Application of total capacity MD3000

Hi - I have a MD3000 storage array and is currently considering adding more storage. I've been reviewing the current configuration and noted in MDSM this total capacity is 4.2 TB, but the drive of the Group (RAID 5-10 x 450 GB drives relief Inc.) only about 3.3 to has associated with it. Are we losing this disc ovehead or is something misconfigured?

Scottj22,

When it comes to the table and that it is a RAID 5 that it will take an entire disk for the redundant drive and it also allocates space for the bad blocks and meta-data on the disks.

I checked the product description to ensure it is listed as 64 GB and checked the model number that evokes as a 64 GB. Any ideas as to how this can be corrected? I reset all my settings, but that has not changed anything.

    Hello

    ·         Will there be any changes made before this problem?

Step 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.

If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any drivers\software update for the device.

Step 2: Check the hard disk for errors.

    Follow the steps in http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Note: When you run the disk check, there is a risk of data loss you can take a backup of your files before you run the disk check.

  • Differences in total capacity (MHz) reported by vCenter

I'm still looking through the documentation, but I hope that someone can provide a bit of insight.  When I am connected to our vCenter server and looking at the performance of the host tab, I have the ability to view the total CPU capacity for this host in MHz.

Each host has two processors 6 cores/CPU.  Up to 12 physical cores at 2 GHz each.  In theory, the total CPU capacity for each host is therefore right to approximately 24,000 MHz.  When I retrieve this metric to each host using a PowerShell script, it returns the expected number (approximately 23 988 MHz for each host.  However, when I look at the paintings of performance in vCenter for each host, it says that each host has a total capacity of 21 520 MHz CPU each.

Anyone have any ideas why these numbers are different?  Is it a kind of overload vCenter is subtracting these numbers when you view performance dashboards?

    Thank you!

Welcome to the community - vCenter reports what is available for virtualization - the divergence between abd 21.52 24 is that the ESXi host has its own need for CPU and that is subtracted.

  • Capacity again VMFS is less than the total capacity of all extensions

I recently created a new VMFS whose total capacity is not displayed. The "storage adapters" show all extensions.

Total capacity should be well over 4 TB. However, when I look in the 'Storage' view, I see a little more than 3 TB of capacity.

I just updated this server the latest patches for ESX 3.5 and restarted the problem remains. Any ideas what's happening?

    Hi Michael

I do know that if I missed something here, but you mentioned in your original post that you expect the data store to be larger than 4 TB, however, looking at the extent you've added, it only amounts to slightly more than 3 to what you did...

    i.e.

    5 = 1.53 TO LUN

    6 = 1.53 TO LUN

But LUN 7 does not seem to be 1.61 GB!  Is this right?

Re comments made by RParker on button increase... It is only seen on the vSphere Client VI wersion, not on version 2.5, you use.

Hops, it is logical, not sure if I got the wrong end of the stick here =)

  • ESXi 4.0.0 not allowing access to the total capacity of the RAID (FREE)

Hello everyone.  I'm new to ESXi, having installed just 4.0.0 on a custom server.  The hardware of the server is:

    Motherboard ASUS Z8PE-D12

    Asus PIKE 1068E SAS/SATA card

    5 x Seagate 1.5 TB 7200 RPM SATA drives

    2 x Xeon E5630 2.53 GH (Quad Core)

    etc...

Asus PIKE 1068E map uses FREE chipset to provide SAS/SATA RAID0/1/1E features.

I have configured three hard drives in an array of size 2.0 TB RAID1E using the accessible FREE configuration utility for the system to start.

I installed ESXi on another hard drive that is not part of a RAID array.

AprΦs dΘmarrage ESXi, I launch the vSphere Client and connect to the server.  I'm sailing on the Configuration - & gt; Storage section, then click Add storage... option.

I selected disk/LUN, then it lists the available devices.  I am able to see the FREE Serial Attached SCSI disk with a capacity of 2.05 to.  Then, I chose this drive to create a data store.

On the next screen, it shows the FREE Serial Attached SCSI disk device (and a very long identification number).  Ability displays 2.05 TB but 'Available' only 47,47 GB.  He also says "the hard drive is empty. (SEE SCREENSHOT)

"I can't find a way to increase the value of" available "to 2.05, which is the capacity of the disk. 47,47 Go is nowhere near capacity.  The program only allows me to create a store of data with 47,47 GB of space.

Anyone have any suggestions for access to the full size of this volume to add to ESXi as a data store?

It is not a driver problem, because the volume is properly recognized and the capacity is displayed correctly.  Not sure why it shows that 47,47 GB available.

    ALL SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

    Thank you!

I've attached a screenshot of the management screen showing the capacity and space available:

Basically, the size of your drive is greater than 2 TB, you can only use the left in space after 2 TB to be 2.05 TB, so it would be 47 about 50 GB seems straight, you disc 2 to - 512 b, must then he can use everything

  • Total capacity of the JBOD is not displayed

    Hi people,

Only, we have installed ESX on a new Sunfire x 4170 server and connected with a Sunfire JBOD 4200 with 12 TB of capacity. We installed the adaptec disk utility to create RAID 5 and set it to build / check the status.

Now when I do a fdisk - l disk/dev/sdc shows 9 to, however when I create a VMFS file system partition, it takes only 2 TB.

I used the vmkfstools command to create a file vmfs3 system and it shows 2 TB.

Any idea on what he may be wrong with my setup?

    Thanks in advance!

You can create extensions, but Bein that it is indeed similar to the creation of a RAID0 array, you loosed on LUN you will lose all your data.  It would make more sense to create a single JBOD and slice in the dimensions more suited to your needs, calculate your VM disk needs and create your lun sizes appropiately.  If you store all your VMS; s on a single LUN you risk locking of SCSI with be serverly degrade the performance of your infrastructure

    Hello

I think that this has nothing to do with the BIOS
The LBA is rejected in the HARD disk controller and it seems that the IDE controller supports only the 28-bit LBA.

The ATA - 6 defined as Ultra DMA/100 (also called Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100) supports the 48-bit LBA but first controllers IDE ATA - 5 and lower supports LBA 28 bits.

Akuma is right. This is a technical limitation and there is nothing you can do about it.

    Horky

The remaining computing power comes from the numere questioning power management drivers and is a fairly complex calculation based on current usage (the amount of energy is consumed), the capacity of the battery (what total capacity is left and how fully charged is battery) and can also vary depending on what else is plugged into the USB port of the computer , what accessories (memory, video card, etc.) are installed, how good or bad, the battery is to maintain a charge and so on.  There is no particular reason to believe that maybe outside the right-out-of-the-box everything two laptops will show the same calculation even if they are all the same brand and model.
