Are enough DVD recovery by themselves?

Hello

I intend to dual boot my laptop, with a Linux distribution. I have religiously created my recovery DVD discs and kept somewhere safe.

The machine already has 2 partitions, C:\ (Vista) and e:\ (Data). The data partition seems to contain only records collection, for the moment. However, I see a lot of conflicting info on different forums, on the recovery mechanism.

My question is if I can delete these folders and still be able to recover my system using the DVD only, or if the DVD based on the info from there, in this case, I have to make sure that I do not delete these files.

In the same line of questioning, if DVDs are enough, the MBR must be preserved during the installation of Linux, or can I use the Linux bootloader in there with happiness?

Thank you

Hello Ultwe

Computer Toshiba laptop does not come with recovery media and recovery image is recorded on the second partition in the file called HDDRecovery. To better understand how this works here a few facts for you:

-When the laptop to factory settings you can create your own recovery DVDs and use it whenever you want to have once again the factory settings.
-With the factory settings, you can also install Os using the recovery saved in folder HDDRecovery image. This can be done very easily. What you need to do is to press F8 to start high and choose repair my computer option > you enter the Vista System Recovery Options and Toshiba Recovery option is listed.

When you have created Recovery DVD and you have done this, you can do what you want with your laptop. You can delete the folder HDDRecovery you change partitions and do all kinds of experiences, but when you do this, you will not be able to use the recovery disk with F8 option. This will be gone.

In the future, if you want to have factory settings again, you can use recreated recovery DVDs and you'll have the same situation again clean Vista preinstalled with two partitions and, of course, you will have the folder HDDRecovery once again on the second partition.

So, if you want to dual boot, do this. Install the second OS, make the most of your laptop.
At the end one thing: answer to your question in question is YES.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

  • Can I copy CD DVD-recovery and start?

    Hello

    I need to know:

Is it possible to copy DVD-recovery on hard drive and then do a fresh install?
I did it in another computer. Put the hard drive inside the USB box and copy DVDs to recovery from another computer.

My laptop does not start a DVD (so far I can't find a compatible DVD-driver to replace the old and damaged - optical driver Toshiba say: no!).

The old optical driver was UJ - 831S
I bought: TS-L532A CSEL (after flash it inverted csel master OK, bat after formatted hard drive the bios doesn't recognize the optical driver, once again). Then, without windows, without optical driver, because that is not possible the flash.

I bought: UJ - 850 and the BIOS don't recognize it (I use the latest version of the BIOS)

    Hello

Well, it s very interesting question.
As far as I know on the Toshiba Recovery CD you will find a ghost to image files.
Usually it of possible to start up from the CD but I have never tried to use these files with Norton ghost utility.

But theoretically, you can try to place the files ghosts since the recovery CD on the second partition of HARD drive and then you can try to start the restore with Ghost utility procedure.

As I said I put t know if it will work, but you can try it. Please send feedback.
I m very interesting if it worked.

Now for your problem of disc; Looks like a non compatible drive. It happens because of the master/slave/c-salt settings. If the drive supports bad settings of the BIOS does not recognize the drive. In this case, you need a compatible.

  • Laptop HP 15-f162dx: THEIR is NO OPTION of DVD FOR DVD RECOVERY DISC CREATION IN the HP RECOVERY MANAGER'S

I HAVE HP 15-f162dx NOTEBOOK PC in WHICH I AM creating RECOVERY DVD DISCS IN "HP RECOVERY MANAGER", BUT in THE "HP - CREATE RECOVERY MEDIA" IS NO OPTION TO CREATE a DVD. EARLY CLAIM.

    CONCERNING

    Ok.

I don't see that as a real issue or problem.  The ability to create a recovery media is part of the purchase, and you do not have the ability to create a recovery media.

Why don't you use the option of USB flash drive?

The USB stick recovery is higher on the recovery DVD disc in a number of ways.

    (1) a usb flash drive are not damaged by just scratching the surface, unlike the DVD in a set of recovery disks. A scratch on the side of disc label #1 and the whole is unusable.

    (2) a recovery, when from a usb flash drive takes less than an hour, so that once made with one set of recovery disks can take up to four hours.

    (3) not all DVD media can be used to create a reliable recovery DVD media.

    (4) DVD media can be easily destroyed by heat, if you live in a region of the world where the temperature is normally high.

    (5) usb recovery media creation takes less than an hour, compared to the time it would take to make a recovery of the DVD disc.

  • Satellite M40 - 136 product dvd recovery

    Hello

I have problems with my laptop Satellite M40 136 I bought a year ago. If I close down the machine when I then turned it on it would give me a screen saying there is a problem in Windows and gave me the option 'Start windows normally', 'start with the last successful settings', 'start in safe mode', 'start in safe mode with networking' or 'start in safe mode with command prompt '. It would usually take several attempts before that Windows would fire up ok, any option to choose. However yesterday any have repeatedly tried it would not be in windows.

I decided that I need to use the dvd - rom product recovery is a relocation complete (fortunately I had saved my personal files). I did it, but at the end when he says 'ctrl-alt-del"to restart, reboot I got the same message"problem going into windows"with the same options. I repeated the recovery process 2 more times with no luck.

This morning, he did go further and asked me to go through the installation process of Windows (i.e. giving the phone a name, asking if I wanted to save the machine with toshiba/microsoft etc.) However he then pop up with the message "problem going into windows" with the options that I mentioned earlier. I choose any option that he ends up back on the same screen.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    HI Nicky,

It is possible that you have a problem with your hard drive. The operating system will always be usually resident in the same sectors of the hard drive even after a re-installation using your recovery CD, the same sectors of the hard drive will be used to store the files of the OS.

I suggest that you try to run a CHKDSK/F on your hard drive to see what it brings. Of course id there are lots of bad sectors then will consider you replacing the hard drive.

    Kind regards

    Hello

Format the HARD drive and try to restore the system using the disk recovery once more.
If this does not work, then several reasons could be responsible for this problem.

    (1) the recovery discs are corrupted, or not created properly
    (2) the HARD drive or partition is may be defective

If reocvery discs are defective, then you can order a new one by clicking here:

  • New Satellite P50 - A but no CD/DVD recovery

    Hello

The new portable does contains recovery dvd or something like that!

Before the years there was recovery DVDs or files of information retrieval are on a drive then I burn.
This time. I wonder how if my windows 8 crashes and need to re - install! , or relax all original factory data! How can I do it!

    Kind regards

Toshiba (and as far as I know a few other laptop manufacturers) don't provide any recovery disk in the package.
For the most part, you create this collection yourself by using the media of Toshiba recovery disc Creator called preinstalled software. Check your pre-installed programs.

For Toshiba Recovery media creator allows you to create the recovery disk (3 DVD) or a flash memory stick recovery (I assume that you will need a 16 GB USB key)

I just lost my windows vista DVD and now just format the C drive. But I saw there are still available on the drive D. can recovery drive please tell me how to run recovery or restore the origional windows vista again.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

You will need to contact the system manufacturer's support, as each has its own methods of restoration.

Also they will sell you the Vista DVD at low cost since you already Windows. Know you
need the code produced so if you do not then discuss with them. Sometimes the
product code is located on the computer or included with the paperwork.

    I hope this helps.
