  It seems that the IBM XIV storage has a limitation around the minimum size of LUNS, which seems to be 17 GB. Taking into account that one of the added values of the UCS is the SAN boot using the service profiles, and that most UCS implementations rely on VMware (OS, ESXi needs barely 300 MB installation), which means a must are underutilizing the 17 GB LUNS in order to begin the ESXi, that might be a waste of money. I was wondering if anyone here found the same question to their customers and know if this also happens in other bays of disks (EMC Symmetrix for example), or only in IBM XIV.

  That really sound silly on a size of the LUN 17 GB min. configured but seems to be true:

  I have never heard all these dimensions LUN min. anywhere near this size on all NetApp or EMC arrays.

  As it is a problem of table to IBM, I would say this confirming with IBM.

  We are a little confused as to what the correct multi-channel strategy is when you have an IBM XIV storage.

  In September, we had a glance on the HCL and VMware has recommended the RR as policy for the XIV storage as you can see in the screen below (taken on 2010-09-23):

  

  But when we looked in the HCL yesterday VMware (2011-01-26) have changed to FIXED:

  

  And when we read the latest Redbook IBM reguarding this they recommend RR for ESX 4.x

  Hi Henrik,

  The HCL to the IBM XIV has been updated to support a policy of path of the fixed (VMW_PSP_FIXED) or Round - Robin (VMW_PSP_RR).

  According to the Redbook - "alternate Multipathing policy is always best choice when attaching to system storage IBM XIV."

  I would recommend using Round-Robin, because it is the preferred option.

  Looks like a BIOS setting may have changed (in terms of virtualization).

  Unlikely a Windows problem.

  Uninstall VMware Player.  Restart the computer.  Download the latest version of VMware Player (save to your computer) and install it.  Restart the computer.  Try to run it.

  I want to know if it is possible to manage the (changing) configuration of Dell RAID controller on the host running VMware.

  For example if I add a few discs for DAS shelves storage connected to the H800 controller, I need to set up the RAID on these new disks and add the new data store in vCenter without rebooting the machine.

  Thanks to the open tab Integratilon manage in vCenter, I see both controllers and all discs but cannot perform any operation.

  I use Fusion for some time on my Mac (Mavericks 10.9.4). Recently, when I went to launch Fusion 6.4, I received this message:

  So, I removed the merger application and downloaded again. When I installed it, I got the same message. Uploaded a new image, the same thing!  No matter what I do, I can't use Fusion. Suggestions?

  Do not use Zapper App - merger, running specific uninstall scripts.

  I've seen that occur when get-Gatekeeper confused about how something has been installed, when permissions are confused, or when a hard drive is running out.  If you have VMWare Fusion and have installed and it run under an administrator account (default in OS x unless you change it), then first use disk utility to first 'check disk' (if you want something better, look for smart voltains software utility), then repair permissions.  If this does not work, try to right click on the merger in the applications folder, and choose open.

  I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

  This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. And I am obviously set up is to have some virtual machines running and be able to access the Internet. I have access to the console of the server Dell through iDRAC and since I could see, one of the network adapters in the IP is 62.210.177.20x defined, and the other has been shown out of service. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2^nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2^nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2^nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2^nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2^nd NIC. But that 2^nd NIC had a red X next to it probably indicating that it was disconnected the 2^nd form virtual switch.   Once you install the Hyper-V role on your host, your host is no longer running Windows 8 as the native operating system.  It runs Hyper-V as the native operating system, and Windows 8 runs as OS management within a privileged under Hyper-V VM.  With the Hyper-V role installed, * everything * runs in a virtual machine under Hyper-V.

  So to run a virtual machine under my computer in Windows 8 under Hyper-V, you must be able to run a nested VM.  It's possible with Hyper-V, the hypervisor host, but with the updates in custody, I mentioned above.

  Running a process that wasn't supposed to be run as a service was taken over ad nauseam on Internet Google is your friend.

  Although it is possible to start the process as a service, however unless you use a program that can well handle the cessation of treatment and or restart the messages from the host and transmit them to the virtual machine, then it does not really work as a true service since it will not be the appropriate communication channels to activate the Virtual Machine to make a correct and controlled stop when the host is restarted or shutdown and that can damage the Virtual Machine.  If you plan to run a VM as a Service under VMware Workstation then I offer so you have good backups (which we should have anyway) and make sure you have access to working distance before running it as a service you can do a controlled stop on the VM before the reboot or shutdown of the host if you have not a utility appropriate to deal with it properly and safely.

  Another option is to use VMware Server, but keep in mind it seems to be the end of life and not maintained more.
