Are formats QuickTime the only way to incorporate subtitles?

I can't integrate subtitles encoded in any format outside of QuickTime.  I need to incorporate for television purposes so that the viewer can turn them on and off.  However, the format QuickTime spits a 23 GB file as opposed to a 2 GB file that would be an .mp4 file.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi davidm35772619,

Please refer to this document: learn to work with captions in Premiere Pro [the last section is supported formats]

Thank you
