  We currently have a SCADA running Lookout 6.0.2 and you want to upgrade to 6.7.1.

  I interested him running Lookout 6.7.1 on Windows 7 virtual machine on a server.

  Someone has done this? Have tested the lookout 6.7.1 on a PC with Windows 7, I have no idea if the lookout will run on the virtual machine.

  All the ma, but two of my servers run under VMs on Hyper-V.  The other two are running on (remote) VMware enterprise configurations.  Everything works beautifully.   I use Ethernet Server series brands such as Moxa or Pearl for any devices that are not native ethernet.  I even ran Ethernet USB on a few occasions, but that can be risky.

• Cannot save the virtual machine in VMWare Server 2

  Hi all:

  I created a VM (12.1 OpenSuSE 32bits) in VMWare Workstation 7; then I copied it to a host VMWare Server 2.

  When I try to save the virtual machine via the web, the server fails (or at least interrupts the response from Web page), so I tried to save it via command line.

  After searching a bit I found this:

  The question is now that I can't find any vmware-cmd anywhere, and when I run vmware-vim-cmd I get the following error:

  Connection failed: vim.fault.NoPermission

  So I'm stuck... someone can help me?

  BTW: what is ESX, ESXi and what version of ESXi is included in VMWare Server 2?

  I can't tell you exactly what are the causes of the problem. What I would try (a solution) is to create a new virtual machine in VMware Server with the same specifications as the original one, then copy the two files hard in the new virtual machine folder and edit the .vmx file for the new VM 'OpenSuSE - 12.1 - cl1 - 000001.vmdk' use as its virtual drive.

  It is early in the morning here, maybe I'm not awake yet, but what is the difference between a connection a cru LUN for a machine virtual Microsoft Windows using a RDM or by installing Microsoft iSCSI Initiator in the virtual machine and connect to the logic unit number in this way? Can you Flash the drive using the road to virtual initiator iSCSI or MDM using only in compatibility mode - that is the only difference, or not at all?   snapshots are function of the hypervisor, disks and RDM only virtual to virtual, which are presented to the virtual machine by the hypervisor can be instantaneous. With the help of the initiator iSCSI in the OS itself invited completely bypasses the hypervisor, so you can run snapshots on the side of storage for these LUNs. As far as I know, MSCS comments iSCSI is supported by MS, I don't know if this is also true for a virtual machine with iSCSI comments however.

• Syntax to create a new virtual machine using vCLI

  I use few of ESX 3.5 servers and a server vCenter 2.5 in my lab. I installed vCLI in vCenter server. I would like to know the command to create a new virtual machine through the vCLI. Use of the below details to provide the syntax / command.

  • Name of VM - windows2003
  • CPU - 2
  • Memory - 2096 MB
  • Name of ESX - esxserver1
  • Storage - disk 30 GB C and 40 GB D drive (these two must be placed in a storage centralized. i.e., data store name is - "filer1.lun123"

  VCLI orders are mainly used for configurations of the host, although as part of the installation of vCLI, you get also vSphere SDK for utilities Perl - http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl41/doc/vsperl_util_index.html that provide additional canned scripts, which allows you to create a single set of virtual machines using the vmcreate.pl script. • Transfer of virtual machines from a server ESXi 3.5 to new ESXi 4.1 server. What is the procedure.

  I read on how to transfer a virtual machine from one server to another using VMotion. Not 100% clear on the process again. What I see or read is when you do this since an ESXi 3.5 Server ESXi 4.1 server, I do not see any information on, if possible. In addition, I have not read if I need to convert or upgrade the virtual machine until I use it on the new server. So, my question is, are there any special instructions, conversion tools to convert a VM created 3.5 to use on the new Server 4.1? Is there a detailed procedure that I have not yet found or read best describes this process. Like I said up to now I'm not 100% clear on the procedure. Thank you.

  ESX 3.5 VMs can run without modification on a host ESXi 4.1 - VMotion between the two hosts, you will stiil need to ensure CPU compatibility between the hosts.

  Hi all. I have a requirement to retire a Xen server and migrate all the reviews virtual machines running on it on a newly developed VMWare infrastructure (wooo hooo).

  Only problem, it's actually have to migrate these servers because their construction is relatively complex - so my question is:

  Is it easy / what is the best method to convert our Xen Server VM (all Windows Server 2003) in some form of transferable file and import into the new VMWare infrastructure?

• Cannot run VI on the Remote Machine using VI Server

  I'm trying to run a VI on a remote machine using VI server, but not luck. I used the 'remote execution VI' off the coast of LV inter II. I have check and follow up of the VI server configuration. I also tried to turn firewall on the PC but still nothing. Can't think of anything whatsoever that judgment of the VI to run on the remote PC. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

  You can go to POS, select the backup of the virtual machine and put it in the menu. This may block the normal expiry date and the backup will be deleted from POS.

  Need to know if I am correct or miss me something... I deploy many virtual machines using method.

  1. remove the vmdk files a XP.

  2. create new folders and copy the vmdk into this folder.

  3. create virtual machines using existing vmdk files.

  4 rename the computer and join it to the domain.

  My question is, my VMDK files are an existing xp VM (no longer exist), what is the status of the deployed virtual machines? they still have the same SID or it is changed? I managed to join to the domain, but do not want surprises in the future.

  Note:

  I had another option, could have all these automated with new SID using PowerCLi, unfortunately, osCustomization has default, I can't event run the get-OsCustomization command, it keeps failing.

  Yes, Windows writes the SID on disk (virtual disk for virtual machines) or physical disk for physical machines.  The guest operating system has no idea on the vmx file.

• Virtual MACHINE using GHS restore CD

  I'm new to VMware and I'm trying to implement a virtual machine using XP Home.  I created the virtual machine and I am trying to use the restaurant 3 CD to install the operating system.  The first CD works fine, but the second can not open the file .ghs.  When I try to open the .ghs file it shows same not she, but a .gho file is there, but does not work.

  Any suggestions?   I need to convert a .iso?  If so, how?

  Theoretically, you can't use restore CD to configure a new virtual machine, because they are technically linked to the computer to which they belong.

  Because the virtual hardware for a virtual machine is completely different with the material belonging to the restore CD, I don't expect that it will work well. For the case, it works well, you could face activation problems, due to the completely different (virtual) hardware.

  You might need a copy of XP retail to do a clean install of XP.
