ASA Configuration of VPN Site to Site - NAT issues
Greetings,
I am responsible to configure a VPN connection from site to site to a business partner in which I want to firstly NAT to my internal IP to a public IP address and then send it through the tunnel, and vice versa when they try to access my servers I want to get to them through the external IP address. Here's what I think I do, but I was wondering what were the thoughts of the community.
All of the IP addresses represented below are fictitious.
Internal servers Public IP address
10.50.220.150 208.180.170.182
10.50.220.151 208.180.170.183
10.50.220.152 208.180.170.184
Local peer IP: 208.180.254.29
Distance from peer IP: 207.190.218.31
Local network: 208.180.170.0/24
Remote network: 207.190.239.0/24
From my understanding, NAT occur before being sent to a tunnel, or to the internet, etc, so the configuration that I think I need is the following:
NAT (inside) 0 access-list sheep
NAT (inside) 2 10.50.220.150
NAT (inside) 3 10.50.220.151
NAT (inside) 4 10.50.220.152
Global 2 208.180.170.182 (outside)
overall 3 208.180.170.183 (outside)
Global 4 208.180.170.184 (outside)
IP 208.180.170.0 allow Access-list extended sheep 255.255.255.0 207.190.239.0 255.255.255.0 (do I still need this since coordinated to a public IP address still?)
access-list s2s client scope ip 208.180.170.0 allow 255.255.255.0 207.190.239.0 255.255.255.0
Route outside 207.190.239.0 255.255.255.0 207.190.218.31
card crypto off peers set 1 207.190.218.31
Crypto card outside 1 correspondence address s2s-customer
[... rest of the configuration failed..]
That look / her right? If this isn't the case, please advise.
Thank you.
Yes.
PAT (nat/global) will take care of outgoing and static traffic will take care of incoming traffic.
You can create political NAT as well to handle this traffic.

(Q) ping remote ip unable on ASA is not Firewall not on pc (VPN site to site on SAA) configired no proxy, icmp not inspect, no chance
Note - I can ping PC but not the same subnet ip on ASA2 L3
PC---> > ASA1 - ASA2<>
Hi Matt,
Let me answer your question in two points:
- You cannot ping an ASA on another interface other than the one where you are connected to the ASA of.
For example, ASA1 and ASA2 are connected through their interfaces 'outside '. ASA1 (or any other device on the external interface) can not ping/access ASA2 on his (ASA2) within the interface. The only time wherever this can be substituted is a tunnel VPN with the command "access management" configured for other interface, for example management-access inside
- Traffic ASA1 ping to a remote client behind ASA2 won't over the VPN tunnel and as such is not encrypted. That's because ASA1 will forward traffic based on its routing table that probably this way through its 'outside' interface Except that traffic is allowed with the ASA2 (using the ACL), it will fail.
We can do on the routers of sourcing our ping to another interface, but it will not work on the SAA.

Can the NAT of ASA configuration for vpn local pool
We have a group of tunnel remote ipsec, clients address pool use 172.18.33.0/24 which setup from command "ip local pool. The remote cliens must use full ipsec tunnel.
Because of IP overlap or route number, we would like to NAT this local basin of 172.18.33.0 to 192.168.3.0 subnet when vpn users access certain servers or subnet via external interface of the ASA. I have nat mapping address command from an interface to another interface of Armi. The pool local vpn is not behind any physical interface of the ASA. My question is can ASA policy NAT configuration for vpn local pool. If so, how to set up this NAT.
Thank you
Haiying
Elijah,
NAT_VPNClients ip 172.18.33.0 access list allow 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
public static 192.168.33.0 (external, outside) - NAT_VPNClients access list
The above configuration will be NAT 172.18.33.0/24 to 192.168.33.0/24 when you go to 10.1.1.0/24 (assuming that 10.1.1.0/24 is your subnet of servers).
To allow the ASA to redirect rewritten traffic the same interface in which he receive, you must also order:
permit same-security-traffic intra-interface
Federico.

ASA 5505. VPN Site-to-Site does not connect!
Hello!
Already more than a week there, as we had a new channel of communication of MGTSa (Ontario terminal Sercomm RV6688BCM, who barely made in the 'bridge' - had to do the provider in order to receive our white Cisco Ip address), and now I train as well more that one week to raise between our IKEv1 IPsec Site-to-Site VPN tunnel closes offices.
Configurable and use the wizard in ASDM and handles in the CLI, the result of a year, the connection does not rise.

Please explain why it is that I don't want to work?Hello
When the IPSEC tunnel does not come to the top, the first thing comes to my mind is to run a tracer of package from the CLI and the phases in it. Please run this command from your firewall side and share the output. I've just compiled this command with the random ip address and ports of your given range.

ASA 8.3 VPN site-to-site does not UDP traffic to other peer
Hello!!!
Someone turned off the lights :-) I say this because that's 6.2 6.3 I can't get the basic things...
On a SAA, I created a "site-site" VPN profile to connect to a remote site, on the other side (ASA 8.2) sees no problem, I can pass all IP traffic via VPN without NAT; but on a new ASA5505 with 8.3 (1) version fw and ASDM 6.3 (1) can't do that in any way :-(
What I get is trivial...
... It works perfectly with TCP and ICMP traffic, but does not have UDP traffic: in practice, if I followed the traffic to a remote private IP, TCP and ICMP traffic I see only packets in vlan "inside" with the private IP, but with the UDP traffic on top of that, I see traffic on vlan 'out' with the IP public ASA and source port changed :
Inside: UDP to 172.16.2.128:6000 to 172.16.0.200:6000
Outside: UDP to 5.5.5.5:23400 to 172.16.0.200:6000Why?
Of course, the traffic is not encrypted and does not reach the other side of the tunnel!
Here are the important parts of the configuration:
interface Vlan1
nameif inside
security-level 100
172.16.2.1 IP address 255.255.255.0network obj_any object
subnet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0remote network object
172.16.0.0 subnet 255.255.254.0outside_cryptomap to access extended list ip 172.16.2.0 allow 255.255.255.0 network remote control object
NAT (inside, outside) static source any any destination static remote-remote network
network obj_any object
NAT dynamic interface (indoor, outdoor)
card crypto outside_map0 1 match address outside_cryptomap
outside_map0 card crypto 1jeu pfs
card crypto outside_map0 1 set ip.ip.ip.ip counterpart
outside_map0 card crypto 1jeu nat-t-disable
outside_map0 interface card crypto outside
Given that the new business object, I have not yet quite clear (ok, I don't find time to do a deep reading of the documentation), someone is able to direct me to fix this trivial?
Note: If I remove my drive manual nat and I flag "network translating" on the remote network object thus indicate that they want NAT with ip network remote control then don't work any IP vs. remote site traffic. Why, why have not more than the simple rules of 'nat exception' the old version and why the crypto-plan applies only to TCP traffic? Possible that there is an object any which takes all IP traffic?
A big thank you to all.
73,
Arturo
Hi Arturo,.
I know that there is a certain NAT related bugs in 8.3 (1) and although I don't remember a specific which corresponds to your symptoms, I would say you try 8.3 (2) instead, or maybe even the last available version of a temp (currently to 8.3 (2.4):)
If you still see the problem, then, check
entry Packet-trace within the udp 172.16.2.2 1025 172.16.0.1 detail 123
entry Packet-trace inside tcp 172.16.2.2 1025 172.16.0.1 detail 123
and check what's different.

the WAN connection becomes too slow after you have configured the VPN (Site Site)
Hello
I have two branches connected via WAN (MPLS) connection using two 2921 routers.the connection is 2 M.
I set up a VPN between these two sites, but after the connection has become very slow.
y at - it something I can do to speed up the speed of connection.
VPN proposals are:
Proposals of the phase 1: 3DES, pre-shared,.
Phase 2 proposals: esp-3des esp-sha-hmac
I don't think that lower levels of security proposals will add a lot to the speed...
Hi Marc,
one thing you should definitely is a hardware encryption go if you do not already tht, it also reduces the load on your cpu
You can try other things is play with mtu, according to your line mtu and what applications are mainly used. try setting the mtu of at least 60 odd bytes lower than the mtu and also sometimes server line recommended mtu settings like server many have obligation to mtu to 1300 or 1400, if that's not it can cause a lot of re transmissions, you can also try fragmentation before encryption

Ping of ASA to remote VPN site
I am haivng a weird question. I have two ASA in place with a VPN tunnel from site to site between the two. The traffic is through the tunnel without problem. I have a whole allowed for the two locations on the tunenl IP. The issue I'm having is that when I'm on the ASAs I'm not able to ping what anyone at the remote location. PC between locations communicates very well via the VPN tunnel however.
The reason that I need is to have the ASAs information to syslog for my syslog server appliances. Y at - it something that I'm missing that will allow the ASA contact materials at the remote location?
When you try to ping, do you "ping inside?
Also, your custom logging, haven't you set up "logging inside the host"?

Cannot access remote network by VPN Site to Site ASA
Hello everyone
First of all I must say that I have configured the VPN site-to site a million times before. Stuck with it. First of all I can't ping outside the interface of my ASA remote. Secondly, VPN is in place, but no connectivity between local networks

ciscoasa # $Still, I can't ping ASA remote outside from outside of the Local interface. And there is no connectivity between the 192.168.80.0 distance and local don't say 192.168.1.0. I have run out of ideas
Would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance...
If the tunnel is up (phase 1), but no traffic passing the best test is the following:
Add order management-access to the Interior , and then try to PING the intellectual property inside ASA counterpart.
inside x.x.x.x ping --> x.x.x.x is the IP of the ASA peer inside
The test above shows if the traffic passes through the tunnel (check encrypted/decrypted packets of sh cry ips its).
Test on both directions.
Please post the results.

Issue of ASA vpn site to site isakmp
Hello
He has been asked to configure on ASA a new vpn site-to-site. For that vpn should I put:
crypto isakmp identity address
crypto ISAKMP allow outside.. the configuration of my identity crypto isakmp is automatic and isakmp crypto is not enabled on any interface. I love vpn with ike enabled on the external interface. My question is: why should I enable isakmp on the external interface and especially can create disturbances to ike vpn that are already in place?
By elsewhere-group or tunnel-group strategy, it was me asked to set up, the two do not have indication of ike. Never seen this kind of configuration before vpn, something new.
Thank you
Hi, Giuseppe.
The crypto isakmp command activate outside changed ikev1 crypto Enable outside in the new ASA versions you need not enable this.
There is also no need configure isakmp crypto identity address such that it is set to auto.
This command indicates that the tunnel would be negotiated on the basis of the IP address but since it is set to auto it on it own will therefore not need to specify this command.
Yes, you can create a new group policy group for this new tunnel and tunnel and there should be no impact on other tunnels of work.
Kind regards
Aditya

ASA 5505 <>ASA 5510 VPN Site to Site
Try to configure a vpn site-to site beetween an ASA 5505 and a 5510. I can't get anything thrown, there are now debugging messages or the other. I must have done something wrong, I followed this paper: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a0080950890.shtml but I can't make it work. Anyone can have a peek at my configs, maybe I forgot something.
OK, if you go ahead and add this command to all two firewalls 'inside access management' and try to one side inside the 10.21.32.10 ping always nothing passing by?

VPN site to Site with NAT (PIX 7.2)
Hi all
I hope for more help with config PIX. TBH I would classify myself as a newb on PIX, only dabbling in it every 6 months or so...
I have to configure a VPN site-to site between our UK and US Office, to replace our frame relay link. I have configured multiple VPN site to site on the before PIX, so am reasonably okay with the appearance of the config of who. What is a new concept for me is the needs of NAT'ing between the IPSEC tunnel.
The U.S. Agency requires us to NAT source addresses (i.e. 192.168.1.0) usable on their side address (i.e. 143.102.89.0). The tunnel must then be set to encrypt traffic between 143.102.89.0/24 and 172.24.0.0/14.
I added the following config and hoping to test it at the U.S. office happens online today.
If I Ping from 192.168.1.0 to 172.24.x.x source and run a SH NAT inside, the NAT translation seems good.
is the intellectual property inside 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 outside 172.24.0.0 255.252.0.0

Thank you very much

You can configure NAT/Global pair for the rest of the users.
For example:
You can use the initially configured ACL:
policy-nat-dallas-list of allowed extensive access ip 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 172.24.0.0 255.252.0.0
NAT (inside) 1 access list policy-nat-dallasGlobal 1 143.102.89.x (outside)
The static statement that you configured previously will take precedence over the above. So the printer gets statically using a NAT to 143.102.89.10, and the rest can do another ip address 143.102.89.x PATed.
Please note that for PAT, traffic can only be initiated from 192.168.1.0/24 LAN to 172.24.0.0/14, not the other way around.
Hope that helps.

[VPN Site-to-Site] Network that overlap
Hello
We have a Cisco ASA 9.1 and many VPN clients that work very well to this topic.
Now, he must connect to a partner with VPN Site to Site site.
We have a few problems:
- Duplication of IP address (we use 10.145.0.0/16 10.0.0.0/8 and partner use)
- Partner cannot use NAT on the router
What are the best solutions to configure the VPN Site to Site?
Thanks for your help,
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
Best option here is that you can specify the required subnets only in the field of /encryption cryptomap...
said in other 10.0.0.0/8 need access only a few subnets 10.1.0.0/24, 10.10.20.0/24... You can specify only in your crypto acl... Alternatively, you can use refuse instruction for the specific 10.145.0.0/16 crypto card but am not sure if this gives you the best result.
If you have the required access is mixed with several 10.x.x.x/8 instructions... then you can have the crypto ACL like sub areas of encryption... Here you jump only 10.145.0.0/16 of the subnet range...
10.0.0.0/9 to 10.145.0.0/16
10.128.0.0/12 to 10.145.0.0/16
10.146.0.0/15 to 10.145.0.0/16
10.148.0.0/14 to 10.145.0.0/16
10.152.0.0/13 to 10.145.0.0/16
10.160.0.0/11 to 10.145.0.0/1610.192.0.0/10 to 10.145.0.0/16
but make sure you have not all servers in 10.145.0.0/16 on your local network that the client requires access...

[VPN site to Site] Are route explicit LAN remote necessary?
Hello
I have configured the VPN Site to be used inside the interface of the ASA (9.4.1)
- The computer in the Zone 1 (192.168.1.1), I can access the Intranet all and it works without a problem--> all traffic through the VPN.
For example, I can use 10.0.0.1 on remote desktop.
2. in the other direction, 10.0.0.1, I try to use the remote desktop on 192.168.1.1, the traffic is not routed over the VPN.
Journal: ' build incoming TCP connections to inside:10.0.0.1/1539 outdoors: 192.168.1.1/3389.
In case 1 (when it worked), he says "build the incoming TCP connection for inside:192.168.1.1/2039 to inside:10.0.0.1/3389.
To fix it, I had to add specific route on ASA: 192.168.1.0/24 inside
It works on both directions.
Is this a normal behavior?
I thought that cryptomap and IPSec SPI would be sufficient.
Thank you
Patrick
Yes, because the cryptomap is mapped to the output interface. The research of the way occurs before you hit the cryptomap. The opposite lane works because you already have a connection (in which are defined interfaces to use).

VPN Site to Site not upward Tunel on a router
Hello
First time I try to configure the VPN Site to Site on the two routers X and Y. I use cisco SDM
X router that I have set up on this path http://www.tekkom.dk/mediawiki/images/e/ee/IP_sec_site-to-site_sdm.pdf
Then I create a mirror and spent on router Y I tunel up VPN router Y.
But I have problem with router X. When I try to the top of Tunel, I have two problems:
The peer must be routed through the crypto map interface. The following host is routed through the non-crypto map interface. (1) 79.*. * **. **
(79.* *-it is the WLAN router address Y)
Destination of traffic of the tunnel must be channelled through the crypto map interface. The destination following (s) is routed through non-crypto map interface. (1) 10.*. * **. **
(10.* *. *-is router LAN address Y)
Configuration of routers in the files.
Apologies for the lack of your answer.
You have the same card encryption applied to the physical interface and dialer0 interface. You can try removing it from the dialer0 interface and a new test.
If it does not can try you backwards IE. remove physical and apply to the dialer0 only.

Split tunneling VPN site-to-site
Dear all,
I have two ASA 5510 with VPN site-to-site, I can send all Internet traffic to the central site (HQ),
How to set the split tunneling to access Campus LAN (192.168.2.0/24) of LAN2.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards
Zoltan
You can have 'decline' instruction on your ACL crypto and he will deviate the traffic is encrypted to the site-to-site VPN tunnel.
