    Hi Elizabeth,.

It is definitely a scam any.  Microsoft did not communicate people this way.  Ignore them - hang up on them.  In addition to not let them connect to your system, do not allow direct you to a Web site or download anything they suggest - it can be worse than just a marketing effort and an attempt to infect, hack, get information about identity theft or otherwise affect your system (and it may be an effort to marketing as well to infect and then you sell a product to remove infections - which may or may not) not work and most likely the product itself is an infection still further or hacking).

Good job on caution and check first.  Play well!  You yourself have potentially saved a lot of grief.  They are the same type of thing by e-mail, and Microsoft is not communicate with people that way either about this sort of thing, then ignore and junk all these messages and DO NOT open the attachments to these messages.  Just remove them completely.

    Good luck and best wishes!

Original title: watch videos on media player

I have an old computer for my son with XP on it. I tried to play some movies that I downloaded, but it says that I need the right codec to play. How can I fix that I can watch these videos?

    Hello

    1. what version of windows media player do you use?
    2. what type of media files are they?

Check the following article to see if these files are supported by the Windows media player installed on the computer. If these files are not supported, then you will need to download the third-party codec to play.

Some scientific tests of the twentieth century indicates that all caps text is less readable and less readable than the text to lower case. Colin Wheildon said there is an '' apparent consensus '' tiny text is more readable.

  • Can manage Windows XP Home Edition of Windows 8? Get the error codes for the security updates (0 x 643). ALL through Microsoft Tech INFECTED with the virus and Trojans tried. I need help BADLY. Thank you.

I tried every thing blessed with technology microsoft... always hanging in limbo here.  Tired of doing constant comprehensive analyses, etc. in order to remove the constant threats.  Apparently my McAfee can't stay with her either.  Need help with the download/repair these seeds as soon as possible.  Thanks to all those who wish to help me - it would be that popular, for sure!

    The question makes no sense.

"Can manage Windows XP Home Edition of Windows 8?"

Two problems: there is no Windows 8 and even if there were, Windows XP Home Edition would not not 'manage '.  ;-)

I drop McAfee for a few different freeware products.  Or better yet I'd get two products 'cost' (~ 25 and 60 dollars) and install them and use them in the future - but WHEN you are trying to clean up.

You seem like you maybe sincerely - at a time when a format/install of Windows XP/patching/installation of applications/patch/restore backups of your data is the best course of action.

However, if you are willing to work - maybe we can at least get things cleaned up to a certain point where you can get a good backup before doing this (otherwise avoid doing all together.)

In the order shown, do not jump (no matter what you do, what you have done in the past, etc.) ...

First of all - download, install, operate and put to update and then run a full system scan with the following two (one at a time, reboot in-between):

After you perform a full scan with one then the other and remove anything they have all two are completely, you can uninstall these products, if you wish.  This initiative will allow to check there is no malware floating around your system which could cause problems.  If you ask - no, Norton probably does not protect you from what these applications can find.

Download and run the MSRT tool manually:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
(Ignore the details and download the tool to download and save to your desktop, run it.)

    Reset.

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

    Reset.

Download/install the latest program Windows installation (for your operating system):
    (Windows XP 32-bit: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3 - x 86 .exe )
(Download and save it to your desktop, run it.)

    Reset.

    and...

Download the latest version of Windows Update (x 86) agent here:
    http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91237
... and save it to the root of your C:\ drive. After you register on the root of the C:\ drive, follow these steps:

Close all Internet Explorer Windows and other applications.

    AutoScan--> RUN and type:
    %SystemDrive%\windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /WUFORCE
    --> Click OK.

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

    Reset.

Now try usig the Fixit (Yes - try to use it again) to reset your Windows Components Update (you'll do the aggressive version, not the other):
How to reset the Windows Update components?

    Reset.

    CHKDSK
How to scan your disks for errors* will take time and a reboot.

    Defragment
How to defragment your hard drives* will take time

    Reset.

Now, open Internet Explorer, visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and do a CUSTOM search for updates.  Install any critical/high-priority ones and - for now - to ignore all those in option (always do this for material updates optional here.)

Restart if necessary and continue to visit this web page until you have not yet updated to high priority.

Now - if your problem is with the facilities of the .NET Framework...  You can end up with something like:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
to uninstall a few versions of the .NET Framework, then you can try to install again - but you should not do this until the machine is supposed to be cleaned.

N ° any message in a web browser saying that a Mac OS X system has a virus or other software malware is a scam; some sites Web legitimately analyzes the files uploaded to them, but is unable to scan the entire system.

Even on Windows, unless you manually ran a scan of malware in your web browser, the same applies.

  • I received the call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft that I had a virus pirate online.

I was suspicious and told them I couldn't go online at this time.  HOWEVER, I asked if I could call them to the time when I was available and he gave me the 213-221-3528 next number to call back, said his name was Mike.

I hope this can help you track down these people.  Thank you.

I think what zigzag3143x is trying to say is that there are a lot of scamming operations all over the world to do this kind of thing - they close down and then spring up somewhere else. Therefore, it is difficult to track them down.

Keep you aware of the scams is one of the best ways to protect yourself against scams. Anti-virus software, etc. is important, but is only a part to keep you protected.
