App Store - spinning Cog

When I open the App Store on my iMac (21.5 inch Late 2103 2.7 GHz Intel i5, 8 Gb, El Capitan 10.11.4) all that I get is the spinning gear and no progress. No connection with the App Store and no update - nothing. I tried to restart, but without success. I tried to check out of the store with my Apple ID and connect but always without success. Any ideas anyone? Any help is appreciated.

Please test after taking each of the steps that you have not already tried it. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.

Sometimes, the cause of the problem may be an Apple network, whereby failure cases none of the steps below will have no effect. You just have to wait for the failure be fixed. This should rarely, if ever, take more than a few hours.

Step 1

Connect to the App Store by selecting Sign In in the Store menu. If you are already connected, disconnect and then reconnect.

Step 2

Remove or disable "Little Snitch", or any other third party software like that blocks outbound connections to network, in accordance with the instructions of the developer.

Step 3

In the menu bar, select

 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network

If the preferences window is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Click the Advanced button, and then select the Proxies tab. If any proxy are selected, make a note of and then deselect them. You need not change the bypass or the FTP settings. Click OK, and then apply. Test. The result may be that you can not connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if necessary.

Step 4

Log off or restart the computer.

Step 5

Start in safe mode and log on to the account of the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for additional instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run as normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things work at all, including an audio output and a Wi - Fi connection on some models. The next normal boot can also be a bit slow.

The login screen is displayed even if you usually connect automatically. You need your password to log on. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to reset it before you begin.

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode).

Step 6

If possible, connect to a different network and test.

Step 7

Reset the NVRAM.

  • When App Store starting spinning wheel

I often get a spinning wheel when starting the App Store on my iMac. It's still, sometimes accidents application after some time. On the internet I found some solutions (killing the app, removing plist files, doing a NVRAM reset,...). It helps, but the second time I start the App Store to the spinning wheel is back. It's annoying because I want to install the updates and I don't want to delete the plist files and make a NVRAM reset each time. Maybe someone knows a more permanent solution?

    Howdy Dennis,

How to test with another user account

You can find out if unexpected behavior is related to the user file or a parameter in trying to reproduce the problem to a different user account. This process includes creating a new user account, connect to it and test for the issue.

    Create a test user account

    1. In the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. Click the users and groups in the System Preferences window.
    3. Click the lock icon and enter an administrator name and password.
    4. Click on the button Add (+) below the list of users.
    5. Choose a type of user in the new pop-up menu.
    6. Give the user a name and first name, account name, and password.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Close the System Preferences window.

If there are documents from your user account that you want to test with original, place a copy of these items in the shared folder in the users folder. Press the Option key while dragging a file in this folder to create a copy.

Connect to the test user account

Log out of your current user account by choosing logout in the Apple menu, and then open a session the new account that you created. If you are prompted to login with your iCloud or Apple ID account when you log in, skip this step.

    Try to reproduce the problem

Try the same steps that caused the unexpected behavior to appear. For example, if you are unable to print, try printing from this user account. If you were unable to connect to the Internet, try to navigate on a website of this user account.

If you use specific test settings depends on (for example using a specific e-mail account or an account iCloud) implemented the same test user account. For email and other parameters, you can use the Internet accounts pane in system preferences to set up these types of accounts. If your home folder files are necessary for tests, copy them into the shared folder in the users folder (/ Users/Shared). After you connect as a user test, copy these items to the same location in the test user home folder to test with.

If a problem occurs in account only one user

Is using the same steps in a user account test does not cause the same unexpected behavior, most likely you don't need to reinstall applications or OS X.

    • If a problem occurs only in a single application, check the documentation or Web site for instructions on troubleshooting specific preferences or the definition of the application files.
    • If you need help with a problem or a specific alert message, search the Apple support Web site for the text of the alert message you see.

If a problem occurs in more than one user account

If the same unexpected behavior occurs in more than one user account on your Mac, try checking for software or hardware problems.

  • Cannot connect to the App Store, but can connect to iTunes

    Hello

I just bought my 2011 macbook pro model and tent put up however when I log in my details for identification for apple Apple store the Dungeon of the wheel rotates forever beside the details of the account and the next screen is not coming. I skipped the whole upward and opened the Mac operating system and tried to open a session on apple store directly, but always the same wheel turns in an interesting way, I can connect to iTunes. What is the problem with my macbook?

    Thank you

Note: I checked the internet connection and the software updates, and there is no problem with them.

I'm having a similar problem. The App Store icon shows that there is an update but when I open App Store I get the spinning wheel but nothing else. Any category I click (features, Top Charts, updates, etc.) I get the same. Help of the App Store is the same. I have not had problems before. This is on a Mac Mini (mid 2011) 10.11.3 running. App Store says Version 2.1 (459). Everything else seems to work very well. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Mac App Store does not load

    Hello

Since a few days, every time I click on Apple > App Store I get the window but nothing is displayed.  All I see is the dominoes of spinning in the upper left corner.  I left running for hours and nothing loads.  I clicked on the five tabs at the top (featured, bought,...) and that the action does nothing.  I restarted my Mac several times.  My Network works fine as I get emails, loading of pages in Safari, etc..  I use Little Snitch, but I do not see where its rules causes this problem, but I'm open to suggestions from other users of Little Snitch.

It's frustrating because I'm trying to reload an app where the dev suggested I remove and reinstall from the MAS as a troubleshooting procedure.

I know that this isn't a problem of system for Apple because the boards would be full of messages.

Any ideas on what is happening and how I can fix this problem?

    Thank you

    -Tod

I'm having a problem with the App Store.  I'm lance the store and do nothing else than a white screen with the spinning wheel in the upper left corner.

I can switch between the tabs, but nothing else does.  I tried to quit and relaunch the Bank several times.  I tried dumping the files of two preference of my library user (com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist).  The activity monitor does not appear anything that is not responding.  The App Store is completely stuck, always, when I open it.  Someone knows how to fix this?

Activity monitor is now showing "Content of Web App Store (not responding)".

  • Why is the app store not update/download apps

It has been more than a week.  I have 35 applications that need to be updates and new applications I want to achieve... downloaded and the app store is dead... just dead and useless.  I did research on the issue and none of the solutions I've scratched the work.  How Apple let this just drag?

In addition, I feel like that has happened, my battery seems to be draining much faster than usual.  I can't help but speculate that something is happening in the background of this phone and it's associated software.

If my version 9.2 is not the most recent, then my phone is not letting me check for later version software (an error pops up when checking for software updates in the settings... this small wheel just guard spinning that appears an error message).

If this continues, I'll have to bring my phone and I am seriously considering to return to Android.  I'm frustrated to say the least... and is preparing to launch this gigantic brick of a phone off the Bay Bridge.  Help!
