Assignments of Z1 workstation dual 2.5 drive

I have a workstation z1 with 2 factory 2.5 "SSD (C & D drives). However, I prefer to replace 1 of version 2.5 with a disc more SSD for only the D (or disc 1) capacity. My question is when watching the 2 identical drives in the carrier, how do you know that one is D? Or should I remove each individually and see which then does not start?

Hello proznik

In case you do not see my message on your other post, I would like to inform you that the z1 HP workstation is a commercial product and you'll have a much better chance to find an answer on the Forum Commercial from HP. In the HP consumer forum there is not a lot of people familiar with commercial products.

  • Using dual-boot provided drive recovery XP on Portege R500 - 11 c

I have a new Portege R500 - 11 c that came with Vista Business installed, but has also a recovery disk XP Pro as a Vista recovery disk. Also, the laptop came with a partitioned hard drive.

I would use the XP Recovery disk to install XP on the 2nd partition (drive E), without deleting Vista, while I have a dual-boot machine. Anyone know if this is possible, perhaps using the expert mode and standard?

    Hello Elanor

Just a short comment to this:

    > When I asked Toshiba support if I could use these discs to a machine with dual-boot, they said no, that the XP > recovery disk would erase the Vista installation - but the posts here think otherwise!

I don't know on which positions you think, but I'm also sure that you can not use two DVD recovery with different operating systems to install two operating systems and dual-boot. Unfortunately I do not have the opportunity to test this, but as far as I know, you can not install recovery image on disk unallocated space.

Just for example: If you are using Vista recovery DVDs and install the OS on the new partition using the CONFIGURATION option (for example, you can take 50% of the capacity of the HARD disk) by using recovery second DVD (WXP) you will not be able to choose as favorite place second partition to install Windows XP Home edition. You can just do the same as with the Vista recovery image.

For the recovery of laptops old menu was different and using the expert mode, it is possible to choose an already existing partition for the installation of the OS.

If you have time please test and give some feedback. It can be very useful for al of us info.

  • Problem with VMWare Workstation combo, .vhd virtual drives and physical disks in the sector of size 4K?

    All,

I suspect something wrong with some of my virtual machines.  I have been using these virtual machines for a while, and I see some weird behaviour recently.

I see a lot of corruption in the virtual hard disk (.vhd based).  CHKDSK automatically gets performed many large files such as Oracle datafiles get damaged etc...  It all seems quite random and inconsistent, but I am using .vhd virtual machines in VMWare Workstation for years without problem.  This problem is new, and hard drives are basically unstable.

I * think * (and I'm totally off base) that is perhaps the issue with my new external hard drives.  These discs have a 4 KB sector size, without e512.  Thanks to this architecture of hard drive, don't mount not the tools of Microsoft or manupulate .vhd files on these disks.  The questions seem to go away if I switch to vmdk or switch to the physical hard disk size-one-sector 512kb.  Because errors are not compliant, that I don't really have a way to document/prove that is the case, but it seems to be.

I use version 9.0.0 on Windows 7 Workstation, and the guest is Windows Server 2008R2.

    My question is:

    (1) what meaning?

    (2) how I prove/document, since it is a contradiction?

    (3) is this a known problem?

(Btw, switching HDD's vmdk is not an option in our case due to an obscure legal agreement with Microsoft.  I have to distribute my VMs in vhd format, even if they are designed to run on VMWare...)

    -> Adam

These discs have a 4 KB sector size, without e512.

(I've highlighted "without e512" in "BOLD" to key in my answer to the host operating system.)

    -L'OS is Windows 7 Enterprise

According to the political support for the 4 K sector hard drives in Windows, Windows 7 does not support the native 4 K (logical 4 k sector size) but it does not support Advanced Format or 512th (size of logical sector physical and 512 bytes of 4 K) and that is can be the question.

  • Issue of license of workstation trading at SSD drive

I am a newbie to VM workstation and enjoy my development on my laptop Lenovo laboratories.

Having recently added a second SSD I now want to move it's the startup disk on my laptop computer host.

If I do a complete reinstallation doesn't this invalidate the license with VMWARE?

If not, is there a better way I can instant somehow my current laptop build and then reinstall it on the new drive or is it simply impossible.

BTW my current drive is 330GB with a recovery partition, whereas the new SSD 128 GB.

    Thank you

    Cardy

I'm sure it is possible to move the existing install on it, but it would be just as easy to re-run the installer of the OS. Personally, I prefer to rebuild in these scenarios.

  • dual-boot reinstall drive on Win 7

It is a desktop Dell Inspiron dualboot computer.  I upgraded both drives to win 10 and then knocked over a drive for Win 7.  Bad move!

I was warned that I would need to reinstall the programs.

I can't Adobe Reader to resettle on Win 7.  The installer sees the drive on Win 10 and stops, no alternative offered to get the player on the Windows 7 disc.

    Help, please!

  • VMware Workstation 6.5.1 - Drive error is not ready - Everytime - 5 other computer - 5 different installer downloads

    Hello

It seems that whenever I have to "turn on" a virtual machine using VMware Workstation 6.5.1 I get an error disc is not ready . Give me continue, ignoring and Cancel the options I always support on continue.

    I think it's a memory allocation error.

I tried it on 4 different computers and with 4 different operating systems. Every computer that I tried on was completely different, custom built computers. Except one, which is a laptop, to be precise, Dell Inspiron 700 Mr. others included Windows XP x 64 (on Computer1), Windows Vista x 64 (on Computer1), Windows XP (on laptop), Windows XP (on computer2) & Windows Vista (on computer3).

Whenever I got it redownloaded from the VMware Web site, certainly isn't a problem on my end.

    One of these computers/OS I get an error similar to this one, below, when I turn "on" a virtual machine;

Please fix this bug in your next version of VMware Workstation.

    Thanks in advance,

  • How to install Windows XP on a Windows Vista using Vista workstation to install XP in a separate mode dual-boot partition.

If you have a Windows XP workstation it is a piece of cake to install Windows Vista on the same workstation using the dual-boot using a separate on the same hard disk partition...  However, the main centre recently received a large number of donations new jobs Lenovo ThinkCentre with factory installed and perfectly running Vista operating systems.  Question: Is there a procedure that would allow using Vista to install Windows XP on these workstations dual-boot mode?  Workstations must be used in a class of main center where we need to teach using either XP or Vista depending on student needs.   A second hard drive would allow such a facility.  But we would like to use a 2nd partition on the existing hard disk of Vista to install XP.  However, Microsoft has always included features in its Windows operating systems that overcome by using the current operating system to install an older version of the OS.  There must be a work around there somewhere.  Thanks for your help.

If you have any available records of vista, you could make a partition in disk management (right click computer, manage, enable the UAC and then go into disk management.)  Shrink the partition and format it with NTFS free space.)  Then boot from the XP disc and install it.  Once you have completed the installation of xp. Start the vista disc and go to the repair options.  Go to a command prompt and type "bootrec.exe /fixboot" (without the quotes) and press ENTER.  After restart, you should see a start with windows vista and xp listed menu.  If xp is not in the list, let me know and I can tell you how to add it.

  • Dual boot XP and W7 on separate HD

I'm trying to dual boot W7 [drive C] and [F drive] XP.  I put what is drive to master F, it is an IDE computer, installed XP.  Then I install the C drive as primary drive, F as slave.

Since the installation of XP in this way the computer it C.  I entered in the registry, changed Version NT\Current HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Windows for the slave to F drive.  Did the same \Current Version HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Windows.

But when I start the computer and select the XP drive at startup I get a message FAILURE of NTDETECT.

What is this and how can I solve this problem.  Thank you.

Disconnect the player from Windows 7, install XP on the first (master) drive. Now connect the second (leave as a slave), install Windows 7 on the 2nd disk. Do not change the drive letters that Windows will eventually drive letter assignments.

The system tray alerts "new hardware found" and "installed".

If bottom line, the usb floppy is a material recognized, works under DOS, but there is no access to XP.

This happens with two floppies different usb connected directly to a laptop (not a hub). When connecting to another XP computer, the disks are immediately recognized in the file manager and work as expected.

    Any ideas?

It's embarrassing, BUT I solved the problem by using TweakIU. It seems that in the workstation. The floppy drives were not verified. Verification of A & B readers did the trick.

We have some Dell Precision workstations of the very high-end with 24 GB of RAM and 4 CPUs to four hearts.  When users use workstation on a network drive, it may take up to a minute before the directories appear.  The flashlight may appear.  This latency is frustrating.

  • Identify the second hard drive

I have a Pavilion dv7-6175us contained a 750 GB hard drive on the card.  At this time, HP sold some similar portable with dual 320 GB drives, but none has been mentioned on this issue on this model.  So I predicted, there would be a free Bay on the disc.  Yet there are two disks.  I checked the HP System utility and on records, he lists a disk 0 with 4 partitions: (0) 199MB, (1) 684 GB, GB of 14.34 (2) and (3) 102,87 MB.  Under the heading of disks, it shows a 684 GB C:, D: 14.34 GB (recovery) and F: 98.87 MB (FAT32 HP Tools).  Nothing lists a disc 1.  Can someone tell me what is the second disc?

I did some additional research for this series of laptop and came across this maintenance and service guide.
    http://goo.GL/C3uNc

Page 6 lists configurations available hard drive that came with this series. According to her, the 750 GB configuration is a double hard drive configuration. However, this adds not enough upward. It is noted that the maintenance and care guide for all series within the d7-6000 family.

Two hard drives of 750Go total, they will have to be 375 GB for each hard drive following the common practice of using two identical hard disks.
375 GB is not a standard size or that I've ever seen for a hard drive.

Looks like that hard disks have not been removed after reviewing a previous post. Because of the conflicting information from HP sources, would it be possible for the two drives be removed temporarily to inspect? I suspect a step maybe a hard disk but a shell of one to serve as a placeholder.
Once removed, the hard drive must be written on them. If they are both hard drives, please post back the size displayed on them. As I have already said, standard RAID practices should not lead to 750Go.

I really hate for your purchase of hard disk to be in vain.

  • How 'change' workstation to the player?

A few years ago, I installed the VMware Player. This time I was told that I could have installed the workstation instead, which, after the trial period, may continued to be used for free with limited features of the player. Recently, I had to replace the hard drive and then installed the workstation to run XP Mode. Now, the trial period is over and the request to buy now... How can I continue to run the Workstation installed with limited of the VMware Player functionality? Or, the previously obtained recommendation is no longer valid?

I think that the player must already be installed next to the workstation.  You should be able to simply stop using the workstation and use the drive instead.  No need to uninstall/reinstall anything.

    See you soon,.

  • Win 7 uninstall Workstation 8

    Hello

I try to completely uninstall Workstation 8 but can't seem to do it on Win7 32 bit OS host. I did a search on the web site and there are instructions to remove/confirm manually that the earlier version have been uninstalled but not this version.

I am using the control panel of Win7 for uninstall and completed without error. However, when I reinstall the workstation, it asks me the license number as it does in general on an installation. Yes, I checked the box to remove the license.

Problems with my current installation had ask me if I have to just do a clean install and try again. Right now my guest computer runs incredibly slow and when I try to map a drive using vmware since the workstation Panel, looks like it is mapped, but I get a Windows error saying could not locate drive (z).

When I installed the workstation, I already had drive installed on the PC, which has been uninstalled then installed automatically work station. Thank you.

When you uninstall Workstation 8, note the location of where the work program installation folder. Then, make sure that the program went into installed programs, uninstall box by making the traditional via Microsoft Windows.  Once the audit of the program removed, go to the location of the installation folder and make sure that the folder is not there for workstation 8. The serial number of the workstation can be found in the Windows registry. Click Start > run. Type regedit and press ENTER to open the Windows Registry Editor. Find the serial number of the workstation to my computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > VMware, Inc. > VMware Workstation > License.ws.5.0 > series. Delete the key.

Note: For 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows Vista versions, the serial number is located in my computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > VMware, Inc. > VMware Workstation > License.ws.x.x > Serial. Delete the key.

Restart the Windows operating system.  I hope this helps.

    Hi all

    I installed Workstation. 1.3 build-324285 on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (kernel 2.6.35 - 27-generic #48 - Ubuntu SMP kills Feb 22 20:25:46 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux).

Everything seems to work fine except for the fact that the ISO images won't load properly. Seems there is a permission problem, since the market, workstation user sudo (root) drives (ISO of load in VM allowing the normal start on virtual CD ROM).

I installed Workstation with sudo (the system was asked to do this, otherwise it wouldn't install), but obviously I don't want to use root to run the workstation, I would be able to run as a normal user.

Can anyone give me a tip for that?

have you checked the obvious? -permissions of files on isos?
