Anti-virus & Spyware

Within the Windows Action Center, I got a warning that running two or several programs at the same time may cause my

computer runs slowly. I am currently running Windows Defender & AVG Anti-Virus Free.  I also downloaded iradio who

invite me to add Norton PC Checkup when downloading the toolbar iradio.  These three performing the same function,

and if they do, that one would be my best option?

Hello

I had a copy of the MMFA saved in my documents and it used to have the backup safety.  How I came to reimage and download

who asks me to open up my firewall and anti-virus is still a mystery to me.  I have another problem I could use your help.  I constantly received a warning about running out of space on my drive E: HP Tools, I have never save anything on this disk and can't understand why this is happening.  All of the suggestions you gave me were so useful.

A grateful student

  • Get the warning of the anti-virus program on Crack.exe as potentially dangerous program/spyware

    Hey, all!

It was only a few days, I started using Windows Vista. Recently, I installed the AVG anti-virus free 2011 on my PC. But, after installation, when I scanned the computer with him, it displays a warning that there is a (potentially harmful Prog) spyware, named Crack.exe is present on my PC. I scanned my computer for several times, but the result was the same.

Manually, I explored & found the file under C:\Windows\Crack\Crack.exe with 291 KB in size.

When I move my pointer of the mouse over it, it shows Vista OEM BIOS émulation Setup.

Now, please tell me, is this really a Spyware / any potentially harmful program or any Windows system file? I can remove it or I need to run my PC?

Please help me solve the problem. Thanks in advance!

  • Virus Spyware 2009

Hello, can someone help me please!  My computer has been attacked by the virus of spyware 2009 and I seem to keep hitting a brick wall when it comes to get a solution to this issue.  My internet provider is unable to help me because with this virus I can't connect to the internet to use internet security suite that I buy from them, so they tell me that Hp has to help me.  I called HP and they tell me that my computer is out of warranty, so they can only help me if I pay $60 or $100 for diagnos and repair my computer with what is called a batch file.  HP directed me to this site so that I can find someone here to guide me.  Because I can not connect to internet with this computer, the fix must be something I can manually enter the computer.  If anyone can help me please post a solution.  It would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

Before using a system recovery, install Malwarebytes and scan your computer with it. You can download & save it on another machine, copy on USB STICK, cd, etc. to transfer to the sick pc:

    http://www.MajorGeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5756&file=9&EVP=693ee0b20204960edfd909666f809b26

For what it's worth now, these security suites offered by the ISP online are pretty useless when you need more. My sister has also learned that one the hard. There are several good free anti-virus apps that are higher.

  • If the window Defender performs the same work as McAfee Total Security, why is it when I uninstall the McAfee I get a message that I don't have anti-virus protection?

    Above says it all.

    Above says it all.

They do * not * do the same thing. Windows Defender is an anti-spyware program only. When you uninstall McAfee, you have p anti-spyware [protection, but no anti-spyware protection.]

Moreover, in my opinion, McAfee is one of the worst of the available security programs.  For an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (do not run more than one) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

I have Superantispyware but get a message that I need anti-virus software. isn't what I already deal with virus? Thank you

    Hello

    SuperAntiSpyware deals only spyware.

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • What is the prevalence of viruses, malware, etc., to be hidden and undetectable by anti-virus software?

    • As before, when my computer when my computer has been infected, I get a svchost.exe error, repeatedly, whenever I restart the computer. The infection has been discovered that the last time by my anti-virus software, because it was hidden.  It was a computer expert on this forum who told me my computer was infected by svchost.exe repeated error messages that I received.  I ran my Avast software, anti-malware software from MSFT Security Center, Win Defender, etc. this time, and it has detected no infections.  (Yes, I know what to do to pass this message means not necessarily my computer is infected, but the tech guy said that it is likely, given that the error message appeared on several occasions).  How detect and destroy the virus/malware hidden, etc?
    • Also, if anyone can answer another question... I was told that it is not recommended that I have two programs of anti-virus software, which I do - Win Defender and Avast (I guess they may conflict).  I tend to want to keep Avast, but would like to know if I have to keep Win Defender instead, because it is a Win a Win system program.  If I've got this me getting rid of one of them, is it recommended that I both uninstall and then reinstall one of them?

A person help would be appreciated!

    Thnx, Dharma

WHAT I HAVE: Win XP Media Center, MS Office 7 Professional (used at home), IE8, Outlook 7, HP w / 32-bit dual core processor, latest version of Avast & Win Defender, Srvc Pack 2 and 3 (although I know that I don't need 3 because I have not upgraded to Win 7, but it won't let me uninstall it!) and regularly updates Win.

PS Please ask questions if you have, before you answer, so it will be less likely that I'll get the wrong answers that don't relate directly my questions! (Can say you that has already happened?  (LOL).

You pouvez have a type of rootkit of malware infection.  Rootkits can transform and change of identity on your OS (and are difficult to detect and remove) and many computing professionals recommend a reinstall of the operating system in order to ensure that the rootkit is removed.

Follow the suggestions in the Brian - post.  The link that he provided is an excellent reference.   If you have a rootkit, TDSS Killer or one of the other programs listed pourrait be able to remove it.

    You can also:

If you are in North America, you can call the MS Support to 866-727-2338 for help with infections of virus and spyware.

For international information see your subsidiary local technical support site.

Or get assistance from Avast at: http://www.avast.com/support

You have SP3 on your Win XP OS and if you plan to switch to Win 7 make sure that your processor and RAM will manage Win 7... with your history of technology issues a reformatting/clean install of Win 7 would be a good idea.  Because of the possibility of conflicts, I do not recommend using Windows Defender with Avast or any other resident AV program.  Suggest uninstall you Windows Defender in Control Panel.  MSE and several other AV programs require the removal of Windows Defender in XP (or disabling the Defender in Vista and Win 7).

    FOR EXAMPLE

    Hello TedGibney,

As in earlier versions of Windows, for example, the Bill said Windows Defender, Vista only acts as an Anti-Spyware. It was only in later additions of Windows that Microsoft has added anti virus ability.

As you have used AVG before I would suggest that you follow this anti virus application, when you are running Windows Vista.

About PC Tune Up it would be wise to not use that, like many Tune Up / registry cleaners these applications can cause more problems than they actually heal.

  • Free anti-virus is this useful?

Is a free anti-virus with a value of use on any PC?
Because I know spyware and viruses of days now are developing every day, steal or damage to our PC.
I want to know what is the best to use.

Should I get a licensed software that is reliable like Norton, McAfee, PC Tools, Live One Care etc. or get a free anti-virus, because a lot of people say it's better that it detects a wide range of viruses, spyware and can repair our PC etc., better than Norton, McAfee, PC Tools and Live One Care.

In these days of multiple and different types of infections (virus, Trojan, Malware, spyware, etc., you need more of a bloated anti-virus Security Suite to protect you.

The big 3, Norton, McAfee and Trend are trying to be everything to everyone and fail miserably.

You are much better running of more specialized programs, particularly for the Malware/Spyware removal.

I recommend a combination of the following 4 programs:

    http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Avast anti-virus is XP and Vista (32-bit and 64-bit Versions) FREE, - automatic update and a user of low resources from your computer.

And, don't have 1 (one) anti-virus installed / running on your computer at any time.

Conflicts can occur if you have more than 1 (one).

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6.2 is a very good Anti-Spyware FREE program.

  • AVG Anti-virus (malware) does not illuminate

My os is windows vista Basic, windows defender is Windows Firewall turned on, I get alert windows from security saying me my avg anti virus (malware protection) is disabled. However, it will not turn on, ive recently installed avg 8.5 (free), I never had no problem with the previous avg 7, could be something to do with the Defender w or w Firewall?, any help please.

    Hi murphmeister,.

Thank you for taking the time to post.

It is possible to Windows Defender and if that AVG has a Malware/spyware scanner, it can cause conflicts as it is recommended to have only a spy software put real-time protection. It is allowed to have several installed, it has simply not recommended to have the two together at the real time protection. It really depends what the following shows us.

    ·         Click on the Start Orb on the Office

    ·         Select Control Panel

    ·         Select Security Center (Classic view)

Under protection from malware it shows under the protection against viruses and software spies and other software malware protection?

Have you tried to reinstall AVG?

AVG seems to work; You can scan and access the program very well as far as you can tell?

The following steps will attempt to repair management Windows (WMI) Instrumentation which can cause the Security Center to see the average price before trying the following steps please make sure that you do not have a restore point of the current system.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/322756

    ·         Click on the Start Orb on the Office

    ·         In the Search box, type cmd (do not hit enter)

    ·         Right click on cmd.exe and select run as administrator

    ·         Type or copy the following that winmgmt /verifyrepository and press enter

    ·         We should get this message: "WMI repository is incompatible"

    ·         Type or copy the following winmgmt /salvagerepository and press enter (you may need to try this one a couple times)

    Please let us know.
