Anyone using DDR2 - 800 MHz PC2 - 6400 RAM on a Dimension E520?

I have a 8-y-o Dimension E520 with a CPU Q6600 and 4 GB of RAM PC2-5300 DDR2 - 667 MHz.

Max RAM is 8 GB so I did research what type of RAM would maximize the expected gain in speed.

According to this articleand this one as this thread of Dell, the E520 can accept RAM PC2-6400 DDR2 - 800 MHz.

In addition, in accordance with this sheet of Intel chipset 965 on the motherboard will have DDR2-800 MHz RAM.

I have noticed however that a sweep Crucial suggested DDR2-667 PC2-5300, like upgrading RAM later.

By no means discouraged, I advanced and bought 4 sticks of 2 GB of RAM DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Non ECC Unbuffered of 240 pins.

Then, installed the new RAM and started in the BIOS. Of course, the 8 GB of RAM is recognized.

Then started to Ubuntu. However, the initialization has failed before he arrived at the office.

Then started to Windows 7 (on the same machine, multiboot). Yet once again, began to start Desktop but bluescreened before that he (0 x 00000019 which seems to refer to the memory problem)

Reinstall all the RAM sticks and tried again with the same result.

Replaced the 4 GB of RAM has low gear and everything was fine.

So, is the RAM purchased dubious quality or not my E520 simply not accept RAM DDR2 - 800 MHz?

In the interest of anyone else might have the same problem or similar, I put the 4 sticks of RAM to the reseller and received four sticks of replacements of the same specification.

And they work perfectly in my Dimension E520.

Thus, in response to my original question, the absence of start-up stems from a faulty RAM.

  • Memory at 800 mhz PC2-6400 ddr2 at 667 mhz

I have the 800 mhz cpu T9500 in the Pavilion dv9700 laptop. I don't have the options in the Bios to change the speed of the memory, although it seems that the memory is clocked at 800 mhz and 667 mhz not. Does anyone know how to change this?

    Hello:

    That is right.

The mobile version of intel of the 965 chipset runs only the memory at 667 MHz and the desktop version of the 965 chipset running at 800 MHz memory.

A little known fact, but it is what it is.  See page 12 of the datasheet below.

So the qustion is: can I put 800 mhz RAM in my laptop? My motherboard supports 800 mhz ram?

    Thank you!

    Hi mate

The speed of RAM depends on the chipset FSB!
If the chipset would support 800 Mhz module RAM would you also with 800 Mhz.

But if the chipset does not support FSB 800 Mhz then you RAM modules would be locked at the speed that is supported by FSB

So you can use 800 Mhz but this makes no sense if the FSB is slower.

    You check the chipset properties!

    Hello.

    I have a X 200 with 2024 MB of ram.
I want to spend to 4048 MB ram.

Is it possible to buy memory ddr2 667 or 800 mhz can I use?
I think that my motherboard is as follows:
    Intel PM965 Express chipset.

If its so I can only use ddr2 667 mhz, can I then use any mark at all, or is it special that toshiba recommends?

You should be able to use the 800 Mhz modules, because the FSB supports 800 Mhz also.

    Hello!

Of course, you can use RAM DDR2-800. This is really no problem because the RAM is compatible downgrade. This means that the RAM can run with 800 MHz but at lower speeds too.
AFAIK the Tecra A8 has a 667 MHz bus speed so the new RAM will work with 667 MHz.

But don t forget to buy high quality RAM. I always buy Kingston RAM for my Toshiba laptop and they work perfectly. I never had problems with the Kingston RAM.

    Hello people,

Anyone know if my X 200 - 21U Satego really suports memory DDR2 800? In the site of the shop I bought my laptop, there is a possibility to install 4096 MB DDR2 (2 x 2 048) 800 MHz. Is this possible or just a scam or a mistake of the shop? What happens if it doesn\t support and I install anyway?

  • Problem of memory of Sony Vaio VGN-NR430e PC2-6400 Ram 2x2gb

    Hello

I acquired two Pc2-6400 2 GB modules each.

If a single module to install it, it works fine, but if I try to install both modules it will crash (same memtest doesn't). I have try all possible combinations and it only works with a single module. I still have the old memory DIMMS and if I install both it works.

The only difference is that this new PC2-6400 modules and the original are PC2-5300, but if the new one works I don't think that they are the problem. I even try a PC2-6400 and a PC2-5300, but still no luck, the system only accepts one module when a PC2-6400 is installed.

I tried to get an update of the BIOS but there is not, the specifications of the said laptop which has 4 GB of memory installed.

So for 4 GB, I need to have two modules of PC2-5300 or a 4 GB module?

    This direction is wrong?

    Thank you

    Felipe

    Hi pepipe,

Please provide the link that the unit support 4GB of RAM.  Of the card we have on Sony site Web shows 2 GB max.  Please take a look at the record here for VGNNR430E.

.. and Yes, you can use the module of memory 1 GB memory bank!

  • Satellite Pro U300-143 Ram DDR2 800 taken care of?

Hello, I am new to the forum.
Anyone know if it is possible to use DDR2 800 to replace the old 667?
The bus of the motherboard also goes to 800.
    Thank you.

    Hello

It makes no sense to use modules more rapid if the chipset would not support the front end of 800 MHz bus speed the FSB could slow down the speed of the memory at the same speed that is supported by front side bus.

I recommend you chipset. Then you will know, what the FSB speed is supported.
If the FSB would be favourable to 800 Mhz, you can use these modules.

  • Re: Satellite A200-1IZ - can I install RAM 800 MHz?

    I have a Satellite A200-1IZ and I want to change my orginal RAM memory 2 x 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 2x2gb 800 MHz DDR2. It will work properly with 800 MHz?
Here's something on the processor and RAM:

Intel Centrino Duo processor with Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor technology, card WLAN Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN and Intel PM965 Express chipset
    Clock speed: 2.0 GHz
    FSB: 800 MHz
    level 2: 2 MB cache
    Standard system memory: 2 048 (1 024 + 1 024) MB
    maximum extension: 4 096 MB
    technology: DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)

    Hello!

Theoretically, you can use the 800 MHz modules because they are compatible downgrade. This means that the RAM is also able to run at 667 MHz. as much as I know that the chipset supports only up to 667 MHz speed and you won't see a performance gain and you can also buy some RAM to 667 MHz.

In any case, I have good experience with RAM Kingston. I use the modules of this factory always for the upgrade of my notebooks.
Maybe this information is useful for you

    Good bye

  • Is Satellite A200 supports 4 GB 800 Mhz RAM

    Hello
I have the Satellite A200 - 1 m 7 with only 1 GB of ram and I think to upgrade to 4 GB of ram.

    My question is:
It is supported at 4 GB of ram, or it won't work?

And it is supported for ddr2 800 mhz memory speed?

    Thank you

    Hello

It depends on the bus front end (FSB) If your FSB supports 800 Mhz then you can use these modules and the modules would run at full speed.

According to this page, the laptop can be upgraded to 4 GB.
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=32477&ft=m&St=3

But note; 32-bit Windows will not be able to use the full 4 GB of ram due to the limitation of 32-bit.

    Best regards

  • Can I combine DDR2 667 MHZ DDR2 800 or lower on the Satellite A200 - 1 MB?

    Hello guys

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 - 1 MB and my uncle also has a hp Pavilion dv6183ea
and we are facing the same problem, the computer is delivered with 2 x 512 DDR2 667
We have to increase the Ram but the Ram DDR2 667 is no longer available in our market.
    The DDR2 800 is available
can I safely use the DDR2-800 on my A200 - 1 MB or use the combination of DDR2 667 with a new DDR2 800 with no problems on my computer or on the computer of the uncle?
I have windows vista and uncle is windows xp

    Thank you

    Hello

Usually, you can use modules of RAM and faster RAM module (in your case, DDR2 800 Mhz) would be clocked at 667 Mhz.
But in many cases, there are problems of compatibility in many cases, the laptop will not start using different Rams.

So I think that it of better to use exactly the same RAM modules to avoid these problems, but who knows, maybe you could mix without any problem, you will have to try this out!

  • Dv6000 series upgrade RAM - 667 or 800 mhz?

Hi, I am in the process of fixing my HP Pavilion dv6746tx laptop, running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
The graphics fried and I replaced the motherboard, but I'd also move from 2 GB to 3 GB of RAM while I'm there.

The question is, I noticed a lot of RAM 800 mhz and wonder:
    (1) is it useful to change the 667 and 800?
    (2) it is even compatible with this computer?
    (3) if I keep 1 x 1 GB 667 mhz and add 1 x 2 GB 800 mhz, all still work OK? (even if I don't get any benefit from the 800 mhz)

For the most part, I ask this because my local computer store seems to only sell the 800 and their price is c. good.

EDIT: I know that Aries provided with this computer is DDR2 - what difference would make DDR3 / would this work?

You cannot use DDR3, but you can use DDR2 800. It will downclock to match the other RAM and will work fine.
