? I cleaned the cache and reset the NVRAM without effect.

    ... I cleaned the caches

I recommend that you do not have this, especially with a 'clean' non-Apple utility. All these things can do is cause problems. A SMC reset will remove some files from the system cache: reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac. That's all that anyone should ever do.

Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. Read https://www.apple.com/support/backup/to learn how to do this please. To learn how to use Time Machine read to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

Then, shut down your Mac and restart in 'Safe Mode '. To learn how to do it please read: try safe mode if your Mac does not start-up. Compare works your Mac in Mode for how safe it was.

Then restart normally. If the same problem comes back, please read the section If a problem does not occur in safe mode for actions recommended to Apple.

Finally, you can temporarily create a new user account and log into this account to determine if the problem also exists when connected to this account. To learn how to read How to test a question to another user on your Mac account. When you are finished troubleshooting, you can remove the temporary user account by following these instructions: macOS Sierra: remove a user or a group. Before you delete, confirm that you have not need of all the files that you have possibly set in this account.

  • My MacBook Pro (late2009) stalled for 2 days now trying to upgrade to El Capitan. It neither improved nor returned to Yosemite. Help, please.

I have macbook pro late 2009. I started to upgrade to El Capitan 2 days ago. Downloaded, it stalled during installation. It has frozen about 95% installation and remained so for 2 days. Help, please.

    Try to Safe Mode Setup:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Start safe mode and see if the problem persists:

    Restart now ' shift '.

(Wait to take more time to start in this way because it runs a check of directory first. Also give it some time after the start because he runs maintenance routines at the beginning.)

  • El Capitan is safe for my Macbook Pro?

Hi friends, I need advice. Update of Safari and downloads of some products to my MacBook Pro, I need to upgrade my operating system Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Intel Core i5 2.4 GHz processor memory and El Capitan is the latest update available for me, but I'm afraid to go forward, worrying that it will slow down the processing of my laptop. Is this a problem? If this is the case, a concern is first step I should take to increase my computer laptop capacity or speed? I backed up everything on an external drive. Thanks for any advice you can give

Yes, it is safe for your computer.

  • I want to upgrade my HDD to SSD on a 13 "MacBook Pro model 2011.

I want to upgrade the 512 GB drive HARD on my MacBook Pro 13 "2011 model to a 1 TB SSD.

I would like to know if it is safe and that it will improve the performance of my computer?

If your computer is under warranty I would take a first service provider since the upgrade of the disk hard yourself may void the warranty.

Hard disks have magnetic disks called platters, that something similar to a needle, called a head, uses to read and write data.  Solid disks have no moving parts so the data is read and written much faster than a hard drive.  From a HDD for one SSD must have a performance increase, but it will only increase performance when the determinant of the performance are the storage of read and write times.  The amount of applications that are running at the same time is always dependent on the amount of system memory.  The time that processor intensive tasks such as converting video and audio can take is still dependent on the processor.  Several components material impact on the overall performance of the computer system from a disk HARD of a DDI will only have an impact on performance when the data is written to or read from storage.

  • MacBook Pro a mess (maybe after upgrading to El Capitan)

I need help in desperate mode.  I tried to implement everything that I know and I now return to the pros.    I have a Macbook Pro mid-2012.  The computer is still very well without any problems.   After about 3-4 weeks after the upgrade to El Capitan, I started to have problems.   I'm not sure it's related, so I don't want to blame the new version, but wanted to mention.

The problems began with suddenly a series of cruise lines up and down my screen in vertical columns.  The computer would then closed and when I started it again, I would get three consecutive beeps.   After searching for the reason for this, I found that it was probably a RAM problem and saw messages recommending to turn on and remove two cards of memory RAM.  This would help the lines/beeps etc, but the beach ball began to spin all the time.     I ran a scan of material and everything checked, including the RAM.   I feel upgrade my RAM anyway (we stock 4 GB), so I buy new RAM and upgraded to 16 GB.   Unfortunately, this did not help to remove the rotation beach ball.   It runs the same as before, but the delay/spin isn't as long as it was before.  Seems that upgrading RAM reduces the time of "spin".

Since the upgrade, I reset memory PRAM/NVRAM, recommended in this forum.  Did not help.   Then I booted the computer in Mode safe and also reset the SMC.   None worked.

Then, I started in HD recovery using the command-R and repair the hard disk and permissions using first aid option in disk utility.   Nothing has changed.  Always turn the ball and beach closing my apps suddenly by itself.  The machine will be restart as suddenly about once a day for a reason any.

The amazing thing is that the beach ball turns constantly and at the same time my activity monitor says I have 90% of free CPU while my reel becomes crazy.

The next step on the list that I saw on the forum is to reinstall OS X.   I did not this again, because my Time Machine hangs and won't give me a recent backup.   I'm religious about backing up (about every 2-3 weeks) and my normal backups take about 30 minutes (usually leave it all night in stopping in bed).  Since this problem started, the Time Machine backup "preparedness Back Up Now" never of leaves.  I left overnight (8 hours) and still stuck in the preparation of backup mode.   I've even left for a total of 24 hours and nothing.   The only new information I have to save may not be more than 3 or 4 GBs top (just emails and documents (photos and videos are on the external drive), while certainly something will not.)

Now that you have the story, what should I do?    I don't want to reinstall an OS X cool unless I have to, without a current backup.   This isn't the end of the world, but I would like to have the e-mails and documents that have been organized and classified over the last 2 months.

I've seen enough of few people displaying the results of EtreCheck and to be lucky with this, so here are the results.  I don't know how to properly analyze it, but looks like I need a larger Time Machine backup drive.

(Its the same thing I've always used, so don't know why all of a sudden it stopped allowing me to save.)   I remember that Time Machine used to give an opinion on the size of the disk when it is too small, and I got that.)

Thank you all in advance for the help!

Please read this message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It is unlikely to solve your problem. Don't be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The test is intended to determine if the problem is caused by a third-party software that loads automatically at startup or logon, by a device, by a police conflict or corruption of system files or some system caches.

Disconnect all devices wired except those required to test and remove all the expansion cards from secondary market, as appropriate. Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things work at all, including an audio output and a Wi - Fi connection on some models. The next normal boot can also be a bit slow.

The login screen is displayed even if you usually connect automatically. You need your password to log on. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

Test in safe mode. It will be slow, but there should be no beachballing. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and make sure you always have the problem. View the results of the test.

  • Question of cloning for SSD upgrade on 12 Macbook Pro

Previously, I did an upgrade to SSD on my Macbook Air to 2012 according to the instructions of JetDrive transcend. Basically connection via USB 3 and using Mac OS X to clear (and format) disc utilities new SSD, then restore again SSD and then remove the original 128 GB SSD and insert the new 480 GB SSD.  For about a month and so far without problem.

Now I'm trying to 2012 Macbook upgrade my Pro partner (on 10.11.6).  I got a Crucial SSD MX300 to replace his HARD drive.  Crucial comes with (or recommend) Acronis software.  And a lot of the messages of the forum recommend Carbon Copy Clone.

My question is if I can use the same method for the cloning of the HD as my Macbook Air (just restore disk of Mac OS X utilities)?  This time, I'm upgrading HARD drive and I don't know if something is different.  At the same time, if I got lucky the first time, I don't not ruin Macbook Pro my spouse this time.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can use disk utility to clone your MBP wives, but unlike CCC, it will not clone the recovery and Partition.
