Available Page file is reduced

Several days, I checked my current configuration of the system and I got 100,00% available page file, and my page file size was 19, 213.5 MB. But today, once I updated my setup, both of them are smaller. Is this normal?

Your page shrink file is nothing to worry about. It is used like Windows virtual memory for you sure have enough memory available for programs and processes. Honestly with 16 GB of RAM, you can turn it off and just run on the cylinder itself, however it depends on what you do with your computer.  Its all managed by Windows, so I don't worry about this.

I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 with all installed updates, latest hardware drivers, etc.. It is a CLEAN installation on a material brand new, completed a week ago.
The "/ PAE" switch is enabled in the boot.ini file.

When I run MSINFO32. EXE, the summary of the system is the following:
    System model: System product name
    System type: X 86-based PC
    Processor: x 86 family 16 model 4 Stepping 3 Mhz-AuthenticAMD ~ 3515

    Total virtual memory: 2.00 GB
    Available virtual memory: 1.96 GB
    Page file space: 7.07 GB
    File: E:\pagefile.sys

Right click on 'my computer' and selecting 'Properties' shows exact needs to be visible to a 32 bit OS... 3.24 GB of RAM. So, how MSINFO32. EXE is able to detect all of 8 GB is totally beyond me. But this isn't my problem.

My BIG PROBLEM is the virtual memory. If I open the root of my drive E:\, it shows the swap file to size: 4 096 MB. And that's how it is in 'my computer' > 'Advanced' > 'Performance' > 'Advanced' > 'virtual memory' > 'change'.
    Custom size:
    -Initial size (MB): 4096
    -Maximum size (MB): 4096
Total size of file for all readers:
    -Minimum authorized: 2 MB
    -Recommended: 4978 MB
    -Currently allocated: 4080 MB

Why is-MSINFO32. EXE, statement my total virtual memory 2 GB and the size of pagefile 7.07 GB? Neither is correct! Can someone explain just what the heck happens here? My research on Google, many other people report the same total/available virtual memory amounts, with wildly different hardware configurations. I changed the size manually and rebooted several times, without result. I had the pagefile, sitting in a 5 GB partition, and then he moved on to another drive with plenty of space and assign "System managed". Divergence still existed.

    The material is as follows:
    [|] ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 BIOS v1702 [|] AMD PhenomII x 4 (970 Black Edition) [|] Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 (x 2) mode modules together ~ 800 Mhz & calendar 8-8-8-24 [|] Integrated graphics card Radeon HD 4250 with 128 MB + 512 MB memory [|] ASUS VE248H 24 "1080 p HD LED monitor [|] Drives from Maxtor 6V250F0 (x 4) 250 GB SATAII 1.5 Gbps [|] LG BD - DL Optical Drive WH10LS30 [|] Creative Labs X - Fi Platinum Sound Card [|] Logitech LX 700 keyboard/mouse wireless [|]

I changed the speed / "timing" on the RAM to run ~ 666 Mhz @ 9-9-9-24, and the problem persists. As far as I know, he is not actually detrimental to the system; that is, it does not regularly, crash or anything. But the fact that MSINFO32. EXE cannot obtain such a right basis is VERY disturbing for me. There is no state what operating system says it is, then what fundamental problem may arise at some point in the future? Or is already there, hidden and wait a moment when the system load is high until it rears its ugly head and denounces all?
I wonder if I should completely eliminate virtual memory? Or at least reduce the pagefile to 2 GB or close? After all, I can't imagine many running programs as long as 3.24 GB (RAM available for the operating system) is not sufficient to contain all this. I guess only he pourrait happen, however, is why I'm reluctant to totally renounce virtual memory.

Anyway. Responses of all appreciated. Gimme a solutionand I will give my first-born. Or at least the neighbors...

  • Improvement of the system: need page file, SSD install tips, etc. Win7 i7 generation

Gents, it's been 4 years since I built my i7 LGA1155 based system and I have to type of upgrade (sh! t happens). It is not a full upgrade. I don't have enough green to buy a new vid card and am carrying on my storage drive.

I bought a Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB SSD for my OS. The MB is an ASUS Z97 WiFi ac USB3.1 running a 4 GHz i7. The Z97 has Intel and ASMedia ports.

My current configuration has a 120 GB for Win7, two Samsung Spinpoints SSD in RAID 0 as my D drive (my scratch disk, which has worked perfectly) and two WD black 1 TB in a RAID mirror as my E drive where I put all my videos, audio files (mirror raid because I'm insanely paranoid). I have also now a 2 TB backup Synology (external) so that the internal working paper mirror will not be necessary.

    So my setup will be:

C drive: a single SSD with Windows 7

D drive: two Samsungs in a RAID 0 (as I have now - although I will buy a large SSD on the road)

E drive: WD Black (no more than mirror)

Then readers of DVD and BD.

I don't have this info right now (I think it is called "mul PremiereProTrial 5.0.3 Adobe UPDATE").

It's been so long that I have installed Windows 7 (and I had my favorites on the subject so many links is now dead) I ask some advice on some details.

My Windows 7 doesn't is selling at retail, but from 2011 so no SP1. I have already downloaded all the updates via WSUS Offline if I can do a proper update once installed Win7. This will be my first time through this method, but people swear by him.

I know that my older Win7 installation CD will not see the new SSD, so I download the drivers for the SSD and also for my Intel and ASMedia SATA on the Z97 MB ports. I'm still not sure of exactly how this will go.

A question I have is with the page file. I think that Windows automatically detect it on the operating system drive.

I should he move to the D drive? I don't want to do anything that could cause me pain. My page file has always been on my C drive (if the memories are good).

All the tips on this point and in my build system are greatly appreciated. I had so many links is dead now, so I'll try to find what I need. For example, what codecs I should download and install.

By the way, I'm now change anything over 2 K. It is usually footage DSL, HDCAM stuff, as well as lot of Super8 who was captured 1080 p from QuickTime or ProRes files.

for the pagefile, advice to move out of the ssd. It was at the time where the ssd did not last very long and it was an attempt to give them a longer life expectancy. now ssd last much longer is allowed to place the pagefile on ssd. When it comes to the filename of the page, you want it on a fast reader. the more memory you have at least windows will have to exchange information in RAM to the paging file. so if you have enough ram, the swap file usage will be less to reduce the wear and tear on any drive.

  • Where is the page files?

I am running Vista Home premium. I want to reduce the size of my partition of my boot c: drive. I want to find my page files and move them to another drive and then reduce the size of the partition.

    Where are they?

    How can I see them?

    How can I move them?

    Hello

The page file (Pagefile.sys) is a hidden file on your hard drive that Windows Vista uses as if it were a memory (RAM). The file exchange and physical memory is the virtual memory. By default, Windows stores the paging file on the boot partition (the partition that contains the operating system and its support files). The default paging file size is equal to 1.5 times the total RAM. However, this default configuration is perhaps not optimal in all cases. This article describes how to configure the paging file for optimization of the system and recovery.

You can follow the steps in the link given by bob.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/Windows-7-set-to-no-page-file-and-i-cannot-change/992de6a8-bec2-4E74-b6d9-d418a7f5cda0?TM=1367819685901

Alternatively, you can follow the steps to move the paging files.

    1. Log the computer as an administrator.
    2. Click Startand then click Control Panel.
    3. Click performance and Maintenanceand then click System.
    4. Click on the Advanced tab, and then, under performance, click settings.
    5. Click the Advanced tab, and then under virtual memory, click change.
    6. In the drive [Volume label] list, click one drive other than the one on which Windows is installed (Windows is usually installed on the drive C). Under Total paging of the size of file for all drives, note the value that is displayed next to recommended.
    7. Click custom size, and type the value recommended in the initial size (MB) box.
    8. Type the maximum size that you want to allow for paging in the size maximum (MB) , and then click set.
    9. In the drive [Volume label] box, click the drive on which Windows is installed (usually drive C), and then use one of the following steps:
      • If you don't want a swap to disk file, click No paging file, and then click set. A message similar to the following message is displayed:

If the pagefile on volume C: has an initial size of less than 126 megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs.
    Continue anyway?

    Click Yes.

      • If you want to keep the minimum size of the file on the drive, click custom size, and type a value that is equal or greater than the amount of RAM in the computer in the initial size (MB) box. Type the same value in the box size maximum (MB) , and then click set.
    1. The following message appears:

The changes you did ask you to restart your computer before they can take effect.

Click OK, click OK, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.

Hope it helps you to solve the problem.

  • size of the page file and the hibernation Windows 7

If it is in fact a v5 Pages document, and it will not open in preview, or open in v5 Pages while holding the SHIFT key, then you're done. The inner content in Pages v5 is in a format that is illegible, indecipherable, scrambled anything able to read except Pages v5.

If it's a v5.5.2 Pages or a later version of the document, then it is by default in a single file format (file zip compressed/renamed), and no version of Pages thru v5.2.2 on Mavericks v5 was designed to play a single file format documents that are not original Pages ' 09. If it is a document Pages from Yosemite or El Capitan, you will need the v5.5.3 Pages or later to change the type of file to the package format - which can be read by v5 + Pages on the Mavericks.

If it is a Pages ' 09 document, there is a good possibility that your attempt to open/edit/etc this document with all of the people mentioned applications has damaged the document permanently. Try the preview or the free LibreOffice (v5 or later) which can open documents file format only (not the package files) of Pages ' 09 very simple, sometimes with pictures. No warranty if.

  • I have a lot of activity of page file and page faults with 2.5 GB of RAM memory

    Hello

I tried to find the reason for the slow performance on my pc and the limiting factor seems to be the activity of page file and errors of memory page. It is Win XP sp 3 with 2.5 GB of RAM and a processor 2.8 GHz (core). The task manager has never really shown a problem, memory use was rarely higher than 30%, around 10% page file use (I have the initial value, 3.5 GB 4 GB max) and CPU rarely hits 100%, but even when the task manager has revealed no particular problem the system shuts down sometimes for several seconds on starting the program or file to open. To follow the reason down I have installed a more detailed tracking software, which shows up to 1200 files page per second being transferred to or from the virtual memory and up to 8000 page errors per second during these breaks. This could be the cause, and if I can change all the settings to make more efficient memory management?

    Thank you

My copy/paste standard when someone thinks PFs is / are part of their performance problem (but it's probably not...):

I'm guessing that you see in the Task Manager and you have chosen to display the column of Page faults?

If this is the case, given that the column of Page faults is not normally displayed if you activated, perhaps you are looking for some performance issue.

A Page fault does not mean that there is a problem.

A Page fault means generally that the application needs some data that are not in physical memory (RAM) at the time.  When the application needs some data that is not in the local memory and must recover from the paging file on the hard drive which is a way, you will see an error Page generated.

Sounds kind of bad because it has the word 'Fault' in there, but it is really normal.  If you call your task manager after a reboot (do not use any browser), all applications are likely to have at least some page faults, even if you just restarted and "did not" do anything yet.

Some applications may generate a few hundred or a few thousand Page Faults on a restart and then does not change.  The only thing in the task manager that will have zero Page faults is the system idle process, but this is a special case.

Knowing what is a Page fault, you can understand that if your system does not have enough RAM for your operations, XP will need to move out to the pagefile often to get things he needs things there can be not in RAM when he needs.  Whenever she does this, you will have a Page fault.  The less RAM you have, more your applications will have hit the swap file to get their data, but you should be able to control some of this and you may even not notice "" the faults of Page at all--they happen all the time.

So, one might think that if you turned off your pagefile and ran without a paging file, you would see zero Page faults in the Task Manager.  That sounds good, but this isn't the way things work.  XP works best when you have a system managed pagefile size (generally) the value if you probably won't work without a pagefile.

You would always see Page errors in the Task Manager is because there are hard and soft Page faults Page faults, and you would see soft Page faults.

A hard Page fault would be access to the disk paging file.  A soft Page fault would be just a shuffle or the reorganization of the things that are already in memory.  The Task Manager just them put everything in the column Page Fault and you can't make a difference.

Given that the Task Manager offers two types of page faults in a single column you will need else with more granularity (such as performance monitor), tools that allow to separate Page faults in soft Page faults and performance monitoring of hard Page faults.    If you turn off your paging file and use Perfmon to split the Page faults on different types and follow them separately and have no pagefile, you see zero hard Page faults, but still see soft Page faults as a separate counter.

I ran XP for a l-o-n-g time with only 256 MB of RAM and was quite satisfied with her for several years once I dialed things.

Most your system and applications run, Page faults accumulate so that application until the application ends and restarted, then the Page counters error starts to the new and will keep goes upward, upward, toward the top and up - it does not mean necessarily you have a problem and PFs are not likely to be the cause of your performance problems.

I do not think that you will see top-down but you can start them by restarting the application.

  • Windows has increased my virtual memory or page file for 2 days

original title: Windows and virtual memory

Windows has increased my virtual memory or page file for 2 days. Anyone know how long it takes, and if there is anything I can do to speed it up please?

Also, will that be the reason I can't install programs?

What is the processor and RAM how much your computer have? Make a right-click on the icon my computer on your desktop and select properties for this information.

Try Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Task Manager, and then click the performance tab. Under Commit Charge, which is the Total, limit, and the pic?

I'd be interested to see a report of Disk Defragmenter. Open Disk Defragmenter and click analysis. Select view report, and then click Save as and save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents folder. Open the file, and place the cursor anywhere in the file, select Edition, select all to select all the text and copy and paste into the body of your message. To do this, before you run Disk Defragmenter because it is more informative.

  • Two hard drives - what to set the page file to?

I have two hard drives, Windows is installed on C:, what should I set my page of the settings file for better performance? Hard drive space is not a problem, I have a 250 GB and a 1 TB drive, both are less than half full. I have 3.25 GB of RAM DDR2.

I heard move the swap file on a second hard drive is beneficial, because the OS files and the page file could be consulted at the same time. Defining a very large page file or file page on both drives will hurt performance? What is a variable size compared to a matter of constant size?

It shouldn't be noticeable performance difference if the swap file is bigger than "necessary".

If your system can it take into account, it is considered generally to be a performance advantage to put the file on a different physical disk than the operating system is installed, provided the other player does not see many IO already.

By using a constant size / fixed can eliminate fragmentation of the file page that can occur if it is sized dynamically.

If you anticipate relying heavily on the swap file, maybe reconsider and add more RAM to the system, if possible, or upgrade to a 64-bit computer and the operating system that is able to handle more RAM.

  • Can I change the size of my page file?

If I change the size of the page file, I see an increase in the performance of the system?

Leaving the page set to automatic file size is usually more effective.  Any improvements you might see by increasing the size of the file would be minimal, at best.

I think that's the problem...

and this time answer quickly please

Use the Windows 8 Enterprise disk and create a USB bootable thumb and use instead of attempting the installation:

Select the drive (partition) that you created.

    Click on drive options

    Click on Format

Select the partition, and then click next to install.

Another option is to restart Windows 7, open disk management and format the partition that you created. Possible, it is listed as unallocated space and you he has not initialized.
