Anyone use VLC media player on their Mac?

Think to load VLC media player in my mini iMac with OS X El Capitan. Anyone used this software and no problems with it?

no problems

works great on windows and mac

plays pretty much everything I tried with it resists not a handful of crazy sick designed the codecs that come and go.

It's free

his stable

It's a very small footprint

There is not a lot of resources

It has got more features than iTunes and quicklime combined which are bloatware apple at this point.

So yes, I use it, I have confidence in it. I like it.

Note that this is a Legacy FAQ and contains information that is more current. See the update below for the current situation.

Dell technical support is to deny service guarantee for speaker damage if the popular VLC Media Player is installed on a Dell laptop. Also, we got a report that the service was rejected because a KMPlayer is installed on a laptop. The guarantee remains valid on the other parts of the laptop.

VLC has a function that can make the sound seems stronger than other players. VLC does this by using a process that creates a hard clipping (see below in this thread for explanation) which can damage the small speakers. Dell has tested VLC and checked the speakers may be damaged after several hours of use of VLC. I think that HP (Hewlett Packard) also asserts that VLC damage are not covered by the warranty.

If you choose to use the VLC Player, it is suggested that you do not set the volume to 100% to avoid potential damage to the speakers. If you contact Technical Support about a problem of speaker, it is suggested that you have not installed the player.

If you have already been rejected warranty service for a speaker only problem because you have the VLC Player, please see the next post which is marked "verified the answer." Send DELL - Terry B a private message. The way to do is to click on his link, which is its name in blue letters. This will take you to their profile page where you can click 'Send private message' or 'add as friend '.

    LAST UPDATED 27/01/2016

From 03/03/2014 exclusion is no longer applied to the models that have Windows 8 or 8.1. Exclusion still applied to systems of Windows 7 that did not have the latest audio driver and BIOS installed.

The latest version of VLC Media Player audio boosts only 125%, not the 200-400% of earlier versions, so the question is perhaps moot now anyway. (Note that there is still a risk if you use a software to increase the volume of more than 100%. Dell recommends not to go more than 90 %.)

    Great post Jimco

For those of you who have requested official documentation of Dell on the Please topic, take a look at the following link.

Problem with the volume while using VLC media player

When you use VLC media player, the volume can be increased to maximum power. Finally, it distorts the speaker output. If audio/video playback is made permanently using VLC with volume max (100%) over a period of time, then even if the volume is kept at a lower level sound would be distorted. This distortion is permanent.

    Why does this happen?

Some audio applications like VLC player will allow high power output per speaker, about 200 to 400% of the original audio production. In this case, excessive use can damage the speaker.

    What is the resolution?

If you use VLC or any other software amplification, ensure that the built-in audio output is set to 90% and the output volume of the software of the amplification is set to 95%

  • Scratchy Audio only when you use Windows media player

For more than a month now, when I use Windows Media Player 11 to play any audio file, the music sounds saturated and rough. The volume is louder than normal. It is on a 5 year old XP PC, and I haven't added new software or hardware lately.  I can play the same files on the same PC with other readers multimedia (VLC Media Player or Quicktime) and I don't have this problem, and it's okay if I use headphones or speakers. I tried to uninstall WMP11, but WMP10 has the same problem, and when her reinstalled WMP11 still sounds bad. I have also reinstalled the codecs windows audio. Any ideas?

Check the audio improvements and put them all turned off:
Begin playing a file and then click the arrow below the now playing tab, point to enhancements, click show improvements and then go through each of the options.

If you have a music video, your friends sing you could install a flash drive on the Web site. If it is just an audio file, you must download the file to a file free host then post a link to the file on the Web site.  If Windows Media Player comes into play depends on what media player the person clicking the link used as their default media player. Windows Media Player will play no role in the file on your website. The link below contains a list of free audio files, hosting sites. There are many others that you can find with a simple search on Google.

    Hello

    1. which version of the operating system is installed?

    2. is the VLC media player-specific question?

    Try the following steps.

Clean boot the computer and then try to open the VLC media player. Tuning your system to start in mode minimum state helps to identify third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

I could at some point... but now all I get is audio, no video.  The files open and work on

This all started when I upgraded Windows more late service CAP and also installed Real Player.

    Help!

    Hello

    • What version of Windows are you using?

    1. it is possible that you are missing the codec to play the file or it is clashing with other codec files.

    2. the link provided below lists supported by Windows Media Player file format.
It does not list the AVCHD or. MTS files supported file format directly:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/316992

    3. yet we cannot be sure at this point that the issue is due to interference with some files.

    Method 1:
Alternatively, you can perform a restore of the system to a previous point, when the issue was not present. The System Restore tool uses points of restore to return the system files and settings to an earlier point in time. You can use it to restore the operating system to a point in time where you have not experienced the problem.

Note: When you use System restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

To do this, there must be a restore point from the system in which the connection was successful.

Please refer to the below of the help links on performing a system restore.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-system-restore
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/system-restore-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 2:
You can determine which codec was used with a specific file; read the file in the player, if possible. When the file is playing, right-click the file in the library, and then click Properties. On thefile tab, look at the Audio codec and Video codec sections.

Then you can uninstall any installed codec and install that you need to do the job file.

If you have several codec for the single file to work they can clash and cause problems.

You can check the link for assistance on the issue - below

You can have more than one question. WMP and QT are not all the same types of files. I suggest that you follow these steps.

1: download and install K-Lite Codec Pack
    http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_full.htm

    2: restart.

3: do this for any type of file, you still have problems with.

    Create a file association.

    1. download and save the attachment to the office.
    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5. Select: Windows Media Player
    6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
    7. click on OK.

This should allow you to open these attachments directly from email address now. If not, post back with the types of files THAT WMP will not play.
