ATA or SATA?

Hi all

my laptop is HP Pavilion dv8000, and I would like to know what type of hard drive comes with its ATA or SATA.

I really appericiate a response

John

Looks like it's ATA.  If you want to be 100% sure, you should put the P/N of the white tag under your laptop.

    Hi mate,

Unfortunately, your machine is able to readers ATA (IDE) with the form factor of 2.5 "(inch)."

What you need is a HARD drive with an IDE connector. Regarding the maximum size of the drive you want to install: the machine must be able to handle more than 100 GB since you have a PM 845 chipset installed.

If you want to buy a new HARD drive, then remember the following things:

    1. you need a car with an IDE connector
    2 card should be 2.5 "
3 limiting the size should be something more than 100 GB

I can't really offer you some brands, but toshiba drives are really good. :)

  • SATA drive in older presario

installed 500 GB sata drive in presario sr1265cl with card mother a7vbx - la.

unrecognized disk, sata port is active on this system?

do I need a new bios or anything just not compatible?

I just checked the configuration BIOS F11 on my old Pavilion. On Advanced tab screens, all the way at the bottom of the screen is "Ide Configuration". Go in, and there is the possibility to change the controller P - ATA only P - ATA & S - ATA or SATA same only. Remember that I have not tried a SATA hard drive with these settings so untested Betacam, but he seen possible.

Be careful with the S - ATA definition only because this will also affect CD/DVD drive.

If changing the settings does still not work, idea of Hüffer PCI card would be my next choice. Thanks for reminding me of that!

  • Documentation in conflict on IDE / ATA, who is he?

Getting started with ESX, I read the following:

    http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-esx-4-1/getting_started/c_esx_hw.html:

"ATA and IDE disks hard - ESX supports the installation and on an ATA or SATA RAID disk, but do ensure that your specific speed control is included in the hardware supported. IDE drives are supported for ESX installation and creation of VMFS. »

And the Guide of the ESX Configuration, I read the following:

    http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-esx-4-1/server_config/c_local_storage.html:

"Note: you cannot use drives IDE / ATA to store virtual machines."

What is correct? Creation of a VMFS on an IDE drive / ATA means that you can store virtual machines on an IDE disk / ATA, correct?

    Thank you!

The console ESX 4.x is actually a Virtual Machine, it is stored on a filesystem VMKFS. The Tunis should probably be amended to eliminate any confusion. Installation on IDE is not only being a good choice no mater what that.

    Hello.

My PC fans were noisy as hell and gave me a hard time. So I used SpeedFan . I know it's kind of a utility pro user. but I watched a few videos and tweeked my speed with her fans a little bit and BAM, I could hear the beuatiful sound the most I have ever heard. I could hear the noise of the rotation of the hard drive.

The RPM and the time before twist (watch the speed of the fans):

What I did at the speed of the fan is the settings area of fan of "are more warm ambient remote 'remotely' auto' and the fans became leave:"

This is my temp and my use of the RAM and CPU after 'tweak '.

    My questions are:

    1. Since the speed of ROTATION of the fan ignored avout (1827 RPM) the motherboard increased to 59/60 ° C, temperature is safe temp. I mean my mobo would be damaged or anything?
    2. When I try to play L4D or any game the CPU temp reach 58 C and the MOBO of 62 who scares the hell out of me; as I left the game. is this OK should I just keep playing?

    Hi there praised10

The times seem reasonable and you should be OK.

You should be able to find the technical details of each part and recommended operational temperature either in your PC manual or online.

Mind that some settings on the fans of tweaking could cause problems if they are not configured properly to run top down when the temperature rises, for example because of the increased workload.

If you hear an abnormal noise coming from your storage drives I would say checking them if they are healthy and performing correctly. You could do that with diagnostic manufacturers tools. For the WD drive that would be WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics. Check if the player is quick and extensive tests.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  • HDD upgrade on Satellite M70 (PSM71)

    Hi all

After upgrading to 2 GB system memory, it was clear my HARD drive slow down the entire system with its noisy race. But looking at the list of "drives hard compatitable" doesn't bring much because there are all external solutions. So I searched and found a few hard drives internal seagate but I don't know if they are compatitable with Satellite M70. M70 does support ultra ATA or SATA?

I have an external SATA HDD and can observe the difference in speed, clearly that's why I'm ready to upgrade the internal system HDD 5400 to 7200 RPM. As well, but I still don't know if M70 supports Sata or Ultra ATA drives. Need help at this point.

    Hello

To my knowledge, the Satellite M70 supports s HARD drive with SATA interface.
I discovered that this HARD drive specifications are supported:
    Bus Master IDE
    9.5 m/m, 2.5 HDD support up to 100 GB
    Rotational speed 5400/4200
    SATA and ATA parallel

The 7200 RPM hard disks are not listed, but I don t think that this could be a problem...

    Hello

This device was equipped with a SATA HDD. This might be a reason why it of not possible to install Linux. It takes the drivers before you continue to the installation of the OS.
Unfortunately Toshiba doesn't support Linux and you will not be able to find the Linux drivers on the Toshiba site.

  • HP dc7800 Convertible Minitowers does not restart

I recently bought a used HP dc7800 Convertible Minitowers. It works fine, but there is a question I leave me puzzled: whenever I restart the computer through Windows, it will not start correctly. Sometimes it shows the HP splash screen and goes just a black screen, and sometimes it shows the HP splash screen and restarts repeatedly. What is more strange is that shut down the computer and put on still work manually, and the computer will boot normally.

    System information:

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 GHz

    RAM: 6.00 GB Dual - Channel DDR2 @ 398 MHz (6-6-6-18)

    Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard 0AACh (XU1 PROCESSOR)

HARD drive: 149GB Western Digital WDC WD1600AAJS-60B4A0 ATA Device (SATA)

I agree Rick, that may be the problem.

I don't see any BIOS date of issue (look under Vista) have nothing to do with Bitlocker or or boot up/reboot issues.

I don't have the latest BIOS installed 1.32 at the time.

I bought the PC used on eBay and the seller had put W7 Ultimate 32 bit on it without loading the drivers, etc. and just shipped.  Nor have I received any key disk or installation products.

I got such a lot of things on it and I didn't care what OS he had.

I wasn't going to let on in any case, because my plans were max out of the memory of 8 GB and install my copy of W7 Pro x 64.

In any case, I just tried but updated the BIOS to get W7 Ultimate to work normally (just to see if I could help all the other people who were stop and start loop question).

Everything I tried was unsuccessful.  And the thing is, some people dc7700/dc7800 ran very well with W7 Ultimate.

It was just a handful of us who could never make it work right.

My suggestion you Cinos, must abandon all hope to get to work and install W7 Pro or home (if you do not need to connect to a domain).

No one I know has reported to solve this issue.

    Hello

I agree with Akuma L20 supports a SATA controller and you need and 2.5 SATA HDD.
Usually it s no matter which manufacturer is all 2.5 SATA hard drives must be compatible

With regard to the 48-bit LBA:
As far as I know that this could be just a problem with HDD IDE (P - ATA). SATA HDD should not be affected. So, theoretically, you could upgrade the HARD disk using larger than 128 GB.

    Regarding the upgrade of memory:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=20683&ft=m&St=3

    You need DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM and you can use 2 x 1 GB RAM

  • Equium A200-15I - replacement hard drive

    Hi guys,.

I was wondering if you could help me, you want to replace the hard drive of my laptop (Toshiba Equium A200-15I). its 3-4 years old and just get some small and old.
Is it easy to replace, is it just another wack in and load the disc vista reset factory settings or is it more complicated. Also what hard drive actually buy for my laptop are all made for computers laptops set or is the only difference ata / sata and the disc rotation. If those are the only differences, I realize after reading some of the messages that ata and sata can be mixed, but can I use any RPM or any size? also can you recommend me a couple or where to look to buy

    Cheers for any help

Specifications of base model so I don't waste your time looking for them incase you need

    Processor type: Intel® Pentium® Dual - Core Processor T2080

    level 2: 1 MB cache

Windows® Vista® Edition operating system Home Premium

    maximum scalability: 2 048 MB
    technology: DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)

    Hard disk capacity: 160 GB
    Certification: S.M.A.R.T.
    disc rotation: 5 400 rpm

    Hello

Before any replacement disk HARD is quite easy: there's a blanket of HARD drive on the underside of the laptop that you need to remove and then you are able to exchange the HARD drive.

Theoretically, you can buy each 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface. On SATA interface, there is no limit of capacity for each HARD drive, you can buy. I would recommend a model 5,400 rpm. highest RPM is originally more than heat and need more battery power as well. 5,400 rpm seems to be a good choice.

You can buy in every shop online, on eBay or at your favorite computer store. :)
