Anyone using cpuid.coresPerSocket?

I just tested two different 4 vCPU VMs.

VM #1 = 4 with the cpuid.coresPerSocket the value 1 vCPU

VM #2 = 4 vCPU with the cpuid.coresPerSocket value 2

And VM #2 has 2 times faster (scored a 7530) vs VM #1 (3778).

I is not the physical cores everything faster - but it allows a 4 vCPU use 8 cores where the default value is 4 vCPU hit 4 cores. I think that this would allow for an operating system that is limited to 4 CPU-

The virtual machine becomes faster (though not physical cores)- and I wanted to know if everyone used this with good results?

My current physical hosts are double 10 6-core or quad core, so I have a lot of places to leave the CPU more hearts.

Have you solved your problem? or a question?

My apologies if this has been asked before...

Is it possible to adjust the advanced configuration using PowerCLI cpuid.coresPerSocket?

    Hello, lldmka-

Yes, it is possible.  Thanks to the new property numCoresPerSocket in v5 of vSphere API (see http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.wssdk.apiref.doc_50/vim.vm.ConfigSpec.html&path=5_0_2_6_35_59), you can do this type:

    ## create the VirtualMachineConfigSpec with which to reconfig the VM$spec = New-Object -Type VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec -Property @{"NumCoresPerSocket" = 2}## get the VM, and, using the ExtensionData to access the API, reconfig the VM(Get-VM myVM).ExtensionData.ReconfigVM_Task($spec)

Or, if you're still on 4.x, you can use the property to ol ' ExtraConfig of the VirtualMachineConfigSpec, like:

    $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec -Property @{ ExtraConfig = New-Object VMware.Vim.optionvalue -Property @{ Key = "cpuid.coresPerSocket" ## set the value to 4 Value = 4 } ## end new-object} ## end new-object## get the VM, and, using the ExtensionData to access the API, reconfig the VM(Get-VM myVM).ExtensionData.ReconfigVM_Task($spec)

These two taking the virtual machine power cycle is taken into account, I think.  Enjoy.

  • problems with cpuid.corespersocket is not all hearts

    Hello

I have a dual CPU quad socket and I'm trying to set up a Server Windows 2003 32-bit standard to see all 8 cores available for it, but so far I didin't make OS see more than 4 processors, or cores. Affecting the vCPU 4 and hearts by the results of the 2 in only a 4-processor in the Task Manager, by using less than 4 vCPUs makes no difference in the change of cpuid.corespersocket. It's always show only what I put on the account of vCPU.

I'm testing a free license of ESXi 4.1 update 1, I can't implement 8 vCPUs with 2 hearts of each to test if it works.

What else can I do in this case to reflect the 8 cores inside the virtual machine?

    Kind regards

The free license as well as all other licenses except the Enterprise Plus license are limited to 4 vCPUs for a guest. If you are still in the period eval (60 days), you can set the host mode of assessment and value vCPUs 8 and carrots by socket to 4, which will result in 2 hearts virtual CPUs in guest OS:

Does anyone use iCloud as your main service (i.e. for synchronization, documents of cloud and primary email address)? I mainly use it as my primary service, but finds that she has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to Mail and web messaging on icloud.com - it is a bit old and lack of functionality.

Wonder if anyone has experiences and possible suggestions to fix/improve the service?

I use my account for all iCloud. It is my main email account, iMessage account, allows you to synchronize my calendars, is my main calendar, synchronize and stores my contacts, contains most of my personal documents (although I also use the box, Dropbox and OneDrive).

I had no problems with it. What features Miss do you? I rarely use iCloud.com. I mainly go there through the apps on my iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.

  • Does anyone use this switches in a data center?

I have an interest in the switches of SG-300 or SG-500 small businesses for small and moderate use.

These are rack switches, but my question is if someone is actually using them in a rack of data center with public servers rather than catalysts?

I understand that they are small business units, but they would hold the heat, vibration in a rack? How do they practice?

I have an older catalyst, it costs less than new now that some of this small business ones, but I really need gigabit for internal LAN traffic ports and my DC tells me none has this unit to small businesses in their DC, it is not normal to use because they are not high-performance switches. IM worried to go small businesses who are actually Linksys device and not Cisco. I have some Linksys devices for personal use and at home and they are still in years. But I Don t know how they perform outside of this environment. I need to stay under $ 1000 per switch.

They would fail in a few months? Can be clustered (2 switches) so if one fails the other take the network up until I have replace the failure? If so, I could take the risk, but one dying switch would be a disaster.

My needs are low speed gigabit between the servers for backup and storage, but usually less 50 Mbit on the public Wan. These switches are really only for small office use or if they work very well with the servers in an institution? If so, I'd love to hear some real experiences, everyone I ask most of them said not to go with the switches, but then why are they still rack? They can´t be this bad or that they are not really designed for 24/7 usage?

I'd appreciate some experiences with the amount of traffic you are passing on them and for how long (months) because I Don t know anyone use so far in a remote installation.

Catalyst has shared backplanes and ASICS. SX300 and SX500 series does not work. If you do not need things like the protocols of the road (BPG, OSPF, IS - IS), VTP, CEF then these switches are very good.

The switch has generally not hardware failure unless it is due to external voltage problems. A real failure, the MTBF is probably 4 or 5 years old, and I say this because the SX300 was not of the most and I've honestly never seen a die with the exception of power problems (storms, power surges, etc.). I saw ports to die only once and a while but that does not matter much because the switches are hardware to life with replacement free advanace...

If you plan to use these switches as a Ridge with high throughput, especially in layer 2, I seriously doubt you'll break this thing.

I am not yet sold on the robustness in environments of layer 3 but as a core for sub 300 people is a good switch. In response to another concept, the SX500X switches supports VRRP.

  • Is anyone using slides and inkjet with iPad iPad Pro or current Air2?

Larger than Pro iPad seems to be perfectly suited for use with ink & slide but Adobe and tutorials website lists the old model iPads as "compatible"?

Is anyone using side and with great ink jet (8 "x 10") iPad Pro?

If so, what apps do you use ink and slide with this larger unit?

I've tried the original apps (using my fingers, only), and they work but are buggy on the iPad Pro.

I am also interested to hear if anyone uses ink & Slide with the current iPad 2 Air?

I checked the auditor of the model number of Adobe compatibility for both of the above, and it is said that they are NOT compatible?

Ink and slides have been abandoned or will be updated apps and work with the iPad models currently available in the future?

Thanks in advance for all help with this!

    Hey digeratti,.

Unfortunately, the ink & Slide is not completely compatible with either of these models. I apologize for the frustrating experience, I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Regarding the iPad Pro, the best pen to use would be the pencil of Apple with the sketch in Photoshop or Illustrator to draw. I see that you have indicated that you are experiencing bugs when you just use your fingers. Please let me know which bugs you encounter when you use the key entry instead of a stylus.

    Thank you!

Anyone using Bootstrap of DMXzone extensions?

If so, what you opinion of this? I keep looking at them and wondering what's the biggest difference between them and DWs fluid grid design.

    Thank you.

As Bootstrap is, if you're a coder intermediate to advanced, I would not worry to buy extensions, I would use Bootstrap with less (source code) or Sass. Although I bought the extensions, I hardly use them.

Using their extensions to HTML5 data links and PHP database connector?

These extensions are a replacement for the Spry Data functions passed away (although incomplete). They are great, especially when the client side (ajax) coding is required. If you want a replacement for the deceased data links to Dreamweaver and server behaviors, and then it comes to go.

Yet once, there is an free of DMXZone extension so that you can try.

  • Virtual Server ignorant cpuid.coresPerSocket setting

    Hello

I was hoping someone could shed some light on a problem I've been.  I am trying to set up a virtual computer that is running windows server 2008 standard x 64 for 2-processor image.

The host machine running ESX 4.1 and has 2-4 core Xeon processors. on the Summary tab for the host it reports as having 2 Sockets 4 cores per socket and 8 logical processors.

On the virtual machine, I set up 8vcpus and I set the cpuid.coresPerSocket value to 4.  This should ask the operating system to start with 2 CPU each with 4 correct hearts?

However, whenever I try to turn on the virtual machine vsphere returns the error:

Could not find a host to turn on/off the virtual machine. The following faults explain why the registered host is not compatible.

Virtual machine has 8 virtual processors, but the host supports only 4. The number of virtual processors may be limited by the OS selected for the guest virtual computer or licensing for the host.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

You have the correct settings.  However, in order to run a guest with 8 vCPU you must have Enterprise Plus license.  What are approved for the?
