AutoPlay does not not on cdrom and usb sticks

I know there have been many posts on this topic before, but I have tried most of the things suggested but not managed to restore the AutoPlay on my portable computer runing Vista Home Premium SP1.

I have a few days ago windows autoplay stopped when I inserted a CD (audio, data or a cache) and the AutoPlay options dissappeared off context menus.

The first thing I tried was the automatic execution options in the Control Panel, these all seemed OK, but I have reset failing anyway.

Then, I checked the shelhwdetection service has been running. With the following results:

C:\Windows\System32>sc queryex shellhwdetection

Service name: shellhwdetection
TYPE: 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE: 4 RUNNING
(STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE: 0 (0X0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE: 0 (0X0)
CHECKPOINT: 0X0
WAIT_HINT: 0X0
PID: 1216
FLAGS:

ShellHWDetection qc C:\Windows\System32>SC
[SC] QueryServiceConfig SUCCESS
Service name: shellhwdetection
TYPE: 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STARTUP TYPE: 2 AUTO_START
ERROR_CONTROL: 0 IGNORE
BINARY_PATH_NAME: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe-k - netsvcs
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP: ShellSvcGroup
TAG: 0
Display_name: Shell Hardware Detection
DEPENDENCIES: RpcSs
SERVICE_START_NAME: LocalSystem

Then I checked the different registry entries associated with AutoPlay

AutoRun HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cdrom 1
There is no such thing as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
There is no such thing as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\AutoplayHandlers is empty
There is no such thing as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer

I did a full virus scan and everything seemed clean.
There is no obvious entries recorded in the event logs. Now, I ran out of things to check. I see that I tried all the things mentioned in every post I could find.

Someone at - it ideas on how I can track this down? Are there tools of monitoring and diagnostics that I could use to get more information?

Help!

Roger

    Hello

AutoPlay does not appear when you insert a disc in the CD/DVD drive or use a USB more.
He used be ok up to 3 months ago.
I don't remember if I did anything to get rid of AutoPlay.

It is a satellite L550-1cc, windows 7. 64-bit operating system.

I went into Control Panel / hardware & audio / Auto Play and Auto Play's Ticked the box for all.
    Still no Auto game
Then go into My Computer directions click on DVD - RW drive / properties / material / click on TSST corp CD DVGW
TS-L633C. The display now indicates "this device now works correctly.
But there is STILL no Auto play.

Please anyone know where to go to the next, I'm lost?

    Thanks Martin

The AutoPlay option isn't appearing any more in Win 7 under the CD/DVD drive properties.
Auto Play located in the Panel as you suggested above.

    Panel-> AutoPlay
Here you must check the option called reading auto use for all devices and media

Now if you want to listen to an Audio CD, you must choose a default application for Audio CD. Here, change the option called choose a default of Windows Media Player, in case you want to use this software for automatic playback.

  • AutoPlay does not open (as it was)...

AutoPlay does not open (as it did) when I connect iPhone via USB for importing pictures into my computer (Vista). I selected run Autoplay box and selected "Ask Me every time". From what I read, it seems that a recent update may be what is cancelling Autoplay. Any ideas of how to enable AutoPlay as it used to be?

Click Windows Update in the list of all programs.

Click updates installed downstairs to the left.

Should be grouped under the title of Microsoft Windows.

    Scroll to KB971029

Right-click, and then click on uninstall at your own risk

If you use automatic updates you will have it.

Also if you do not check each news updates before installing will have installed you it as it would say only "Security Update."

  • Microsoft 'help' on the AutoPlay does not work

When I attach my iPod touch to my laptop, the AutoPlay does not appear. I tried the advice from Microsoft:

    1. Open AutoPlay by clicking on the button start , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type autoplay, and then click AutoPlay

But it does not, because when my iPod is plugged in, it does not appear in the devices section when the directions above are met.

I also tried to go to the devices and printers in Control Panel, where my iPod is displayed. However, by following the instructions on the right click on the device and select AutoPlay... AutoPlay is not one of the four choices.

    I also tried

    1. Click the button start , click principally made programs, accessories, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. At the command prompt, type net start shellhwdetection, and then press ENTER.

    3. Restart your computer.

This is not something new, but I decided that I would be able to transfer pictures from my iPod to my laptop, and I can't unless this problem can be solved.

  • AutoPlay does not retain what I select in windows 7. Changed 3 ot 4 times.

It changes to "take no action" he did for CD/DVD, Media Player, games, etc. Is there any solution for this?

    Hello

Thanks for your posting in Microsoft Community

You can bail out of the selection yourself and change the AutoPlay option.

Click the Start button and in the search box of the start menu, type and press auto on enter, or if the research does not AutoPlay, click Start-Control Panel-default programs-change AutoPlay settings

Here are all possible media and devices as well as their auto run changed settings or default. With each media or device is a drop-down (arrow) that allows you to change the auto play action. For example, if you wanted to Media Player to start for all video files, click the following video files, select Windows Media Player, and then click Save:

Around the navigation, you will see different options exist for other devices and media. Among the parameters common to choose are take no action, ask me every time, and open folder to view files using Windows Explorer. After making changes, make sure that you click on Save to save the new setting.

If Autoplay does not start after you insert media or when you plug in a device, but the fact of the work for the other media and devices, follow the steps as a possible solution below:

a click the button start-all programs-accessoriesand then right click on command prompt.
b - click on run as administrator.
c at the command prompt, type net start shellhwdetection, and press ENTER.
    d - restart your computer
