Automatically remove virtual machines for VDI pool after the period of time

Use us Vmware View 5.0 but soon move to 5.2 and have need features to automatically remove all the virtual machines in the pool selected after a certain period of time. We are at disposal VDI for a project that will end for 3 months and after this time, we want to remove this VMs automatically. Is this possible?

It depends a bit exactly what you want to do, but you can plan everything a powercli-script to remove the virtual desktop at a certain time.

Another option that I usually prefer is to manage the rights with the ad groups.

So when you want to revoke a users access to a desktop computer, simply remove the user from the group, which should be easy to do with a script.

    Any way to avoid the losting vm sound IP info when I import to the host from a LUN outlet?

    Hello

    Installs on the forum of the Virtual Machine and the guest operating system.

    The MAC of a virtual computer is based on the UUID/name of the virtual machine so if you are not using a static MAC (one that recognizes VMware) and it will change the IP address might also change if you are using DHCP. So I suggest to use a static MAC in the VM configuration.

    Another way is to set up the guest operating system in the virtual machine with a static IP address instead of a DHCP function.

    But if you are unable to remove the virtual machine or the copy in the virtual machine, there may be something locking these files would be an another running virtual machine. If you need to find this VM and kill him. In this case, "vmware-cmd - L" and 'vmware-cmd - l' host in question can be useful to find where the 'hidden' VM is running.  Ultimately you can use ' vm-support - x "to find a list of the virtual machines running by how the hypervisor lists. Then use 'vm-support - Z' to suspend the offending virtual machine that should unlock everything.

    Yes, the use of these commands is command line.

    However, before using these commands determine if you can find the place where life VM incriminated.

  • Windows XP mode virtual machine does not start after the upgrade to Windows 10

    Hello

    After the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for Windows 10 Pro, my virtual Windows XP machine (which was created from the "XP" mode in Windows 7) no longer starts.

    It shows:

    This system is not allowed to run "Windows XP Mode". Now, the virtual machine will be turned off.

    How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

    VMware Workstation 12.1

    Hello

    How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

    I fear that the statement is pretty much on the mark.

    Microsoft caught only supported XP Mode in Windows 7, it has been since Windows 8.

    You might be able to extract the folder integer vhd it and import it in VMware Workstation as a separate virtual machine. In the end, 'XP Mode' just was running a virtual machine in your Windows 7 after all.

  • Transfer of virtual machines for a backend of the DG

    Environment: 11r2 RHE Linux 5.8 host, running on a VMware VM.

    My VMware admins need to move the main VM1 to VM3 Oracle server. This primary has 2 data associated with guard rescue on 2 servers different VMs.

    "In theory", there will be no problem spending the principal server a virtual computer to another (other systems, such as Windows, seem to have no downtime when this happens). "In theory" this transfer will take less than a minute (it does with Windows servers). I'm guessing that RHEL and Oracle may not be so forgiving.

    One of you gurus out there have knowledge/experience about it? If so, is there a list of the steps I have to take beforehand? The traps to monitor?

    Thanks for the reply. With the great terror in my heart, I did experience today in the name of SCIENCE.

    The Oracle server of above-mentioned production (a guardian of primary data feed to 2 gap) and a separate Watch (whose primary is an Oracle instance of different production on another virtual machine), both have been migrated in an active State to a separate virtual computer.

    Verdict: there no noticeable change in performance, without errors, etc.

  • I can't power on a virtual machine (with linked disks) after the addition of new hosts of Lab Manager

    ENVIRONMENT

    -Lab Manager 3 using VC 3.5

    -Initially the 2 hosts in a cluster and managed by LM

    -Added new cluster with 2 new hosts in VC

    -Two bunches pointing to the same NFS storage

    PROBLEM

    -When you try to turn on a computer in new cluster, I get a "requested file" "not found" error

    RESULTS

    -This seems to happen only when creating a virtual machine that has virtual disks of parent; most of our VMS is linked clones

    -When you look at the log file, please see attachment, we found the following:

    It is the location of the new virtual machine in the new host:

    /vmfs/volumes/fabdf38d-beff047d/LMW2K3/2909/002909-T_XP_SP3_32b.VMDK

    When you look at the hard, it points to the parent disk, but it seems that it does not:

    /vmfs/volumes/6586c772-53eee1bb/LMW2K3/2904/002904-T_XP_SP3_32b.VMDK

    Please note th volumen IDS are different and can not get the disc parent of the new machine.

    SOLUTIONS?

    Thank you

    Jose

    You should immediately stop using the new hosts otherwise creating new virtual machines can spoil the vmdk channels. Try http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1005930.

  • Many versions of VMware Workstation there is, I've been able to put a Virtual Machine for a date in the past and make it stay there.

    The instructions were pretty simple, add the following entries to VMX:

    rtc.startTime = "YourValue.

    tools.syncTime = "FALSE".

    Time.Synchronize.continue = "FALSE".

    Time.Synchronize.Restore = "FALSE".

    Time.Synchronize.Resume.Disk = "FALSE".

    Time.Synchronize.Resume.Memory = "FALSE".

    Time.Synchronize.Shrink = "FALSE".

    This no longer seems to work (unless it is me).  Is there a new procedure for VMware 12 and greater?

    I don't use this feature myself, but maybe that's all just because 'time.synchronize.tools.startup' is missing!

  • Put a host in maintenance - it will automatically move virtual machines?

    Dear all,

    We have a cluster with 4 guests and we would now like to upgrade each 5.50 to 6.0 ESXi ESXi host. I understand that we need to put the host in maintenance mode. He will automatically move virtual machines to other hosts? I read DRS is necessary. I see that our guests are permitted for Vmotion and HA. We have standard Vsphere license.

    This means in our case, I would need to move manually first of all VMs before the host can go into maintenance mode? In the case where the Vsphere will make work, the virtual machines automatically distributing to 3 other hosts according to the resources available?

    Thank you

    Edy

    This means in our case, I would need to move manually first of all VMs before the host can go into maintenance mode?

    Yes, since the Standard edition doesn't include DRS, you must manually move virtual machines to other hosts.

    In the case where the Vsphere will make work, the virtual machines automatically distributing to 3 other hosts according to the resources available?

    Yes, this would be the case with the DRS in place.

  • Migrate the virtual machine for Exchange 2010 from one host to another

    Dear members,

    Please let know us if the migration of a virtual machine for Exchange 2010 is supported to an Esxi host to another, the Esxi version is 5.0.

    There are unique Exchange environment with the role of hub, CAS and mailbox on the same virtual server. We have a maintenance window and we think moving exchange virtual machine from one host to another, but before that I need to be sure if it's supported my MS and do not want to have problems after, because I have also gotten to know here in the forums this snapshot for Exchange 2010 is not supported by Ms.

    Please notify.

    Kind regards

    I'm not aware of any limitations with VMS Exchange migration. Anyway, you can consider running the migration during the low workload.

  • Recompose a list of clone bound virtual machines within a pool using view server connection

    Hi all

    I use View with ESXi 4.1 4.6, composer is 2.6. Yesterday, I recomposed 8 pools from the mine to the snapshot of the updated gold statue.

    I have 140 VM in each pool. I checked today and about 125 to 130 of the virtual machine in each pool has been recomposed the new image, but 10-15 VMS in each pool were not reconstructed. They are currently closed. If I manually turn the, they have the old image.

    Now, I want to select just 10-15 VMS thos s in each pool and recompose the. The only options that I can see is to recompose the whole new pool or redial each VM one by one. I don't want to recompose the whole pool again and recomposing each VM individually will take a LONG time.

    When I go to desktop computers discovered in the administrator of the display and select the VM not recomposed, I don't get the opportunity to recompose.

    Can someone please help.

    There were errors, but I was unable to see them and all I could see the gray blocks, but nothing written on them. It seemed that the error windows were suspended by themselves.

    Thank you

    -Jay

    You can select certainly several computers desktop to a redial.  If your sub screen of the inventory of the pool just highlight several desktop computers and select recompose.  You can even choose the View Composer details view to sort by the image that is currently loaded.

    If you have problems for a reason, you could look at deleting workstations provided that they are in a floating pool that would simply allow view the based on the default image assigned to the pool to recreate.

  • How to configure the virtual machine for the changes to forget

    Hi, I want to ask if it is possible together in the virtual machine for the changes to forget. For example - user run VM... make some changes in the configuration. Then come a new user has it want to have clear (without changes in the configuration) virtual machine. Is possible together closed the machine after changes lost?

    Sorry for my English.

    Thanks for help.

    Hi Polo939

    First, you will need to take a snapshot of the virtual machine.

    • Select your virtual machine

    • Click on "take a snapshot" on the right-hand side of the web interface

    Then you must configure the virtual machine to go back to the snapshot when it is turned off.

    • Click on "configure the VM.

    • Click the "snapshot".

    • Select "back to overview" under when you feed off option

  • Virtual machine does not start after completing a physical machine coversion

    I used VMWare Converter 5.5.3 to create a virtual machine from an existing, Windows Pro 8.1 laptop from work.  The conversion process has indicated no error.  When I try to start the virtual machine on a different host, however, he died almost immediately.  I'm using VMWare Workstation 9.0.4, my host OS is Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and the guest operating system is Windows Pro 8.1 (64-bit).

    When it comes on, I see 'VMware' logo instead of loading and after a few seconds, the computer virtual turns off with no visible error message.  I tried to run the virtual machine on multiple machines, and both have the same results.  Host machines running all other virtual machines I tried without problem.

    I tried to change some of the parameters of the virtual machine via the GUI, but nothing seems to affect behavior.  I ran the other VMs Pro 8.1 of Windows on this computer before host, it's just this particular virtual machine.

    I attached the zip file management tool of data collection to support, as well as the vmware.log file.

    Can someone point me in the right direction of a cause or a resolution to this problem?  Thank you in advance.

    I was able to do some additional research after I posted and found the relevant error in the log:

    PCIXHCI: Cannot save the PCIe xHCI hardware

    I found this vmware KB article that describes the problem:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2041591

    Once I set the VM to use USB 2.0 (instead of 3.0), it starts as expected.

  • Virtual machine does not start after restoring from Time Machine to the new Imac

    I got my IMac replaced by Apple, after that they could not fix the old one.  They did a full restore from a Time Machine backup.  The virtual machine does not open now.   When I navigate to the file to try to open the virtual machine at the VMware logo in the bottom right of the icon displayed with large yellow exclamation appears on the icon?  Anyone encountered this problem before.  I'll take the Imac in Saturday if I can not solve.  The machine has the same size as before.  There are a few aspects of sharing with the Mac application miss me?

    According to the MacVirt.vmdk folder, you have the right number of segments of shared disk so you should be able to create a new VM by pointing to the disc in the new VM Wizard by pointing to the MacVirt.vmdk file.

    Note: After you create the new Virtual Machine, I would not suggest the Virtual Machine to stop, pause and close merge and then move all *.vmdk files in the package of the virtual machine, and then manually change the computer configuration files virtual .vmx and change the path to a little to view the MacVirt.vmdk file.  In this way, everything is in one package and is easier to maintain.
